M&M has been around for a long time and has delicious and very reasonably priced food. I love their BBQ chicken plate! Ordering from them on the phone is great. I call in and she asks what I want and I say the dishes and she says OK and that's it. No asking what my name is, no telling me when to come pick it up, just OK. I know from experience to show up in 10 or 15 mins and my food is ready!! Check out M&M next time you're in Aiea. It's far far better than L&L and it's a great little place to get a good local plate. I really like that they offer regular and small size options. I ordered the small, and it was plenty Actually, there wasn't really anything small about it. Big scoop of rice, scoop of mac salad, gravy covered hamburger patty and egg. No way did I need another scoop of rice or another egg. The rice was just right, warm and moist and so good with the gravy. Loco Moco gots to have good brown gravy, and this was as good as any I've had. But what was going to make or break this meal for me was the hamburger patty. And, I'm telling you, the hamburger patty here was the star of the show. Just exactly perfect. Flavorful, moist and just the right bite. The perfectly cooked over-easy egg on top sealed the deal. The mac salad was the way it is supposed to be. Which is to say, it's exactly how my mom made mac salad. It's so simple, so unpretentious, so delicious. My wife had the Katsu Chicken plate lunch, and I poached a few pieces. Absolutely delicious, perfectly crunchy. I thought it was kind of unlike any I had before because the pieces of chicken were kinda thick. Not that that's a bad thing. M&M is a place I would never have found without Yelp. A cool little hole in the wall that most visitors to the island would take one look at and keep driving. M&M has been a staple to most families in Aiea for years. I remember being in high school and going down there for juice and a snack, and they always had the best prices and they're the sweetest people ever. My brother would walk us over there when we were growing up and they never forget to ask how he's doing, even though he moved away years ago. My family used to go every Saturday morning for their $6 breakfast plates and tremendous service. Even though they're a small mom and pop shop they are always quick and get it right every time. The mom is up front and managing the front of house, while the husband is on the grill managing the back of house. They always give a generous amount of any breakfast meat you choose. And their eggs are always made perfect. Over easy eggs mixed up in the rice with shoyu and ketchup used to be our favorite way to eat it. I am so grateful and I hope that any time people head to Aiea Manapua they stop by M&M as well, not only are they affordable, they've always taken care of the families in the community. We both agreed that because of the affordable price and hugh servings, it was an OK deal, but I wouldn't go back again only because of the many restaurants all over the island with Great food. This place has been in business for over 25 years but I'm ashamed to say I've never been...until today! We went for lunch and ordered the mini fried chicken and the two choice combo plate with bbq chicken and garlic shrimp. With two fountain drinks, it was $20 with some change. Great value! The restaurant was small so it only seats a few people, the parking lot right outside of the restaurant is also limited, but is what you might expect for a hole in the wall place. They seem to be very generous with their portions and my mini plate had more than enough chicken. Especially since it was only $6! Overall I would give the service a definite 5 stars, price of food 5 stars, and the taste of the food 4 stars. The portions themselves are pretty generous as well, and I found the mini could easily stave off my mid-day hunger. The owner is very accommodating, and treats her customers with friendly care. Omg I remember this type of food from a long time ago. I wanted a hamburger steak plate with Teri beef. The lady kept asking me what else and I said beef curry. Well I had no idea that the plate would be this: Tons of rice on bottom, pour a ton of beef curry over that. On top of that layer teri beef with the sauce over that. On the side a scoop of macaroni salad. Then put your burger with gravy over that!!!! Uhhhh. Sorry but I just couldn't eat it. Everything was mixed together like mad. Now, when I fished out each selection by itself it was actually pretty tasty! The beef curry was pretty good with lots of meat. The obligatory carrot was in there as well - well cooked! The teri beef was tasty but tough. The hamburger was ok. I guess I never expected everything to be layered and therefore mixed together. I guess over the years I just grew out of this type of food. It's what it is, something from the past. For the people that never had this sort of food ever, try it I guess If you can finish a plate like this, more power to you! read more
