I've been to the Kahala location. This one is larger and has more parking. Today, they had fresh blue fin tuna and it was the same price of the ahi. Domo Cafe Pearl Kai was great, and the service really stood out. I came in kind of rushed before work and had ordered ahead, but I accidentally sent my order to the wrong location. I did not realize until I got there, so I thought I would probably have to buy the whole meal again. Instead, they were immediately understanding and told me it was okay. They just remade my order at this location and did not charge me again, even though the mistake was completely mine. I don't know what happened to the order at the other location. Since it was a common order maybe they waited to see if someone else ordered that? That kind of service really stands out. They definitely did not need to do that, and it made a big difference, especially since I was trying to eat quickly before going into work. Since they were already helping me out, I added a fried fish side, and it was really good. It was very crispy and came with a sweet and sour sauce that worked well with it. Looks like minimal changes were done to the restaurant except to take out the revolving sushi bar and replacing it with tables. I came for lunch and ordered one of their combination meals. Karaage chicken came out first, great way to start our first ever meal here. It had like a yuzu flavored mayonnaise to dip it in, gave it a nice subtle accent of flavor. Definitely getting this again. I had the sashimi bowl, nice big cuts of fish. Maguro, salmon and hamachi were really good! Ikura was a bit fishy, but then again all the ikura in Hawaii is like that unless you spend a fortune on it. I would have preferred the sushi rice with a stronger vinegar flavor, but that is just my personal preference. The shoyu ramen bowl was the least favorite as the noodles were soggy, menma was a bit too crunchy and broth was just me. Located inside the Pearl Kai Center, former Kuru Kuru Location next to Coco Curry is Domo Cafe. I was craving for some sushi, but instead was captured by their Poke bowl menu. Ordered the Spicy Tempura Bowl, but instead of spicy tuna I replaced it with the Yuzu Shoyu Ahi. Let me tell you the presentation and the quality of the ingredients used surprised me. They use sashimi grade fish which is top tier and if you're not into raw fish they do serve hot dishes such as tempura and ramen. There are also lunch sets and sushi bentos as well. Sorry, still trying to catch up on all my reviews. But I'm so so glad we finally have a Domo Cafe on my side of the island! Their second location is in the Pearl Kai Shopping Center in the old Kuru Kuru. You really can't go wrong with the prices and how fresh the fish is. It's really close to my boyfriend's house so we've been here a few times already. And we just got a gift card for here so my mouth is already drooling to go back. There's usually always tables available when we go which is nice that we don't usually have to wait. We both got don's and it comes with miso soup. My boyfriend added uni to his with a side of shrimp tempura (his two favs!). I love that you can taste how fresh the fish is and everything is flavorful but not overpowering. The yuzu flavor is always my favorite to get with my poke. And I like that it's on sushi rice which makes it that much better. The staff is usually always very friendly and attentive. And our orders usually comes out fairly quickly. I definitely recommend you checking them out if you haven't already done so! read more

My experience with Domo Cafe was so extremely disappointing that I feel others should know what happened. I placed a large delivery order (approximately $180) for a close friend who had recently given birth and was also going through serious health issues. My goal was to take one thing off her family's plate during an incredibly difficult time. Approximately 13 minutes before the order was due to arrive, Domo Cafe called me and admitted they had forgotten to give the delivery driver the largest item in the order: a $60.95 sushi platter that was the centerpiece of the meal. Rather than taking responsibility and coordinating a solution themselves, I was instructed to contact the delivery driver and ask him to return. I called the driver three times, left a voicemail, and sent multiple text messages but received no response. I then contacted ChowNow (delivery company) customer support, who informed me they were unable to dispatch another driver. At that point, neither Domo Cafe nor ChowNow offered a solution to complete the delivery. I was ultimately forced to drive to the restaurant myself to retrieve the missing food. When I arrived, I discovered they had ALSO forgotten to give the driver the mixed poke salad plate. What was initially presented as one forgotten item turned out to be TWO missing items that had never left the restaurant. The most frustrating part wasn't that mistakes were made; mistakes happen. It was the complete lack of accountability afterward. I paid for delivery, delivery fees, and a generous tip because I expected the restaurant and delivery service to fulfill the order. Instead, I spent my evening making phone calls, attempting to coordinate between the restaurant and ChowNow, and ultimately completing the delivery myself. Domo Cafe only refunded me the sushi platter, which in my opinion, is still unacceptable for the inconvenience, time, and effort required on my behalf to correct DOMO CAFE'S MISTAKES. I hope Domo Cafe reevaluates how situations like this are handled because no customer should have to spend their evening resolving a problem they did not create. Because of this experience, I will not be returning to Domo Cafe. More importantly, I cannot in good faith recommend this restaurant to my friends or family. The complete lack of accountability and customer service overshadowed what was meant to be a thoughtful gesture for someone I care deeply about. read more

Domo Café has opened their second Hawaii location in the former Kuru Kuru space at Pearl Kai shopping center. Although they are known for their sashimi grade fish featured in their sushi sets and rolls, they also offer non-fish bowls like teri chicken and sukiyaki beef as well as cooked fish so there is something for everyone. The menu is pretty extensive, but I quickly decided on the Spicy Ahi Poke Bowl and it was delicious! Since our group dined during Domo Café's Saturday free fish cutting demonstration, we lucked out and got treated to samples of the freshly cut ahi. I've been a fan of Domo Cafe since they first opened in Downtown back in 2015. They always have such great quality fish and their sauces are perfect! It's been a hot minute since I've been back to Domo Cafe since I've been working out near the Airport but now that the Pearl Kai location opened, I knew I had to come down! Staff is so friendly and quickly greeted us when we entered, asking whether we were dining in or ordering to go. There is ample seating inside to dine in and some bench seating inside to allow you to wait for your to-go order. I ordered the seared salmon bowl and omg that was amazing! Salmon was so fresh and the unagi sauce and I'm assuming a kewpie mayo type of sauce on top, so good! Perfect portioning between fish, sauce, and rice. Found out that this place opened in the Pearl Kai Shopping Center where Kuru Kuru Sushi was located. Checked out their menu and the pics on Yelp to make it easier to know what we want. My list was pretty long so we ordered the ones we wanted to try first: - Appetizer: Age Dashi Tofu $9.95 that was topped with a generous portion of Bonito Flakes. There were 12 deep fried cubes of tofu and just enough Soy-Dashi sauce that was in a container. The tofu was so soft on the inside...like eating pudding. Yum! - Appetizer: Ika Gesso Kara'age $9.95 that came with 6 pieces of battered and deep fried squid with a Yuzu mayo sauce in a container. This might've been a little overcooked because it was kind of hard but it was tasty with the sauce. - Sushi Rolls: Fresh Spicy Tempura Roll (C4) $13.95 - shrimp tempura rolled in sushi rice and topped with spicy ahi. The spicy ahi had just enough kick for me. Sometimes, places prepares it so spicy, I can't eat/enjoy it. This roll was good but I was hungry and lazy to mix the wasabi/shoyu sauce...think it would've tasted so much better. Next time... - Udon Sets & Donburi: Teriyaki Chicken (D7) $14.95 - strips of teriyaki chicken over rice. The chicken was really good...lots of taste but thought it was really pricey that consisted of only chicken that's maybe equivalent to 2 pieces of thighs with rice in a container that I thought was small. Maybe it should come with a bowl of miso soup??? Even though it was good, don't think I'd order this again for that price. - Special Bentos: Furikake Salmon & 2-pc Garlic Hamachi (A9) $19.95...all bentos come with hot miso soup. The salmon was moist and tasty and the miso soup was really good too! We enjoyed most of the food and would return to try different menu items. Our eyes were bigger than our stomach...we had enough leftovers for another meal so instead of $70 for a meal for 2, it's like a meal for 4...yay! The worker who helped me was very nice and patient and answered all of my questions. He had my food in a paper bag when he brought it from the back, took it all out to go over everything from what sauces belonged to what item and informed me that the bento included the miso soup which I was unaware of. Nice surprise! The dining area is spacious, clean and bright...very inviting! On a tv monitor, it showed that they hold a "Live fish cutting each Saturday at 11:30am". Wow, I'm now planning to come back to attend this presentation and order lunch! The service is fairly quick and the food is always fresh. Their fish is high quality and the prices are fair. If I had to hype something on the menu, the yuzu salmon bowl is my absolute favorite. It's fresh and light and well balanced. I have tried their nigiri, rolls, and everything has been good. I also love the volcano roll. One last winner is the tempura. We came to Domo Cafe for a friend lunch date on a Monday. It wasn't crowded at all, but service to order was a little slow. Once we ordered, the food came out quickly. I tried the spicy tempura bowl that comes with spicy ahi, shrimp tempura, and crab. It was yummy and did not taste super fishy. My husband got the chicken karaage and the spicy ahi. It was interesting that the cut on the spicy ahi and the one in the bowl were different. It was diced smaller, which he loves. However, mine was large chunks. My daughter got the udon with tempura. Overall the food was really good. Prices are reasonable, but not an everyday meal. I am happy that they have a location in kaimuki, which is close to my house. Came by Domo Café around 5:30 PM on a Sunday. It wasn't too busy when we arrived and we were seated right away, but it did start to get a little busy soon after with people waiting to get a table and picking up to-go orders (always a good sign). Unlike other locations, this Domo offers full wait service. The staff was super friendly and attentive, keeping our water glasses full and making sure we were taken care of. Food came out quickly and everything looked and tasted great. We had the Seared Salmon Bowl, the Domo Premium Bowl with yuzu shoyu, and the Rainbow Roll. The fish was fresh, portions good, the rice was pillowy soft, and that yuzu shoyu added a nice brightness that complements the fish so well. After the lion dance, they had dim sum for their workers and a whooole roasted pig they were giving out to customers. My daughter loved it! They also gave my daughter a caprisun. We ordered & it was a while for our food to come out but, it was understandable. They were very busy! They also fed the whole lion dance team. Here's what we got: 1. Rainbow Roll: a California roll with real crab meat topped with a variety of fish including ahi, shrimp, hamachi, avocado. 2. Miso Butterfish Bento: came with salad and miso soup.
