Baked Char Siu and Hot Dog Manapuas
    Cody F.

After going to their Ala Moana location, I had to come to another to see if it was true. The size of their manapua have been reduced! They taste the same but the size of their baked char siu and baked hot dog are smaller now and the char siu is not filled as much as before. This is disappointing. Inside was bright and clean. The girl was friendly and quick to take my order. I ordered for pick up at a later time. I may infrequently come back to Chun Wah Kam after finding out about their size difference.

I can't speak for the location itself as I did not enter the store front. This review only reflects the quality of the food, and what I tried was delicious! I hear this location is always busy which is a good sign. I tried; Pork Hash - stuffed with a lot of pork and a thin layer of noodle holding all that delicious pork in. Crispy Kau Gee - deep fried wonton style wrapped meat of deliciousness. I was told it usually comes with a dipping sauce that is also very tasty although unfortunately the sauce was not placed in our order. They have multiple locations on island and definitely recommend giving them a try!

2 sui mai; 2 half moon; kalua pig bao
    Heidi H.

I haven't been here for years. Now I know why. The sui mai - ugh - not how I remember. The wrapper just fell off in one piece for each one. The half moon is now a round ball that is hard and filled with char sui. The kalua pig bao is in the freezer. We were too afraid to eat it that day. Staff was friendly. Prices have gone up. I miss Char Hung Sut in Chinatown....

I like this location because there's more parking and the crew is very friendly and helpful. They also have as much selection as the one in town.

first time to eat ginger fried rice and i like it! Yes, still a great value for what one gets! 10.28.25

First impressions are lasting impressions! First time to this Chun Wah Kam, and the last time I went to one of their places must have been over 8+ years ago at the Ala Moana location. Nice, that one has breathing room as a floor sign says to wait at this point until called, as there are other customers already choosing their selections of what they want to have. Even while standing in line, the smiles and one on one interaction for that personal touch stood out! The smiles i saw lasted from once you get called to completion=== very, very good signs that the owners of this company want to show that this sincerity will only bring back the customers for future purchases! A win-win for both parties! Odd to me as this was my first time here and to the close immediate right were the entrees and at the far back were the starches. Stupid me, thinking what? they will put the entrees on the plate first? No, they don't they will call you to the back to select your starch choices which i did, choosing their so called two starches of ginger fried rice and chow funn. *Their website is more accurate as it states 'UP TO two starches' than the signage up above the counters ... I asked her if there was any spicy entree available... she said their really ONLY spicy dish would be their spicy garlic chicken, but the cook had not made them today... Shucks, and I heard about this one entree to get! Then we walked over to the entrees' section and i was curious about the taste of that fried fish i saw with jalapenos, green and red bell peppers... she gave me a fork and napkin (a napkin!) to taste it... I liked it so i chose it... along with the beef with long beans in black bean sauce...there were many others that made my mouth water... but I need to get through these two first to see if they will be repeat entrees of mine! Their 3-compartment plate lunch container is a hybrid of more soft cardboard which will de-compose quicker and good for them thinking about the future (yes, as it is a mild hybrid container, it shows sagging compared to what most other places NOW use)! She was very nice in suggestive selling of their other products ... asking me if i needed manapua, dim sums, pork hash... I told her why yes, I wanted to try that 'spicy pork hash' that was posted on the wall to the right as we waited in line... She apologized but said they don't have it in yet as it comes from their Kalihi St. location... Oh, wonder if that is their central kitchen location as I know this is where Chun Wah started out way in the beginning. I told her that's all right, nothing else for me... They were seating on both sides of the entry that can seat at least 30 persons... the modern, interior warm lighting was welcoming for diners eating inside being not overly bright with day-time lighting, nor dim. My early lunch filled my stomach well... deeliciousssss! I would select that beef with long beans in black bean sauce again, but up in the air about the fish...perhaps they should mix the entree inside of its chafer pans ever so often so the sauce will mix with all pieces of the fish, etc and so the flavor will be more. The ginger fried rice was very aromatic and with its strong ginger taste that some may not like. The chow funn was slightly bland and in need of some dashi flavoring or something else to make the noodle dish 'pop' ! *The finishing transaction with the smile by her as she handed my change and receipt and thanking me --- i consider their *customer service* to be 5 stars alone! If this matters to you, their chopsticks they provide is of a longer in length and highER quality along with the provided four (4) good quality thickER napkins! Yes, i have seen other reviews by others about bad service, bad bland taste of entrees, etc... but today... today... when I WAS THERE about 9:40am today, Tuesday the 28th ... reigned SUPREME, hence all the stars colliding provided me with more than a pleasant meal and service... this is why 'I' give it a high four (4) stars !

We were craving Chun Wah Kam grinds. Hit up the Pearl City location for baked manapua, crispy gau gee, and the plate noodles, beef broccoli and roast pork. It was so busy and they were already out of Half moon and other island favorites. Line was long, but it service was efficient so it moved very fast. The parking is also hectic during the holidays.

What a pleasant surprise today...didn't realize it until we got home. Easter Manapuas!!!!!

Take out container full with Chinese take out Value for $14.00

Second time to this location , previously picked up at Christmas time the green & red colored manapua's . This time I ordered the 2 starch 2 entree take out Chinese plate. Noodles & char siu fried rice for the starches & orange chicken & eggplant for the entrees . For $14 you get good value as they stuff the take out container. Food overall is good & filling. Service was quick & polite& the restaurant has indoor seating , but it is largely takeout! It was busy this afternoon& staff moved the line along! The Dim Sum is good & I will return to their locations around the island!

    Assorted Mana Pua
    Crystal K.

Mana oh man! I haven't gone to Chun Wah Kam in years! We were hungry after walking around the swap meet and I really wanted some Mana Pua. We stopped at Chun Wah Kam on the way home. They only had steamed Char siu Mana pua left and a handful of flavors of the minis. So I ordered 4 regular steamd plus a few sweet potato and kalu pig minis too. Had to also add in a bunch of pork hash and gau gee too! Although everything by the each is decent in price, it can add up pretty quickly when buying for multiple people and ordering when you're really hungry! Lol. Service is super fast and friendly, and very helpful. Most people just come here to take food out, but there are a few tables available to dine in too. Next time I come, I need to remember to add some steamed rice cake to my order.

Food was delicious as always. Service was great. Staff were super friendly. Great place to grab some manapua. There was a long line when we got there but it went by really quick.

Do they make sweet potato manapuas?

It isn't on their menu so I don't think they make this item. Feel free to call them to double check.

We ordered the following: * Char sui fried rice - nice taste with the char sui mixed within the fried rice. * Peppered beef w veggies - good taste, the veggies consisted of bell peppers and onions. * Walnut shrimp - nice shrimp pieces fully covered w the cream/sauce served w walnuts on the side. Nothing fancy; tasted like others that I've tasted before. * Oyster sauce chicken over cake noodles - wish there was better chicken pieces and more sauce for the cake noodles. I had to scrape up whatever sauce was on the serving dish to top off the cake noodles. * Pork chops - this was one of my favorites as it was cooked perfectly and tasted great. There was this green onion & jalapeño mix on it but I don't like spicy so I stayed away from the jalapeños. Crispy gau gee - it was small and it tasted ok. Have seen bigger, filled gau gee. Service - the ladies came around frequently to refill our water glasses. We were given take out boxes to bring home the leftovers. Their sweet and sour sauce was good. I spooned that over everything. Prices - seemed reasonable enough Would we return? Maybe but if we really wanted to eat Chinese food, we probably would go somewhere else. Would we recommend this place? Sure, as everyone has their own taste. I understand this is the 3rd owner and I wouldn't want them to close up because of my review. You'll just have to go & try it...select what you like to eat and see for yourself. This review is just my own opinion. Good luck to Golden Wheel.

His favorite food was rice noodles, and his wife would bring to him daily, but it would get cold. To keep it hot, she brought chicken soup in a fire-heated ceramic pot that she kept piping hot while added more noodles and other ingredients. Her ingenious way of keeping the food hot became known as "crossing the bridge noodle." Opened in Uptown Pearlridge near Ross Dressed for Less in Aug 2023, Ten Seconds to Yunnan Rice Noodle is known for its customizable Yunnan-style rice noodle soups stewed within a hot broth and 10 side dishes of meats, veggies, and toppings for a signature hot pot experience based on this legend. There are various choices of broths, e.g., pork bone, spicy sour, tomato and are served with fatty beef, pork belly, veggies, etc. They also offer: * Additional soup broths in the cauldron with rice noodles, e.g., hot sour, tomato, and Szechuan mala spicy. There are also ready-to-eat noodles soup served separately with chicken thighs, fish fillets, seafood, laksa, tofu, won tons, beef tripe, etc. * Hong Kong style dim sum, e.g., shrimp pork hash, shrimp dumplings/rolls, spareribs, chicken feet, turnip cake, sticky rice, spring roll, tripe, fish cake, xiao long bao. * Appetizers: beef tongue/shank, pig ear, chicken wings, calamari, fried buns/tofu. * Desserts: and their signature Japanese souffle pancake from their sister Cloud 9 Café HI, bubble waffle. * Drinks: milk teas, fruit teas, iced coffee. The restaurant is a China-based franchised chain with 750 locations in the US and 70+ locations in No. America. This restaurant is the 1st and only location in HI at Pearlridge. This restaurant initially caught my interest when it first opened; however, as it is not close to my home, I eventually forgot about it until just recently when I was in the area. So hubby and I had a quick lunch there. We had just wanted to try their most popular menu offering, the original pork bone soup rice with rice noodles and fatty beef. We were told that one order is sharable between two people. Perfect! Our server brings out a black cauldron of the piping hot pork bone soup. She then brings out a tray of 10 little round porcelain dishes of chives, pickled cabbage, quail egg, goji berries, wood ear fungus, white fungus, meat paste, ham, tofu puff, and corn. Slightly larger ceramic servers included cooked fatty beef, fresh lettuce, and cooked rice noodles made with 100% rice flour. We were instructed to add the beef and lettuce to the broth, then add the 10 ingredients s and stir well, and finally add the rice noodles and wait 10 seconds until ready to eat. We enjoyed it, and wondered whether this was a trendy novelty concept, in addition to being an authentic appreciation of Yunnan foods. We used the house chili oil, which gave the soup a good kick in heat! Our server, Janelle, was very friendly and patient, knowing that this was a first time for us. She explained the process, which made it easy to understand. We explained that since this was our first time, we wanted to try the signature soup and then trying others the next time we visit. Hours of operation are daily from 11a to 8p. The restaurant interior is clean, bright, and spacious. Ambiance is casual and welcoming with interior décor of Chinese lanterns. Free parking is available in the Pearlridge Shopping Center that is shared with other businesses of the shopping complex. There are daily discounts: Monday - military 10%; Tuesday - senior 10%; Wed, Thurs, Fri - early bird discount. There is a 3% credit card fee. What interesting concepts in the authentic flavors, fresh ingredients, and unique "crossing the bridge noodles!" We look forward in returning to try different menu offerings of various soup broths, appetizers, dim sum, and desserts! A great introduction to Chinese hotpots!

And heaven forbid that you ask for chopsticks and an extra watered-down hot mustard. I spend at least $120 per order and the look she gives you, I feel like slapping it to knock some sense into her! Their business depends on us customers!

Looked over the menu and found a handwritten "Bento" sign located below the counter. Bento price is $7.50 except for the Meat Jun for $8.50. It comes with the main entree, 2 mandoo, 1 veggie and a scoop of rice...wow, good deal! Main entree choices are: Mochiko Chicken, BBQ Chicken, Chicken Katsu, Fried Shrimp, Fried Fish, Shrimp Tempura, Meat Jun or Musubi Combo. The veggie choices are: Choy Sum, Corn, Kim Chee, Shoyu Potato, Bean Sprouts or Japchae. You can substitute the rice for an extra veggie. I ordered the Meat Jun with Choy Sum. For $8.50, they gave a good amount of food which I enjoyed and had leftovers for another meal. The guy behind the counter was nice and service was fast. I would definitely return to try something different. This place is in Palama Supermarket that's located at Waimalu Shopping Center. Lots of free parking but this complex is always busy. Sometimes it's hard to find so park at the first stall that's empty. There are 2 entrances/exits that circles around so if you can't find parking, you have to circle around again because the isle is only one-way.

For some reason, the sauce almost had a rancid taste. The decor inside is still the same decor they've had for decades. They really need to update the interior. It was pretty hot too even though there was nobody inside. Maybe they turn down the AC to save money? Parking is abundant as it is located in the Ice Palace parking lot. I wish they would make the place better. I would only recommend this place if you are looking for the last Chinese lunch buffet on the island or you have no other option.

The first, and most annoying thing is, the strips of hot dog in my "7 treasure" noodles. Most places use ham? Other than that, the noodles had a decent flavor. The hot dog taste is off-putting though. The Kung pao chicken had a very loose gravy and not much taste. The Mongolian beef, although spicy, didn't have much else going on. The crispy gau gee was very crispy and well seasoned, the best of the 4 things by far... My phone order was quoted 20 to 25 minutes, it was ready when I arrived to pick it up and the worker was nice. Definitely not impressive for the total cost of $62. Stick to the dinner plate
