One of my kids weren't feeling good so I figured go get him some pho for lunch, Pho Waipahu looked like they had some good reviews so I called ahead to order his combination pho and papaya shrimp salad for me. When I got there I remembered I got papaya salad from this place years ago but it sucked and that's why I never went back. Anyways, I walk in and don't get a greeting from anyone. Whatever. I pay for my order and then that's it. No "Thank you", "Have a nice day!" Just silence. So already the customer service is pretty shitty. I get home and open up my container and then I'm like wtf, the shrimp were all cut in half. Why would they even do that. That shit is so weird. You basically put like 4 shrimp in my plate and cut it in half. The salad came with 2 sauces, a sweet chili and a watery one I thought was fish sauce. I put the watery one on and it was so sweet. I was like wtf is this!? Plus the papaya was so tough. That salad was so junk so now they are 2 for 2 for bad papaya salad. I'll remind myself to NEVER go there again. Pho Waipahu is probably one of the best Vietnamese restaurants on the west side. My friend was raving about them for weeks till he convinced me to journey there to meet him for lunch. They were easy to find but stalls are narrow in the parking lot. The restaurant is spacious, bright and clean. They had a bunch of diners and it smelled good so I was excited to give them a try. There were only two staff members serving customers and the kitchen staff in back. Customer service was a little slow and we had to flag them for everything. They do provide you a small plate of their sauté sauce, Sriracha and hoisin sauce. You can ask for more which I did. Odd the condiments were not on the table to help yourself. The fresh veggies were generous but no culantro provided. We did ask them to cook the bran sprouts. My friend got their beef stew with egg noodle and I got their combination pho with the rare steak on the side. Both came out in a reasonable time. Portions for the beef stew were generous! So much tender meat and the soup was flavorful. It was so good that I ordered one to go with their freshly baked bread. The pho was better than I expected and a good portion size. Pho is always the "go to" but more so on a rainy day. Came here twice in a week...yep, that's how yummy it is! Located in the same complex as Savers in Waipahu. There is a decent size parking lot. Bonus is that they open at 10am! Service was good. They are constantly busy with people coming and going. You can be ordering with one person and asking another one for help. They all help each other out. It's a cozy place with probably a dozen tables, ranging from 2-6 tops. There are also counter seats. The first time I went, I got a large (yes, large for a $1 more, why not? lol) pho combo #10 (no photo of this- I was too focused on eating since it was my first time there ). Yum! Their hot sauce mix was different from the other pho places I go to. They "prepare" it for you in that small dish. It looked like hoisin, sriracha, and their own chili mix. My second time there, I got the oxtail pho and my bestie got the rib pho. We shared the oxtail and ribs. What can I say? We killed it...and we had seconds on their "dipping" sauce. Oh, we also had an order of the spring rolls and that was good too. I've gone to the "other" place in Waipahu that has the oxtail and ribs and if you're asking how it compares? I'm not a pho snob, so I'd say it's about the same. I think the sauce makes or breaks a place so if I had to lean one way, it would be Pho Waipahu. The pho broth is very flavorful but they put a ton of onions (both green and white) which I have to remember to ask for none next time because it's just too much for my liking. I always order the chicken pho but don't think I will be doing that again because this last time I had a lot of small bones in my chicken. It really disappointed me because I really love chicken pho. Combination Pho (Pho Dac Biet) - 5 stars - I chose the Large for $19 and gave some of my noodles to my son. When it comes to pho, it's the broth that makes the pho, and it is very flavorful here. Not watery, and a strong flavored broth, it was so good, I actually drank the whole soup. There were a variety of meat and they did not skimp on the tripe. The garnishes were only bean sprouts, basil and lemon. Didn't have any other vegetables with it. Their sauce is already made in a dish for dipping, but the broth was so flavorful, I didn't need any. I did use it for the meat at the end. My son got the steak pho, he got a good portion of meat, but he said the meat was a little tough. My son loved his thai tea, but I didn't care for the boba lychee smoothie too much (3 stars) because I tasted some powder in the drink and the boba was as soft and chewy as I like it. Service was great, and no extra charge for using credit card. Lots of parking in this complex, but can get crowded since they share parking with a lot of other stores. Pho Waipahu came recommended by a friend, so I was excited to finally check it out. The broth was good, and the overall the food showed potential. However, the service missed the mark. My side of bean sprouts and basil never arrived, and by the end of the meal there was still no acknowledgment or an apology for the oversight even after I asked for it as its a given when you order pho. What surprised me most was the lack of a simple "thank you" as we left--something I genuinely value when dining out. Or an apology for forgetting an important side that always comes when you order pho. Overall, Pho Waipahu lands in the "maybe" category for me. My biggest complaint is the noodles, most of the rice noodles were broken into little pieces. This was a decent bowl of soupy noodles but falls short if it's labeled as bun bo hue. Searching for accessories for a costume at the Savers, we built up an appetite. Walked over to try this restaurant for first time. The place was clean, including the bathroom which sometimes plays a part on how clean kitchen is. The decor was pretty normal for this type of place, with enlarge photos of different meals on the walls. Originally I thought I'd have Pho, however changed my mind to try a new dish. I ordered a sandwich with bbq pork, husband with chicken. They both came out on a baguette with pickle carrot and a sweet root and cucumbers. Like the mix of pickled sweet root with meats flavor. Pho is my go-to meal to treat myself. I've had pho countless times during college in various Little Saigon districts in Southern California, so I'm pretty picky about pho broth. While I can see how many people think all pho tastes the same, after having many bowls, I would not agree! Never thought I would say that Pho Waipahu's pho broth has improved since my review two years ago! I come here pretty often, even when I'm solo just to order medium pho. I think Pho Waipahu has the best pho in Waipahu and even Kapolei! It's actually up there with my original favorite on the Westside, Pho and Company, but Pho and Company has been hit or miss in the last year or so (on top of their increasing prices), while Pho Waipahu keeps getting better! I hear Pho Waipahu shares the same owner as Pho Kapolei, but I haven't tried the latter yet. I had Pho Waipahu earlier today, and I was shocked that the broth tastes more savory and less sweet than past visits. I don't really care for sweet pho broth. The broth was a little salty, but it can be fixed with lemon juice, sriracha's acid to cut the saltiness, and the right amount of basil and bean sprouts. As always, I order steak on the side so the steak would only start cooking at the table. Hubby and I enjoy their bun bo hue too, and I'm not the biggest fan of it either. I haven't tried their pupus and rice and vermicelli bowls because I enjoy their pho that much. I did notice that the medium bowl is a bit on the small side that even someone with a small stomach like me can comfortably finish a bowl. I don't mind the smaller size when the pho broth is tasty. Quality over quantity! Restaurant is spacious enough, though if you sit at the bar, the AC will hit you directly. Seriously, Pho Waipahu is my top pick for pho in the area. Stumbled upon this place after getting my mom's car serviced. This restaurant is in the same plaza as Savers. When we arrived, we sat immediately and there was no one else in the restaurant. We got serviced right away. I ordered the steak pho in large and I got a side of broth and side noodles for my son. They have 3 different sizes for pho which is medium, large, and extra large. The lady said the medium was pretty small, so I ordered the large and finished my whole bowl. The broth is so good and the rare steak was really tasty as well. We also got a side of tofu summer roll which was amazing. I definitely rank this as one of the top pho places, though I do wish they had sauces on the table for you instead of the pre-made sauce they give. Prices are comparable to other pho restaurants. I left the restaurant sad... Because my favorite brisket pho is going to be 5,000+ miles away from home! My (picky) kids and I came here on a whim after being unable to decide what to eat for dinner. The pho had a nice flavor but it was the most expensive we've ever had and was also smaller than we usually get. The size of the medium bowl was the same as most place's small or child size. The price was more than a large at other places and the meat was scarce and thin. Not a great value. The Bahn mi was just okay. Not a great barbecue flavor but comparable with other places we have tried Service was good at the start of the meal but the bill took ages to arrive. This place was okay. We were hoping to love this pho restaurant since we live so close by but we're disappointed by our overall experience. The prices are high for the portions you get compared to other restaurant. I don't mind paying more if the food is good but the pho itself came out lacking in flavor, noodles over cooked and mushy, and soup strangely not even hot... what's even weirder is that they don't give you the sauce condiments on the table to mix yourself, instead they put hosin, siriacha and chili oil all mixed together in a small saucer so you have no control over what you'd actually like. Service was terrible. The two gentlemen working spent more time talking to each other rather than working. We waited forever to get seated, waited forever to order, had no water refill until the very end when we were already done eating, and waited forever to get someone's attention to ask for the check. The food however did come out quickly. Music playing was soooo loud and inappropriate with lots of swearing (not ideal when eating with a five year old). The best part of this all was the convenience- tons of parking, no wait time, and the food came out super quick! I always go for the combination pho, and here the pho comes in 3 sizes: medium, large, and extra large. Me and my boyfriend decided to share an extra large pho, and they were able to provide us with a small bowl for sharing. They give you a premix of sauces with chili oil, hoisin, and sriracha. I do wish they had all the different sauces on the table so we could make our own- mostly because I'm not a big fan of sriracha and we weren't able to put the sauce directly in our pho bowl. We also got an order of their shrimp summer rolls. You can tell that they pre-made it ahead of time, which is understandable but it was just a bit stale. Hubs and I were starving (ok I was) after visiting a doggie boarding place in Kunia and decided to grab lunch somewhere - found this place thanks to Yelp! It's located in the same shopping center as Pacific Supermarket, which gets busy on the weekends so you'll probably end up parking in the lower lot but at least there's parking! It was peak lunch time so there weren't any tables availability but the entire counter was free so we got our pick of seats. Before we even ordered, a table freed up so we thankfully avoided staring at a wall of black marble for our entire meal. It was pretty marble, don't get me wrong, but wouldn't have made for a great dining experience with the hubs. The servers were quick and efficient - had to be in that busy restaurant - and we soon got our Oxtail Soup (mine) and Steak and Meatball Pho (hubs). We probably didn't need the order of fried spring rolls but we were starving - wished they came first to take off the edge but they came shortly after our meals arrived. Hubs says the chili oil wasn't as spicy as other places but he slurped his whole bowl down so I don't think that was a problem. Broth in the Oxtail Soup was nicely balanced but the meat could have been more tender. Definitely a solid choice for Vietnamese in the area, would come back to try other dishes! read more
