T&L Fries

T&L fries were pretty good ... until we seen they used an old box from Raising Canes (they just blacked out the name)???? Hopefully they washed (but don't think it could be) the container && hopefully we don't get sick ??? I know recycling is good, but kinda ghetto no??

Updated menu.

So many different options to choose from. Friendly workers. Affordable pricing. So much yummy food.

Eat Local! The best-hidden gems in a city are usually the little places that are in random locations. A true definition of a hole in the wall. The food is simple, manapua truck style, and brought back many childhood memories of growing up in the area. The owners are nice and the food is reasonable. Not a place to sit down, just take out. Parking is a challenge, however plenty of street parking nearby.

I was in the Kalihi area and looked up a place to eat on google and found this place and I am glad I found it as it worked out perfect. I ordered a spicy chicken plate and it came with 8 wings and macaroni salad and two scoops of rice with some sliced up lettuce for $15. The spicy wings were so good with the rice. No other seasoning was needed. The macaroni salad was good also. Moreover, the couple working there were so nice and they just made everything better and the price was good also. This place is definitely a hidden gem.

Friendly workers. This place is a good place for a snack. The best thing here is the fried chicken and manapua. I think it's the closest thing flavor wise to Char hung sut filling. Idk how many they make a day but it doesn't seem like they make a lot. We got the last one on our way to do the manapua challenge. The pork hash is just meh. I haven't tried anything else here. It really is like manapua truck quality.

Garlic Chicken plate ($12.00). The plate comes with two scoops white rice, & mac salad.

So I guess you saw my attempt (last week) when I was attempting to get my Garlic Chicken fix @ K & K Kitchen but totally failed! What a difference a week makes, as today I was successful!!! Yay me! Lol! I had bookmarked this joint called - "T & L Market" in Kalihi, because after seeing the pics of da grindz from a few of my Yelp buddies, I told myself that I should check this place out one day. While doing some online training modules in my office, when lunch time rolled around, I told my coworker if he like check out T & L Market? I'd figure if I took my friend with me, if I could not find parking, I would have my friend drive my car around the block a few times while I ran inside to pick up some lunch time grindz for both of us. I guess the parking gods were lookin' out for me, because when I got to T & L Market, someone had just pull out of the parking lot, so I swooped into the parking space! SCORE!!! Upon walking into the joint, the menu is posted on the wall. There were several fixed plate lunch menu items, or if you want to make a custom plate for yourself, they had a lot of ala carte daily items (see my take out menu pic I posted). Don't want a plate lunch? I also noticed this business sold some bakery items (not sure if they make the pastries themselves, or if they catered it in), candy, & drinks. Although T & L Market is known for their noodles & fried chicken, I opted for the Garlic Chicken Plate because I didn't get my garlic chicken fix last week, and I was so craving for my garlic chicken. For $12.00 smackaz, I got two scoops white rice, a scoop of mac salad, & a whole bunch of boneless garlic chicken. My friend opted for the Mini Garlic Chicken Plate ($9.00) which was the same as my plate, minus a scoop of white rice, and maybe a little less garlic chicken. What can I say about the grub? The food here was pretty good, but not great. The Garlic Chicken marinade was different from what I would get from Sugoi's or K & K Kitchen. The garlic marinade was not as garlicky, or sweet, but some folks like it like that. As for me, I just LOVE Sugoi's garlic chicken marinade, so you probably know which I would prefer. Overall, the prices here are very reasonable, and for what you pay, and what you get, I must say it's DEALAGES Yo! The next time I come here, I will try their noodles & fried chicken, because after all, if you check out all the pics from this business, you'll see a lot of noodles & fried chicken pics! Lol!

Medium noodles, fried chicken and 2 pork hash

Craving manapua truck food? Here's a store front with manapua truck style grinds. Simple items and at reasonable prices. Flavors are ok, little garlicky on the noodles but better than other places I been that was bland and no garnish. Chicken wasn't bad and pork hash was ok but again for the prices wasn't bad for what you get. Very friendly and great service. Limited 2 stalls out front or street park on the side street.

Tiny market shop. A place to quickly grab-n-go place. Didn't think I'd find manapua here but after watching Food Fiend on youtube cover this place, it looked so ono! There's only 2 parking spaces right up front, so be careful trying to get there. Right outside they were cooking huli huli chicken! Every Saturdays! They have a special every day on a tiny board right by the cashier so don't forget to check it out! We got manapuas and pork hash! The manapua was what we expected; soft and bouncy bun with delicious chunks of pork inside! So ono. The pork hash was small and had lots of msg flavor. It was ok. I have to give one star though. First we had asked for 3 pork hash but found there was an extra pork hash thrown in (was not a freebie btw).... But then found out we were charged a little bit more than was told. Unfortunately there was no sign saying if they charge extra for credit card use, only that they accept credit cards with minimum $10 purchase. Bring cash when you come here.

Sean Y.

I grew up with the manapua man driving my neighborhood with his music slinging noodles, fried chicken, pork hash, and a ton of candy and sodas. Heard this place was the same and I could get the same food in plate lunch quantities...and I had to come here! Ordered a fried chicken plate, a couple fried noodle plates, some pork hash and we were off! Affordable and huge portions! Though I was not a fan of the overly sweet fried noodles and pork hash...the fried chicken had a good flavor though it was a little dry. Overall not a bad place, but not a destination location.

Great food for a great price definitely worth the stop! The workers were very welcoming I will definitely be coming back to get more lunch!

allegedly Huli Huli chicken that was never on a rotisserie $25. Turkey tail is added for the ridiculous price of $15. $40 loose money!!!

Their restaurant is so cool tho. Upon walking in, you sign in if needed, wait to be seated. As you walk in, there's a pretty decor, I would say photo opp, but there's a table and stuff blocking. They should clear that area, so people can take pictures with it lol but when you get seated, you walk through, and they take you to the back for outdoor seating. There is no indoor seating. They have the commercial tents, and pretty outdoor decor out there too, like lights and stuff. And there's a koi pond. Bathroom is back there. The only sucky part is if it was to rain hard or have strong winds, I wonder how they deal with that. But make sure you go when it's nice weather. It's BYOB!! They have a good amount of seating too. Our go to for Olay's is the Lao style papaya salad. We eat it with chicharon, and I think they have option to order a side chicharon, but we were prepared and went store before heading over to buy bag chicharon and they allowed it for us instead of spending the same amount for a handful, you get more when you BYOBC - bring your own bag chicharon lol I just made that up. If it's BYOB, I'm sure they'll allow it. We eat that with sticky rice. Omg so bomb. I like to get the stuffed chicken wings, we ordered the calamari. Was good. We got yellow chicken curry. The wife wanted to try the beef jerky, she likes it. We take the sticky rice and roll it in to a ball, and dip it in the bagooong papaya salad sauce and even the curry. Eat it with the papaya salad and stuffed chicken!! Omg so good! One thing I forgot to mention, they are located in the heart of Chinatown, on hotel street, so you gotta find parking. Street parking or pay for public parking. Would we come here again, definitely! 10/10 recommend. Check out Olay's for your Lao food fix!

The beef was tender, and the heat level was just right (spicy but still balanced). So good over rice. The chicken panang curry was rich, creamy, and comforting. The curry sauce had that slightly sweet, nutty depth with just the right amount of spice. The chicken was tender, and the sauce was honestly spoon-worthy. We also ordered the summer rolls, which were fresh and light -- packed with crisp veggies and herbs. Dipped in peanut sauce, they were the perfect refreshing starter before the richer dishes. And Peter was a great waiter -- friendly, attentive, and made sure we had everything we needed without hovering. Service definitely elevated the experience. Everything tasted fresh and well-executed. Great flavors, generous portions, and super satisfying overall. Definitely a place I'd come back to when I'm craving solid Thai comfort food.

This, however, will probably be my first and last visit. The place is cute enough, with a large back garden area where I chose to dine. Service was also great. I appreciate the little button at the table that I could click for service. The food, however, was mediocre at best. My friend and I ordered the pad Thai with tofu, ginger chicken, chicken satay, and pork larb. The pad Thai was the best dish, but it was very tomatoey, which I did not expect. The chicken with ginger had very little chicken. It was mostly julienned vegetables, including celery which I do not care for. The chicken satay was kinda dry and most certainly needed the peanut sauce to make it palatable. The larb was very dry with very bland flavor, served on one lettuce leaf and a wedge of cabbage. How am I supposed to eat that? All of it was quite disappointing, especially for the price point. As I was eating this meal I remembered the Thai food truck at the end of Ward, where Fisherman's Pier used to be. Now THAT was some good Thai food. I guess that was the best thing about this meal-remembering where I could get really good Thai food-so that the next time I'm having a craving, I can go back over there...I hope it's still there.

If we hadn't been paying attention and just tapped a tip option, we would've ended up overpaying. What's weird is that we had eaten here just a couple days earlier and everything was normal. The total matched, and we tipped on our own. No one added anything extra without asking. If this had been our first time, we probably would've assumed gratuity was automatically included and not thought twice about it. When we brought that up, the waitress suddenly acted like she didn't understand us, even though she had been communicating perfectly fine before. She walked away and got another staff member, who told us tipping is optional and then in a rude tone, asked, "So what do you want to do?" We still tipped in the end because we know service jobs aren't easy, but the whole situation just felt icky. Like how could you try to scam your own customers? Definitely left a bad impression, and it looks like others have had similar experiences if you look at the 1& 2 stars reviews. Makes me wonder how many people this has happened to without knowing.
