Hamburger Steak chicken katsu combo.
Gina H.

This establishment is one of the more affordable fast food spots. I would have to say that it was just ok. I would have to say portion size for $14 is kinda small. Chicken Katsu curry was as expected. Gravy is from Their curry stew which is to be expected. Just don't expect Japanese style curry. Hamburger steak was thin and very underwhelming. Once I got the fish sandwich and that was stinky. I would never recommend or order it again. Whenever I stop by, I would recommend sticking to the hamburger. It gives old fashioned drive inn vibes. Fries are usually good. Fried chicken is one of my favorite things here but it's not home style flavor more Chinese style Which is still Ono.

BBQ Mixed Plate
Barbara D.

We ordered the mix plate and the garlic chicken which came with rice and mac salad. This spots a super hole in the wall with no seating inside. You actually can't even order no inside and just at the door. However, the lady working there was sweet and our food was ready very quickly. As everyone stated, the portion size is pretty big. The pricing is affordable compared to most places! I would say the garlic chicken was mostly batter and thin pieces of chicken but the mix plate is worth it! The meats were well seasoned and tender. Next time I will definitely get the mixed plate.

Takeout lunch in Aiea, O'ahu, Hawaii... I was in real starvation mode when I figured out that i was hungry because I hadn't had lunch yet. It was after 3pm when I looked through my list of places that i haven't visited. M & M BBQ had pretty good reviews from friends such as Bruddah Fran, Rod U., Peter T., Emi H. (Former Community Manager of Yelp Hawaii), Clay Y., Kathy Y., Cathy T. (Former Yelp Hawaii Ambassador), and Mikey C. Of Ventura! Located on the ground level of a two-story building, next to the former Aiea Library, M & M BBQ is takeout only. The entrance of the restaurant was blocked off with a table. Order and pay here. If you have cash, you can avoid the credit card fee. Service was pleasant and efficient! I got my Hamburger Mix Plate and BBQ Mix plate quite quickly. I ate the Hamburger first... real comfort food! The beef stew (with tender meat, but slightly bland gravy) was hidden under the teri beef. I didn't really care for the teri beef, but it filled my tummy! Next, I was disappointed in the BBQ short ribs (kalbi), but was pleasantly surprised by the BBQ chicken... wow! And I don't really like chicken! This one was well marinated and yummy! The rice was good and the macaroni salad was great! Gosh... It all evened out! The prices were reasonable! I'll be back!

Always great to come back here either for breakfast, lunch or dinner. We love to support small business / mom and pops shops. They're the ones that brings back to old school days. Their portion on the mink loco Moco was just right for me and the Mr. Had the bento special that filled him right up! Mahalo M&M BBQ for another satisfying yummy in our tummy ;)

We are visiting island on vacation and this was our first stop to eat. We were all hungry! Food lives up to the ratings. We all ate everything on our plates and portion size is good too. Unfortunately, we had to eat outside by door but it made meal even better. Definitely worth the stop.

I happened upon this place situated right across the Aiea Library. A Small littlr hole in thr wall next to island manapua. This is strictly take out only. They say they open at 8:30 am and they literally come in to open thr shop at 8:30am. An asian lady and man more past the middle age. They was old skool ..very appreciative and service oriented. The food is your typical plate lunch fare and thr portions are decent and prices very affordable. If you are looking to grab good food at fair prices give them a try..nothing wrong here.

We were looking for a local spot near Pearl Harbor and found M&M a mile away. Highly recommend making the drive and grabbing a meal. The prices are also good!

Food and prices are good here. The beef curry was really tender and went really good with their mac salad. The hamburger patties are homemade which is hard to find nowadays. It's only take out no dine in anymore.

Sweet & Sour Spareribs

Tried the sweet & sour spareribs for $11.90 and found it to be delicious and they gave a lot. The lady working was very friendly and sweet. This is definitely a hidden gem.

The place isn't the cleanest, but this place has been here since I was a child, so what's can you expect. The lady isn't the most friendly person, but she always says, "thank you. "

Ordered by phone the day prior, and just gave them my phone number as usual (it's how they identify you when you pick up, with no worries about duplicate or misspelled names.). Every time I've ordered in advance, our order has always been packed neatly and ready in a box for takeout. (My brother had brought a box just in case, and smoothly offered it to their staff for someone else's future order.) The restaurant has several tables for dining in, and markings on the floor for those waiting in line. It's brightly lit and clean as well. I appreciate their staff, food, service, and generous servings. They make us look so good with our potluck contributions! So what did we order? Half chicken katsu, half chicken wings, a small platter ($45 for the small pan, but picture a much loaded tray) - it's a great value deal! It was the same order our cousins loved when we brought it on Christmas Day (they especially love the wings, but we love the katsu-so this year we asked for half-half instead of all katsu, and they were so happy, ha ha!) Oh, and they give you a nice big container of yummy katsu sauce;)! I like their panko and cooking method, as whatever they do, the chicken is nice and crisp, and tasty - with, or without the sauce, actually. First time that I actually tried the wings, as I'm not a wing person. (I didn't even try it at Christmas, lol.). But, it was nice and crisp, lightly seasoned, and the wings had lots of meat on them. Easy finger food, and they were not dripping in oil, either, which I appreciated! Also ordered (for the first time) a small platter of chicken chow mein (a little over $30?). It was based on a good recommendation by an admittedly biased family member of the owners, and we were pleasantly surprised! The small pan was covered in wrap and then foil, because the mound of noodles was seriously kinda big! My brother was like, quick, go tell mom to come look before we open it (as she's picky, so it's hard to impress her). It was filled with lots of veggies (sliced carrots, cabbage, onions, etc) and bbq chicken pieces, tossed with great flavor (I want to say it was a nice sauce, but this wasn't a wet noodle dish.). My dad added Chinese mustard soy sauce, but my mom and I thought it was perfect the way it was. Oh, don't laugh, we're only a family of four, so yes, we ate two meals - lunch and dinner - and still packed a ton of leftovers! As we watched the game, we commented to each other what great choices we had made. (We also had sushi trays and other treats, and of course, chips, and my brother's dip. My brother said we may not have had a favorite team to cheer on today, but it was a great excuse for a party, ha ha!) I know we're doing a repeat for our next occasion, for sure! We'll gradually try some of their other foods, and it's farther away than we'd like to drive (I know, it's not that far, but we live on the other side, ok?). My brother agrees it's worth the drive - it's across Aloha Stadium and literally in the same spot as Ice Palace; and we saw quite the line at the Taco Bell drive through when we were looking for parking;). He also compared it to the cost and serving size of what we ordered on New Year's, from a restaurant much closer to where we live. Hands down, it was not even a close comparison, his emphasis added. So go here, it's perfect for family dinners and potlucks and I hope you agree with my assessment;)! Oops, I didn't take any pictures, aiya!!!

My ribs were dry and were far from falling off the bone. We got both the original and sweet bbq sauces. I liked the sweet better. It had a hint of spiciness to it. The baked beans had a nice flavor, but my two corn on the cobs were the best. They were super buttery and sweet. We also got a sweet tea $3.50 that came with free refills. It was super sweet. To assume all the food of the Philippines all taste the same would be to assume all food from China taste the same. That said, where this food draws its influence from is unlike mainstream Filipino flavors in Hawaii. For example, the pancit uses wide almost "Chinese" style alkali noodles stir fried in a dark soy sauce, a fermented seafood sauce, crispy garlic, colorful bell peppers, long beans topped with three well cooked, head and shell on shrimp and garnished with crab eggs, and chives. Tear off the head, squeeze out the head fat, squeeze the fresh lime wedge and mix into the pancit and it opens up a whole next level of seafood goodness. The chicken inasal is great eats. Beautifully marinated then grilled chicken hindquarter sat atop a bed of crispy shallot rice garnished with pickled cucumber. Shredding the chicken, mixing in the Chinese style ginger onion sauce, adding the accompanying soy based sauce and mixing all the pickles and rice together makes for one absolutely delicious concoction. Lots of other modern Filipino fusion dishes to try. Their version of mini lumpia bites are perfect for the meat lover, filled almost entirely with seasoned ground pork.
