Large Bento (plain musibi, maki sushi, oishi sush, cone sushi, tofu patty, hot dog, shrimp, luncheon meat, & 3 pieces of fried chicken)
    Sharon M.

I loved coming here as a child and would come here often growing up even as an adult. This was the place to go for a quick bento pick-up. There are no tables for sitting inside. It's a small shop with bentos on the shelf and some additonal items for sale. It's basically the items in the bento which you can buy separately and they have regular musubis and chicken musubis as well. I remember the prices were $5 for a small bento and $6.25 for a large bento. Of course prices went up as the years passed which is understandable. The bentos are $11 for a small bento and $13 for a large bento. I was a bit disappointed as the chicken was really tough to eat and there was not much flavor like in remembered in the past Everything still tasted the same which I was glad. There are several stalls in the front for parking. It's good to go as early as possible because they do run out of bentos. I hope the chicken gets better and stays consistent as I and I'm sure others have enjoyed it in the past.

K is truly missed, but her family is doing a great job of maintaining her legacy. Affordable Bentos with quality food. My favorite is still that Tofu that looks like an omelette but it's really a Tofu perfectly prepared and flavorful. Gotta shout out their chicken. Huge chunks of deep fried chicken sauced with their special sauce. Wonderful. Don't forget about their sushi, the Maki stands out from the rest (truly a great classic dish). A long time favorite especially when it's football season. No dining room, take out only. Call ahead if making a large purchase. Prepaid is preferred.

Still our favorite place for bento's. The chicken sushi is something special. It's made with their special chicken, rolled in sushi rice with mayo... yes mayo. The combination of it all is just a flavor bomb in your mouth. Go early if you want to grab this cause it sells out fast.

Slightly different from the last time over 5 yrs ago... I had to have my car serviced at the nearby Servco, so I decided to stop by here to get a small bento for brunch. The last time I had it was 5+ years ago ...and it was really good back then, so why not get one now if I'm already in the area? Price has increased to $10 for the small bento, but it still has the 3 pcs fried chicken, musubi, 1 piece Maki sushi, another piece sushi, 1/2 hot dog, and egg. Somehow, the chicken skin isn't as crispy as I remember, even though I picked this bento up relatively early at 730 am ish. Not as much of the garlic/Korean sauce too, so it wasn't as flavorful as I remember it. So it is *okay* for the price. A bit step down in taste (but sushi was fine). Nevertheless, it is still nice to see these small family establishments continuing!

I haven't been here in years and I remember the food being pretty good. However, it was my Husband's first time here and it'll most likely be his last time. It's in a very sketchy area and have a small parking lot. We walk in and it really is a whole in the wall. They had their betos stacked with large and small bentos. They also had their sushi near the register. My Husband and I each grab a small bento. We took it home to eat and a couple bites into his food, I notice he suddenly stops eating and I ask him why. He tells me he found a bug lodged in his chicken. So I lose my appetite ad well and tossed our food. Mine seemed fine but the chicken was hard, taste was ok, and I don't really like cold food so even if my Husband wouldn't have found that bug, I would've eaten the same amount. Overall, this place was less than mediocre and won't be back. Inspect your food before eating. Just saying.

Old school, as in decades old turning out two menu items: 1. Small Bento - $9 (1 hand formed unseasoned musubi, 1 piece maki sushi with seasoned tuna and dried shrimp, 1 plain sushi, 1/3 boiled hotdog, seasoned tofu, and 3 boneless pieces of sweet chili pepper chicken thigh). The seasoning for the sushi rice is very light, not vinegar and slightly sweet. 2. Large Bento $11 (Add an well seasoned inari sushi, slice of luncheon meat and boiled shrimp). Items have changed over the years and there was a momentary dip in quality when the matriarch passed and the next generation found its footing but it's back. Warning: All the food is premade and is at room temp. If it bothers you, it's called a microwave. Will you like it? That depends. When it comes to old school okazuya flavors, what you grew up with is what you think is good. This is the food I grew up with. Fourth generation Japanese American whose family originally immigrated from Fukushima and raised subsequent generations around the Waipahu plantation that was largely Japanese. Sugar, light soy, ginger, sake. Sweet and light flavors. To me, good eats.

Hole in the wall bento shop in Waipahu. About 4 parking stalls out front. Very mom & pop style with sweet service. $10 bento includes 2-3 pieces of chicken, a pice of maki sushi, 2 other pieces of Sushi rice & a third of a hot dog. Musubi is $2.50.

I used to like to come to this mom and pop place for their bento's. It was really reasonable and the chicken was so tasty. I haven't been here for a long time because they started overcooking their chicken and it hardly had any taste. Today, since we were in Waipahu, we decided to give them another try. The price went up recently to $10 for the small bento and $13 for the large. The chicken wasn't overcooked but again, not enough sauce so no garlic/shoyu taste...didn't care for it. I enjoyed the musubi and the 2 sushi's more than the chicken, hotdog and tofu...so sad. They used to have a small piece of corn beef hash included in the bento but not anymore. That hash used to have more potato with a little corn beef but I still liked it...again, so sad. FYI: They only accept CASH. Only a few parking stalls in front of their place but it opens up pretty fast.

I recently had a friend visit from Hawaii and he brought my husband and I a bento from K's Bento Ya. It was delicious! I don't get home sick often but eating this bento made me miss local food back home.

K's Bento- Ya has been in business for years!!! Just a small hole in the wall right across Honolulu kitchen. This place is only take out. Once they finish assembling bentos they are stacked on shelves. They have several types of bentos to choose from ranging from around $10.00 and up depending on which one you choose. Staff is old skool friendly and laid back. I always just get the one with fried chicken (chicken is more in the hard stringy side but delicious with a somewhat sweet seasoning) rice ball musubi / sushi .. hotdog and tofu roll... it makes a very cravable bento combination! K's Bento-Ya home of some yummy bentos

On my last visit, there was a lunch party going on and the space they were in was a bit odd. They had several long tables set up in what is normally the lobby/waiting area, right next to the restrooms. There was also another party going on the smaller party room behind the reception desk. I guess they just know how to make things work and try to configure seating the best they can! My latest two visits were pretty memorable with regards to the food. Both times were with tables for over 10 people and I must say, I'm surprised that both times, I was pleasantly surprised at the speed we received our food. I ordered the Bi Bim Bap and a plantation iced tea on my first recent visit, and Chirashi set with a Moscow mule on my second recent visit. The Bi Bim Bap was pretty good, and the plantation iced tea wasn't overly sweet like many can be because of the pineapple juice. The real winner was the Chirashi set. It had a lot going on and contained ingredients I don't usually get with other Chirashi bowls. It had unagi for one, and another surprise was a tiny portion of uni. We splurged on dessert on my latest visit with Brown Butter Cake, Creme Brulé, and Chocolate Molten Cake. Both came with a side scoop of vanilla ice cream. All were very good and little on the pricey side. The Brown Butter Cake and Chocolate Molten Cake were $17 each. Were they worth $17 each? I guess considering it's not every day I buy a $17 dessert, sure, it was worth it. My favorite of the three? The Brown Butter Cake! I'm looking forward to dining at Waikele Country Club Restaurant again and recommend it if you're looking for a local meal that's a little more upscale than the norm.
