I swear, If this sushi place closes.... I'll go crazy. Hands down one of the best places to get my sushi fix! It's not only the food that's amazing but of course the customer service! The area is pretty small. But He always takes care of his customers from beginning to end. Explains each plate in detail, makes sure if that's what you want if not he'll recommend other choices, checks up on you while awaiting for your food and when waiting for your food.. he's so pleasant to hand off your food instead of you getting your order. Place has been here for a long while and I hope they stay for a long while! Free parking as they're located under Aiea bowl. On the other side from McDonald's. Please check them out! You won't be disappointed!

Tucked away on the same level as McDonald's in Aiea, this sushi spot is a place where locals go. It might be easy to miss, but once you find it, you'll be glad you did. There's convenient parking, and while there's no indoor seating, the outdoor tables make for a casual vibe. Service is impressively quick, and the portion sizes are generous--ordering just one roll can be a lot for one person. If you're with friends, I highly recommend sharing a few different rolls to get the full experience. The staff (or possibly the owner) was incredibly kind and helpful. He let me know the fresh ahi was sold out for the day, but offered great suggestions for other rolls to try. Prices are fair, especially considering the portion sizes and Hawaii's cost of living. If you're in the area, this spot is a must-try. Delicious sushi, great service, and a chance to support a small business :)

Makoto is a hidden gem in Aiea! We ordered sushi for two and got the Jin Roll, Forever Roll, and Goldfish. We were not expecting how much food we'd get, the portions were huge and we had leftovers. Everything came with a pre-dressed salad, wasabi, and pickled ginger. Our favorite was the Forever Roll which had tempura and spicy ahi. The Jin roll had ahi, crab and salmon, and the Goldfish also had ahi, crab, and topped with ahi, salmon, and unagi. Heads up on parking: there is a lot, but it's busy and partially blocked off due to some construction. We ended up parking by Aiea Bowl and walked down the stairs (elevator was out of order when we went, 5/20/25). Not a big deal, but something to keep in mind. There are five outdoor tables that are shared among the businesses in the plaza, so seating is limited. Drinks are available from a fridge inside, it's bottled/canned only, no fountain or self-serve. The guy at the counter was super nice and brought each customer's food out to them when it was ready. Great service and amazing value.

Came here to pick up lunch and I was very impressed by the customer service. The cashier was friendly and patient with us as we decided among the many rolls to choose from. He even included a menu in our bag to take home and look at. The rolls are about $14-$18 each and even though the price seems steep for a roll, once you see this bad boy, you'll realize why. The roll was HUGE. Like I'm talking PHAT. I was full after eating half the roll and saved the rest. They did not skimp on the crab salad on top of the roll and the shrimp tempura was a big boy too. It was well sauced and not too spicy for me. There is parking on the first, second, and third floor, but it can be hard to find parking with all the amazing eateries in the center. There is some tables outside for people to sit and eat at, but we took it home. If you looking for lunch, I would def check this place out!

Had to add another review-- back again!! We got the Jins and fire roll (add unagi sauce!!) I'd recommend phone ordering in advance to have it ready by the time you get there. Service is amazing & the sushi is perfection every time.

Great service and portions! Strictly to-go setup with tables for dining outside -- but go somewhere more scenic to enjoy. Crazy sized rolls that's generous with proteins. Poke plate was generous, too. Location: when you reach top of entrance ramp and see "MINI MALL", turn left and you can't miss it. Plenty of parking.

A hidden gem indeed. Sushi at its finest. My first time here so I ordered the dragon tear and texas sushi. The portions are huge. So much flavors packed in each bite. The ahi melts in your mouth and the crab mix is perfect on the dragon tear. Freshly made upon ordering and worth the price. The texas sushi, the crisp on the shrimp tempura was so crunchy that I enjoyed every bite. I must say that this was my first time tasting the actual unagi and she's pretty mean. The area where this is located is super clean in and out. Its also very a very cool shady spot to sit and enjoy your dish. Service was a 10. If you love sushi and looking for a new place to try, don't hesitate to make a drive to Aiea and taste the goodness. They don't disappoint. #SupportLocal

One box is only about $15! The rolls are so filling and fresh!

This review is like seven years in making! I love Makoto Sushi! I loved it when I lived and worked in Pearl Harbor when I was active duty. I loved it when I lived in Aiea. I still love it as a civilian working nearby. The sushi plates are still as huge as ever. Quality, but quick sushi. Sorry, I'm at a loss of words, but Makoto Sushi is amazing. Calling Makoto to order is always pleasant as the Korean uncle always sounds sweet. Don't let the seemingly confusing parking structure and that McDonald's drive thru stop you from grabbing sushi here! To locate Makoto Sushi, head to the second level of Aiea Shopping Center in Aiea Heights, the same parking level as McDonald's, Ice Garden, and Roast Duck Kitchen (another lunch I highly recommend!). If you turned too soon to the first level (Times Supermarket or Starbucks) or too late to the third level (Aiea Bowl, bb.q chicken, El Charro), you can always take the stairs or escalator. Makoto Sushi is a hole in the wall with no indoor seating and only a few tables outside, but you'll be promised a quality meal. Head to their website at makotosushiaiea.com and call in your order to minimize wait times!

I got this place from one of my coworkers, so I wanted to try it out. Seriously, amazing customer service/experience. We got there around lunch time and we ordered, it was a bit a wait but the owner got out and gave all the customers that were waiting outside patiently cold water bottles and even apologized for the wait... couple minutes later we got our food and boy oh boy they didn't disappoint! We ate all our food and left with fully tummy's and happy moods! I will surely tell my family about this location and will definitely coming back!!

Half eaten 911 Roll, I put my hand there to show how huge the rolls were!

Love this place! A regular spot for me and my family. A family run business with outdoor seating. Portions are always so generous and the service is so personal and friendly! Highly recommend this place!

Best bang for your buck sushi spot!!! We come here all the time almost every Friday for their take out and share rolls together. Come hungry Because the rolls are HUGE. Extra extra gold stars because they have never messed up a take out order not once! Maika'i makoto sushi!!!

I was able to call in on a Saturday afternoon and picked it up in about 15 minutes! You can already tell on the phone that the service is so polite and kind. The sushi was bomb af. We just split the Dragon Tears roll between the 2 of us and it was a pretty big portion. The sushi itself was sooooo tasty and paired perfectly with all the ginger and light salad. The dragon tears roll was filled with tons of imitation crab and the ahi on top was super fresh and tasty. This was such a treat. Highly recommend visiting this place!!
