Yakiniku - "grilled meat", literal translation. You pick your meats, light up that grill and roast your selections. This dining experience in a hole-in-the-wall restaurant tucked away in residential Japan was the ultimate immersion and best way to kick off my first time visiting JAPAN! Delicious, wonderful restaurant run by very friendly people! It was a neat experience, and the wagyu was prepared perfectly with a great blend of seasonings. The BiBamBap was excellent, and adding in some spicy kimchi tied everything together. Highly recommend!
Good service with great food. Although I did not order, but I wish I did their sashimi looked fresh and yummy. With no disappointment, I ate the tonkatsu and tempura teishoku. The meal comes with miso soup, soba noodles, and pickled vegetables. BYOB as you please.
I recently had dinner here. My daughter and family live in Aiea and we were looking for a restaurant that was convenient for me to meet them at. My grandson also wanted to have fresh sushi. Yelp reviews were good, so I made a reservation. [[HIGHLIGHT]]This is a family run business that serves Japanese food in a friendly welcoming vibe.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Service is very attentive. The food is on the pricey side. My grandson did enjoy his sushi, which was made to order and he said the fish was fresh. I had the Miso Butterfish & Tempura Teishoku. I found the Tempura good, but the tempura sauce too salty. The miso butterfish was excellent. My daughter and son-in-law enjoyed what they ordered. IMO the food is good but not outstanding. Portions are generous. Unfortunately, they no longer have a liquor license and charge a corkage fee. They even charge for hot tea. Tadashi is a good option for Japanese food in the Aiea/Pearlridge area. Support local family business.
I only heard good things about Tadashi..Well had to see for myself. Tadashi is located in "Pearl Kai" across kam hwy from the old Sears. The parking can be challenging in the evenings. Alot of eateries, stores and a gym all using the same parking. Tadashi is located deeper into the mall closer to the gym and a 4 or 5 store fronts from baskin & robins towards the ocean. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Their storefront is very low key. All the outside windows are obscured with posters..menus and other announcements[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]. Entry is a small unassuming door leading to a sonewhat small airconditioned dining area with a bar (no alcohol but can bring your own with corkage fee) area to the right. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The wooden tables and chairs are well spaced out and doesnt feel cluttered.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The staff is pleasant and dilligent in their duties. Our order didnt take long. The menu is your typical japanese restaurant fare (I guess not too familiar) Tonkatsu..butter fish..sukiyaki..soup...noodles..not sure if they had steak or salmon because we were told it wasnt available...not sure if they ran out or discontinued? The food was good quality ..portions was good and pretty much manageable (japanese food is always on higher end of price spectrum) [[HIGHLIGHT]]Everything was spot on! Service was quick and pleasant..food was quality and tasty ..restaurant seemed very clean[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] but I gotta mention the mens bathroom. It was in house and seemed to be very clean and maintained but (pic) the floor in front of the urinal looked like something out of a horor movie...It was all nasty and cracked and it seemed there was a toilet there at one time....I can just imagine something coming out of the ground while you doing your business lol... they should have covered it up because that was a bit creepy!! Anyways definetely worth it to check out..just avoid the mens bathroom
Tried Tadashi for the first time & it was amazing! The portions were good for price. Their miso butterfish is bigger than most places, very sweet & rich in flavor. Love their pickled veggie sides and miso soup. Babe enjoyed his hamachi bowl. Service was great. Everyone was friendly and on top of it! [[HIGHLIGHT]]Ambiance is relaxing. Came here on a Thursday night for my friend's birthday. [[HIGHLIGHT]]There was a lot of parking and not too crowded.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Tadashi is located at the Pearl Kai shopping center off of Kamehameha highway across from Pearlridge. I ordered the miso butterfish with shrimp tempura Teishoku and it was so delicious! I forgot to take a photo of my food since it looked so good i couldn't wait to dive in. This place makes the best butterfish on the island, a huge generous portion of ordering the miso butterfish teishoku The fish tastes so fresh and so good. Hot green tea is complimentary. My friend got the Shokado bento which was a Chef Selection of Sashimi, Butterfish, Teriyaki Chicken, Tempura, Soybean and Salmon Avocado Rol!, that was $50 but well worth it. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Service was friendly and quick and great quiet place to talk story.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] If you want yummy Japanese food, this is the place to go to.

We were seated right away with no reservations and the host informed us of the 90 min time limit.... We noticed the staff was rushing around to get ready as they just opened 10 mins prior. We ordered the Butterfish tempura teishoku with some salmon, ikura and hamachi nigiri. Also ordered a Chuu-toro tekka. We haven't been here in over one year and sadly the quality of sushi has gone way downhill. Found a bone in the Chuu-toro tekka so our server let the kitchen know and sent it back. Next, the ikura was not fresh so our server returned it. Salmon smelt fishy too. Hamachi was just ok. Rice was not prepared well either... no flavor and texture was quite hard. Butterfish was decent, but overall experience was 1 star. Service was not up to par and the food reflected the staffs lack of motivation. Needs major improvement.
It's a Friday night and came in at 5:00pm right when they opened. Shared parking with other businesses was a little challenging. There were some open tables left, as we were seated. They did stress on the 90 minute dining which already made us feel rushed. There were lot's of staff ready for the reservation guest. I haven't been here for awhile but I got to say the quality of food wasn't the same. We had a variety of nigiri and the rice just didn't measure up. It was a little hard with no taste. The Ikura was a little mushy and not fresh. Chuu-toro Tekka had a big bone in a little roll. We did return those items and they took it off the bill. The salmon nigiri had a fishy smell but it was just okay. On the otherhand, the butterfish was excellent. It was tasty and flavorful. But at that point we kind of lost our appetite, so we just took it home. Probably, it was just an off beat night.
Tadashi in Pearl Kai is one of those traditional, Japanese hidden gems in Pearl City that truly deserves more attention. The teishoku sets are a classic order and a great deal whenever you go to a Japanese restaurant. The portions are generous and come out in a parade of flavor with the multitude of small dishes that lead to the main event. My husband was especially pleased to find natto don on the menu, and is happy he found someplace he can come back to. What made our visit even more special was discovering that one of our servers from Kabuki is now working at Tadashi. It was such a delightful surprise to see her again, making it feel like a full-circle moment. Every birthday in the family, we would celebrate at Kabuki. How has it taken us so long to come to Tadashi? Don't be surprised if this is a staple for my family in the future. If you haven't been yet, make sure to check it out--you won't be disappointed!
Tadashi has the best miso butterfish on the island! Definitely order this if you come here, whether the appetizer or in the teshoku bento. The tempura is also great, not too thick breading and good sized portions of shrimp and veggies. Sushi is pretty good too, we enjoyed the hamachi and maguro nigiri, salmon was decent. Recommend you make reservations as this place gets busy at dinner. Wait staff was quick and didn't rush us, even though we were a big group taking several tables.
Definitely recommend making reservations but if they have space available, they will accommodate walk ins like us! We went for an early dinner around 5:30pm and was able to get a small table but it was packed. Friendly staff and excellent service but they are busy so definitely not a quick dinner type of place. I had the butterfish misoyaki and tempura teishoku to share with my daughter and it was delish! The meal came with some cold soba noodles, rice, and red miso soup. Hubby ordered the Hot Hawaiian Roll and the Hawaii Five O Roll. They were good but I enjoyed my meal a lot more. The chef also gave us some appetizers on the house which was delish! I think it was deep fried salmon with cucumber salad. Yum! It was on the pricier side but we enjoyed it! Lots of regulars with large groups.
Japanese food that's a little on the pricier side in my opinion but the quality of fish is pretty good. I had the Misoyaki Butterfish with Tempura Teishoku combination. ($36.95) It came with a lot of food (miso soup, small soba) and the butterfish may have been the best I've ever had. Hubby had the katsu and it was thick and fried perfectly. Place gets pretty packed and you'll likely be denied as a walk in so I recommend making a reservation. Service was really great and parking is plentiful here at this shopping center.

We got smoked out and it got bad to the point where my eyes were getting watery[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]. Not sure if this happens all the time at this spot- this was my first time. The service was okay. We waited over 10 minutes to get cups of water and to put in our order. I totally get that they were short handed which also explains why it took almost 40 minutes for us to be served. Ordered the Negi-Hamachi to try something different. Hamachi is my favorite fish served sashimi style so I decided to switch it up and order the Negi-Hamachi which is finely chopped, yellow-tail with green onion and wasabi over sushi rice served with tsukemono and miso soup. I was super happy with this because the Hamachi was delicious and surprisingly, I did not feel bloated or too full afterwards. read more

It's a popular spot. Just a heads-up: they are firm about their **1.5-hour dining rule**, which starts exactly at your reservation time. * **BYOB:** They don't serve alcohol, but they allow you to bring your own for a small service charge. * **Payment:** Bring cash! You get a **7% discount** for cash payments, whereas credit cards have a 3% fee. * **Specials:** Be sure to ask your server about the daily specials--the staff is incredibly courteous and helpful. **The Food** I ordered the **Salmon Shioyaki**, and it was delicious. The salmon was perfectly cooked and came as a full set with white rice, soba noodles, pickled cucumber, and miso soup. Last time I ate here was super long time ago, pre-pandemic even and it wasn't good. Cant remember what I had last time. But this time the food was quite good. I got the Shokado Bento, which had pretty much a little of everything. I really enjoyed it. We were there for a friend's birthday. They had the miso butter fish. It was a big piece for them. Since it was a good experience, we'll start coming again. read more

I took my Dad here today for lunch for his bday. I got their Tonkatsu teishoku that comes with salad, rice, miso soup, and Japanese pickles. My hubby got their tempura udon set. My parents both got their New York steak set but my Dad got the combo with tempura. My parents wanted the Rib eye steaks but they ran out of that. My parents enjoyed their steaks. Service was good here. They do charge 3% fee if you use a credit card. read more

Awesome experience at Tadashi the other day! Service was excellent and the food was delicious. This is a restaurant we crave, so we were glad it wasn't too busy for Saturday lunch. We were seated right away, without a reservation, and the food flew out the kitchen. All of our wishes came true haha! There was a decent flow of diners for Saturday lunch; perfect for the size of the restaurant. We always enjoy the classic love songs that play in the background while devouring our picks from the menu. I regularly have a hard time choosing, as the menu is quite plentiful, but I spontaneously settled on the Shokado Bento which has a bunch of my faves. The bento includes: miso butterfish, shrimp and veggie temp, chef's choice sashimi, teri chicken, and even 4pcs of their salmon avocado maki. It's the perfect variety, in my opinion, if you're like me and can't decide on what to order. My wife always goes for the uni - that's a must - and different selections of fresh fish. She was also lucky enough to score some fresh Kushi oysters, which she said was to die for. She was debating on ordering another round, but I'm kinda glad she didn't because a dozen was $42! Much better than the last visit! You can read my last review when I ordered the Chirashi Deluxe. My wife and I went out to dinner the day after Valentine's Day. Our waiter recommended the Hot Hawaiian Roll. It had large chunks of fresh ahi inside. The most popular roll is the Hawaii Five-0 Roll. There is fresh hamachi, salmon, and ahi on top. The Shokado Special had high quality salmon and ahi sashimi. The teriyaki chicken was tough and dry. There was a piece of plastic in my first bite of the Hot Hawaiian. I thought it was a fish bone, but I played with it and it was obviously plastic. Overall, a good experience for sushi lovers. read more
Tadashi serves local, traditional, and Americanized Japanese food all under one roof. My Mom, who's visiting, wanted to grab dinner with my Auntie and asked for Japanese food recommendations. We chose Tadashi based on the good reviews and central location between my home and my Auntie's work. One thing I know I'll miss about Hawaii is local-style Butterfish. So of course I had to order the Butterfish Misoyaki Teishoku. The butterfish set came with rice, miso soup, tsukemono, soba, and hijiki! The butterfish was buttery and delicate. Though the miso glaze was a little too sweet for my liking. The tsukemono and hijiki were nice sides and I appreciated the cold and satisfying soba. The miso soup was a little salty for me. Regardless, all of that made the price well worth it as portions were enough to satisfy. My Auntie got the New York Steak and Tempura Teishoku while my Mom got the Una-jyu. She enjoyed it and it tasted soft and moist, the unagi and the sauce were sweet. We also got a couple of rolls to share which were okay but not the best quality I've had. We made reservations in advance for our meal. I recommend calling ahead as they book up quickly and only allow a 90-minute dine-in limit. The restaurant is spacious and laid back with tables for large and small parties (they were also playing 2000's hits my jam). Our waitress was super friendly, helpful, and accommodating. She kept apologizing that they were understaffed and food would take awhile but it was the complete opposite! Everything came out hot, fresh, and ready and we appreciated our water cups constantly being refilled. You can find Tadashi tucked away in the Pearl Kai Shopping Center. There's ample free parking around the lot. I like how they have lots of options for Japanese food from noodles, sushi, entrees, rice bowls, and much more. Service is friendly and the food comes out quickly. Mahalo Tadashi for being a good option to grab a filling meal with my family. read more
Service- excellent! Sushi-excellent! Side dishes-excellent! Miso butterfish- sour, mushy? We let them know that something was wrong. They took it off our bill with apologies. Apparently their refrigerator broke so the fish might be bad. I understand things happen but check the meat and don't serve it if theres any doubt. read more
Everything was great. Haven't been here in 4 years. I'm glad to see that the food is still excellent. Also very happy to see Curtis and the crew. Just a little change but sometimes change is good. They have created more space with less tables to accommodate their shortage of staff. That's totally understandable. They also have a 90 minute time limit which is also totally understandable. If you increase efficiency you can serve a decent amount of people while maximizing your time. It's pretty much down to a science. Very creative even though it comes off a little rude but if you truly appreciate Tadashis and their crew, this is just something they have to do to survive and be competitive in today's economy. Welcome to the restaurant of rules: - 90 minute limit for dine in - 3% up charge on credit cards - No Amex - $0.35 for take out bags if you need more than one - 48 hour prior reservation needed for sushi bar - No take out Now that you know the rules, Tadashi is a decent restaurant. Other than feeling like you're in a rush, the food was decent. The sushi was good but below standards compared to like Waikiki. The udon and tempura were excellent though. The tempura was nice and crisp and the udon was not too salty yet very flavorful. The ambiance is quite an odd one. Like a cafe setting but a bit old fashioned. All in all, the food is good; but take the rules signs down. And don't greet people asking if they're ok with a 90min time limit when the restaurant isn't busy. It makes customers feel unwelcome and I would probably pass coming here for this alone. read more

The food was delicious, with outstanding quality for the price. We ordered the hamachi kama and miso butterfish, and both dishes were sooo good. Of all the dishes we had, the best were the Hamachi Kama and butterfish. Hamachi kama was pretty big--they gave both sides of the collar and a little extra, which was a pleasant surprise and the butterfish was one of the best I've had, perfectly cooked and flavorful with no bones. You could tell they use good quality fish and everything was just delicious. The ambiance was perfect, creating a cozy and inviting atmosphere. The employees were nice and provided excellent service throughout the evening. Their attentiveness and friendliness added to the overall positive experience. I highly recommend Tadashi and will definitely be returning in the future. If you're looking for great food, a wonderful ambiance, and top-notch service, this is the place to go! read more
Sunday November 17, 2024. I decided to try Tadashi as we wanted to try someplace new to us. But, while waiting inside the front door. I noticed Brandon a friend from a long time ago behind the sushi counter. We went to see him and say, Hi. Then we was seated after that. The lady waitress was very friendly and sorry we didn't get her name. We ordered and our food came shortly after. The salad was different and really good. The miso soup was hot and the side dishes were good. Our food came right after that. The Shokado Bento I thought was a good choice to get as it had a little of everything to try for the first time there. It was too much food for me as the eyes were bigger than the stomach at the time of ordering my food. That's okay, I enjoyed everything. The lady asked, if we wanted dessert. Sorry, to say that was a no this time as we were so full. Next time, we will save room for dessert. We will be back for sure! [[HIGHLIGHT]]Place was bright, nice and clean with the tables spread out nicely and not close together.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Food had plenty good food choices to choose from which makes it hard decide as to what to get. I have brushed past Tadashi a million times over the years! It's an unassuming place in Pearl Kai shopping center for a nice Japanese dinner. You should make reservations ahead of time, they're understaffed and don't answer the phone. But of all places, you may be able to walk in and get a table. It's casual inside with a sushi bar and smaller tables for 2-6 people. They had good fish, good service, and I would go back. - Generous yummy cuts of sashimi - Shokado Bento $48.00 was a lot of food for two of us. Took my mom, grandma and aunt here for an early Mothers Day Dinner. They didn't want flower's, candies or anything thing material for Mother's Day.... They specifically wanted "butterfish"! LOCATION: Pearl Kai Shopping Center, on the Diamond Head side of Jiffy Lube. PARKING: Lots of free parking spacing, even right in front of the restaurant. RESERVATIONS: It's highly recommended that you make in advance reservations. This restaurant get's busy from the time they open their doors and they limit you to 90 minutes so that can serve other customers as well. SERVICE: Excellent service! Making phone reservations was easy. They welcomed us the second we walked in the door. And our server was amazing! She was so friendly! And even though she was busy, our order came out as we expected, our water and teas were constantly filled and she even made awesome menu suggestions! FOOD: This is the #1 place to get your butterfish fix! The size of the fish was pretty big! I was expecting something tiny like some other places. Their butterfish was perfect size! We all ordered the butterfish and tempura teishoku. We were stuffed to our necks with food! Tempura was crispy, butterfish was amazing and their sushi rolls and sashimi was great quality. My mom even complimented their soy sauce hahaha PRICE: Reasonable for the quality and quantity of food that we got. I had a party of 5. We all ordered the special menu butterfish and tempura Teishoku, a sashimi boat and two sushi rolls. More than enough food, and our bill came out to about $250. (The sashimi boat was the most expensive menu item). All of it was worth every penny! We licked our plates clean!!! Lol This was my first time here to Tadashi and I was very impressed with their service and quality of food. That butterfish tho!!!! Definitely coming back for more!!!! read more
