I've always driven by here but never actually tried it. Finally decided to pull the trigger and I'm sure glad I did! The food was delicious and the staff were quick and friendly. I tried their beef noodle soup and monster pork chop plate. I enjoyed the broth of the soup and the chewiness of the noodles. The deep fried pork was super flavorful and crunchy. Also I noticed that they offer a good amount of food. I almost couldn't finish it as I was getting full 80% into my meal! I went an hour ish before closing so it wasn't too busy. However there were times where I've driven by and there would be people lined up outside the store front. There's plenty of parking all around as it is located in the Pearl Kai shopping center. Wanted to try a different restaurant for Mother's Day, so the family decided to eat here because of the reviews. However, to me, the meat and ramen did not have as much flavor as I expected from the reviews: Grandpa Rolling beef - 3.5 stars - for $12, it was only one roll cut into 5 pieces, but it was pretty tasty. Cowwow Original Noodle Soup - 3.5 stars - for $24 there was a lot of meat, but it was chewy, and the soup was a bit bland. The noodles also had no taste. I added an egg for $2.50 more. Porkchop Laksa - 5 stars - for $21, this dish was worth the price. Although I couldn't fully eat it, I had a piece of pork and some noodles and soup from my son, and it was flavorful. The pork had a lot of fat, but it was crispy and in all, a savory dish. Lychee yuzu tea - 3.5 stars - this is a new item to their menu. It's actually a 4 star for the tea alone that had a sweet with a little sour yuzu taste, but the boba I ordered in addition to the tea was a little hard. Service - 3 stars - they are a bit high tech, we scan the QR code to look at the menu, and order from our phone. The waitress was attentive, friendly, was around if we have any questions about the items listed on the menu, and waters were filled, however, it was a total turn off when they were disinfecting the tables and floor with pinesol with no ventilation in the restaurant right after a customer left their table. The pinesol smell was so strong, that the smell overpowered the smell and taste of the food. There is a 3% surcharge if you pay by credit or debit card, so bring cash if you don't want to pay extra. Lots of Parking since it is at Pearl Kai, across Kam Hwy from Pearlridge. Don't think I'll frequent this restaurant often because it's a bit pricy for bland tasting noodles and soup and chewy meat, plus the strong smell of pinesol from time to time. read more

It was my second time to try Fooki and it was quite good. The flavors of the dishes are all authentic and tasty. Personally I felt the dumplings are a little greasy, but hey I also ate the pork belly wrap which we call guabao in Taiwan. I have no idea why they call the beef roll "grandpas"? But it was tasty. The spicy wonton was too spicy for me, but it was my own fault because it is called ma-la wonton so yes it was numbingly spicy. Order at your own risk or enjoy it! read more

Holy cow! The wow cow lived up to the hype, surprising even for a take out order. Food held up for my 10-15min drive home. I was very impressed with my first experience here. Spontaneously was craving noodle after work and decided to do a quick pick up. So glad I did. This here is a really hearty meal. I mean very hearty, with a very generous meat portion. Been a year too long going back... it's under new management. Not completely different menu but different nonetheless. They don't have the tiramisu cold brew drink anymore... very sad about that. So I asked if it's renamed something different but nope. Really is gone. Was told the cheese cold brew is on the salty side so just opted into trying their iced Vietnamese coffee, very bold, not similar to the tiramisu cold brew. I was wondering what this place was every time I drove past Pearl Kai. Pulled it up on YELP and looked interesting with great reviews. My husband and I came here for lunch on a weekday, we got seated right away and greeted by very friendly employees. There are about 11 tables and a bar counter. Fooki Bao bun was so soft and the braised pork was tasty and accompanied by the perfect veggies, shredded cabbage and not sure what the other veggies were but so GOOD! Grandpa's Rolling Beef was thin strips of beef and shredded veggies wrapped in a scallion pancake and grilled to a crisp with Hoisin sauce drizzled on top, YUMMY! This place is seriously tasty. We were the first to arrive so service was great, but staff remained attentive even after the restaurant started filling up. They start you off with cucumber water which is always welcome and refreshing. I opted for the vintage black milk tea which tasted kind of vintage. It was good, but it just had a bitter aftertaste indicative of very strong black tea or tea that is steeped too long. Still good, but I'll probably try something else next time. We both had braised broth for our soups, which provided for a rich and soothing soup. I got the mushroom version which had some of my favorite mushrooms. I also had a side of chili oil which doesn't really add unbearable heat, but has a really nice flavor overall. We also added the sweetheart eggs which are like marinated tea eggs. I figured that since Pork Belly is one of my husband's favorite foods, this would be a good place to try. He enjoyed the Pork Belly Bowl and the Bao, but I don't think he was familiar with the (Taiwanese) version or flavors made at Fooki's. He said it wasn't bad, just different. He also didn't like the pickled veggies, so I ate them. My monster pork chops was delicious. Moist but crunchy at the same time. Loved the egg and tofu hiding underneath too. Tons of flavor. I love spice and asked if they had any hot sauce or chili oil and was not disappointed. They gave me a small dish of their house chili oil, and it was so yum. Put it on everything and then bought a bottle to go home. It's probably the most expensive one I've ever purchased, but it is so good. It was good to talk with other customers who had eaten here before. They gave us the scoop on what to order. They said the Li hing fries are a must! We're not big li hing people, but it was so good! Especially with the chili aioli sauce. The Grandpa's Rolling Beef was excellent! We don't eat spicy food, and I've had Laskas in the past that were too spicy for me, but this one was delicious! It was very flavorful and just right for me. I was so excited with the Veggies Scallion Noodles that I forgot to take a picture! And it was my favorite dish! The Mala Wonton Noodles (1/5) : typically this dish features a chili oil sauce but I'm not sure what they used for their dish because it came out looking super orange and almost tasted like Tabasco. I'm not sure how else to describe the flavor but aside from it not being authentic (fine we are in Hawaii) it just didn't taste very good either. I had to ask for some of the house made chili sauce on the side which made it slightly more tolerable but still ... really disappointed. The wonton itself is okay, good amount of meat and the wonton wrapping is not too thick. Grandma Beef Roll (2/5): aw man once again was so excited for some beef roll action but again just didn't hit the spot. They use a scallion pancake for the outside but it was not very crispy or flaky at all. The inside the beef was plain no taste. Essentially all the taste came from the dark hoisin sauce they just squirted on top. Ambience (4/5): I will say the restaurant was cute. We found ourselves wanting comfort Asian food after being drizzled on while we shopped for a few pleasures and early Christmas treasures at the swap meet. It's Taiwanese fusion comfort food. Our server, Lani was super chill and gave us AWESOME service. After giving her our order, I was able to soak everything in as we were one of the first to arrive when they opened. Ambience is chill local vibe with modern Asian art. I fell in love with the cucumber water served and our first dish "Grandpa's Roll" which was light and savory with the first bite a crunch and delicious light filing. Q: How many Shanghai Bok Choy can you find in the Stir Fry Veggies appetizer ($13) that lists Shanghai Bok Choy as the primary ingredient? A: ZERO. After we pointed out that the star ingredient was missing, they brought it out with the Bok Choy but the flavor wasn't as a good as with plain cabbage. So was the Monster Chicken and the Pineapple Chicken Fried Sandwich. Boba for boba tea not available until after a certain time. Unfortunate. I settled for the Veggie Scallion Noodles ($14), which was fine but the broth on the bottom was sweet. I'm not use to sweet noodles. A bit strange. My Vietnamese Ice Coffee was upgraded for dollar more ($5.50 total) with the Tiramisu foam but they forgot the grated nutmeg on top. My friend had the Tiramisu Cold Brew and hers came with grated nutmeg (or maybe it was cinnamon) on top. Inconsistent. At least the brew was pretty strong. Li Hing Sweet Potato Fries ($8) came with a small side dish of a creamy dipping sauce and it was super good. I enjoyed this the most out of all. I called to see if we could make dinner reservations for tonight and the girl on the phone said, "We don't take reservations for dinner on the same day..." Ok, that's strange. So we got there and already there's an old Unwelcoming sign infront of the door saying something of the sort - "Do not enter and wait to be seated." Forgot to take pics. I remember when this place first opened, it was busy w/a line out the door so they probably couldn't manage all the people rushing in at the same time, but now is different. It's slow. A male host opens the window, and we ask for a table for 2. He opens the door and motions to seat us at a tiny 2 top table in the back, but there was obviously lots of open 4 top tables by the window so I requested there instead. He speaks quickly as if in a rush and hands us menus. Lack of customer service is apparent here. Our server Todd answered our questions. So unfortunately, they no longer use the same noodles which is what made it so impressive the first time. They've also changed managers, and the atmosphere is just not welcoming. The broth was pretty good so 3 stars for the food and for our server. Vegetables we're decent. Most of the meat was tender like Oxtail soup style meat but some was a bit over cooked. They do give a good amount of meat. Took home leftovers. Can't eat like this too often. Too rich and oily. Maybe better to do take-out if you're willing to pay $16-$20 with no service. Egg is boiled in tea so the exterior and interior color is dark. A bit concerning at first because when I cut the egg open, it looked weird, but our server assured us it wasn't spoiled. We did notice a manager type, Asian man overlooking the bar, but he disappeared and didn't check on the tables. Their Boom Boom chicken and Grandpa Rolling Beef are my absolute favorite dishes. But everything else I've tried is just as flavorful and delicious. This might be the first 5 star review I give a Chinese restaurant. What's more surprising is that Mink was the one that suggested coming here and she doesn't really care for Chinese food that much. We arrived during lunch and the restaurant was quite full but we got lucky by getting the last available table. Mink and I both agree that customer service was excellent here. It impressed us both. They were also quick to bring us shoyu and sauté sauce when we asked. Their sauté sauce is tasty and I used it all on the meat and tendon. It took us a bit to decide what to order. We finally decided on starting with their Grandpa Rolling Beef. I wanted Sichuan Spicy Beef Shank & Tripe or MaLa Wonton but we didn't see many people order them and trusted the masses. Glad we did because we both loved the dish and we highly recommend it. There was a good amount of beef in the rolls and the sake hoisin sauce was legit. I personally enjoyed the different textural components of the dish. Mink got their COW WOW Noodle Soup (Original w/no tendon). I got the COW WOW Noodle Soup but Hearty Braised. Both were good but Mink agreed the broth in mine was more flavorful. The portion size is generous and we couldn't finish. They do offer take out containers which was nice. Their beef is so tender and some pieces just fell apart. The tendon was large and very soft. Second time here. We love the food, everything was tasty. The interior is cute, kind of like an urban eatery experience. The service is good, however I personally find it kind of odd that they don't bring out the appetizers first, then the entrees. My entree came out with one of the appetizers, then my bf's entree came out after another app we had ordered came out after my entree. Third app we ordered came out last, after bf's food. I've never tried jajangmyeon before but found theirs to be tasty! On a large bed of noodles came various greens, the sauce, and the proteins. The texture of the noodles was chewy, the black bean sauce was savory and sweet, the pork and tofu came in bite-sized pieces, and the sprouts and cabbage provided a nice fresh crunch. After mixing it all it was a flavor and texture explosion! The portion was massive and filling--I could only eat half of it. My friends ordered their dishes and we all raved about our food and experience. The restaurant has an industrial, homey, and Asian-influenced vibe to it. Service was good and although our waiter was busy juggling a large party, he was friendly, helpful, and funny! Our server was a strong advocate for their Three Cup Chicken vs the Fried Chicken (which was going to be my first choice). He said most people get the fried chicken, though they miss out on such a good dish. So I took his reccommendation and we also ordered the Beefy Cow Noodle Soup. The noodle dish came out first, bursting with beef bones and large pieces of tendon that was melt in your mouth tender. I was not expecting it to be as beautiful as it was compared to last time's visit. It smelled really good and was a large portion. But what stole the show was the Three Cup Chicken (named after the ingredients they use: shoyu, sesame oil, and rice wine vinegar). It came sizzling with the aroma of sesame and fried basil over a bed of white rice. Talk about large portions. It was more than I could imagine both in visuals and taste. I did not like the "tofu" that came with all of the plates. It was a flappy piece of fried tofu that was drenched in sauce and was not pleasing texture wise as a tofu lover here. But the veggies, the rice, especially with the delicious sauce and tender chicken, absolute wow. This dish alone is why I'd return. Overall a very solid choice for good Taiwanese inspired cuisine. I tried the following items: Fooki Bao (Pork Belly) 4/5 Grandpa Rolling Beef (Scallion pancake wrapped with marinated sliced beef and veggies) 4/5 Cow Wow Noodle Soup (Beef Shank) 4/5 My favorite was the Cow Wow Noodle Soup. The meat was really tender and fell right off the bone. The only reason I did not give this dish a 5/5 was because the broth could've been more flavorful. I found that the original broth lacked flavor so maybe next time I'll try the spicy broth. Everything was package well and pretty tasty. Will try other options next time I'm in the area. read more

My first time to a Taiwanese restaurant! Luckily I went with an experienced friend and she ordered all the great stuff! Located in Aiea on the makai side of Kamehameha highway, Fooki is located in the shopping center nearby NAPA with ample parking. First thing I noticed, they have a whole first page dedicated to their drink selection. So many to choose from: milk teas, fruit teas, coffee, and even frappes! I felt pressured at the time of ordering and decided on the strawberry mojito mocktail. I'm normally not a fan of sparkling water because it tastes like angry water to me lmao but I do like mojitos and I really enjoyed this mocktail! There's so much great drinks to choose from that I'll definitely be getting a new one each visit. We ordered a scallion pancake, grandpa rolling beef, classic beef noodle soup, and the boom boom chicken. The pancake was thinner and crispier than I expected but I loved it. The grandpa rolling beef had fresh veggies that reminded me of a meatier spring roll. The boom boom chicken was a flavor explosion of different spices, although I would have enjoyed more fried basil. And the beef noodle soup: hearty flavorful broth, good amount of veggies, the noodles tasted homemade with a good chewiness, the beef had a few good pieces of tendon (my fave), and the egg was nice and jammy. A friend was visiting from OR and she decided to go here out of all the places I mentioned to her. I'm glad she picked here. I've been wanting to try here after seeing posts on IG. I made reservations...only because I thought 6 of us were going to be there. Got there on time and you check in at the window. We waited for a while cause the had to set up the table but, it was okay as not everyone was there yet. 6:00 was a good time cause it's not too busy yet. The 2 hours we were there, people were constantly coming in. The place is clean, and comfortable. I liked that the chairs weren't matching lol..made it feel like someone's back porch. Taiwanese-Japanese fusion done right. The popcorn chicken bento slaps and their pork belly bao is chef's kiss. Cute spot, good portions, and flavors that punch. Also love their milk tea and the cozy feel of the place. read more
