Mixed feelings. Husband was wanting Sushi but California Rock was just too far for us especially since the random Freeway constructions (planned by our brilliant DOT). Yelp lead us here. Lots and lots of parking stalls. It's in the stripmall by Safeway and Po Sing but it's in own area away from everything else. Dim almost bar like lighting which I didn't find to be a problem but I saw some tables busting out the Phone flashlight to see the menu. Employees were kind and did enough to get the job done but definitely nothing above or notable. A lot of them look young so it's understandable. We had gotten both (ahi and beef) tataki dishes and 3 rolls. The Sweetheart roll is super cute in description but delivered looking nothing like a "heart" the taste was great. We absolutely loved the cowboy roll and recommend the volcano. Price point was around $100 (not including tip yet) which seems average nowadays so that wasn't a a concern. What had bothered me was I had taken the first sip from my water glass and it tasted sweet, almost like sugar. I couldn't figure it out until much later in my meal the lighting hit the inner rim of my glass just right and I saw Lipstick smudges :) very disgusted by that. read more

Well...I was a bit surprised by the trip on the opposite side of Mililani, to where Safeway would be at. I never been to this place, especially considering it's opposite of where I work at in Mililani. It's a Japanese restaurant called Sakura, and truth be told, I didn't know what to expect. Inside looked very quaint for the most part, and they absolutely didn't disappoint in terms of the service. Now the food. So I ordered the Hibachi Shrimp dinner, and it was not bad. I liked the vegetables and shrimp for the most part. The fried rice was okay, and the noodles were okay. The shrimp was excellent and the vegetables were the best parts of the dinner. The noodles were a tad oily underneath, and...not the best part of the dinner because...as I kept eating my dinner slowly and finally finished with my food, there laid a visible pool of oil at the bottom of the plate. It was good, but too much oil at the end there. It's an 8.5 out of 10 for me. Maybe next time I should try check that place out for lunch. read more

It was my daughter's birthday and she absolutely loves sushi. We walked in on a Thursday night around 5pm and it was already almost filled. Our server was new (I believe it was his first night) and he did just great. I liked that they came up to let us know and the person training him was nearby if he needed assistance. Anyway, we ordered a bunch of sushi, I got a bento and we even had dessert for the little one celebrating another year. We all enjoyed our food with nothing left on our plates. This was our first time here, and we were happy to find a place that was open past 8 p.m. We were able to make reservations without any issues. The menu offered a wide variety of items, and the food was served fairly quickly. Overall, the food was great. The only downside was that while customers were still eating, the staff began cleaning with strong-smelling chemicals. I'm highly sensitive to smells, and the scent (which seemed like Fabuloso) made it difficult for me to enjoy my meal. The staff was also mopping the floor around our area without any signage indicating the floor was wet, which raised a safety concern. This was my second time dining at Sakura, but this time was extra special--we brought a party of 23 to celebrate my mom's birthday, and WOW, everything exceeded our expectations! I made the reservation just two days in advance, and they still managed to accommodate us with ease. When we arrived, we were seated right away in the back area, which turned out to be the perfect spot, semi-private and spacious enough for everyone to mingle comfortably. Our server, Michael, was phenomenal. He took care of our large group flawlessly and even remembered every order without writing anything down (seriously impressive!). We started with appetizers for the table, and then everyone ordered their own entrées. The show-stopper was definitely the boat platter a few people shared--it was gorgeous and such a hit with the group. I went with the sushi dinner plate myself, and the fish was incredibly fresh and flavorful. From start to finish, the service, atmosphere, and food were spot on. If you're looking for a fun place to celebrate or even just a cozy dinner date, I can't recommend Sakura enough! Our first time eating dinner here on a Saturday night, and we saw a cardboard box flattened as the welcome mat (maybe due to the rain). Inside we noticed the floor was very slippery. We had a reservation, and we were seated immediately. We did not sit in the hibachi area but could tell many customers were enjoying the entertainment. The atmosphere was similar to a bar or nightclub. The pop music was pretty loud. The people were loud. Our server seemed a little rude but it may have been due to a language issue. We asked about a sauce, what was garlic rayu in a dish, and he said it was the name of the sauce. Our food was quickly prepared and was pretty good. I did not care for the salad dressing. The shrimp tempura seemed a little heavy on the batter, but I enjoyed the food. By the time we were ready to leave, there were people waiting to be seated. read more

Ate here for my birthday and I wanted to get the Hawaiian boat. There was alot of food on it. It came with 2 sushi rolls (ahi and cream cheese and shrimp tempura with imitation crab). I really liked the shrimp tempura roll but could've done without the cream cheese in the other roll. It also came with katsu, rib eye steak, shrimp and vegetable tempura, and soft shell crab. I do wish that instead of the tempura soft shell crab it came with and with ahi poke instead. It also came with miso soup but you do need to ask for rice bowls on the side. But other than that it was a Pretty filling meal for my family (5 plus a baby). The ambience was nice my kids want to try the hibachi grill next time. My second time dining here with family. The sweet heart roll was so delicious. My Combo C, Salmon Teriyaki and Tonkatsu combo, was delicious and generous. We come here about twice a month because the food is always good, the cocktails are great, and their staff is on it! Our favorite rolls are the dancing dragon, yummy roll, sweetheart roll and Okinawa roll. We like to get their sashimi sample as well. At least my 4th time here and I'm updating my review again. Food is pretty good as usual. The Godzilla Roll is the bomb! Service is fast. Food combinations on menu still takes a while to figure out and the parking is plentiful & free. The notable difference on this dining experience was that our server was friendlier than usual. Although there was a slight language barrier (Chinese accent), our server was thorough in answering our questions about the food and had a nice chit chat with my adult niece about their favorite dessert places. Went for a Christmas lunch with a family member. It was early and we got a nice booth. Was surprised already had people there as it had just opened. Our waiter was nice and friendly. I had been to Sakura through the years and it has changed but I still enjoy it! I grew up eating tempura and I was quite happy that my shrimp tempura was delicious! It was hot and crispy and although no one can beat my mother's tempura, it was a good lunch! I had the tempura with teriyaki beef and my family member had the teriyaki beef and chicken. We shared what's called a Christmas tree roll. Consist of Shrimp tempura, imitation crab , tobiko, avocado and eel sauce. It was surprisingly pretty good . I ordered their 2 choice Bento box B . I ordered shrimp tempura/vegetables tempura, fried tofu comes with salad and miso soup . Prices are very reasonable and the taste is alright . In a couple of minutes, we were seated, and water and menus were provided. I ordered the Hibachi Calamari. Was told that it was available. only a Hibachi table, so I ordered a Teishoku consisting of chicken katsu and shrimp tempura. The chicken was pounded flat. it had had crispy crust, but it lacked flavor. Tempura consisted of two shrimp, one sweet potato, and one zucchini. Overall, I'd say just average. Feeling the heat... Sakura is located in Mililani Marketplace though this isn't the larger shopping center it makes parking at this large lot a breeze and thanks to lucky Nadine who has won a generous gift card to Sakura and you know it's absolutely worth the drive out to beautiful Mililani. Though Nadine called in advance and found out that they only take reservations for parties of six or more but you know we decided to go early as possible and yes there is a sign in sheet which I did but will ask if you're gonna dine in at the Hibachi or regular tables which confused me at first since I had no idea what the Hibachi was and gosh what a surprisingly meal we were in for. The Hibachi is what many of us know as teppanyaki where the chef puts on a show to prepared your items on the flattop including the onion volcano as yes really I was thrilled and enjoyed this rare opportunity. Nadine had Salmon and Steak while I got the Salmon as well but went with Chicken and informed of my shellfish allergy so after preparing all the items cooked the shrimp and lobster (from other folks in the party) last which was a thoughtful and smart system. A generous gift card to Sakura Restaurant at Mililani Marketplace was one of the four prizes. I was the lucky winner of one of the prizes! Mahalo! Irene M. was nice enough to drive all the way over from town to meet me at SakuraRestaurant. I had called for reservations, but they only accept reservations for parties of 6 or more. We walked into the cool, dark, OG restaurant and selected a seat at the Hibachi Table (instead of a bar seat or a seat at a regular table). Some places call this style of cooking: teppanyaki... Everyone sits around a grill and watches a chef that makes a show out of cracking egg shells and sliding the eggs down the back of a spatula, slicing meats and tossing the cubes in the air, filling a stack of onion rings with oil and setting them on fire, etc. Hui was our efficient, hard-working server. He distributed bowls of rice to those who didn't order fried rice; refilled water glasses; took our orders; and brought us green salads and miso soup. Tony was our hibachi chef. He was entertaining, skillful, and seasoned/cooked everything perfectly! He tossed pieces of broccoli into customers' mouths, made a Happy Face with oil on the grill and lit it up, and cleaned the grill at the end... and did other "tricks". I had the delicious steak and salmon combo. It came with a bowl of white rice, miso soup, and a green salad withyummydressing. The grilled shrimps were the appetizer. This was a really fun experience! We never knew about this restaurant! It seems like it has been around for a while. Service at the Mililani store has been bad during the last couple visits. We waited 40 minutes for our order to be taken while the tables around us that came after were already getting food. Sakura is such an amazing place to dine in you can either be seated on the teppanyaki side or restaurant side. However you are not limited to just ordering one or the other you can order what ever it is you want. Food here was amazing not to mention the atmosphere was great as well. The staff are very friendly and willing to help make decisions if you are stuck between anything. All in all an incredible place paired with great food and friendly staff.
