I like coming here for my pho fix. It is conveniently located for me. I always get the sliced beef pho and a thai ice tea drink. I tried their sandwhiches before and those are good too. I wish they had the special sandwiches that have the pate and sliced meat inside. We had the beef pho, summer rolls, spring rolls, and pork chop plate. All ingredients are FRESH. The vegetables, everything are fresh, beautiful with no browning. I can tell the summer rolls are made to order. Soft, no dry patches on the rice paper wrap. I wish they had some mint inside the summer rolls. Pork chop has the nice grill marks and taste. I enjoyed the pho broth. Everything tasted good and fresh. I would had enjoyed this meal more if the appetizers came out before the main dishes, rather than all at one time. Also, when our food came out, we were not given utensils or sauce dish. The food for the price is good. We ordered to vermicelli noodles with pork for TAKE OUT. Along with a bbq chicken Banh mi. Usually the Banh mi is pretty flavorful but this evening it was lackluster. The service is always fast professional and friendly. If you pay by credit card they charge an additional 3%. The place is always clean and I enjoy eating inside as well as take out. I came here on a Saturday late morning and the place was not crowded, although parking in this shopping complex always seems to be full. Tried the vegetable pho - the soup came out nice and hot and it came with your typical sides of bean sprouts, basil and hot pepper. Broth was a bit on the salty side for me. Vegetables were good. I was very pleased with my visit. We were greeted enthusiastically and kindly by the staff, who promptly came to our table to offer us water and place settings. I was very pleased to see they have bun Bo hue here, the spicy beef noodle soup I've seen many foodies claim is the best item on many pho restaurant's menus, as opposed to the other Vietnamese restaurants my family tends to frequent. It's very relaxing with the music at a nice volume, and the lighting well set to be bright enough to see clearly without being too piercing. It was also cooled well, without being freezing, a nice transition from the hot daytime weather we've been having lately. As for the food, I can see why so many people rave about this dish! I'd be pleased with a good bowl of pho as it is, but bun bo hue is fantastic. I don't have any basis for comparison with other places or authentic spicy beef, but I will definitely be looking for this from now on, or just coming back here more often! Haven't been by since before my dad passed a few years ago, but this was his favorite pho restaurant. I can see why now, and at least for the moment, it's become my favorite now, too. read more

This whole Hawaii trip definitely had a lot of "let's check this place out as soon as they open!" and my last meal for this trip was no exception. I got here a little after 9:00 AM Hawaii Time, but I was meeting with people there at 9:30. I walked around the plaza to get some morning steps in and to build up that morning appetite. Passing Pho Five-O, I honestly wasn't certain if they were open or not. I mean, it's a given that there will likely be no customers, or at least not visible at that hour. They also have the tables divided up with walls (if you aren't a people person, these are great!). I think they have a subtle tint with the whole front glass, so it's a bit tough to tell if they are open. Don't be shy. Grab that door handle, give it a gentle pull, and walk into what will likely be your favorite place for the next 45 minutes or so. There was only one person working at the front of the house. Not sure what the kitchen situation is, but our food came out pretty fast. Before our food came out, 2 other sets of customers came in, so this place seems pretty popular. One guy actually came in, and just sat right down. The person working called out what they normally order, and the guy only says "Extra Jalapeños!" And just chills back on his phone while seated. Def a regular! Lol Anyhoo!! The only thing I personally tried on their Pho. The broth is pretty good. It's nice and light, but not like flavorless lite. My plate was the rice dish with BBQ Pork and some Shredded Pork. Poured the fish sauce right over the shredded pork and bbq pork. There isn't too too much that I can say about this dish, as everything about it was pretty standard with a decent to good Viet restaurant. Good service. We came on a Sunday for lunch. Not that many people so we were able to sit right away. They have booths that are walled from other tables from behind. Inside is small however. I think from what I remember there are 6 tables in the side sitting 4 each and a long table in the middle of the restaurant. Food is good. Can't complain. Craving satisfied! Before my hubby and I even started dating, we'd get pho with our friends alll the time! Lots of pho places came and went but Pho Five-O has stuck! This place is located at the Waimalu Shopping Center. Hubby and I have not had pho in a LOOONG time! We usually get cold vermicelli bowls because takeout pho is just not the same experience as dining in. We decided to just go and satisfy our craving and Pho Five-O is fairly close to our house. My usual order is beef ball with steak and my hubby is only gets beef ball. There are no options for sizes here, only LARGE and I must say, they give ALOT! It was enough for my hubby but, my daughter and I shared a bowl and still couldn't finish it. At ~$16 per bowl, that's a good deal in my opinion. The waitress made sure to check in on us and gave my daughter a bowl and fork which was nice of her. She was the only waitress and was also doing everything else like cashing people out, doing takeout orders, and answering the phone. It seemed she had lots of regular customers and was asking how they were doing and wishing everyone a happy new year. Overall, I'm so glad I was able to satisfy our pho craving at a Mom & Pop shop. I come to this plaza often but always skipped over this restaurant, I don't know why. Ever since the pho place I normally go to closed, I've been searching for a new pho restaurant. My friend recommended this place to me so I decided to give it a try one day. I ordered the pho with eye round steak with extra veggies to-go. The workers are very nice, it seems like a family owned business. I'm not sure if this place is more of a to-go place but when I came in there were a few people waiting for their orders and no one dining in. The food here is good, especially for the price. I think their pricing is a lot lower than most places. My only grudge was that they don't give any sauce with the orders which I would've appreciated. All in all, a fair place to try. read more

I mean who puts brocolli, head cabbage, and sliced carrots in pho? I always order tofu pho wherever I go, and this place was the worse! If you are craving some authentic pho, go to this mom-and-pop restaurant. This restaurant has been here for over 15 years.You can tell that the pho is cooked for many hours just like an authentic pho. Our family had pho with beef meatballs, beef brisket with rare beef on the side, and I had beef with tripe and a side of fried egg rolls. The broth was delicious, and the portions were generous. Ordered a couple of lemon grass chicken sandwiches. Having to wait 15 minutes for the sandwiches, I noticed signs that this place charges for everything. Take out container, sauces, using a credit card. Also noticed a sign that stated no return/exchange for food/drink. Not very customer service oriented. If you like your sandwich with a soft chewy bun and lemon grass chicken without lemon grass flavor, this is the place for you. Won't be returning. The cold front we had this week had me craving pho. They're allowing dine-in seatings but real limited. When you enter, there's a table with hand sanitizer and a note requesting that you sanitize upon entering. On another table they had loose leaf paper and pens for the people dining in to report their name and address due to the pandemic. They had 3 tables set up for dine in. Luckily I didn't need to fight for the tables because I got take out. I ordered a large pho with just brisket and my husband ordered the large pho with rare steak and beef balls. Our orders were neatly packed and appropriately separated. When assembling, we didn't need to heat up the broth because the broth was super hot and enough to cook the rare steak. The broth is very flavorful and good on its own. I'm the kind of person that enjoys the taste of a good broth without adding any other sauces. I do however like to make my own concoction on the side to dip my meat in. If you're in the mood for pho and need take out, pho 5-0 is reliable and able to satisfy any pho crave. read more

Looking through yelp for another pho restaurant (someplace we never tried before) we came across Pho Five-O located in the Waimalu Plaza shopping center (across Cutter Ford diagonally). They redid the parking lot awhile ago. Stalls used to be at a 45 degree angle (making parking alot easier) and now they are all at 90 degree angle slowing down traffic into the center. I guess can fit way more cars this way. The restaurant is situated in the center off the mall. The restaurant is aircontioned and clean. (looks to be renovated not too long ago) The booths are well seperated and isolates diners well (specially if you paranoid). and some vietnamese type music was played. (after awhile it just becomes white noise dining music) Staff was nice (definetely from the motherland) but understood and spoke english well. Menu had a good variety of pho... noodles rice dishes and others.. I went with their bbq beef rice dish. It came with Jazmin type rice (on the dry side but I believe thats the way it supposed to be) cucumbers lettuce tomato and a good portion of lean beef. The bbq beef wasnt overly sweet and had a good smoke meaty taste . Overall a cool dining experience ... prices wasnt too bad.. decent portions in a cool aircondioned atmosphere. Oh they even have a bathroom for customers but you need to walk through the kitchen (kitchen seemed to be clean) all good! read more

With COVID-19 it hasn't impact the quality of their pho!!! Yummy yummy yummy!! I ordered my regular chicken pho and hubby ordered combo pho and each pho was loaded with with meat and the broth was delicious. We also ordered the papaya shrimp salad and the amount of spice was just right. Just the right portions and we were stuffed!! Great place to check out if you are hungry. Noodles were the thin pho noodles usually in the bun and not the wider pho noodles so I was disappointed. Otherwise the basil was really really fresh and nice. Bean sprouts were fresh, too. Tip - Let them know... We don't use the jalapeño peppers that are usually on the plate with the basil and bean sprouts so we let them know. We also eat only half the bean sprouts so we ask for only half. We figure small restaurants need all the help they can get in keeping costs down. read more

5/14/22 First time back prior to being a yelper. IMO the key factor that's separates a good pho place is the dashi, soup base. Here it is ono; full of flavor. The noodles were different than other places. More of a flat vermicelli noodle. It's still good and didn't change my view. What I did notice was that the spring rolls was less then what I've had elsewhere. Usually there are 6 halves. Here there are only 4 halves. 2 less and the same price. I get it; trying to save money but this is why they got only a 4*. Like most pho restaurants, the customer service is good. This is no different. The owner was very friendly and pleasant, making everyone feel comfortable. The restaurant was very clean and safe. Tables were divided by more sturdy dividers. This review is just for the pho. Frankly, pho is the only dish I really care about, though I enjoy an occasional vermicelli bowl, summer rolls, or spring rolls. I've been a "pho-natic" since my college days, enjoying pho in San Diego's City Heights and even Orange County's Little Saigon. I love pho so much, I sometimes choose it over ramen or a fancy meal. So how does Pho Five-O stand out? - CLEAN, BUT BEEFY PHO BROTH This restaurant must have taken my cousin-in-law's Yelp review to heart because the pho broth wasn't bland to me. The broth was actually pretty flavorful and CLEAN to me. Ample amount of noodles and meat in my medium bowl of steak and brisket, and I remembered to order steak on the side this time! My husband demolished his large bowl of steak and tendon pho. Standard condiments and side veggies were included. Vietnamese coffee was served in a styrofoam cup. - CUSTOMER SERVICE No kidding, I observed three takeout order pickups in the time we dined here, and all three and the hostess were personable to each other, from "I hope you stay safe" to "your son is big and just had a haircut!" That told me these customers were regulars. The same hostess greeted my husband and I warmly upon entering, something you don't always see in mom and pop Vietnamese joints. Ranking all the pho in Aiea, I'd say this place is behind my other favorite Aiea pho by the skin of their teeth, all because the other place has a slightly beefier flavor, and more meat and size options, though the other place gets pretty busy. Pho Five-O is still better than the rest of Aiea's pho, though I haven't tried the newest addition yet. Come here for a nice pho broth, nice customer service, and no wait times.
