This restaurant has a variety on its menu. I tried a few dishes with a friend and the service was excellent they are very attentive. The ambiance was pretty normal for a restaurant. Depending on who is in the establishment will be louder or more quiet. My favorite was the boom boom chicken dish. The rest of the dishes didn't really stand out too much. My friend did mention that the last time she had gone all the dishes were phenomenal. I found them to be rather lacking but still better compared to some restaurants. I think personal attention from the food servers helped the experience. I will go again to try. I also got the lemonade. It was way too sweet for me and I even asked for less sweetness. I've always wanted to try this place but never really had the chance until now. Ordered the boom boom chicken, jjajang noodles, and some fruit teas. The chicken was pretty good! And good portion for $15. The jjajang noodles are good for 2 bites then it's not good anymore. The beef and the sauce with the beef was not very pleasant. Reminiscent of wet cat food. I wish they included scallions in their menu description, so I could have asked for it without. They also have bean sprouts that aren't included in the description, but I'm fine with those. However, there was a MOUNTAIN of scallions mixed INTO the bean sprouts, so I took about 5 minutes just picking out every single one. And that's not an exaggeration. Please include everything in the description. The fruit teas, oh man. I took 3 sips and it was empty!! It was mostly ice. $6.50 for 3 sips. Ask for no ice or just skip it. I'd want to come again to try different dry noodles, since the jjajang noodles (server recommended) was not good. Living in Pearl City, great restaurants are scarce. But I had been hearing great things about Fooki in the Pearl Kai Shopping Center and finally had a chance to experience this delicious Taiwanese cuisine. First off, be prepared to wait if you come during peak hours. There's a QR code by the entrance that enables you get on the waitlist. The restaurant itself is intimate and probably seat about 6 around the bar and another 20-30 at the tables. There is a large table that is perfect for groups of 10-12. Once you order the food comes fast and the service is attentive. Definitely get the Grandpa Rolling Beef, Boom Boom Chicken (so damn good), any of the Beef Noodle Soups, or the Chubby Ribs if you're not feeling like soup. Everything was so flavorful and delicious. If you're feeling like something sweet to end, I highly recommend the Black Sesame Ice Cream. It's a good one. I'm already thinking about what I'll order the next time we come back. I never experienced eating in dine in where my food has hair on the food( one strand of hair soak in the sauce which i didnt get chance to take picture). This place was definitely not what I was expecting, but in a good way! At first when you walk up to The building you're expecting a huge restaurant inside. I've been this place bookmarked since they opened their Pearl City location & was excited to finally try it! I love black bean noodles and was so excited to see try theirs out. We also heard the Boom Boom Chicken was good. I was able to order online and pick it up. We got 3 things and my total was $50!! I was hoping the portions would be worth the price. I was honestly disappointed at the portion sizes for the price. Nonetheless, here's what we got: Boom Boom Chicken Plate ($17): boneless fried chicken with fried basil, spices, a sauce, rice, a side of fried tofu. The chicken itself was delicious! The sauce was mayo based and was just okay. The fried tofu was soggy, full of oil and was not edible. The rice was also very dry and a bit hard. This was supposed to be shareable but, only between maybe 2 ppl. Jajang Noodles ($16): this was a fairly small portion. The sauce was thick, the veggies added a nice crunch but, the sauce tasted off from what I was expecting. I was most excited about this dish but, I wouldn't get it again. Grandpa Roll ($12): I heard good reviews about this dish and was excited to try it. It's a thin wrapper with beef inside and a tangy-ish sauce. Again, this was much smaller than I thought. The wrapper was chewy, the meat was tender but again, wasn't impressed. I wouldn't get it again. Overall, I was not impressed by any dishes. The most enjoyable dish was the chicken itself. The service was friendly and attentive from the time we walked in. Also, I really appreciated the early 2000s music playing, I did not expect iCarly and Big Time Rush to feed the nostalgia. Tne insides is airconditioned with a mix of wooden tables and chairs....I heard it used to be a bar... The food is Taiwanese a mix between chinese and something else. My daughter and I brought her friend that is visiting from the outer island. The service was amazing! When we walked in we were greeted with a warm welcome and bigs smiles from all the workers. Their we're 3 of the servers tending to us, bringing out our food and making sure we were alright. They treated us like a Queen's and Princesses. The restaurant is very clean, neat and decorated. Had an unexpected visit to Fooki today and here are my thoughts. At the door... Written instructions are a little confusing. A QR code for take out and a sign that says check in at the window (which only has an ipad that doesn't do anything except probably pay a bill) No one at the window. After waiting a little while at the window, I proceeded into the restaurant. Greeted by an associate from the back asking if I was dining in. Yes I am. Walked across a floor that seemed forgotten and unfinished then sat at the table I was directed to. The menu is on line, accessible via a QR code. OK I'm old and it took me a while to look through the menu and had several questions, stopping the waitress several times. I was offered to order from a menu but, I didn't want to be a pain in the butt. haha Finally ordered the Cow Wow Now Noodle Soup and added Won Ton and a Sweetheart Egg. The broth was amazing and the won ton was fat and delicious. The Sweetheart Egg was a little too sweet for me. The Beef Rib was very tender and good (as long as you ate it with the broth). Also, ordered the Grandpa Rolling Beef. It was just ok. I found it weird that the outside was fried but, the beef inside was cold. Also, could have used more hoisin sauce. It was dry. I usually eat my food the way the chef intended (no added condiments) but, should have ordered more hoisin. Anywhoo, It is what it is. My total was a little shocking to me as well, Just me and the 2 items I ordered came out to $59 and change. You also pay your bill via the QR. Which was ok but found it weird that they would default the tip to 18%. For service which included someone just dropping my food off to the table. Oh, and answering some questions. Stopped by for dinner on a weekday evening so it wasn't too busy and we were seated promptly. I've ordered take away numerous times from Fooki but this was the first time I ate in house. I'm sold on the service and atmosphere and though their take out is packed excellently, I think I'll make the trip to the restaurant for the fresh food and friendly service. I got the pork chop laksa and that broth was divine. My partner is vegetarian and had no problem choosing from plenty of options. I also tried one of the tofu bao and loved it. The quality of food here is a level above the cost which is difficult to find in Hawaii. Very reasonably priced. First time trying Taiwanese food. It was soooo good, their broths are super tasty. I ordered the Cow Wow Noodles and it was definitely WOW. Their braised beef broth is rich in flavor with just the right amount of spice. The original is good too if you don't like spicy. It came with so much meat! And the noodles were cooked perfectly. I think I saw Fooki open up during the pandemic as I was going in for an oil change a few years ago. But only now have I had a chance to try it out and I'm a fan. I love the interior, I enjoyed everything my cousin ordered for us. And because we had a late lunch, we were happy to have just missed the lunch rush. And the service was great. Fooki is the best food I've eaten since arriving in Hawaii two weeks ago. We ordered four plates--shrimp, beef on the bone, sautéed vegetables, and shrimp dumplings--and everything was amazing. I'd definitely order them all again, but the vegetables were my favorite. I've never had veggies so flavorful--I'd eat them every day. I also had iced jasmine green tea, which was super refreshing. I have been hearing mixed reviews about Fooki and I finally was able to try this place out. This is located in pretty much in the same area as Kuru Kuru Sushi and Curry House. You check in at the take-out window outside before you can enter into the restaurant. Cow wow noodle soup: There are some complaints I have regarding this bowl. First, the egg I've seen on other Yelp photos, was soft boiled. What I got was hard boiled. Second, the beef rib on the bone per other Yelp reviewers, was tender and fall-off-the bone soft. What I got was pretty tough and did not fall off the bone. The flavor was good and the amount of fat was good, but I had to leave some of the meat on the bone because they were hard to pull off. Third, the noodle portion was very little. A few bites and they were gone. It wasn't very filling. Lastly, I've seen that the bowl was supposed to include the Chinese sour cabbages. My bowl did not include it. I am not sure if it is included only for the braised bowl. The beef shank slices were pretty plain and dry. The tendons were good. Very soft and melt in your mouth. Overall, the flavor was good. Very fragrant and very tasty. The broth was delicious. Boom boom chicken: I love Taiwanese-style popcorn chicken. My go-to used to be Seasons Ice and Eatery but lately their popcorn chicken has been under seasoned and overcooked where the meat was so dried out. Fooki's boom boom chicken was excellent. The chicken was well seasoned, spiced, crispy, and juicy. The boom boom sauce was tasty. It goes so well with the chicken. Love the addition of the sauce on the side. However, I wished there were more of the fried basils. Also as an ala carte dish, it was pretty pricey. Overall, it is a pretty good noodle place. Service was quick and the foods were pretty good. I brought my friend to Fooki's . This was her first time there. We ordered the Curry Boom Boom Chicken. It comes in bite size pieces . When Fooki first opened they would give gigantic size pieces. Visited on a Tuesday night at 6:30pm with my mum and was quite disappointed with the service, but was impressed with the food. The last two times I visited, we did takeout because of COVID, so it was our first time dining in. We were promptly seated for our reservation and there were servers that bussed the table next to us and took orders from all the tables around us but we ended up waiting 18 minutes before anyone came to take our order. And once the food did come, we were promptly given the check halfway through the meal which, under normal circumstances I get, because you have to turn tables over quickly, but there were quite a few empty tables in the restaurant and no one waiting outside. The food however came out very quickly and was very great. We enjoyed everything we ordered. The Jajang Noodles were very chewy and thin with lots of flavor coming from the sauce. The black bean sauce was quite sparse and a bit sweeter than we're used to, but it was still delicious. The Boom Boom Chicken is my absolute favorite dish from Fooki and it was excellent as always. The outside was very crispy and the inside of some parts were juicy while other parts were a bit on the dry side. The flavors were super bold and spiced well, and the plate came with a generous serving of rice, veggies and tofu. The Mala Wontons were on the tangy side which I wasn't expecting, and they were surprisingly really spicy. I loved the flavor but wished there was more of a szechuan kick to it. My mum ordered the salted honey lemonade which was also really really impressive. I usually don't like lemonades but theirs was the perfect balance of sweet, salty and tart. I ordered the Seafood Laksa, which was very flavorful and if you end up saving the leftover curry coconut creamy broth, would be ideal for layering on top of any appetizer. Our server was so knowledgeable and welcoming, and genuinely caring about the food that it made me more interested in trying what he had to offer.
