    Beef Chow Fun
    Kainani K.

The restaurant was really clean and kept at a comfortable temperature. The service was good, and we were seated as soon as we walked in. My husband and I decided to get beef broccoli, beef chow fun, beef fried rice, garlic pork chops, and crispy gaugee. All of the dishes came out one at a time and the temperature was nice and hot. I thought the flavors were nice and noticeable but my husband had a hard time tasting anything. I still think the overall experience was good.

Finding the golden wheel... After having some refreshing treat with Nadine C I asked mom what she wanted for dinner and it was some Chinese Beef Broccoli and though there has to be somewhere near here than I can pick up easily and after some Yelp search found that Golden Wheel was near and let it guide me there only to say that I was there...on the other side of the building lol! Oh my goodness as they're located in Aiea Town Square surrounded by some biz that I frequent I just had no idea and felt foolish. This cute place is cozy though do have enough seatings from 7 four top and two large round for 5+ but it was take out for me and an easy one which they made in literally seconds. The staff there is very nice and friendly packed it up nice and with napkin, chopsticks and a shoyu/mustard container was an easy place to grab a meal to go and yes it was yummy broccoli was cooked just right and the beef was nice and tender, not over crazy salty and just the touch of gravy to cover the dish, simple yet comforting and is why it was delicious. Thank you!

I was happy to see this Chinese spot open on Aiea. We ordered take out and when I went I pick up the order, restaurant was completely empty on a Saturday around 5pm. I was a little skeptical after I noticed the emptiness. Ordered the fish, beef and broccoli, fried pork chops, and kung pao chicken. All of our dishes were pretty salty. Perhaps too much MSG? I don't mind MSG but it was overall too salty. The fish had a good ginger taste and cooked nicely. I would not order the beef and broccoli again- the broccoli was overcooked and mushy. The beef also felt mushy. My favorite was the fried pork chops. Great flavor and texture all around. I wouldn't mind trying out other dishes if I'm craving Chinese in Aiea since it's so limited in the area.

Stumbled on this place by accident and I'm honestly glad I did. While the place was empty on a Monday afternoon, it was kinda nice to have the cozy little restaurant to ourselves. Since it was empty we got to sit wherever and we were helped immediately. We needed some time to decide but were offered tea in the meantime. I ended up ordering the sweet and sour chicken and I'm so happy with what I ordered. I added rice because duh. But what I loved about this dish is that it wasn't dry, there was plenty of sauce and the chicken wasn't overcooked or chewy. It tasted so fresh and was honestly too hot to eat, but it was so good so who cares if I burnt my tongue?! It was a pretty large portion as well. We also got wontons and those were good too! So much food we had to take those home. I would definitely go back and try more dishes from this place. There's ample parking too and a restroom! They offer take out as well and accept all major credit cards.

20260214 Menus You're welcome. Pretty good salt and pepper pork chops, cold ginger chicken and roast duck.

First time I tried beef ong choi with harm ha. Not good, I rather have pork and the ginger was overpowering

So, I know Golden Wheel changed ownership and kept the name, it is a different restaurant doing business as Golden Wheel. I don't order out very often but I remember Golden Wheel's harm ha pork ong choi being so good. Tonite I didn't care for the dinner I made for myself so I ordered from Golden Wheel. I thought it was would order beef instead of pork because the doctor told me today off pork so ordered beef instead of pork. When I got home and started eating the flavors were off. then it dawned on me me that there is a strong ginger flavor, a flavor that I am not accustomed to in harm ha ong choi. I couldn't even eat half, it was that bad. I think my days of ordering from Golden Wheel may be over.

Blew my mind today! Stopped in after a pedicure next door and because it's been raining I really wanted some noodle soup. First off there were two waitresses which should have been my first clue because there has never been anyone but the owner previously. A server immediately directed us to an open table and put menus in front of us while another server brought half full glasses of water, followed by a pot of tea then stood there pen in hand to take our order. Can I have a minute to decide please? My friend ordered the dinner plate and I ordered the Bat Jun noodle dish asking for it in soup...she nodded and walked away. Friend's plate arrived first piled high with everything noted for the dinner plate special on the menu. Surprised my Bat Jun Noodle soup arrived sans noodles! Asked her where the noodles were she suddenly couldn't understand a word I said....so trying to make the best of the situation I just ate it. "It" being the absolute worst bowl of soup in my entire life! Not only were the ingredients in the soup meager the broth was flavorless. I had a bowl of hot water with mostly cabbage in it. One nickel sized shrimp, one soggy square of white fish, one chewy piece of squid, one chewy carrot, a chunk of mangled bok choy and some remnants of Chinese cabbage. $16 for what I wouldn't feed my garbage disposal. My friend said her plate was awful too. Sweet and sour ribs were nearly all bones. The noodles were tasteless as was the fried rice. The fried shrimp on top was soggy and the breading fell off when she picked it up. The wonton was not crunchy and again flavorless. The table next to us asked where the owner was, apparently by name and were told "they decided to retire and sold the restaurant" New owner and new cook. No signs advising but had I looked at the business on Yelp before walking in and seeing RodI U's updated review I would have gone next door for Pho. I won't be back unless I see some serious improvement here. This was the worst Chinese food I have ever eaten.

    NEW OWNERS - Stuffed Tofu
    Rod U.

November 2024. NEW OWNERS. NEW COOKS. What was one the best places to get gweilo Chinese food (Chop Suey House Americanized Chinese food ie lemon chicken, beef broccoli, general tzo's chicken) is no more. To be fair, perhaps the cooks are not used to the kitchen yet but for now: -- Fried rice - No wok hei. No color. No seasoning. Not even salt. Sparse "stuff" mixed in. -- Crispy gau gee - Fried in cold oil. Extremely crisp on the outside, oily on the inside. Odd spice seasoning. Ginseng? -- Salt and pepper pork chop - Odd velveting. Floury as if cooked at too low a temp so the coating is not set. Lack of seasoning. No spice heat. -- Stuffed tofu - Interesting. Finally a dish that is seasoned albeit in a very goopy, cornstarch thickened sauce. -- Mixed veg with beef - Beef is not marinated in Chinese wine and is tough but a nice mixture of veg including mustard cabbage for more depth. Sigh, another Joni Mitchell "Big Yellow Taxi" moment.

Yes, this Golden Wheel is different but there are things they do very well. For example, the crispy gau gee, mapo tofu, pork sin choy, black pepper beef, Peking duck with bun, and gai lan have all been winners lately. Some things they don't do as good as the previous owners but please give these guys a chance. I'd hate to see another old school Chinese restaurant in Aiea bite the dust!

Decided to chance eating here again since half the reviews in the last few months were good. Facility: 4 stars. Cleaner than before. Nice new plates. Service: 3.5. Server was friendly enough, seemed to know the regular customers. Food took a little longer to come out than expected but was still a reasonable wait. However, we had to wait to get our bill. Hubby had to go up to ask for a take out container because server was in the back talking. Food: 3.5 to 4. Beef broccoli cake noodle was good. Cake noodle had the necessary char and crispness (4), beef was tender enough (4), broccoli was nice and crisp (4). Gravy was 3.5 because the taste was ok but not the usual flavoring. I would prefer the traditional flavor. Egg fu yong was good (3.8) and if it had just a tad more saltiness it would have been a 4.5. Hubby said the food wasn't bad - from him that's a good sign since he's not a Chinese food lover. Note: No lunch and dinner plate in the menu. Will return.

Minute Chicken Cake Noodles 2x orders

Ordered 2x gau gee and 2x minute chicken cake noodle for Christmas dinner. This is my go to for holiday pot lucks! You could tell they were super busy that day tending to lots of phone orders and in person diners but the order was ready promptly. Every time I bring this, there is never any gau gee left! Definitely recommend Golden Wheel!

When Rod U. speaks, you listen. Ummm....what I meant to say is "Pay attention to Rod U." You see, I've known Rod U. for about 10 years now via Yelp. I met him IRL at Yelp events where he also even attended my UYE's when I hosted them many blue moons ago. Rod is a cool Yeep and highly knowledgeable in many types of cuisine and I look up to him and respect him. Rod U. is the Duke of Golden Wheel (GW) with 33 check-in's as of 3/7/2024. When Judy C., our coordinator of a small, exclusive foodie group, suggested we try GW, I had my reservations but when I read Rod U.'s review and saw how many check in's he chalked up, I was game to give them a try. Located in Aiea Town Square with neighbors of Hughley's Southern Cuisine and Palazzo Ristorante Italiano, GW has been serving Cantonese cuisine in Aiea for over 15 years. As a townie and the Unofficial Mayor of Chinatown, I was very skeptical of Cantonese cuisine in Aiea but I have faith in Rod U. Judy C. has been to GW several times now and she made the reservations and suggested we try one of their set menus of 8 items for $93. I read both Rod U. and Kathy A.'s reviews where I really wanted to try the lemon chicken so when I saw the set menu had lemon chicken was included, I agreed. Once everyone arrived and sat at our seats, Judy advised the staff of the green light to start. THE VERDICT: GW seems like a restaurant of my past when I lived on Maunakea Street in Chinatown. They resemble Tin Tin Chinese Restaurant and the interior décor screams the 90's. Indeed the food here at GW is adjusted to suit the local, or Western palate. The food reminds me like I was eating at your typical "Chop Suey restaurant". Food here also revived my childhood days growing up in Chinatown with multiple chop suey restaurants. We ordered a set menu and the dishes were delivered quickly shortly after we started off with the scallop soup, which was surprisingly tasty that needed a splash of white pepper. Our meal started strong. Next, the lemon chicken was amazing. Dish was made fresh as it was delivered temperature hot and executed well. I also enjoyed the sweet and sour cabbage with beef, that was substituted instead of the beef with vegetables. Love the sweet and tart contrast of flavors with a nice crunchy texture from the sour cabbage. The flavor of the Sam See fried noodles was not bad but I'm not a fan of thick, starchy egg noodles. The temperature of the noodles was semi warm. I wasn't a fan of their roast duck, as it was clearly recooked by deep frying with the dark skin color and crispy skin. However, the duck was noticeably dry. I also wasn't a fan of the egg fu young. This dish is too westernized for my palate. The biggest disappointment of the night was the fried rice. Although this also had a generous serving, the fried rice was clearly premade and the temperature of rice was tepid. Lastly, the seafood with vegetables was pretty good. I could smell the wok hei and the Choy sum vegetables still had a great texture and seasoned well. Service was somewhat spotty with highs and lows. The restaurant was consistently busy with many tables occupied and even witnessed a Chinese family dine in where they received attention from the staff. Although fluent in Cantonese myself, the staff spoke a different dialect of Cantonese where I understood for the most part but declined to speak to staff in Cantonese. We only had our water glasses filled at the end of our meal. Overall, a decent first experience at GW where I wouldn't mind returning. The lemon chicken is delicious and next time I'd like to sample their Capital style pork chops. There was a miscommunication with our waitress as she didn't put in our order and we canceled it as we were stuffed with leftovers to take home. I don't think I'll suggest this place to my family as they may not appreciate the "chop suey" style of food here.

Beef with ginger and onions. Lacking in the flavor department.
    Mark Y.

I thought I'd give the new Golden Wheel (under new ownership) a try. First off, they got my order wrong and gave me cold ginger chicken instead of minute chicken with cake noodle. Hiyah!‍ But the chicken was okay but tough. Beef with onions and ginger was pretty good, lacking in flavor though. Crispy gau gee was good but filling amount was inconsistent. Roast duck was okay but couldn't hold a candle to Roast Duck Kitchen. Fried rice It was like instant rice with a little egg and what seemed to be char siu. No flavor or wok hay to speak of. Felt like going back to give their cook a primer on proper fried rice. 2 stars out of 5. Bottom line: It wasn't horrible but Chinese restaurants thrive on getting orders right and the taste. Aiea needs a decent Chinese restaurant.

Still got leftovers from dinner special plate .

The restaurant is a China-based franchised chain with 750 locations in the US and 70+ locations in No. America. This restaurant is the 1st and only location in HI at Pearlridge. This restaurant initially caught my interest when it first opened; however, as it is not close to my home, I eventually forgot about it until just recently when I was in the area. So hubby and I had a quick lunch there. We had just wanted to try their most popular menu offering, the original pork bone soup rice with rice noodles and fatty beef. We were told that one order is sharable between two people. Perfect! Our server brings out a black cauldron of the piping hot pork bone soup. She then brings out a tray of 10 little round porcelain dishes of chives, pickled cabbage, quail egg, goji berries, wood ear fungus, white fungus, meat paste, ham, tofu puff, and corn. Slightly larger ceramic servers included cooked fatty beef, fresh lettuce, and cooked rice noodles made with 100% rice flour. We were instructed to add the beef and lettuce to the broth, then add the 10 ingredients s and stir well, and finally add the rice noodles and wait 10 seconds until ready to eat. We enjoyed it, and wondered whether this was a trendy novelty concept, in addition to being an authentic appreciation of Yunnan foods. We used the house chili oil, which gave the soup a good kick in heat! Our server, Janelle, was very friendly and patient, knowing that this was a first time for us. She explained the process, which made it easy to understand. We explained that since this was our first time, we wanted to try the signature soup and then trying others the next time we visit. Hours of operation are daily from 11a to 8p. The restaurant interior is clean, bright, and spacious. Ambiance is casual and welcoming with interior décor of Chinese lanterns. Free parking is available in the Pearlridge Shopping Center that is shared with other businesses of the shopping complex. There are daily discounts: Monday - military 10%; Tuesday - senior 10%; Wed, Thurs, Fri - early bird discount. There is a 3% credit card fee. What interesting concepts in the authentic flavors, fresh ingredients, and unique "crossing the bridge noodles!" We look forward in returning to try different menu offerings of various soup broths, appetizers, dim sum, and desserts! A great introduction to Chinese hotpots!

Good, deep flavor with a touch of garlic taste. Portion was fair. I also got to try the crispy gau gee, which I don't usually eat. The one from this restaurant impressed me though. Not the size, but it wasn't oily and the crunch was light and crispy. I'd definitely order the crispy gau gee again. Everyone liked it too. All in all, Grand Chinese Restaurant was a good choice for Chinese food.

Sometimes there's no taste, sometimes it's a surprise dish, receiving a different dish from what you ordered. Yes, the cashier points at different boxes and reads off the receipt, but they have no clue what is inside. Speaking of the cashier, there is a young Chinese girl with tattoos on her arm, who must think she's doing me a favor ordering food from there. She never smiles and is definitely not a people-person. And heaven forbid that you ask for chopsticks and an extra watered-down hot mustard. I spend at least $120 per order and the look she gives you, I feel like slapping it to knock some sense into her! Their business depends on us customers!

Looked over the menu and found a handwritten "Bento" sign located below the counter. Bento price is $7.50 except for the Meat Jun for $8.50. It comes with the main entree, 2 mandoo, 1 veggie and a scoop of rice...wow, good deal! Main entree choices are: Mochiko Chicken, BBQ Chicken, Chicken Katsu, Fried Shrimp, Fried Fish, Shrimp Tempura, Meat Jun or Musubi Combo. The veggie choices are: Choy Sum, Corn, Kim Chee, Shoyu Potato, Bean Sprouts or Japchae. You can substitute the rice for an extra veggie. I ordered the Meat Jun with Choy Sum. For $8.50, they gave a good amount of food which I enjoyed and had leftovers for another meal. The guy behind the counter was nice and service was fast. I would definitely return to try something different. This place is in Palama Supermarket that's located at Waimalu Shopping Center. Lots of free parking but this complex is always busy. Sometimes it's hard to find so park at the first stall that's empty. There are 2 entrances/exits that circles around so if you can't find parking, you have to circle around again because the isle is only one-way.
