    Combo plate with poi
    Paul M.

We ordered takeout for lunch, got the Hawaiian combo plate with poi! Portions were good, and the laulau is super yummy! Very meaty and leaner than other laulaus yet still juicy. The laulau was my favorite! Chicken long rice and kalua pig were also great. Definitely will order from here again!

My friend wanted to meet up over local eats, and so when I looked places up that I haven't been to yet, I was drawn to Jackie's Diner because it's a longtime local establishment with some of Hawai'i's comfort food and staples. What got me intrigued was that it had lū'au ham hock on the menu, which I don't commonly see. The dish was nice and mellow, and not too salty like how ham hock can be. The waitress was very friendly and accommodating, checking on us every so often while we talked story to see if we needed water and asking us how we're doing. I enjoyed the casual atmosphere, and sitting at the booths to catch up. Mahalo Jackie's Diner!

Run to this spot if you can. Food is delicious and portions are generous. Service as amazing, its like eating a friends house. Great spot for lunch and parking is plentiful in the lot.

Jackie's has been my go-to for Hawaiian food for years. It's THE BEST. Both in value (how much food you get) and price. I love that their combination plate comes with everything you could want, and that they serve A LOT of meat. The meat in the laulau is super generous, and I took home lots of leftovers. Also taste-wise, it's sooo good, truly the best Hawaiian food on Oahu in my opinion! Service here is always top tier. The aunties make you feel like family. I also love that it's really clean and they have a decent bathroom in the back. There's plenty of booth seating which makes for a more comfortable dining experience.

    Chicken Wing Plate

My fiancé & I were in the area at the Best Buy across the street & thought we'd try Jackie's Diner out. We were hoping for a satisfying local meal, but overall, it was just very average. We ordered the chicken wing daily plate and the Loco Moco plate. While nothing was outright bad, the food lacked flavor, it felt like we needed to add salt just to bring the dishes to life. Everything was a little underwhelming. Service matched the food: not bad, but not great. The staff wasn't rude, but there was nothing particularly warm or attentive about the experience either. It just felt like they were going through the motions. Took my order to-go, even though I didn't dine in, I waited at a booth inside while my food was being prepared. The place looked clean, which was nice to see. The vibe was slow-paced and laid back, and they had some good island music playing in the background. There was nothing on the menu that excited me enough to want to return, especially after tasting what we did order. If you're in the area and need a quick bite, it's fine, but I wouldn't go out of my way or recommend it as a must visit.

I would say this is 4.5 stars! Helena was closed while we were there during the holidays so we found this place by accident. The kalua pork and lau lau with poi was delicious. We came back here twice since they are closed from Jan 1 - Jan 28 2026. Service was very friendly and will be back again when we're in an Oahu!

Older establishment located in Waimalu shopping Plaza. Locally owned, support local. Parking available but it may take a bit of time to locate a spot, cause the lot is shared with other businesses. Trust me, gonna be worth it. Service is great always greets us with a big smile and small kine talk story. Food. My sister always gets the steak and onion very tasty and soft. I got the Teriyaki chicken and Teriyaki salmon, sorry foodie here could not choose one. Real world problems of local girl. Both broke da mouth ono (tasty). If I had to choose one it would be Teriyaki Salmon. Highly recommended, go give um a try!! Won't disappoint great food, great service.

On a quest to find a good tasting Pasteles. My previous go to pastele shop was so disappointing I had find a new place to get my pastele fix. Decided to try Jackie's Diner. Well I got side tracked when looking at the menu I ended up getting the Laulau and tripe stew combo. I did got to try the pastele from my wife's plate. The tripe stew came with a few pieces of potato along with the trip. The gravy flavorful. tripe was tender. The Laulau was very good Love that there was a good amount of tasty fat. Back to the pastele. The combo comes with Bacalao salad (excellent ). One pastele (very good), Two scoops of gondule rice and mac salad. Our server Jaylen was provided great friendly service. When we excited the cooks gave me a thank you. Jackie's is smail which a few comfortable booths. Enjoy

Up date 8-20-25. Since our last place we bought the patele plate and wasnt up to par my husband said let's go here. I never had there patele plate before I only had their hawn kind food. I was so amazed when it came out was very good. The taste the rice and even the bacalao salad was good. My husband had he's tripe stew, lau lau, and poi. He said the lau lau was good even the fat on the pork and the luau leave had great taste. The tripe stew was good too. My uncle used to rave about the pateles now he's gone and he's not joking was good. The server Jaylin was friendly and also checking on us anything else she replied. Be back again

If you love... HAWAIIAN or PUERTO RICAN FOOD, come and check out JACKIE's DINER located in the Waimalu Shopping Center. The perfect little spot to enjoy... LOCAL comfort food that comes with LOCAL style service. The moment you step foot into this diner, you are welcomed and treated like 'ohana (family). These are my favorites that I enjoy here: PASTELE PLATE: it comes with 1 pastele (mild or hot), rice and beef or tripe stew. Both the pastele and beef stew are very tasty and delicious! SQUID LUAU (side): a good sized bowl that is so 'ono. The perfect amount of seasonings and the perfect amount of sweetness. Yum! So, if you are craving for local comfort food, go and check out JD. You'll thank me for that!

After a long day traveling, it was nice to eat some local food! I used to come here a lot when I was younger, so it's been awhile. I remember I absolutely loved the haupia here as a kid, so I just needed to get a little taste of everything again! I got the Combination Plate ($20.99), which consisted of lau lau, kalua pig, chicken long rice, haupia and rice! The lau lau was juicy and the kalua pig and chicken long rice were nicely seasoned. I found the kalua pig to be a tad bit dry to my liking and the noodles for the chicken long rice could have been cooked a little longer, but the lomi lomi salmon paired nicely with all the meats and rice that it gave a refreshing bite each time! The haupia tasted just as how I remembered, and I fell in love all over again to its sweet coconut flavor My dad got the squid luau and kalua pig cabbage. He has always been a big critique on where he goes to eat squid luau, but when he noticed it was on the menu, he had to try it for himself. The verdict?: he loved it! Interior was remodeled from the last time I was here and the staff were still friendly It was nice and clean inside and our waitress always made sure we were doing okay!

7-21-24 came for dinner after viewing a movie at Highlands. Usually we phone order and take out vs dining in. Looks like they painted the walls a teal, maroon with lavender trim and got new furniture. Even the menu, daily specials and boards are colorful and new with more variety of items. Noticed individual lighting for each booth area on the wall. Enjoyed the texture of their long rice and their Lomi salmon to me is better than H.I. In Waipahu. The ceiling fans kept the poi chilled- I debated whether to take it home to make poi cocktail like we did as kids with milk and add sugar. I showed the most willpower by giving hubs my haupia cuz it's my favorite part and it looked so white and a huge yummy square of goodness. They were advertising squid luau, daily specials and poke. Something to try next time. The 2 female servers were friendly and I could see one employee washing dishes, wiping the round tray and restacking the plastic cups.

Side note, the last time I ordered the stew/rice combo, it wasn't enough for the Mr, and since there was rice at home, he ordered the stew separate. I was in a meeting, and would enjoy my food after I was done. As I stepped out of my home office, I see hubs hardly at any stew, and I asked him if he was waiting for me to eat. He said no, and told me "if you want the stew, you can have it". Oh no, I know exactly what that means, so I offered him half of my pastele plate. He said no, and he looked bummed out. I knew I would need to reheat my plate, as it sat for 20 minutes before I got to eat it. While I was reheating my plate, I took a bite of his stew. I had to stop and look at the stew and it looked different. So I took another bite. The taste was ok (not like the amazing stew in the past), but the meat had a different texture. One more bite.....that's when I realized and then asked hubs, "Is that ground pork? Is that why it's different?" And he agreed, "that's what it is! ground pork!" The flavor was a bit off too, but the meat made all the difference. My reheated #5 plate was fine, a little bit salty, but just fine, no complaints. Finished up with the pastele lumpia, which was greasy (usually is unless its fresh) and asked hubs about the bill. Well, I understand inflation is a terrible thing for small businesses and consumers, but my jaw dropped when he said it was $50. And he wasn't a happy camper about the price or the stew. -Sigh- I don't give up easily on places I've enjoyed for years, so I will be back, eventually.

I like how they blended in cabbage, olives,. chunks of tomatoes and some other spices other than your basic carrot, potato, onion and celery in it. They gave a pretty big serving with two scoops of rice and watercress salad. Pastele - 3 stars - For $4 you can order the pastele ala carte. It's something I haven't eaten before, so I can't say if it's better or worse than other places, but it was something different to try - if you like spicy, it has a spicy after-bite to it. Goes well with the stew. My friend ordered the taco, and he said it was ok. However, I can't rate it since I didn't try it. Service - 5 stars - the man and woman were very friendly and answered my questions on what a pastele is, but more so because I didn't know what a pastele was or tasted like, he gave me a free sample to try, which is something not many lunch trucks would do. One of the guys that used to serve Pastele along with poke had decent Pastele, but his business was way sketchy. The dude would always "accidentally" miscount the money. He also inaccurately counted up the total of your order in his head. Not to mention his erasable white board was unreadable which made the prices even harder to determine. So don't go to that guy! Instead go to Kai's. Great prices (you don't have to worry about getting ripped off) and their Pastele ingredients are unique in texture. I'm really not even sure if they were made out of the traditional banana base. But i don't really care because they were just so awesome! They offer a a few different types Pastele with different types of meat all at different spice levels. Also several other peurto rican dishes which i still have yet to try are available. Next time I'm getting the seafood Pastele. I'm so bummed because they sold out the last time. I'm a huge fan of seafood and Pastele so when i saw it on the menu i just thought it was the coolest mix. Overall, I loved the experience and can't wait to come back to try the rest of their menu and more of their unique cocktails.
