We got smoked out and it got bad to the point where my eyes were getting watery. Not sure if this happens all the time at this spot- this was my first time. The service was okay. We waited over 10 minutes to get cups of water and to put in our order. I totally get that they were short handed which also explains why it took almost 40 minutes for us to be served. Ordered the Negi-Hamachi to try something different. Hamachi is my favorite fish served sashimi style so I decided to switch it up and order the Negi-Hamachi which is finely chopped, yellow-tail with green onion and wasabi over sushi rice served with tsukemono and miso soup. My grandson did enjoy his sushi, which was made to order and he said the fish was fresh. I had the Miso Butterfish & Tempura Teishoku. I found the Tempura good, but the tempura sauce too salty. The miso butterfish was excellent. My daughter and son-in-law enjoyed what they ordered. IMO the food is good but not outstanding. Portions are generous. I only heard good things about Tadashi..Well had to see for myself. Tadashi is located in "Pearl Kai" across kam hwy from the old Sears. The parking can be challenging in the evenings. Alot of eateries, stores and a gym all using the same parking. Tadashi is located deeper into the mall closer to the gym and a 4 or 5 store fronts from baskin & robins towards the ocean. Their storefront is very low key. All the outside windows are obscured with posters..menus and other announcements. Entry is a small unassuming door leading to a sonewhat small airconditioned dining area with a bar (no alcohol but can bring your own with corkage fee) area to the right. The wooden tables and chairs are well spaced out and doesnt feel cluttered. The staff is pleasant and dilligent in their duties. Our order didnt take long. The menu is your typical japanese restaurant fare (I guess not too familiar) Tonkatsu..butter fish..sukiyaki..soup...noodles..not sure if they had steak or salmon because we were told it wasnt available...not sure if they ran out or discontinued? The food was good quality ..portions was good and pretty much manageable (japanese food is always on higher end of price spectrum) Everything was spot on! Tadashi is located at the Pearl Kai shopping center off of Kamehameha highway across from Pearlridge. I ordered the miso butterfish with shrimp tempura Teishoku and it was so delicious! This place makes the best butterfish on the island, a huge generous portion of ordering the miso butterfish teishoku The fish tastes so fresh and so good. Hot green tea is complimentary. We ordered the Butterfish tempura teishoku with some salmon, ikura and hamachi nigiri. Also ordered a Chuu-toro tekka. We haven't been here in over one year and sadly the quality of sushi has gone way downhill. Found a bone in the Chuu-toro tekka so our server let the kitchen know and sent it back. Next, the ikura was not fresh so our server returned it. Salmon smelt fishy too. Hamachi was just ok. Rice was not prepared well either... no flavor and texture was quite hard. They did stress on the 90 minute dining which already made us feel rushed. There were lot's of staff ready for the reservation guest. I haven't been here for awhile but I got to say the quality of food wasn't the same. We had a variety of nigiri and the rice just didn't measure up. It was a little hard with no taste. The Ikura was a little mushy and not fresh. Chuu-toro Tekka had a big bone in a little roll. We did return those items and they took it off the bill. The salmon nigiri had a fishy smell but it was just okay. On the otherhand, the butterfish was excellent. It was tasty and flavorful. ($36.95) It came with a lot of food (miso soup, small soba) and the butterfish may have been the best I've ever had. Hubby had the katsu and it was thick and fried perfectly. We were seated right away, without a reservation, and the food flew out the kitchen. All of our wishes came true haha! There was a decent flow of diners for Saturday lunch; perfect for the size of the restaurant. We always enjoy the classic love songs that play in the background while devouring our picks from the menu. I regularly have a hard time choosing, as the menu is quite plentiful, but I spontaneously settled on the Shokado Bento which has a bunch of my faves. The bento includes: miso butterfish, shrimp and veggie temp, chef's choice sashimi, teri chicken, and even 4pcs of their salmon avocado maki. It's the perfect variety, in my opinion, if you're like me and can't decide on what to order. My wife always goes for the uni - that's a must - and different selections of fresh fish. Our waiter recommended the Hot Hawaiian Roll. It had large chunks of fresh ahi inside. The most popular roll is the Hawaii Five-0 Roll. There is fresh hamachi, salmon, and ahi on top. The Shokado Special had high quality salmon and ahi sashimi. The teriyaki chicken was tough and dry. There was a piece of plastic in my first bite of the Hot Hawaiian. Everything was great. Haven't been here in 4 years. I'm glad to see that the food is still excellent. Also very happy to see Curtis and the crew. Just a little change but sometimes change is good. They have created more space with less tables to accommodate their shortage of staff. That's totally understandable. They also have a 90 minute time limit which is also totally understandable. If you increase efficiency you can serve a decent amount of people while maximizing your time. It's pretty much down to a science. Very creative even though it comes off a little rude but if you truly appreciate Tadashis and their crew, this is just something they have to do to survive and be competitive in today's economy. We chose Tadashi based on the good reviews and central location between my home and my Auntie's work. One thing I know I'll miss about Hawaii is local-style Butterfish. So of course I had to order the Butterfish Misoyaki Teishoku. The butterfish set came with rice, miso soup, tsukemono, soba, and hijiki! The butterfish was buttery and delicate. Though the miso glaze was a little too sweet for my liking. The tsukemono and hijiki were nice sides and I appreciated the cold and satisfying soba. The miso soup was a little salty for me. Regardless, all of that made the price well worth it as portions were enough to satisfy. My Auntie got the New York Steak and Tempura Teishoku while my Mom got the Una-jyu. She enjoyed it and it tasted soft and moist, the unagi and the sauce were sweet. We also got a couple of rolls to share which were okay but not the best quality I've had. We made reservations in advance for our meal. I recommend calling ahead as they book up quickly and only allow a 90-minute dine-in limit. The restaurant is spacious and laid back with tables for large and small parties (they were also playing 2000's hits my jam). Our waitress was super friendly, helpful, and accommodating. She kept apologizing that they were understaffed and food would take awhile but it was the complete opposite! Everything came out hot, fresh, and ready and we appreciated our water cups constantly being refilled. You can find Tadashi tucked away in the Pearl Kai Shopping Center. Sunday November 17, 2024. I decided to try Tadashi as we wanted to try someplace new to us. But, while waiting inside the front door. I noticed Brandon a friend from a long time ago behind the sushi counter. We went to see him and say, Hi. Then we was seated after that. The lady waitress was very friendly and sorry we didn't get her name. We ordered and our food came shortly after. The salad was different and really good. The miso soup was hot and the side dishes were good. Our food came right after that. The Shokado Bento I thought was a good choice to get as it had a little of everything to try for the first time there. It was too much food for me as the eyes were bigger than the stomach at the time of ordering my food. That's okay, I enjoyed everything. The lady asked, if we wanted dessert. Sorry, to say that was a no this time as we were so full. Next time, we will save room for dessert. We will be back for sure! Place was bright, nice and clean with the tables spread out nicely and not close together. Food had plenty good food choices to choose from which makes it hard decide as to what to get. Of all the dishes we had, the best were the Hamachi Kama and butterfish. Hamachi kama was pretty big--they gave both sides of the collar and a little extra, which was a pleasant surprise and the butterfish was one of the best I've had, perfectly cooked and flavorful with no bones. Went there for lunch on Wednesday at around 12:00pm. As soon as you open the door, there is a sign that says 'reservations required for lunch'. I was thinking we wouldn't be able to eat there since we didn't know a reservation was required. The lady who greeted us said for us to make a reservation next time, but she could serve us today. She also said she is the only server today. We sat down at a table and the place is really spaced out. Only about 6 other tables are available and we're taken and they have stacks and stacks of tables and chairs toward the back of the restaurant. The service was pretty quick. The menus, waters, and our food came out reasonably quick. Just a warning that the hot tea is not free, they charge $1.
