Update on Sugoi for lunch I called in a phone order 3x mini garlic chicken and 1x mini pork cutlet. Lucky I did because like always they're slamming busy . There were couple of people waiting outside the door to get in . I asked them if they were waiting to order and they replied yes . Whenever I go to Waikiki, I always make a stop at Sugoi for their mochiko chicken. Mochicko chicken can be somewhat hard to find because not all Hawaiian establishments offer it, but Sugoi makes it perfectly. For this trip I went on my way to the airport with initial plans to get some bentos to eat at the airport or on the plane. Unfortunately, when I went they ran out of mochiko chicken! I opted for the sesame chicken which is still good! It was my first time ordering their sesame chicken and it tasted very similar to the mochiko chicken which was a plus, though I could tell it wasn't the mochiko chicken I was craving for months. The bento is nice since it comes with a few other small items so you don't get sick of eating nonstop chicken and fortunately the container isn't overloaded with rice. Parking can be a bit tricky since there are other businesses in the area and the place can get busy around lunchtime so it is best to arrive early! My friends and I went there because a couple years ago, I went and ordered a garlic chicken plate and thought it was very good. My buddy ordered a garlic chicken bento and they gave us some garlic chicken, beef and hot dog. This time the chicken was pretty dry and not enough of the sweet sticky garlicky sauce. The beef was dry and very salty. The hot dog was pretty bad. Very disappointed that the quality of food went down hill. Will not be coming back nor recommend it to friends. Decided to try this place out for lunch on a Thursday. We did a pickup order. I ordered a mini plate with Spicy garlic Ahi tuna. It comes with white rice and mac salad. But you can upgrade the rice to noodles or fried rice for an extra charge. My fish came with a spicy sauce, and it was delicious! Not too spicy but perfectly spicy. It paired amazing with the Ahi. The Ahi was perfectly cooked too. I was shocked at how good it was. I heard great things about their chicken too, and I will have to try when I come back. Overall, I would return again. read more

Didn't realize chow fun had it's own plate and garlic chicken came in its own container. Lunch partner ordered the pork cutlet with mushroom gravy, rice and mac potato salad with some tuna in it. Pork cutlet was thinly sliced with slight crunchiness, gravy to dive for - delicious!! There are limited tables to sit and eat at. Parking get full fast so you may have to park in the large lot and walk in. Pros: Love the abundance of goodies in the look fun. Mixed feeling about Sugois. They are really good. Love getting mixed plates and trays whenever I need to get something for potluck or parties. Their garlic chicken or spicy garlic chicken is one of the best. Space is bigger inside which gives it a lot of seating. It does get very packed during lunch hour, so ordering ahead with phone pick up is always important! Service is the one thing that is a mixed bag. Sometimes I'm in and out fast when it comes to my phone orders. Sometimes when I go in their, it takes like half an our when I already waited that long to get there. I understand sometimes it gets busy, but the excuses or situations that it happened in were interesting. A couple times they just hadn't made it yet and it was taking longer than expected. Another couple, the order got lost for some reason. I think they updated their systems so that doesn't happen much anymore. One time made me mad when they legit made everything and I was waiting. Then the guy put it to side and did a bunch of other stuff. And I thought "hmmm, maybe that wasn't mine." About ten minutes later I asked another waiter if that's the one for me. They checked it and they said "do you know everything you ordered?" Reiterated all of it and they went, "yup, this is yours?" And just handed it off and went on. One of the guys at our office makes a run down to Sugoi's to pick up bentos for us every so often. As it was Tuesday, the large bento was on sale for $17.75 + tax. Three of us ordered the Korean Chicken bento while others ordered the salmon. My bento contained furikake rice, a split hot dog, a piece of BBQ meat and four or five large pieces of Fried Chicken and a slice of takuwan. I suspect they use pieces of Mochi Chicken or Garlic Chicken because I tried a piece before pouring on the sauce that was included. The sauce made it Korean (style chicken) and made the rice so tasty I had to eat all of it. It's a substantial meal. I ate half for lunch on Tuesday and the other half on Wednesday. For me, that came to less than $10/day, a deal in today's environment. Recommended! read more

Weird hours wish they closed later than 2 pm & Kind of pricey for a chicken plate BUT other than those two issues SOOO DAMN GOOD + SOO WORTH IT! A lot less sauce is given. The flavor of garlic isn't wild like how it used to be. I don't know if they changed their menu but I missed that. Lunch from Honolulu, Hawaii... My mom seems to prefer dining at home nowadays. I'm often searching for places with takeout and good food. I've heard of Sugoi's, and many of my friends have been there. I thought that I should try it for myself! Shared parking with popular restaurants such as Kamehameha Bakery, Young's Fish Market, and Pancakes & Waffles Kalihi can be challenging at peak hours. Fortunately, I arrived right before Sugoi's closed and parked right in the front! Service was efficient and polite. While I waited for my order, I walked around outside because it was a bit warm inside. Maybe the dining area in the next room has better air-conditioning? One of my favorite spots for a great garlic chickens. Today was more so a 3.5* as 1 of 3 chickens was over cooked and dry. Still their garlic chicken sauce packs a punch of garlic with just the right notes of sweetness. If you want to kick it up a knot h, go with the spicy version which packs a wallop of red chili flakes for heat. They also have an awesome fried rice, which you can upgrade on any plate for $2 per scoop. It's packed with hot dog and fish cake, and a small sprinkle of some added Portuguese sausage and chair siu. It's been quite some time since I've been here but we were really craving garlic chicken. I'm happy to report that it's still delicious and the portions of the regular plates are still huge. Huge enough that two food vacuums like us had two meals each out of our plates. We got a plate of Spicy garlic chicken with fried rice and a Mochiko chicken plate with white rice. One really good thing and one of the many reasons I enjoy having a plate lunch with Mark H is that he hates mac salad. Lucky for me Sugoi doesnt have tossed greens to sub for the mac so guess who benefits with a double portion of mac salad. :) Both chicken plates were as good as I remember and letting that garlic sauce soak into the rice...heaven! Sugoi means amazing in Japanese and while it may not be that, the food here is really good! I always felt the key to a good bento is to have your food taste good at room temperature. Not necessarily as good as just cooked but pretty close. The garlic chicken and beef teriyaki bento was delicious, even at room temperature. The garlic chicken still has some crispness to it and while it comes with a sauce, you don't need much of it for it to be flavorful. The beef teriyaki was also good; seasoning had the right amount of shoyu and sweetness. The rice was soft, not hard or dry and the little ume was a nice touch. I also tried some of the salmon bento. It was good but I feel salmon is a hard dish to get excited about in a bento. It has to be well cooked to last and at that point, it tends to be a little dry. Nevertheless, it was tasty. Just 'okay' and unfortunately not nearly as good as I remember from years ago. Stopped by Sugoi's last week since Kam Bakery was on my agenda for some office goods. First impression as I walked in was that it was really loud from the tv and fans, so I couldn't hear the guys talking when placing and grabbing my order. Note: There's 4 doors, but only 2 open. I wonder how many other people see Sugoi's signage and try to walk in thru the dining room side lol. Yes, I did smh. Walk into the restaurant thru the set of doors on the RIGHT. Trust me - hahaha!! Anyways, the spicy chicken plate was delicious. Regular garlic chicken was not so great. I had black pepper specks all over the bottle of my plate. It looked and tasted as if someone dropped the container of black pepper in the sauce and just kept on working. NOT GOOD and definitely wreaked of black pepper too. Big boo for me cuz I was SOOO looking forward to this meal. Also to note - I walked in at 10:50 thinking I timed it properly for my 11:30 lunch date (delivered to Fort Shafter). I assumed my 2 fried chicken plates would take roughly 10-15 mins to prepare, but they were both ready in LITERALLY about 2 mins. I really wished it was freshly made since it would be sitting for another bit of time as I traveled. Granted, the chicken was still crunchy, but it definitely was not hot. Mac salad was bland, but I'm not a big fan of that anyways, so next time I'd just order tossed salad. Definitely go for their spicy garlic chicken plate tho!! That thing is delicious. On our way to the airport, we wanted to order some food to take onto the plane. We came across Sugoi while we were in the plaza and decided to order two items. I ordered a mini garlic chicken plate which comes with rice and Mac salad. I was very surprised when the mini plate I ordered came out in a full size to go box. So much food for the mini plate. The chicken was crispy and flavorful. I ordered spicy so there was definitely a little bit of heat. The Mac salad was so delicious too! My husband got the mochiko chicken mini bento which comes with teriyaki beef, rice, and ume. The tray was packed full with a ton of rice underneath. Both were delicious and still crispy even when we ate them an hour later. We ordered mini versions, but the portions were huge and enough to feed us both for two meals. I highly recommend Sugoi if you're looking for a quick and and delicious and very reasonably price meal. read more
