I would give 4 stars because of the wait, but I understand they just opened, so I'm giving them 5 stars for now! I really enjoyed the deep-fried taro and steamed egg cream bun. The egg cream bun wasn't too sweet, which is exactly what I like. I'm so glad there's finally a dim sum place in Aiea, so I don't have to drive all the way to Chinatown anymore. They also have a pretty good variety of dim sum and other food to choose from. I noticed they already have some items ready at the front, but for other items you may have to wait since they need time to steam or fry them fresh. I think that's understandable, especially since they just opened and are still getting used to how busy it can get. Hopefully they can get through this busy opening period and continue to improve. Garlic chicken plate is delicious...flavor is great and it's actually not hard like other places. Local moco was good from what I was told. It had mushrooms and onions. It looked really good. Grand opening, I get it! Busy, busy, busy. The restaurant located at the old Zippys in Waimalu. On grand opening day, August 15th, personnel were great in taking orders. Only complaint I have that day, some of the items on their menu were not available and the wait time was close to 30 minutes. Also, their number 1 seller, the chicken with ginger sauce wasn't what I had expected. Wished the chicken had more flavor, it was bland. The ginger sauce needed more flavor as well, like something was missing in the sauce. Chun Wah Kam, located a few doors down, has a better tasting ginger chicken fried rice. I gave them a couple of weeks to improve. Visit Aloha Manapua a few days ago. Still the same nothings changed. Again, few items I wanted was not available. Again, I ordered their chicken with ginger sauce. Wished they gave this dish more flavor. Like Island Manapua located in Kalihi, their chicken with ginger sauce is really good! Their chicken had lots of flavor as well as their ginger sauce. Items I had ordered from here is their: 1. Baked Cha Siu Bao - Wife liked the amount of filling. She said it needs more seasoning. 2. Chicken Feet - Soft, tender, could use a little more seasoning. 3. Shrimp Dumpling - Shrimp should be a little more. But hey, my kids loved it. 4. Mochi Rice in Leaf - Excellent flavor - Good one so far! 5. Their # 1 Fried Chicken with Ginger Sauce - Again, this needs more seasoning. When I came, the dim sum menu was maybe 40% unavailable. IDK if they just sold out that day (I came around 1pm) or if it's available on certain days. The food was ok. My favorite is the shrimp dumplings (only because I love seafood) 4/5. Second was the pork 3/5. Average tasting and appearance wise not very pleasing. And last was the garlic fried chicken 2/5. The reason for this score, the chicken was cold and really no flavor without the toppings. I would rather use the garlic and onions toppings for the rice. Overall three stars. Went back again.. but only because this is the closest east of Ewa Beach. Deliberately went here for DIm Sum and was told there is table service in back. Being that I knew how the old Zippy's was set up I knew of the rear area. The Gate in the counter area was locked. But was told there was table service in the back. We went around back and found a very unassuming door that lead into a table service we sat there for close to 20 minutes waiting for someone. Finally fit someone's attention at the counter and they sent someone back. Was able to order 3 items out the 8 planned items. Although nobody checked on us we could have dined and dash. I had to go to the counter to say I wanted to settle our bill. As we left, the counter area was busy. Which could explain the neglect of the restaurant area. I will say that the food we did get was 5 stars. The Black bean ribs and chicken feet was very tender and not mushy. Still only giving 4 stars for the food. Located at the Waimalu Shopping Center where the old Zippys used to be. All orders are 10% off by the end of August. The line to order for take out was REALLY long. It was also super hot in there, we noticed 2 ceiling fans but they were not on... We went last weekend and I mean it was packed. Once our number got called we then went into the dine-in area to eat which was nice and air conditioned located at the back. Free shared parking was challenging at peak lunch hour on a weekend... even with the threat of Tropical Storm Lala. My neighbor appreciated the convenient restroom right outside of the dining area and the takeout counter. Look for the "flower wall". Service was very friendly and helpful. The server asked another worker (in Cantonese) if they had the dimsum items that we wanted. She knew that they had run out of baked cha siu bao (BBQ pork bun) and other items. We ended up with: 1. Hom sui gok - deep fried, stuffed, savory mochi... our favorite 2. Half moon - on the bland side... mushroom based 3. Duck-filled baked manapua - would be better warmed up 4. It's 8:57 am and already I'm third in line. 9am and still the door isn't opened yet. I blinked and it's 9:03am, finally a young gentleman is unlocking and opening the door. My turn to order at the window at 9:15am. Ordered siu mai (pork hash), char siu bao (char siu manapua), ha cao (shrimp dumpling), and mochi rice ball. Just 4 items. Shouldn't take long. First person in line got his order quickly. While waiting, I watched two people putting together orders. And I see a worker bagging one and goes to the take out order and calls out "#7"....but I'm #3, and lady #2 is still waiting for hers. And then he calls out another order "8". Finally I had to ask, about my order and my fellow patron #2. We were told pork hash is not ready. It's now 9:45am, and the worker said it'll be another 12 minutes. Too long of a wait. I requested to replace the pork hash with something of equal value, lo mai gai (lotus wrapped mochi rice). The crowd waiting for their take out is getting larger and larger. Not sure if I'll come back again soon. It's a little pricer and the wait, maybe it'll improve with time. Hopefully so does their communication between the front/back and with customer. I ordered a baked duck manapua and a fried garlic ginger chicken plate (there's no mini for this one). My total was 19.85 and it wasn't at all too bad in my opinion. The service was good, the last time I was here which was my first time (August 15 and they're grand opening was the 14th), the service was a bit faster and they my Manapuas weren't crushed or smushed. They were perfect, and I had ordered them steamed and baked char siu. It was really good and that's what motivated me to try it today. My cousin ordered 3 char siu Manapuas and the mini garlic chicken plate for her hubby. The ambiance gives casual and definitely take out feels. It's really hot because of all the body heat and then there's no fan or AC to keep it cool. Thank goodness the windows are tinted bc i definitely think if it weren't, it would feel even MORE hot. I have this place 4 stars because it is quite small and the humidity plays a part in irritability and peoples bodily odor not that it's the establishments fault completely. I just think if there is a way to establish a better order of things that it would make it a lot easier for it not to be so chaotic because it's already packed when there's hella people in there. There is a very very small dining area but like I said, the way it's so packed makes it really hard to breathe. It doesn't help that there is two hurricanes on its way here this week but again if you come or when you do, know that it gets a little crazy bc it's a bit of tight squeeze in there. Went after their opening weekend, after the Monday holiday, on Tuesday around 12:30. There were people waiting for their orders. They tape a piece of paper over items that are not available. Standard Chinese staff, but friendlier. Cashier repeated my order back to me, and gave me my receipt, which didn't list the items (was my credit card receipt) so I wondered how much each item was, since the dim sum menu didn't have prices. Chinese words beneath the English description was just the same thing in Chinese (thanks Google Translate). Waiting area has the same bench and table that was there when it was Zippy's, and they've added a few chairs. I forgot to look to see if the eating area in the back was still there, so I don't know if there's an eating area or not. Bench had a sticky back so I just stood up to wait. Waited 12 minutes for my order. I had ordered pan fried turnip cake, and when I got it home it was piping hot, so they fried it fresh, explaining at least some of the wait, if not all. Receipt with the items ordered and their prices was with the food. I had also ordered a duck manapua (cashier had repeated it) but it wasn't on the receipt or in the package. Disappointed, but at least I wasn't charged for it. Pan fried turnip cake flavor was ok, but it was very oily. Fried parts could have been crispier and inside was a little mushy. 3/5 Mochi rice balls pi wrapping was still moist, not dried out like it is in many places so that was a plus, however the mochi rice was a bit soggy and flavor was only ok. Needed shoyu/mustard. 3.5/5 Baked char siu manapua was very big. It was also cold, which was disappointing. But flavor wasn't bad after warming it up. Bread is a bit sweet, so is the char siu filling. Decent amount of meat. 4/5 I will return to try their other dishes. Want to try their chicken feet and plate lunches. Service was ok. Waited almost 20 mins for the duck which wasn't a problem. Got into my car and pulled it out of the bag and wondered why the bottom of the container was cold. So I took one piece it was hot; taste ok not much flavor more oily taste. looked and tasted like it was reheated/cooked. Meat was a bit dry. Grabbed another piece and it was cold and some of the other pieces was cold. Told my daughter to tell them the food was still cold. My daughter came back plate was hot. I was super hungry ate one piece and it overcooked and dried ended up dumping it. I wanted to go back in and complain but, I had to pick up my kids. I give this place a few months if not less. Went for the first (and last) time today, and it was not good. First of all, I went at about 11 a.m. and when I got to the window, almost everything I wanted was out. I generally like the "popular" dim sum items which I think most people would also like, so I know there might be demand. Still, if these items are popular, shouldn't you, as the restaurant, crank up preparation? Well, they at least had har gau (shrimp dumplings). I was going to get two orders, but it's a good thing I didn't. The shrimp filling was tiny, maybe half a small shrimp, and the rest was wrapping. I read a food review once about dim sum places that stated har gau is the thing that defines any good dim sum place. If the har gau is poor, everything else will be poor. That absolutely defines this place! I've gone to places in Chinatown like Sing Cheong or Hawaii Dim Sum where the shrimp is so huge, the wrapping barely covers it. When you bite into it, you get a mouthful of shrimp. (NOTE: It's $6.35 for three!) I also ordered char siu manapua because it is, after all, in the restaurant's name, so it should be good, right? Wrong! The only good thing I can say about the filling was that it was red. Flavor-wise? ZERO! I bit into it, tried moving it around in my mouth, tried inhaling a bit....nothing. Absolutely no taste! Also, there must have been only a teaspoon of filling. Bread to filling ratio is important. Finally, and I know this might be insignificant, but they give you a small, and I mean SMALL container of mustard shoyu. GREAT! Except that it it is 90% shoyu. There is maybe one drop of mustard in it. Is mustard that expensive? It must be! Chun Wah Kam is just a few steps away. While I'm not a fan of CWK either, it is still WAY better than this place! read more

The person taking order seems to be impatient. When asked for some ketchup I was given a single packet and when asked for a few more the person rolled her eyes and huffed. I get that they might be having a super busy morning so I let it go. But the food was not great. At least the the things that I ordered. Sui mai/ shrimp and pork hash had a bunch of cartilage and hunks of fat. The shrimp dumpling was not fresh and seem to want to disintegrate in my mouth as if it's been soaking in some kind of tenderizer for too long. The fried mochi was not that great. It wasn't very crispy and did not have very much filling. I did order a fried eggplant and french fries as well. Those two were pretty good but unfortunately, the french fries was the best thing that we had. I'm super disappointed as I was very excited to have a dim sum place closer to me. But oh well, I guess I will continue to make my trips to Chinatown. Kapunas beware, if you don't choose no tip, they will automatically charge you tip. While sitting there and eating my food, I heard three different kapuna share their frustration over the automatic tip. When requested a refund, since it was just a takeout order, it was refused. That just didn't sit right with me. I was down to give it another chance of as most places deserve a second chance, but I don't think I will be back because of that. Decided to try this place with all the hype since we live nearby. This is a very casual place so because parking was tight, I dropped off my wife and son to stand in line to order. This was right around 11:15 am. We waited over 30 minutes to finally get our food. We ordered 2 orders of har gau (my son usually loves this, however, he only ate the skin and left all the shrimp for me to eat). One order of pork hash in which like the har gau, the skin was separating from the pork hash. One order of the chicken feet in which the color looked a little off and needed more flavor. One order of the fried taro puffs which was okay. One order of the turnip cake which was bland. We also ordered the Ginger Garlic Fried Chicken with fried rice which I thought was rather odd having spam in the fried rice. We also ordered Roast Duck Cake Noodle in which the duck hardly had meat and they gave another container of gravy with won bok to help elevate the dish. We were not impressed. Being that this was their "grand opening" we had a ten percent discount. The saving grace was that the workers were nice. I think it had about 7-8 tables but it was nice and cool in there from the AC. Our server was great. We went around 2pm so it wasn't busy at all. We ordered the fried ginger chicken plate and a few dim sum to try. Although a little pricey, they did taste good. The pork hash needs work as the filling was falling out of the wrapper. The shrimp balls and half moon were good. Over all a great experience with service. The ginger chicken was very good. I only had a couple of dim sum items in mind and both were out: custard tarts and black bean jin dui so I ended up buying 3 baos @ $3 each minus 10% grand opening special through 8/31/26. I double checked my account and matched my receipt with amount charged to my account. It was so not worth it they have been over hyped the food is just average, the crispy roast pork was far from crispy the manapua was not good, pork hash was not good, only the charsui was good, and a little pricey. I would not recommend this establishment read more
