My grandparents (what's left of them) love this place. Our family is Chinese, from China and Hong Kong, so I would say they know what good Chinese food is. We just brought my grandma here for a birthday on Sunday night. This place is pretty small, 4 round tables for big parties and about 10 smaller tables? We made a reservation and a table had happened to open when we arrived, so we were seated quickly.
*On a side note, if you make a reservation in an Asian restaurant, you may still have to wait. You can't just go kicking people out of their table because you show up. American restaurants just do a better job of holding the table for you!
My grandma even said that she enjoys these smaller restaurants better then the big ones. That night, there was 3 servers and one busser. It was a little busy for them, and they were working hard, so we try not to give them a hard time. Yes, some people may say service sucks, but keep in mind, they are trying to keep EVERYONE happy, not just you. It's one thing if they're sitting around collecting pokeballs from the 2 pokestops across the street or catching geodudes that spawn every 10 minutes from the park across the street, but no. They are running around, constantly bringing things to people, taking orders, adjusting window shades and AC, etc.
We always order at least one of the hot pots whenever we come here, not sure why, they just sound appetizing! We've tried the beef brisket & radish, seafood, and some other ones on other occasions, but this time, we had the fish and eggplant hot pot. As with all the others, the bottom has a layer of napa cabbage. It was a generous amount of fish and eggplant, nicely flavored. A bit salty for my taste though, but everything is. Most places, you'll find mostly vegetable and everyone is fighting for a piece of the fish, which is rarer then a wild Gyarados. That is definitely not the case here! We had 5 adults, and we were trying to force the fish filet on everyone else's plate because there was so much! Not so much where it overpowered the eggplant.
We also had:
Green onion & ginger oysters - generous serving, cut in two, deep fried, then stir fried. Great flavor!
Seafood with Japanese tofu - round egg tofu is sliced and fried then topped with a mixed seafood sauce, good for the kids!
Braised yee mein - stir fried yee mein with snowpeas and mushroom slivers. Good for the vegetarian or if you're eating gi that day
Sizzling rice soup - clear broth with generous chunks of seafood topped with crispy rice that resembles rice krispies, but tastes way better
Green beans - not squeaky at all, very tender! Nice flavor, stir fried with onions, peppers, black bean and garlic.
There might have been more, but I probably ate it all and don't remember.
Service was decent, when we asked for water, it took a few minutes, but we got it. It was tough to wave down a server to order at first because they were zipping by so fast, but once we ordered, the food all came out pretty quickly! Bill was $80 after tax, they even brought plates, forks, knife and cake server out for us because we had a birthday cake! read more
