Cory the owner part of the menu

Well what can I say about this place. Located in the back of the times Supermarket in waipahu and near the bus barn in a small strip mall sharing another business this place was there for 18 years according to the owner Cory. We ordered the patele plate with gandule rice and bacalao salad. The owner was very friendly talking stories and asking my husband I'm i he's girlfriend. Lol... he told him no she my wife. He ask how long we've been married Gabe said he don't really know. I told him about 42 yrs. Omg.. The patele was spicy even though I found 1 thai chili in it. The gandule rice was ok but tasted like clinatro and my fault didn't put the bakalao salad in the refrigerator when we came home. The toss greens were wilted. All in all will be back again.

I just found THE best Puerto Rican food in Waipahu!! Wat Get Kitchen is it! Hole in the wall food establishment in Waipahu near the bus depot. It's small and simple, no dine in but there is a small table outside the establishment if you want to eat it fresh or sit in your vehicle. The parking lot is small. Tbh, I was a little apprehensive because I LOVE a good pastele and pastele stew and did not want to be disappointed. I figured, what the heck. I ordered 2 pastele. No choice of mild or hot but it is PERFECT, not too mild...not too hot! It was simple but soooo good! My husband had the pastele stew with gandule rice and OMGeeeeee, I was caught by surprise because it was deliciousness!! The food was fresh! You can have the pastele hot or to take home and heat up yourself. We chose hot because we wanted to eat it right away. I am super stoke I can get pastele any time now and not go very fair! It's right down the road from Elena's! If you love this type of food and was on the hunt trying to find the right one, I advise you to go and try this place. Just once. You will not regret it.

We were craving pastele so we stopped by WAT GET?... kitchen (never tried them yet). You know it's gonna be ono when you see a customer holding 4 plates rushing to her car and telling us (while she's driving away) eh grab da "hapa plate" I've been coming here for 10 + yrs just for that... you won't regret it " she knew was our first time cause I was taking pictures of everything . We ended up getting ala carte pasteles and pastele stew. These were the best I've had, super ono. Need to go back to get the rest of the menu. Oh and the owner is the sweetest man too. Talking story about his furbabies and even told us how to reheat the pastele.

Again, I bit into it and then remembered the pic! Their take on an Empanada is this yum- Panadilla filled with their Pastele stew was OMG!

This place was out of the city in Waipahu but worth the drive! No dine in but you can either eat outside or order to go! The fresh Pastele Stew over Gandule Rice was super yum, the fresh Panadillas (their take on Empanadas) was doughy but a good doughy filled with their Pastele stew, it was divine! Of course that's us, you decide! Now, the Pastele's ... those were fresh, tasty and OMG! Everything was Fresh OMG yummy even had a Baklava Salad! Get there when they open, beat the rush cause they sell out fast, if you miss it, no worries Bianca will make you a batch just come back in an hour or call your order in! Ask for Cody or Bianca! Hey you can even mention to Bianca that Robertta from San Francisco sent you! Please leave them a well deserved tip!

Wat Get Kitchen serves their customers authentic food from Puerto Rico. The flavors of each item have their own identities, which gives your flavor pallet something to look for. The baccalao: fresh and crisp lettuce leaves topped with a tart (vinegarette like) dressing. Pastele: a lightly seasoned pork stew filled in a plantain masa steamed in a husk until soft. Gandule Rice: rice cooked with beans and pork gives a neutral and very light flavor. Bianca was very welcoming and friendly. She recommended I try their cheese panadillas, and experiencing how good the pasteles are, I'm coming back to try anything she recommends. Bright color scheme yet with a dark interior as you enter to the order window. It overlooks the entire kitchen where they create the awesome food. Payment Cash only Parking Private lot with 2 reserved stalls for wat get

Ultimate Pastele plate ~$19/20 (opt in or out of mac salad for more baculao salad)

I come here often for their amazing pastele plate and salad (if you like zesty flavor sauce for your salad, it'll be life changing).. made a review because no one is updating the menu prices for 2025 here.. Needing to know the price is important because it is CASH ONLY. Average price for main entrèes/ plates is roughly $20 for one person. Service is good. You're served by the owners.. Either Auntie or Uncle.. both always do their best to greet you properly and be professional with serving you're food in a timely manner. Best to do phone calls if you're a regular, wanting to get in n get out w/ you're food. If no one is in front/ no other customers are waiting.. food for two people would take about 15-20'minutes. No seating. No chairs or tables to sit. Only counter between kitchen and waiting/ordering area. You can see the kitchen and it's pretty pristine clean and all ingredients and equipment are reasonably placed/ put in proper containers. Stainless steel style with orange wall interior. Best thing to get as a first timer is ultimate pastele plate.. basically a sampler to have one of everything from here. It can be addicting ,so be aware haha..

    EMPANADILLAS

Oh baby these EMPANADILLAS are so good!!! We got a few different versions of it to try. As I was waiting for my order, I noticed a steady influx of customers all coming by to get their fix. I wish this place was closer to where I lived!

Been craving for some pasteles lately, so I went to Wat Get to satisfy that! Small shop that's take out and cash only. It's pretty straightforward with what they offer. Pastele, pastele stew, gandule rice, panadilla both savory and sweet. Bacalao salad with plantains gave the perfect level of acidity to the plate. The gandule rice underneath the pastele was too good. One ultimate plate costs about $25 if I remember correctly. There was only one lady working there when I went so a little patience will go a long way. I promise the food is worth the wait!

Haven't been here in a while. Decided to pick up dinner after work as my friend's dog just gave birth late last night. She likes this place because the food is not spicy. Personally, I feel it could use a bit of spiciness. The food here is very neutral, but sometimes it is a good thing. Love that it is a convenient location. Easy pick up via the Waikele exit. There are two reserved stalls for this establishment right in front. I called in my order so everything was neatly packed when I arrived and no wait. In the past, I would pop in & would be disappointed because they were sold out after standing in the hot Waipahu sun! Only downside is that I found out the panadillas are now cooked to order. In the past I would pick up a couple of the dessert type ones for my friend. I have yet to try them myself. I usually order the Hapa plate because it contains all three of my favorites items: pastele, gandule rice and bacalao salad. The salad is my favorite item from Wat Get Kitchen. The bacalao is nicely shredded and never overly salty. They even include a piece of the banana used to make the pastele. Love supporting this small business because it is one of three restaurants I know of that specializes in making pastele. Let me know if you all know of any other delicious pastele places besides in Aiea & Kalihi. I always rate & compare the pastele to the one my beloved Aunty from Kona made. Her's were top notch! It's a dying art so be sure to support. I forgot to take a pic, but saw a little sign that said chicken pastele stew now available...maybe next time! Btw, cash only and no dining area unless you count the small counter outside!

    Lisiate H.

Service was horrible. The lady had no customer service skills and wasn't helpful. Failed to engage and when asked questions about the meal she seemed too bothered to answered. Seen great things but total different story when I arrived!

A must stop any time we visit Hawaii! The food is amazing! We are here twice during our 5 day trip and probably would've ate here every day had they been open.

I've been dreaming about their Panadillo De Queso (cheesy empanada) and finally, I got to try! FYI, they only accept CASH. On their Yelp page it says they accept credit cards but they don't. ONLY CASH! Visited during the weekday so it wasn't busy, we were the only ones there. So I ordered my cheesy empanadas it was 2 for $5 then my husband realized they only accept cash, so he had to go run to the bank quickly. I had to reiterate cash only because I barely bring cash lol But oooooohhh, that cheesy empanada was sooo delicious!! It was cheesy and crunchy! I totally recommend, it's 10/10!

Simple order, #5…read moreone pastele (hot) and gandule rice, 1 small order of pastele stew, and 1 side order of bacalao salad, and 2 pastele lumpia. Hubs picked up the order and brought home lunch. Side note, the last time I ordered the stew/rice combo, it wasn't enough for the Mr, and since there was rice at home, he ordered the stew separate. I was in a meeting, and would enjoy my food after I was done. As I stepped out of my home office, I see hubs hardly at any stew, and I asked him if he was waiting for me to eat. He said no, and told me "if you want the stew, you can have it". Oh no, I know exactly what that means, so I offered him half of my pastele plate. He said no, and he looked bummed out. I knew I would need to reheat my plate, as it sat for 20 minutes before I got to eat it. While I was reheating my plate, I took a bite of his stew. I had to stop and look at the stew and it looked different. So I took another bite. The taste was ok (not like the amazing stew in the past), but the meat had a different texture. One more bite.....that's when I realized and then asked hubs, "Is that ground pork? Is that why it's different?" And he agreed, "that's what it is! ground pork!" The flavor was a bit off too, but the meat made all the difference. My reheated #5 plate was fine, a little bit salty, but just fine, no complaints. Finished up with the pastele lumpia, which was greasy (usually is unless its fresh) and asked hubs about the bill. Well, I understand inflation is a terrible thing for small businesses and consumers, but my jaw dropped when he said it was $50. And he wasn't a happy camper about the price or the stew. -Sigh- I don't give up easily on places I've enjoyed for years, so I will be back, eventually.

I guess I'm the first to review this truck because I couldn't find any other posting on Yelp: Pastele stew - 4 stars - For $7.50 plus 20 cents tax (yes, this truck is one of the few that the tax is not included in their price) it pretty much tasted like the stew I make, but they had more ingredients in it. I like how they blended in cabbage, olives,. chunks of tomatoes and some other spices other than your basic carrot, potato, onion and celery in it. They gave a pretty big serving with two scoops of rice and watercress salad. Pastele - 3 stars - For $4 you can order the pastele ala carte. It's something I haven't eaten before, so I can't say if it's better or worse than other places, but it was something different to try - if you like spicy, it has a spicy after-bite to it. Goes well with the stew. My friend ordered the taco, and he said it was ok. However, I can't rate it since I didn't try it. Service - 5 stars - the man and woman were very friendly and answered my questions on what a pastele is, but more so because I didn't know what a pastele was or tasted like, he gave me a free sample to try, which is something not many lunch trucks would do. They also sell tacos and burritos, but I have to go back to try those too before being a fan of the truck.

I've been to stops along the windward side, while heading down toward Koolau. There used to be (not sure if its still there) Pastele stops along the road. One of the guys that used to serve Pastele along with poke had decent Pastele, but his business was way sketchy. The dude would always "accidentally" miscount the money. He also inaccurately counted up the total of your order in his head. Not to mention his erasable white board was unreadable which made the prices even harder to determine. So don't go to that guy! Instead go to Kai's. Great prices (you don't have to worry about getting ripped off) and their Pastele ingredients are unique in texture. I'm really not even sure if they were made out of the traditional banana base. But i don't really care because they were just so awesome! They offer a a few different types Pastele with different types of meat all at different spice levels. Also several other peurto rican dishes which i still have yet to try are available. Next time I'm getting the seafood Pastele. I'm so bummed because they sold out the last time. I'm a huge fan of seafood and Pastele so when i saw it on the menu i just thought it was the coolest mix. (if you've never had poke with your Pastele you should def. give it a try)
