Went there about 11 and the parking lot is nearly full. We get stuck behind a couple of cars that are waiting/hoping that a car in the row will be leaving. There are more spots in the excess lot but nobody seems to want to go there and walk a few more steps to their destination. Ho'omana is in the old Futaba spot. My son and went there for some Friday night dinners. I loved that restaurant and hope I will love its replacement. It's our first time here and I like the vibe it gives off. The woman helping us is carrying a young baby until a babysitter arrives to take her away. The child is cute and friendly, repeatedly saying 'hi'. We're told there's a 15 minute wait because the cook is finishing up a large order. When the guy comes to pick up his order (a couple of large Costco plastic containers) the cook helps him carry it out. The order is large (justifying the price). The fried chicken is yummy and the ahi katsu is plentiful. We also order a couple of the poke. The poke is fresh and cut nicely into smaller pieces than Foodland. And there was unagi sauce over the poke that added umami flavor to it. Worth waiting for. read more

Super fresh, perfectly cooked, crispy on the outside, juicy on the inside... you can tell right away they're not messing around with quality. And then I added the fresh tako sesame poke on the side... yeah, that was overkill in the best way possible. Portion size? Let's just say they're not out here playing "fine dining small plate games." First off, the prices are very reasonable for the quality and portion size. I ordered the Ahi Combo ($22), which comes with ahi katsu and creamy garlic butter ahi. My plate had six generous pieces of ahi, three of each. The plate could easily feed more than 1 person! The ahi was cooked perfectly: crispy on the outside for the katsu, tender and flavorful throughout. The creamy garlic butter sauce complimented the ahi very well. The staff were welcoming and helpful, and the space looks newly renovated--clean, bright, and inviting. It is aggressively seasoned with salt then pan fried medium before being doused in a creamy buttery garlic sauce. The sauce is very garlic forward but with zero bitter oxidized flavor. Both can be ordered separately or as a combo for just a few bucks more. The fried chicken, winnah! So I walk in and place looks nice and clean. I order the combo of ahi katsu and fried chicken with potato salad and no rice. Guy cashier says if I wanted anything else so I ask can I substitute anything for the rice. He say Mac salad or toss, I say toss would be good. Lady from the back tells him it's three dollars more for the toss salad, I say no that's okay. I guess there is no substitution for the rice. Always in search of Good Fried Chicken and on a recommendation by Braddah Manu P, he told me that this place in Waipahu called Ho'omana Fish Company get some Ono Fried Chicken so of i had to make a trek out to Waipahu and give it a try. As for the Fried Chicken, Braddah Manu was on point. The Fried Chicken was perfectly seasoned and was lightly dusted with flour or some other ingredient. Fried Chicken was light and crunchy and no bones to be found so it was easy to eat. Fried Chicken came out piping hot and it was nice and juicy. It comes with two scoops of rice and choice of Mac or Potato Salad. Not gonna lie the Mac Salad had a just a tad too much Mayo if you ask me the Rice was ok as well. But for the $15 price tag I feel it was good value and I heard the Ahi Katsu is really good too. They even got Fresh Ahi Poke and Local Style Burgers as well. It's only been a month since Ho'omana Fish Company has been open and I feel with time this place can get busy. They are located next to Hashi Okazuya in the Waipahu Festival Marketplace. They even sell other items like Chili Oil,Seasonings and Pickled Onions too. Give Ho'omana Fish Comapny a try. Stumbled in yesterday after a visit to DLS and they were sold out of a lot of options so I could only get the Spicy Ahi. The service was very friendly and I wish I could have tried something not covered in heavy sauce as I would like to taste the quality of the fish but from what I could make out the quality was terrific! Absolutely buttery and no stringy or chewiness. The spicy sauce was great as well and not overpowering! It did taste a lot better than Foodland, almost comparable to Tanioka's but wayyyy cheaper! They offer plate lunches as well but seeing as I had just fasted, I didn't want to wait and this was close to closing time so I felt guilty making them fry anything at that point in the Day. I will come back and explore more of their menu. It's a couple stores down from Hashi Okazuya and shares the lot with the Waipahu Festival Market so parking although plentiful, can be very chaotic depending what time you stop by. So glad there's fresh new businesses popping up in the area. read more

After a doctor appointment in Waipahu, I talked my husband out of eating Arby's and trying someplace new like the Ho'omana Fish. So glad I did! Since we had the dogs in the car and I knew what I wanted, Da Ahi Combo with potato salad, my husband went in so he could look what he wanted and order our food. He said when he went in, he was hit with a wonderful smell. He couldn't help himself and said to himself, "What is that?!" Apparently he said it loud enough that a guy said, "Chicken skin! It's winnas!" So of course he ordered it along with my order and the Creamy Garlic Ahi for himself. For $8.00, the chicken skin was totally the winnas! When my husband was carrying it to the car, the lid couldn't close. It still didn't close even after eating several pieces on our way home. It was deliciously crunchy and not oily at all. The bag with the two plate lunches were unexpectedly heavy. You get the bang for your buck here. I was able to get several meals from these plates. The potato salad had a good taste. Straight up potato with mayo. Pretty solid favor that I enjoyed. The ahi katsu had a strong umami favor sauce which was good. Hindsight I would order the sauce on the side since there's so much that I couldn't eat it all and it would keep and reheat better without the sauce. There was a crunch to the coating and the fish had a fresh flavor. I throughly enjoyed the creamy garlic ahi. The sauce is light and smooth that the ahi and sauce complimented each other making it a wonderful bite. The fish wasn't hard or overcooked. I wonder if they would cook it rarer if requested. There is a great contrast in flavor between the ahi katsu and the creamy garlic ahi. So when you get the combo, you will experience opposite spectrums of a flavor profile. My husband said he noticed how clean it was when he opened the door. It impressed him enough because he never told me that about any other place we got food from. He also said the people were really nice. We found another go to place especially to take our kids when they come back home from the mainland. 1st of all I saw this place on the social media Facebook just opened about a week now I think so after my husband dentist appointment I told him let's try them. So we drove to Waipahu they located close to Hashi okazuya at the end of the bldg. I ordered their ahi fish katsu sauce on the side. My husband ordered their special new item menu beer battered Mahi Mahi. My ahi kstsu was massive had 3 big pieces of ahi katsu though they were lacking some salt on the fish. That's why they give you the sauces whether on it or separate like I ordered. For $18.00 comes with 2 scoops rice, potato salad, and the katsu. My husband one cones with French fries and the battered fish. He said if they had dine in the fish and fries would have been good. The French fries were soft and limpy like never fry them long enough to make it crisp. The poke was good. They were training a boy who was taking orders since I think it was the owner who making other people's orders before us. If you like to try their ahi katsu go and support them. My new go to for spicy ahi poke!! Very fresh, flavorful, and love that they cut the fish into smaller pieces compared to some other places. They also have tako and imitation crab poke that's really good too. Fried rice was on point. They also have a cooked menu - ahi katsu, fish & chips, fried chicken, etc will def go back to try those. It's a family run business and they are just the nicest people who also support other local businesses by having local snacks and baked goods for sale at their shop as well. Early reviews recommended to go early because they run out fast. We did just that.. got there just after they opened. Two things I wanted to try, they said they don't have it.. fried rice and chicken skin. They didn't even have poke at that time. The bbq plate that has kalbi and bbq chicken, the kalbi and chicken were burnt on the bottom. They put the nice side up. They are fairly new so hopefully things get better. Ahi katsu was pretty good, probably like an 8.5 or 9 out of 10. Good portion, crispy breading, and the sauces were super good. My only complaint is that never had enough sauce.
