Yakiniku - "grilled meat", literal translation. You pick your meats, light up that grill and roast your selections. This dining experience in a hole-in-the-wall restaurant tucked away in residential Japan was the ultimate immersion and best way to kick off my first time visiting JAPAN! Delicious, wonderful restaurant run by very friendly people! It was a neat experience, and the wagyu was prepared perfectly with a great blend of seasonings. The BiBamBap was excellent, and adding in some spicy kimchi tied everything together. Highly recommend!

Good service with great food. Although I did not order, but I wish I did their sashimi looked fresh and yummy. With no disappointment, I ate the tonkatsu and tempura teishoku. The meal comes with miso soup, soba noodles, and pickled vegetables. BYOB as you please.

I recently had dinner here. My daughter and family live in Aiea and we were looking for a restaurant that was convenient for me to meet them at. My grandson also wanted to have fresh sushi. Yelp reviews were good, so I made a reservation. This is a family run business that serves Japanese food in a friendly welcoming vibe. Service is very attentive. The food is on the pricey side. My grandson did enjoy his sushi, which was made to order and he said the fish was fresh. I had the Miso Butterfish & Tempura Teishoku. I found the Tempura good, but the tempura sauce too salty. The miso butterfish was excellent. My daughter and son-in-law enjoyed what they ordered. IMO the food is good but not outstanding. Portions are generous. Unfortunately, they no longer have a liquor license and charge a corkage fee. They even charge for hot tea. Tadashi is a good option for Japanese food in the Aiea/Pearlridge area. Support local family business.

I only heard good things about Tadashi..Well had to see for myself. Tadashi is located in "Pearl Kai" across kam hwy from the old Sears. The parking can be challenging in the evenings. Alot of eateries, stores and a gym all using the same parking. Tadashi is located deeper into the mall closer to the gym and a 4 or 5 store fronts from baskin & robins towards the ocean. Their storefront is very low key. All the outside windows are obscured with posters..menus and other announcements. Entry is a small unassuming door leading to a sonewhat small airconditioned dining area with a bar (no alcohol but can bring your own with corkage fee) area to the right. The wooden tables and chairs are well spaced out and doesnt feel cluttered. The staff is pleasant and dilligent in their duties. Our order didnt take long. The menu is your typical japanese restaurant fare (I guess not too familiar) Tonkatsu..butter fish..sukiyaki..soup...noodles..not sure if they had steak or salmon because we were told it wasnt available...not sure if they ran out or discontinued? The food was good quality ..portions was good and pretty much manageable (japanese food is always on higher end of price spectrum) Everything was spot on! Service was quick and pleasant..food was quality and tasty ..restaurant seemed very clean but I gotta mention the mens bathroom. It was in house and seemed to be very clean and maintained but (pic) the floor in front of the urinal looked like something out of a horor movie...It was all nasty and cracked and it seemed there was a toilet there at one time....I can just imagine something coming out of the ground while you doing your business lol... they should have covered it up because that was a bit creepy!! Anyways definetely worth it to check out..just avoid the mens bathroom

Tried Tadashi for the first time & it was amazing! The portions were good for price. Their miso butterfish is bigger than most places, very sweet & rich in flavor. Love their pickled veggie sides and miso soup. Babe enjoyed his hamachi bowl. Service was great. Everyone was friendly and on top of it! Ambiance is relaxing. I like how they space out their tables so you have your own personal space. Nice, chill lunch or dinner spot. It's BYOB! Give them a try!

Came here on a Thursday night for my friend's birthday. There was a lot of parking and not too crowded. Tadashi is located at the Pearl Kai shopping center off of Kamehameha highway across from Pearlridge. I ordered the miso butterfish with shrimp tempura Teishoku and it was so delicious! I forgot to take a photo of my food since it looked so good i couldn't wait to dive in. This place makes the best butterfish on the island, a huge generous portion of ordering the miso butterfish teishoku The fish tastes so fresh and so good. Hot green tea is complimentary. My friend got the Shokado bento which was a Chef Selection of Sashimi, Butterfish, Teriyaki Chicken, Tempura, Soybean and Salmon Avocado Rol!, that was $50 but well worth it. Service was friendly and quick and great quiet place to talk story. If you want yummy Japanese food, this is the place to go to.

Decent Japanese at waimalu. Got the tempura and salmon combo. Both were tasty and the soba was nice. Place is spacious and staff friendly

Unfortunately, the quality of sushi has gone downhill.

We were seated right away with no reservations and the host informed us of the 90 min time limit.... We noticed the staff was rushing around to get ready as they just opened 10 mins prior. We ordered the Butterfish tempura teishoku with some salmon, ikura and hamachi nigiri. Also ordered a Chuu-toro tekka. We haven't been here in over one year and sadly the quality of sushi has gone way downhill. Found a bone in the Chuu-toro tekka so our server let the kitchen know and sent it back. Next, the ikura was not fresh so our server returned it. Salmon smelt fishy too. Hamachi was just ok. Rice was not prepared well either... no flavor and texture was quite hard. Butterfish was decent, but overall experience was 1 star. Service was not up to par and the food reflected the staffs lack of motivation. Needs major improvement.

It's a Friday night and came in at 5:00pm right when they opened. Shared parking with other businesses was a little challenging. There were some open tables left, as we were seated. They did stress on the 90 minute dining which already made us feel rushed. There were lot's of staff ready for the reservation guest. I haven't been here for awhile but I got to say the quality of food wasn't the same. We had a variety of nigiri and the rice just didn't measure up. It was a little hard with no taste. The Ikura was a little mushy and not fresh. Chuu-toro Tekka had a big bone in a little roll. We did return those items and they took it off the bill. The salmon nigiri had a fishy smell but it was just okay. On the otherhand, the butterfish was excellent. It was tasty and flavorful. But at that point we kind of lost our appetite, so we just took it home. Probably, it was just an off beat night.

Tadashi in Pearl Kai is one of those traditional, Japanese hidden gems in Pearl City that truly deserves more attention. The teishoku sets are a classic order and a great deal whenever you go to a Japanese restaurant. The portions are generous and come out in a parade of flavor with the multitude of small dishes that lead to the main event. My husband was especially pleased to find natto don on the menu, and is happy he found someplace he can come back to. What made our visit even more special was discovering that one of our servers from Kabuki is now working at Tadashi. It was such a delightful surprise to see her again, making it feel like a full-circle moment. Every birthday in the family, we would celebrate at Kabuki. How has it taken us so long to come to Tadashi? Don't be surprised if this is a staple for my family in the future. If you haven't been yet, make sure to check it out--you won't be disappointed!

Tadashi has the best miso butterfish on the island! Definitely order this if you come here, whether the appetizer or in the teshoku bento. The tempura is also great, not too thick breading and good sized portions of shrimp and veggies. Sushi is pretty good too, we enjoyed the hamachi and maguro nigiri, salmon was decent. Recommend you make reservations as this place gets busy at dinner. Wait staff was quick and didn't rush us, even though we were a big group taking several tables.

Definitely recommend making reservations but if they have space available, they will accommodate walk ins like us! We went for an early dinner around 5:30pm and was able to get a small table but it was packed. Friendly staff and excellent service but they are busy so definitely not a quick dinner type of place. I had the butterfish misoyaki and tempura teishoku to share with my daughter and it was delish! The meal came with some cold soba noodles, rice, and red miso soup. Hubby ordered the Hot Hawaiian Roll and the Hawaii Five O Roll. They were good but I enjoyed my meal a lot more. The chef also gave us some appetizers on the house which was delish! I think it was deep fried salmon with cucumber salad. Yum! It was on the pricier side but we enjoyed it! Lots of regulars with large groups.

Last time I ate here was super long time ago, pre-pandemic even and it wasn't good. Cant remember what I had last time. But this time the food was quite good. I got the Shokado Bento, which had pretty much a little of everything. I really enjoyed it. We were there for a friend's birthday. They had the miso butter fish. It was a big piece for them. Since it was a good experience, we'll start coming again.

A must get when we're craving curry!…read more This might sound crazy but this is our go to spot after our Sam's Club run. The portions are huge and prices are reasonable! This place also has a huge menu so there's something for everyone! They have a variety of curry plates, bentos, poke, and even noodle dishes. Our go to is definitely the chicken karaage curry plate! The chicken is always crispy, a bit sweet, and super juicy! It balances out the slightly spicy and salty curry. We also love that there's vegetables in the curry (carrots & potatoes). We love that the curry comes in a separate container so no soggy chicken! We've also tried their gyoza which is always crispy and has a lot of filling inside. Most recently, I tried their miso salmon bento and that was so flavorful! It came with toss salad, edamame, and miso soup! At around $14 per plate, I think that's a pretty good deal for the amount of food you get!

I personally was not a fan of their curry but their poke bowls is bomb. Their fish seems fresh and it taste great. The rice... I know it's just rice but compared to other spots, their rice was awesome. They give you a choice between sushi rice, white rice and brown rice. Awesome poke, awesome rice. Overall I can't give 5 stars because as stated, I am not a fan of their curry but I still would give 4 stars. I'll give their curry a try again... maybe curry just doesn't go with loco moco for me. Their service is typical... it's a food court so can't really expect a lot. Food court of course will be full with customers during certain times and other times it'll be empty. They get the food out as fast as possible but again, can't expect a lot. They did get my food out quickly but I went in the afternoon like around 3 pm so pretty sure that was after the lunch rush. Although the menu has changed a bit, their food and service has stayed consistent. Service has improved as far as timing of food coming out (as goes with all freshly open restaurants). Their staff has always been superb. Top notch, super friendly, knowledgeable of the menu items and always accommodating. I've asked for their recommendations on certain items and their recommendations have always been a good choice. On today's visit (June 2026) we ordered the Korean soy garlic chicken wings, tuna toast and truffle fries as an appetizer. The wings were perfectly cooked.. juicy on the inside and perfectly seasoned and crispy on the outside. The tuna toast was very very very flavorful. It had a hint of smoke and citrus. Interesting but delightful experience for my taste buds. For our main course my date had chefs choice sushi and I had the pork loin katsu. The sushi was fresh and flavorful... you get 10 pcs so depends on your appetite (I'm a big eater so I would've ordered 3x sushi) he enjoyed the perfect portion (he's a skinny boy). I went for the pork katsu..... I highly recommend the pork loin. Super tender and juicy on the inside and perfectly flaky and crispy on the outside. For dessert we had the sweet potato crème brûlée.... Ok so we ordered this bc it's different.. but I wished I went for something more lighter due to alllll the food we ate. But it was interesting. Delicious concept. But for a dessert.... I would've chosen something more lighter. If you're still hungry after your meal... the sweet potato will top you off. Overall, I enjoy this place.... Nice place on the west side, free parking, great food, superb service and beats driving into town for sure! Oh... we also had a bottle of Dassai 45 sake with your meal. I enjoyed it a lot!

Will definitely be back because all other dishes we had were great and service was attentive and efficient! Original review: Service and staff were stellar. But the chicken katsu was one of the worst I've ever had on O'ahu. The chicken katsu was greasy and soaked in old oil that tasted rancid and oxidized, which made the panko a disappointingly saturated mess. The panko was way too browned, and neither flaky or freshly crunchy like katsu should truly be, and was a far cry from the photo in the menu. The poor, fatty chicken quality and the rubbery skin left on the chicken pieces just added to the gristly and chewy nature of the katsu. Charging customers these prices for this kind of subpar quality chicken is absolutely insulting, and we couldn't even finish the dish. It's such a disappointment to write this kind of review, but others need to know what they're getting when they order katsu at Gyotaku.

It's a suitable replacement for the time, for families to enjoy sushi or a Teppanyaki dinner "show". The layout has the Teppanyaki dining tables in the front as you enter, rather than at the back of on the side. I suppose it gives an air of excitement as you walk in and watch the chefs put on their show, but the level of "noise" it creates is a bit overwhelming if you're trying to enjoy a nice dinner with a date, or family and friends Our extended family (10 people) went there for an early (5:30pm) dinner on Saturday, before Father's Day, and were seated at the side room behind the glass partitions. From there, we could hear everything happening at the Teppanyaki tables, as though we were right there; especially when they sang "Happy birthday" about 4 different times for the parties enjoying their dinner. Just as a "heads up", I'm not against it, but it was really difficult for us in the other room to actually have a normal conversation across the table while ago that was happening. The food is pretty decent, with a wide selection of sushi rolls and other standard items. I'm not a big sushi roll eater, I prefer great sashimi and an occasional nigiri, but the rolls were pretty good, with several unique offerings. They have Oyster shooters and Uni shooters that come as 2 per order. There were 3 of us (me, my daughter and SIL), so we asked if we could just order 3, rather than 4, but sadly, no. It was fine, and someone in the group ate the other one, but I wished they would price it as each; as most other restaurants that have this item do. The sashimi was average, but it's more of a family dining spot, rather than a sushi bar. The service was good, and everyone enjoyed the food and fellowship. The chicken katsu and ebi fry lunch special was good, the curry was pretty flavorful. It reminds me of golden curry I'd make at home. The katsu was crispy as expected. I liked the rice too, the perfect kind to soak up the curry and pair with the katsu. The Katsu Kushi was fun to eat as it had a good amount of variety. I enjoyed the mochi quite a lot, the beef was a bit tough to eat, and I would note that the soft shell crab was extremely fishy. Like INEDIBLE fishy. I don't know if they always have it like that or if it was just an off one. Either way it was NOT pleasant. The service was friendly, I would definitely visit again if I'm craving katsu and/or curry and was near the area (wouldn't go out of my way for it though).

Food: 4/5 Service: 4/5…read moreAmbiance: 4.5/5 Stopped in for dinner on a Saturday night. We made reservations and were seated right away. Since this place is located in the mall, parking is very easy. We ordered asahi beers to drink, chicken katsu teishoku, and several kushi katsu (zucchini, shishito pepper, mushroom, and fishcake). Food was very tasty but I noticed it was a bit oily and fatty. Food felt heavy in my stomach at the end of the dinner. Serving sizes exceeded my expectation and my friend and I shared the chicken katsu teishoku. This came with some vegetables and miso soup. Their lettuce salad is unlimited/bottomless and what helped combat the oily food. Service was okay. I didn't like that they passed our table a few times without clearing dishes after seeing us struggle with managing everything on our table. Servers did their job. I recommend trying this place! The food is very tasty and portions are big.
