    Shrimp tempura bento
    Gabriel P.

My wife and I saw a segment of Guy Hagi's Cheap Eats last night. We looked on Yelp and saw favorable reviews. When we approached the entrance we could see only a few bentos in the window. When we went in we saw more bentos but not a large selection. As we were waiting to pay, more bentos were brought out. Well I got the Salmon bento and my wife had the Shrimp Tempura bento. Overall the bentos were good. Prices were exceptionally good. Will be back soon. Enjoy

Went to U Kitchen and got a Salmon Bento there not bad price total including tax was about $9.50 it was a decent size bento for the price so no complaints there they looked quite busy with outside orders as they were packing up their van with Bentos. Parking is pretty decent there and they were pleasant. I would go back again next time i'm in the area.

Found this place looking for a quick lunch! The parking was pretty full but it was free and close by. It's take out only but there's big menu and even Togo menus available. I did not order ahead but thankfully there was only 1 person ahead of me. I ordered Mixed Fried Combo; chicken katsu, 2 piece shrimp tempura and croquette. It was done in about 8 min. I browsed around and saw they had plenty bentos and plates prepackaged - I'll keep that in mind in case I'm ever in a bind for time, although my meal was done quick! I was surprised how fresh everything tasted, it only took me about 10 min to get back to my work to eat, but the food was still crispy and not too soggy. The rice was perfectly cooked. I'd definitely return and recommend if you're in the area.

We saw this place the TV show cheap eats with Guy Hagi. Hawaii news now report. Located across the City Square market place where you share parking with Yohei Japanese restaurant and use to be subway. After doing business like banking etc. My husband said we go and see what they get. So I saw the shrimp tempura bento and my husband saw the salmon bento. It was good and very cheap. No dine in so only take out. Got there about 10am or so and the bentos where being stack up for the lunch crowd. Lol... was amazed that the prices were good. The taste of the bentos was good too. Will be back.

Breakfast was delicious. Food was all packed and ready to go. They have a variety of bentos to choose from. Closed on Sunday. Price was reasonable.

The owner was so friendly when we approached the business as she loaded the delivery van. Salmon Dynamite was sure held up to its name. This was so delicious. It was served to order and piping hot. Oh my gosh! I shared with my daughter and it was perfect for the two of us at 830 in the morning. We stopped by this after grabbing a snack at another business in the adjacent parking lot. The price and quality were outstanding. Check out that breakfast price, I didn't get a picture of my husband's Noribento which was only $5.99. You can't beat that anywhere for the price and amount of food.

There has been a buzz in the Yelp community for YEARS about U Kitchen (UK), a Japanese restaurant that serves bentos, plate lunches, sandwiches and sandwiches. UK, located in Kokea Center, with popular neighbors of Yohei Sushi and Subway, UK is known for their balanced and healthy lunch options. They opened their doors for business in Aug 2021 offering economical and balanced Japanese lunch boxes. Many Yeeps rave over their Nori Bento, which has deep fried fish filet, fried curried chikuwa, potato croquette, mochiko chicken, house green salad, macaroni salad, Japanese seaweed, Japanese pickles and rice. All of this food for &5.99. Here's the catch: this special is only offered between 8am to 11am. Lucky me for having a sister who works graveyard shifts and picked me up the Nori Bento one day and dropped it off at my office for me. I was impressed with the presentation and volume of food for that price. After taking a photo, it was time to dig in. As recommended in Jo Y.'s review, I reheated the deep fried items in the toaster oven to liven up my bento. Indeed deep fried foods taste better when eaten hot and the exterior texture crisped up. I also reheated the rice after removing the greens and macaroni salad and indeed, it was a good meal with a generous portion as I couldn't finish it in one sitting. So why only 4 stars? Most of the bento components were commercialized, premade items and deep fried. Would have been nice with components of braised, stewed, pickled and/or steamed (i.e. nikujaga, nishime, namasu). The bottom line: you cannot go wrong with the Nori Bento for $5.99. Great volume and decent food.

I am always looking out for cheap lunches because, as a senior citizen, I am not comfortable at paying $20 plus for lunches. Maybe I should start getting used to the idea because the economy looks real gloomy for the future. I caught Cheap Eats on the news one night and they were featuring U Kitchen, so I am always game for some cheap lunches and made a point to go there. It was about 11:00 on a Friday and they were busy packing deliveries. The shelves were less than half full of bentos. I ordered off the menu instead of choosing a ready made bento. I ordered a hamburger steak plate for just $12.95. I took it home for lunch. You get two medium sized beef patties, a smidgen of Mac salad and a little bit of tossed salad, The hamburger steak was actually pretty good, nice texture to it and moist. There was no gravy but more of a tomato Demi-glace sauce that was actually pretty good. There were tons of rice which I ate less than half of. The Mac salad was just OK but they give you so little of it. I would have preferred some canned vegetables to go along with the hamburger steak instead of the tossed salad but that is just me. Overall, I liked U Kitchen and I know I will return for some other menu items.

A little hard getting here with all of the work being done on Dillingham. Was able to find parking easily so that's a plus. Had to wait around 15 minutes for my sukiyaki bento while waiting outside the store. Bento itself was very good. Wish they had an option of paying more to get the broth as well. I was missing the sukiyaki from shirokiya village and this was enough to satisfy the craving.

It was his dream to open his own authentic Japanese restaurant using his special omakase experience from Japan and one of the first authentic sushi restaurants in Honolulu. It was a concept of "bringing Japan's finest to Hawaii" with a desire to "build a bridge between the two cultures of Japan and Hawaii." In 2018, operations were taken over by Testsuya Matsuda. A 2nd location was opened in Kahala in Jan 2024 by Hiroshima Mazda, whose specialty is traditional Japanese sushi (or omakase). Yohei Sushi 's menu offerings include: * Teishoku (or set meal). Comes with miso soup, rice, Japanese pickles, cold soba noodles, seasonal side dish. Main entrees are sashimi, tempura, maguro, misoyaki butterfish, ahi steak, saba. Salmon, ahi belly, katsu, and more. * Sushi Bar. With miso soup. Menu offerings are deluxe & standard assorted sushi, maguro don, Chirashi sushi. * Noodles. Choice of udon or soba with various combinations, e.g., nabeyaki, tempura, tororo, tanuki, zaru, kitsune, tori, tukimi, kake, and ojiya udon. Also, combo meals of tendon/noodle, sushi/noodle; and donburi of unaju, oyako don and ten-ju. * Side order & ala carte. Includes sashimi, chawanmushi, ika, shinkomori, murokyu, soft shell crab, miuzuku, Hiyahakko, edamame, tempura. Ahi belly katsu, misoyaki butterfish, saba, seafood tempura, maguro temprta, ahi steak, salmon. We've had the following: * Tendon and Noodle. Deep fried tempura of shrimp and assorted veggies in a rice bowl with sauce & hot udon. Very filling and tasty! * Tempura Teishoku. This teishoku had 3 large pieces of fried tempura shrimp and assorted veggies, e.g., carrot, eggplant, green beans, pumpkin, that were light and non-oily. Our teishoku meals came with pickled veggies, cold soba, rice, and miso soup with lots of wakame and radish sprouts. Very flavorful! They also offered a complimentary birthday scoop of ice cream with a dollop of an as a topping, which was refreshing and paired well! * Maguro Tempura Teishoku. Hubby's choice of fried tempura tuna set, and he noted that there were 8 large tender pieces of maguro that was lightly fried and non-oily. Very delicious and filling! * Unagi nigiri. The unagi was so flaky, tender, and light and had the right amount of sauce. Loved it! The presentation of the meals was beautifully plated with real, authentic Japanese small dish bowls and plates. The food was of good quality and very flavorful! Customer service was excellent! Diners are greeted by staff upon entering and thanked when leaving. The old-time servers were very patient, attentive, welcoming, and gracious! Our food orders came out in a timely manner, and the servers, with smiles, frequently asked if everything was okay and if we needed anything else. Hours of operation are: lunch daily from 11a to 2p, dinner from 5p to 9p, closed Wed. Happy hour is from Thurs to Tues from 1:30p to 5p. Located in Kokea Center that looks like a run-down strip mall at Dillingham Blvd and Kokea St, the restaurant interior has a great ambiance as if you were dining in Japan, as it is comfortable and welcoming. It was amazing to see almost every table was taken by dining customers. Reservations are a must, as people are turned away. Good thing I called for lunch reservations at 12:15p on a weekday, which was tha last table available. And the restaurant was packed the entire time that we were there! Free parking in the private lot shared by other businesses, as well as metered street parking. My friend & I were greeted right away upon entering the restaurant, and directed to sit into a vinyl seated booth/table. Yagura's menu is simple, offering an array of Teishoku meals. I ended up getting the BBQ Chicken Teishoku meal which included a salad, miso soup, white rice, & tsukemono. My friend - Gary T. ended up getting a combination plate of BBQ Chicken & Shrimp Tempura. What can I say about da grub? Simply O.U.T.S.T.A.N.D.I.N.G!!! My BBQ Chicken came out on a hot sizzling platter, & underneath the BBQ Chicken there was grilled onions. Yum! The chicken skin was crispy, and the sauce was deeeeeeeeeeeeeeeelicious! Nicely executed! This place is definitely a throwback. You can feel that vibe once you walk through the doors. Quickly got seated and served water and tea (which I really appreciated). Some places don't offer it or don't even have it. The menu is quite extensive. I settled on the Teishoku with Sashimi, salmon and teri beef. They brought out the miso soup (not the kind out of a tube) and the rice before the meal arrived. I was pleasantly surprised at the size of the salmon, most places that I go to it's pretty small. I could only eat half of it. The portions sizes for all the dishes were good. I actually had to take home some of the teri beef too. Kind of bummed that I hadn't been to this place 20 years ago. I guess like they say, better late than never. I will be back.

Sushi counter has 8 seats and there are some additional tables. Hiro is planning to do some pretty cool things with the space-- so fun! FOOD: Amazing. The first course included saba, which Hiro prepared exceptionally well. The other components of the first dish were tasty too. For the nigiri, our favorites were the chutoro and otoro (unsurprisingly). There was also salmon nigiri with pesto which was unique, but not our favorite. We noticed that Hiro adds additional flavoring components to good quality fish/seafood.. the flavors all complemented each other well, without overpowering the fish. SERVICE: Good. Hiro was chef, waiter, dishwasher, everything (he said he does this on certain nights when it's slower). He juggled all the duties well. The courses were presented at a nice pace and our waters were filled regularly. OVERALL: Wonderful experience. We appreciated Hiro's personalization and flair. It was also fun talking story with him! Plus, BYOB! He said he plans to keep the omakase area BYOB too. We definitely plan to return.

The space is decorated with interesting art that changes in the light. Portraits of Hiro adorn the walls. I love it. There's a huge tv that looks like a painting. The omakase journey was spectacular and the two things I really liked about it were: 1) the yuzu kosho pairings, 2) the black sesame tamago. Everything else was great but those two things really stuck with me. The entire course was peppered with flavor medleys that were new to me. Overall, I had a great time with a special someone and we'll definitely be back for more!

Glad we had a reservation (even though we went for an early lunch). The place hasn't changed, the decor is the same What was nice was that there were a lot of wait help so service, even when it was busy, was attentive. Food was plentiful. Previously I had ordered the teishoku tempura but next time I'll order the tempura and side of rice. My sister did this and she had such a large serving of various tempura. I think there was four shrimp tempura (the teishoku didn't have as much. Most of the time I've been here the parking was available. But because there are so many other restaurants and stores the parking lot was usually pretty full but perhaps because we were lucky or early there were many spaces. I keep telling myself I need to order bitter melon. But I never do. Maybe next time
