Amazing bento. Perfect lunch. Butterfish was cooked to perfection. Tender and excellent flavor. Excited to pick up this bento again next time I'm in the area and try all their others!

I thought I Reviewed Mamaya before I guess not . I came here before although it's been awhile. Looking for fast grab and go Japanese style bento this is the spot. Service is fast and efficient there was one cashier although she had 2 registered going at once . Plus when a particular item was out they came and restocked the item very quickly . Lots to choose from Salmon , Karaage chicken, hamburger steak , Teri chicken, Teri beef , Oyako Donburi, shrimp tempura and various of Musubi . I'll be back in the near future. Support local

    Salmon dynamite bento

A chain restaurant is not a small business. I pull no punches. Shrinkflation, reduction in quality, and a lack of care how food is cooked; time for this small chain of bento restaurants to close. Disappointing and becoming progressively worse. Examples: -- Salmon dynimite - a tiny, maybe 2oz piece of salmon completely surrounded by surimi mixed with a watered down kewpie mayo and siracha. -- Yakisoba - Starchy noodles seasoned with instant ramen powder topped with slimy, spoiling fishcake, thin slivers of tasteless egg, wet bean sprouts, etc. Extremely salty. Repulsive. -- "Zip Pac" - Oily, previously frozen, processed fish, fried chicken skin, boiled orts of teri beef and a pile of furikake in a corner of the bento. Even the Spam was rubbery. -- Oyako donburi - same price, half the portion (Half the rice, thin egg, three bite sized pieces of extremely overcooked, dry chicken). Still a non believer? Look at pics from a few years ago and now. Hard pass.

    Spicy Miso Chicken Bowl

I continue to purchase food for my mom every 3 weeks, as I rotate between 3 places to give my mom variety in cuisine. It's usually a butterfish or salmon bento and a green tea pudding, or an oyako donburi and tofu-eggplant bowl, or sushi. I usually pick up something for myself, this last time it was a spicy miso chicken bowl. Online ordering makes it a snap and they always have my order ready at the appointed time. The food is reasonably priced and tasty.

Firecracker Salmon, mixed bento, and mochiko chicken.

This place makes killer bentos. The firecracker salmon is the best, lots of everything on it. The mixed bento is better than a zip pac and cheaper. The mochiko not oily and tasty. Parking is plenty but small stalls. The staff is awesome. Aloha

I love this spot! Love their spicy inari bombs, spam musubi and pretty much everything here! This is the go to spot for bentos and grab and go food!

Truly love Mamaya Pearl Kai!!! We had to place a HUGE order for lunch and when I picked it up they were already packed well PLUS each came with bottle water PLUS they helped me load it all up PLUS they were kind and courteous AND I earned 4 more dinners with their stamp card rewards. Mamaya has very good bentos ranging from Ono pork belly bowls, mochiko chicken, a variety of salads, a mix plate bento that has beef, chicken and fish (cheaper than the other "Z" place), and you name it! [[HIGHLIGHT]]I love that the ambiance is pick up and go and well organized and so economical in their pricing.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] It's the perfect place for picking for lunch and dinner and even snacking on some poke inari, variety of musubi and endless sushi. It's definitely a locals spot if you are Ono for some local Japanese food and more! I'll be back!

We popped in at lunch and amazed to see hot bentos arrived and served fresh. [[HIGHLIGHT]]There are no tables and chairs for patrons. Select, pay and go! Get your stamp card.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Certain entrees comes with a free water bottle. Cashier didn't offer hashi or utensils. We overlooked it. Thank goodness we had extra hashi in the car. Everything in Salmon Dynamite Bento tasted yummy! Seasonings for salmon tasted a little spicy. Loved how the mochiko chicken, veggies, tamago, rice with furikake, and pickled ginger balanced the spiciness of salmon. Diverse meal. Great option for travel, beach, outings.

I like stopping by here at lunch to get a quick takeout bento. My favorites are the mini miso butterfish bento, Oyako Donburi and garlic chicken bento. They also have food to easily take on the airplane like musubis, spam musubis, small snack packs with fried chicken, spam musubi hot dog. They also have salmon, shoyu pork, loco moco, fried saimin, manapua, pork hash. Parking is easy at the Pearl Kai shopping center!

Mamaya now has a food truck in Waipahu, next to their distribution center Warabeya where they make their bentos. It's walking distance from where I live so it's really convenient to get lunch when we don't want fast food. We ordered the spicy ahi. They used sushi rice and the taste of the spicy ahi was good but they used the sinewy junk part of the ahi and it was difficult to chew. If they used a better cut of the ahi, I would definitely get it again but I'll stick to my salmon or butterfish bentos.

    Musubi
    Gail U.

Way faster than standing in line at an Okazuya as the items are ready for pick up and pay. Hubs likes to get poke bento and although they don't have the cafeteria style line I choose their calamari, gobo, cone sushi. If I really want nishime Ilook for a bento that includes it The potato salad is no longer available and that was good. My must have is their triangle shaped konbu musubi. ***However I think they changed the recipe cuz today's one had something like kidney beans in it and less konbu. Hope that was a fluke cuz it surely was not as tasty as before. Hubs always picks up regular sushi too.

They were very attentive and friendly even while the restaurant was busy. Staff made great recommendations and the food came out in a timely manner. The ambiance of the restaurant itself is so relaxing. We went before sunset and got to see the view during the day of the golf course and got to experience the night vibes as well. The menu has a lot to offer. Lots of categories with a variety of choices to cater to everyone's taste buds. Luckily went with a group of 5 so we got to try a bunch of different dishes. For appetizers- the tuna toast is a must! It's a perfect bite of poke with a nice crunch from the toast! I could eat 10 of these! The Brussel sprouts was also a favorite appetizer with its maple soy glaze and parm! If you don't like brussel sprouts- you might actually like this! lol The flavoring on the corn was great, but I wished it wasn't on the cob because it's messy to eat. The shrimp in the ebi katsu were huge, crunchy and not oily! The batter was a little thick but was proportionate to the shrimp size. The pork katsu was sooo delicious and tender. One of my favorite of the night. The wafu steak was also good - a little bit well done but the flavors were there. The miso black cod was also my favorite - soft and buttery with great flavor. The carrot puree under the cod was also surprisingly delicious and light. For dessert- the sweet potato crème brûlée is the popular dessert and it was pretty good. Not my favorite but good to try. I wonder if Okinawan sweet potato would be a better dessert the shave ice was a huge portion and the 5 of us almost didn't finish it ! The staff did give my parents a special treat for the celebration- it was like a yuzu custard with a crumble on top. THAT WAS BOMB, easily everyone's favorite dessert of the night! We inquired if that was going to be on the menu once day. And maybe it might Overall, a great restaurant with many delicious and flavor options! Great views and amazing staff. Would come again! Wish they had a location in town!

I've been wanting to try this place for a while but it is SOOO FAR! Finally made it out today and…read moregot to try a slew of their offerings. First, we got the Brussels Sprouts and Truffle Fries. Both were cooked perfectly, which is pretty much the trend of the night. The fries didn't really taste like truffle but they were thin and crispy, which is how we like them. The Brussels Sprouts were really good though, with the maple soy glaze. It was very well-balanced with the flavors and the sauce permeated throughout each bite. I got the Sushi omakase which came with a tuna carpaccio with Calamansi, and that was really good too, very refreshing. Then I got the 9 premium sushi they had for the day, a spicy tuna, and a spicy shrimp hand roll. They were all good, they taste how they're supposed to at their peak quality, and the nigiri were the right size and had a good fish to rice ratio. The hand rolls could've been better. But nothing really stood out. They were all okay. The nori was soft instead of crisp, and I didn't really get any spice. Needless to say, I was still hungry after that. Thankfully we also ordered the pork katsu, the scallops, and the Wafu steak. I didn't get to try the katsu but it was made crispy and my kids liked it enough. The scallop dish had a really yummy sauce, although, I didn't taste much truffle, kind of like the fries. The real standout for that dish was the sautéed Kale. It was delicious! The scallops were cooked really well and the dish was light overall. The Wafu steak came in a sizzling plate but had veggies right under it so it remained a perfect medium rare. Again, those veggies, they were so good, I couldn't get enough. The steak was good too, sweet and buttery, tender, and well balanced, how a proper Wafu steak should be. Overall, the food is good. The vegetables proved to be the most memorable and most delicious. Everything was cooked really well. However, it stopped there. Everything was technically "perfect" but there wasn't really anything I would be dreaming about or craving. I can't fault any of the dishes, not really, but I am not driven to rave about any of them either. I enjoyed the meal overall but it most definitely isn't worth another drive from town for us. I also had a couple of cocktails, which were okay. The Kakigori (we got strawberry and lilikoi) was sweet, refreshing, and a great palate cleanser. All tasty but pretty basic. The atmosphere was much more casual than I envisioned it to be which isn't a bad thing. Service-wise, there was one really eager busy bee server (kudos to him) and others that floated by occasionally to bring a dish or clear plates. Not sure what I was expecting, but maybe since it claimed to be a Michelin Star-type establishment, I guess I figured I shouldn't have to flag the server down every time I needed water. Overall, it was good. For someone from town? I'd likely not go back unless they open a closer location.

I had the tonkatsu curry, and as a big curry fan, it's good. Tonkatsu wasn't too oily, meat was juicy, and the curry taste was taste-in. I've also had the poke nachos, shrimp/vegetable tempura, and various bento dishes--always at least solid. Finally, appreciate the servers. Depending on when you go, it can get busy, but we've never had to wait too long for food and waters get refiled/plates get cleared. The underneath parking can get tight as well. Will definitely be back because all other dishes we had were great and service was attentive and efficient! Original review: Service and staff were stellar. But the chicken katsu was one of the worst I've ever had on O'ahu. The chicken katsu was greasy and soaked in old oil that tasted rancid and oxidized, which made the panko a disappointingly saturated mess. The panko was way too browned, and neither flaky or freshly crunchy like katsu should truly be, and was a far cry from the photo in the menu. The poor, fatty chicken quality and the rubbery skin left on the chicken pieces just added to the gristly and chewy nature of the katsu. Charging customers these prices for this kind of subpar quality chicken is absolutely insulting, and we couldn't even finish the dish. It's such a disappointment to write this kind of review, but others need to know what they're getting when they order katsu at Gyotaku.

I liked the rice too, the perfect kind to soak up the curry and pair with the katsu. The Katsu Kushi was fun to eat as it had a good amount of variety. I enjoyed the mochi quite a lot, the beef was a bit tough to eat, and I would note that the soft shell crab was extremely fishy. Like INEDIBLE fishy.
