I love that they give so much fried rice with a combo and not like a little small bowl. I also love that the curry was a good size mini plate chicken curry. While visiting another business in the same complex we decided to try out Ramen-Ya. It's in a strip mall, the restaurant itself is fairly small and like other places it's size the air conditioning is low so diners don't stay a long time. We were seated at the bar and quickly waited on. Husband ordered the Spicy Miso and I ordered the Vegetable Ramen. He enjoyed his soup and liked the broth and contents. I enjoyed my Ramen loaded with vegetables and the broth was tasty. I took half of mine home for the next days lunch. Next time I think we will try the combination, which looked interesting. As I'm reviewing my check, I notice a $1.20 charge for my take out container. Honestly not a HUGE deal. But I QUIETLY pulled the server to the side to let her know, that maybe next time it would be nice to just let customers know "oh just to let you know we charge for take out containers, do you still want one?" I'd have paid it no problem. Working in customer service, if it were me, my response would've been like oh I'm so sorry thank you. Or oh ok thank you. Whether or not they continue to withhold this info is moot. But it's the way you just acknowledge the customers' concerns. Here's her response to my suggestion (which was said in a very pleasant trying not to be offensive tone), "oh it's on all the walls" !!!!!! And is it HUGE on the walls NO. Do they have a million different signs on the walls? Yes? Do you as a customer read each and every sign on the wall when you are just wanting to get in and out of there. If food was amazing, prices were good, service great and they charged for containers would I come back? Definitely. The service here is immaculate. We came right on time where we got the last table before a rush came in. My husband got the ramen combo with fried rice to share with my baby and then I got the beef curry plate. The portion size of the beef curry was enough for 3 people. The plate needs more vegetables. There was an amazing portion of beef and more than enough curry sauce, but every bite felt so redundant. This ramen place actually uses vegetables in their fried rice compared to just the regular green onions that are usually used. They also give extra gyoza for dining in which was awesome. I should have done an update review about six months ago - vast improvements at this location. Service: First, the main person who greets you at the door and seats you is now a very courteous young man instead of semi rude Chinese ladies. When we arrived there were only seats at the counter or an estimated 20 min wait for a table. We opted for the counter. This nice young man told us that one table would probably clear out very soon and we could move. Sure enough, it did and we took our glasses off water with us to the nicely cleaned table. Another plus that's different from the past is because there are no noisy Chinese ladies talking to each other (instead of being more attentive to the customers) it's a nice, pleasant dining experience now! Not sure when this changed, but it's been at least six an Off having the nice young man instead. We ordered and hubby got the black garlic ramen. Forgot to take a pic, but having had this on my previous visit, I can describe it. Flavor from the ample serving of black garlic is delicious. Also has wakame and a boiled egg. Both really add to the umami flavor, and thick ramen noodles were slightly chewy, just the way they should be. May not be a top ramen shop caliber, but for the price you get a lot and the taste is good and it's worth the price. Daughter had a craving for gyoza since that was supposed to be what she got for lunch but things had gone awry at school so no gyoza. She opted for Combo Set A, which is Ramen, Gyoza, and a choice from several options. She selected gyoza curry rice. She was pleasantly surprised that the gyoza on the curry rice were deep fried. So she had a meal with both pan fried/steamed and deep fried. She said while the filling was the same in both, the different cooking methods changed the overall flavor and she really liked both. This curry rice was like a mini meal with plenty of rice and gravy. She couldn't eat all of the pan fried gyoza, there was so much food. I opted for the Set A with mochiko chicken. Like daughter's the Michiko chicken was like an entire mini with a large scoop of rice and a scoop of Japanese style and mac salad and three large pieces of mochiko chicken. First, Ramen was cooked just right, noodles were chewy as that should be. Broth was good, and was made better with a dash of pepper. Gyoza was good. The server forgot to tell us which bottle was gyoza sauce (as opposed to plain shoyu) but we figured it out. Basic gyoza sauce. It was good. Mochiko chicken was hot and crispy on the outside and the chicken was nicely flavored - good marinade. Japanese mac salad was basic, as expected. I'm not a fan in general, but it was well made and most who like Japanese mac salad would probably be ok with it. It's a lot of food (Set A is touted as the best deal, and it really is with the six or so side options). Had almost all of the mochiko leftover and some gyoza. Took it home, along with daughter's extra pan fried gyoza for a mini gyoza and a mini mochiko chicken lunch. Have had the fried rice in the past and enjoyed that. Daughter has had the beef curry side before and it had actual pieces of beef and veggies, so it was substantial. If you are hungry get Set A. Or end up with a mini meal out of the leftovers to take home. Will continue to eat at this Ramenya location. For the value - price, taste and quantity - it's five stars for this level of a ramen shop. read more

We ordered the Big Bowl Ramen and Shio Ramen with side orders of Gyoza, Mochicko Chicken, and Fried Oysters. I think we over estimated the food quantity as there was so much food left over. The Big Bowl Ramen was massive and for $12 it was a steal. The Big Bowl Ramen comes with Chicken Katsu, Egg, Pork, Corn, Bean Sprouts, and other veggies inside. I barely made a dent when eating it. They were also very generous with the Mochicko Chicken, it wasn't over cooked and it was crunchy. Their Fried Oysters was a new item on their menu, although the pieces were a little small it was very delicious (it came with 4 pieces). The Gyoza was cooked well and the meat was flavorful. My fiancé enjoyed her ramen and managed to finish it all. We had so much left overs that we took it home. That Big Bowl Ramen lasted me till the next day. We haven't eaten here for a few years and the last few times, my son ordered the fried rice. We ordered in the afternoon which offers a free serving of gyoza along with combo A : mini shoyu ramen, fried rice and gyoza. However, an hour after eating the ramen, drinking the broth, and eating a spoonful of fried rice, he got severe hives which he hasn't gotten since a decade ago from accidentally ingesting dirty/mirky beach water. We're not sure what was in the soup, but it tasted really salty, but not a regular salt taste - there seemed to be some type of msg or additive/chemical loaded in the soup base or maybe something in the ramen or plastic container to cause a severe allergic reaction after eating their food. The char siu tasted processed as well. Sad to say, I think although they offer reasonably priced ramen and free gyoza in the afternoon, we won't be eating there again because his hives were pretty scary. As one of the few ramen shops close to my neighborhood, it pains me to have to give this place a sub-par rating. I've tried several ramen shops while on island and everytime I've come here the ramen is just "Okay". Not a place I would recommend taking someone who's never tried ramen before if you're showing them around the island. I always get their version of the "Spicy Tan-Tan ramen" and I've noticed that the quality of the soup is just not the best. The flavoring is a bit bland. So much so that I end up having to douse my "spicy" ramen in chili sauce or chili pepper powder just to get the spice level to where I need to be. The gyoza is alright. It's never very hot when it comes out, always pretty warm and the soup broth is just okay. The service is pretty "meh" as well. It's not terrible but the waitresses always seem like they would rather be somewhere else instead of serving you. This is a place I would go, if I'm craving ramen but there's no other better ramen shops to choose from. read more
