    Yaki Yaki Yaki-Teriyaki Chicken Plate.
    Patricia S.

Aloha folks! Tonight I ordered an Hula 1/2 Chicken for dinner and when I opened the plate to go, the teriyaki was just poured on and it wasn't really marinated as I thought, the chicken was dry and I was very disappointed. The take out service was great but I wish the chicken was moist.

Came about 20 minutes after opening. We wanted to try their country fried noodles but the lady said that wasn't ready yet as they just opened. We got the #21 Portuguese Saimin, Lau Lau with Beef Stew, side of the Mac Salad, and the Single Banana Hot Cake. They came out fairly quick as it wasn't that busy. Saimin was good. I added shoyu and the taste made it slightly better. Lau Lau and Beef Stew were good too. It was surprising that the lau lau had butter fish inside. Not many people put in butter fish. The Mac Salad had a good taste. It was different than other places. The banana hot cake was dry and hard to cut into but taste was alright. Inside was clean and bright. The lady was friendly and easily remembered what we ordered without writing it down. We'd come back here to eat when we visit Oahu again.

The food was good and reasonably priced. The service is friendly and with a smile. I love the ambiance with all the great pearls of wisdom provided. Shiro was a very funny charismatic type person though I was never lucky enough to meet him. I love all his notes in picture frames. Shiro's has been around for a very long long time and I hope it continues to be part of my grandchildren's future too.

Shiro's from when I was a kid till now is always my favorite place even though it's different now.. the memories and the food makes it special, my parents used to take me there, my drawings were on the wall, I loved the hamburger steak now I love the #55 with the hula burger and no forget the side Mac salad service is good and now days I take the grandkids out for lunch there I hope they always stay open cause a lot of the old places are closed

If I could eat this everyday I would. My first saimin experience and my boyfriend's local best friend said, "you gotta go to shiros". And being the haole I am I said, "but it only has 3.9 stars". This place was fantastic. Ignore the negative reviews and go!!!!!

Not just another staple stop whenever do make it back home. So much found memories growing up going to Waimalu shopping mall for dinner with Ohana. It literally down bottom of Newtown grew up. Shiros Saimin Haven not only staple but from 808 know one best spots on island for Saimin. I ended up going twice while I was back home. The first time went with Saimin action! So fwk good. The broth always on point, noodles perfect, and toppings the won ton. Really perfect bowl of noodles. Second time mixed it up got Bento A. Don't normal order but love the diversity get from cone and maki sushi. Fried noodles, Teri beef, and chicken katsu. Lot of food get moneys worth. Also everything is so tasty. Shiro's Saimin Haven never disappoints and if looking for Saimin action da bomb!!!

Came here because I had a craving for saimin. Came at 2pm and it was packed! Had to wait just a little bit for a table luckily. Server came by with water fairly quickly and then took our orders. Food arrived quickly! It definitely hit the spot. Tons of noodles and lots of garnish, just the way I like it. Will definitely be back when I get the craving for saimin again!

We visit Oahu every year and Shiro's is a must every time! Everyone there is always friendly no matter how busy they are and the dining area is always clean, neat and tidy. Their selection of saimin is mind boggling, so do some homework before you go there or prepare to spend some time going through the menu. If someone in your group is not into hot, delicious noodle soup, don't worry because they also have plenty of Hawaiian plate meals. It is always worth the drive from Ko Olina or Waikiki to Shiro's.

I ordered #57 at $18+ but many ingredients were omitted from the scanned menu for the ultimate or the description- no roast beef, egg , imitation crab, etc. Don't know if they ran out of ingredients or the cooks forgot. 1 star for the server who was single handedly taking orders, bringing food and drink and bringing the tab plus bussing the tables while 2 other workers were bagging goody bags. 2 nd star since I found 3 wun tun under my noodles. 3 rd star cuz when I hand motioned I needed a take out container she brought not only the coveted container but also a plastic bag and the check at the same time . She was excellent.

I was born & raised in Oahu and have NEVER tried a saimin place before... and man I was missing out! My husband loves eating at local places & was craving for a good saimin. We came about 40 minutes before closing and we were seated right away. This place is huge... I didn't even know they had additional seating in the back. It was like a cozy hole in the wall type of restaurant vibe. Service was 10/10!! Our server was so sweet and super inviting! We never felt rush during our entire stay and she made us felt like family! I wish I got her name but if you were the Filipino lady that was working Thursday night that helped us, you definitely deserve a promotion! I feel like she was more of the lead servers since the rest of the other servers were asking her for things... but amazing service! This is one of the main reasons why my husband & I will be a regular customer. They serve more than just saimin! They had lots of different variations of saimins, from the basic saimin to saimin with won ton & udon! The list went on... they also had plate lunches, burgers, sandwiches and so forth. I personally loved how they served green river. It definitely brought me back to my childhood and a sign that this business has been in business since back in the day. The food we ordered: Small won ton min (4/5): broth was flavorful, was very generous with the toppings. My only complaint was the won ton was more wrapper than it was filling. But other than that really amazing! Teri beef stick (5/5): I'm not a fan of Teri beef but I always see people getting Teri beef w/ their saimin & now I can see why. The Teri beef here was so flavorful! Grilled tuna sandwich (5/5): A warm toasty sandwich that feels like a hug. I loved that our food didn't take long to come out and it came out fresh & hot. Overall, I had a really great experience and would love to make this a normal go-to place to eat. I will be returning.

When you come to Honolulu, come here for a great tasting bowl of saimin filled with: delicious noodles and broth, fish cake, nori, poached egg, vegetables, and wonton. There are other saimin selections but I chose the Japanese style for its simplicity. Other menu items include hamburgers, sandwiches, desserts and beverages. Service is good and friendly. Our party of eight family members all got their dishes fairly quickly despite being the restaurant being crowded. Lots of comfortable seating along with pictures on the walls giving some insight to the original owner and how Shiro's is what it is today, a great place to eat.

It's the classic island style in Honolulu. It instantly brings back memories growing up in Hawaii. The service is warm, full of Aloha. The food is authentically only in Hawaii type. The nostalgia of old Hawaii. Omes back alive.

Service was a bit off. We arrived around 8pm and there were only a few tables seated, but the host seemed confused and it took a while to get us seated. Our server also wasn't the friendliest, just not the most welcoming or confident vibe. When we asked what fish was included in the course, she said she didn't know and just reassured us it was "good quality," which didn't feel very reassuring. We ordered the Sushi & Hand Roll Course (about $50 per person), which is actually a pretty good deal for the amount of food and slightly upscale feel. It included seasonal fish crudo, 9 pieces of chef's choice premium sushi, and a choice of two hand rolls: we picked shrimp tempura and spicy crab. One downside was the spicy crab hand roll used imitation crab, which was disappointing since that wasn't disclosed and we assumed it would be real crab based on the options given. Also, before we ordered dessert, our server told us the kitchen was already closed. Totally understandable, but there was no heads-up or last call, which would've been helpful. We still ended up getting the black sesame panna cotta, which was actually really good. Overall, the food was decent and the vibe is nice for a date night, but the service could definitely be improved.

I eat here often and didn't realize I haven't done a review!…read more Service here is very good. Hostess is ok but the servers are ALL great. Even the busboy is polite abs efficient. It's old school Japanese restaurant with a lot of choices. Reasonable quiet, spacious, and while it's getting about old looking, it's hard to be old school if it weren't. Occasionally we are early enough to get one drink at happy hour prices (to 4:30). Hubby enjoys the sake. He has a flight this time and was very pleased. Other times he gets the Orion beer (Okinawan - so pronounced Japanese style, not like the constellation). They now offer vodka soda, I had the Lychee flavor and it was very good. I couldn't find the calorie count on the can but it's pretty sweet so it's not like a seltzer. Prices can be steep so we try to take advantage of the Wed-Fri early birds special or the senior (all day) menu. We usually go for dinner. But once in a while for lunch. They do have lunch specials. This time we had the early bird special. Hubby always gets the teri short rib, which is boneless. I get the sashimi. Each has a charge, but to us it's worth it. All one with miso (white) soup with wakame and tiny squares of tofu. Pretty smooth. Ours comes with shrimp (3) and veg tempura (string beans, eggplant, white Japanese sweet potato) and California roll sushi. This time we opted for white rice because it (in our opinion) goes better with the teri short ribs and sashimi. Other times we've had the Cali rolls, which are good. Server gave us a salad (guess cuz we got white rice?) Regular priced menu items are a bit steep, but you can get good value with the specials or happy hour (appetizers)

We got smoked out and it got bad to the point where my eyes were getting watery. Not sure if this happens all the time at this spot- this was my first time. The service was okay. We waited over 10 minutes to get cups of water and to put in our order. I totally get that they were short handed which also explains why it took almost 40 minutes for us to be served. Ordered the Negi-Hamachi to try something different. Hamachi is my favorite fish served sashimi style so I decided to switch it up and order the Negi-Hamachi which is finely chopped, yellow-tail with green onion and wasabi over sushi rice served with tsukemono and miso soup. I was super happy with this because the Hamachi was delicious and surprisingly, I did not feel bloated or too full afterwards.
