More expensive than other places, but it was on the bigger side. I thought the beef patty was really good, I've been searching for an authentic one ever since my trip to Jamaica years ago. It was spot on! Flavorful with a turmeric flaky crust. Sadly the beef and cheese barely had any cheese in it, was an extra $1. Service was nice and friendly. So the location isn't great with minimal parking in an industrial setting, although no indoor or outdoor seating is available this is purely for takeout food. I found the food to be both tasty and sufficient in quantity that the jerk beef and chicken plates could be shared with two people. I ordered the Jerk Chicken was nicely seasoned while very mild was both tender and juicy, came with a ton of rice and coleslaw or pickled vegetables. Also picked up a couple of Patties one Chicken again very mild, well filled from edge to edge in a crusty possibly corn pastry. The other patty was an "impossible" beef one that more suited to my preference for spicier food. Service was quick and efficient, the interior looked clean, the food was kept hot. Some items on the menu are only available on certain days such as the curried on Saturday, which I will be going back to try. For a quick grab and go place with a Jamacan twist, I would definitely recommend it especially the patties. What really sets Island Patty apart is their portion sizes! All I have to say is, brah! They don't hold back! The plate was hefty in the best way possible (my plate could have happily fed 2-3 people), and it felt like I was getting way more than what I paid for. I cannot tell you how happy I am that I found this little eatery. Located in beautiful Kaneohe, I asked for a recommendation, and the owner told me she would recommend the oxtail stew, and boy was she right! The meat was fall off the bone, tender, very well seasoned. It was paired with some dirty rice, some cabbage, and these little pillows of potatoes, almost like gnocchi. It's a takeout only place, so, I took my meal home to enjoy. I liked the Beef Patty a lot. It's kind of like an empanada, The crust was warm and flakey... Best to consume right away. The Jerk pork plate was ok. The sides that came with it: a coleslaw-type of salad and the flavored rice that had a few beans in it - were better than the jerk pork - because the pork chunks could have been more tender and flavorful. I had been looking forward to trying Island Patty since I first heard of them sometime last year. Unfortunately I'm not on the Windward side of the island very often. So when I found myself in the area on a Saturday afternoon the other weekend, I knew I had to try them even though I had dinner plans already within a few hours. In my over-excitement, I got a beef (thanks to the nice guy in front of me who gave up his beef so I could give it a try!), beef with cheese, and a jerk pork. Pricing for the patties ranged from $6.50 to $10, depending on your flavor/protein. I discovered after discussing with a friend who shares a love for Jamaican patties that price-wise, theirs is a bit on the higher end in comparison to other Jamaican patties on the island. However, I have not tried any other shops (yet!), so this doesn't mean too much as these patties were pretty big. I'm not sure as to the sizing of the other patties on island. Little did that guy know, the beef was the most unimpressive flavor. Also in my over-excitement, I started eating that beef patty before we even left the parking lot. It took several bites before I even got to the meat. And when I did get to the meat, it was pretty blah. There was no spice or flavor to the meat. The last beef patty I had, purchased from the frozen aisles at Sam's Club (haven't seen them there in YEARS) was a lot better. The patty was just slightly warm and the crust was not flaky at all. I tried the jerk pork and beef with cheese the next day, after reheating it in my toaster oven and although it was a lot better than the previous day's patty, it was still not enough for me to venture through the mountains for more. The jerk pork had slightly more flavor and since I re-heated it, the crust was more flaky than my previous patty. The beef with cheese had the most flavor, but I fear that the bulk of the flavor came from the cheese inside (probably American cheese). read more

Wow--we normally love oxtail but because it's Wednesday the stew wasn't available. Nevertheless, the owner was very generous about the portions. I loved the vinger flavor on the cabbage and my partner loved the homemade habanero spicy sauce (she even gave a little cute spoon with it!). It's hot and flavorful --which we added to the pork patty (also huge and delicious with some fatty portions). The spices were evident and just the right amount. The jerk chicken platter was also so big that with two people we couldn't finish all our food but we are definitely saving it for later. If you ever want to try Jamaican food, this is definitely a place to start--plus the service is incredibly kind. I love Jamaican food and I'm so glad there's a Jamaican restaurant in Kaneohe. It's located near Windward Mall on Alaloa Street in a small but elegant and vibrant place. The menu isn't huge but that is to their advantage. I had the jerk chicken plate and the meat was so soft that it fell off the bone. It's packed with spices and so is the rice, which also has beans in it. Hawaii people are known for being rice snobs but this place will make you reevaluate what you can do with simple white rice. The woman who cooked/served was very friendly and even offered some kind of hot sauce. She warned us that it would be spicy but we chanced it. The sauce was hot but delicious. I love this hidden jem, one of the few places on the island that makes and sells delicious Jamaican food. It's located in Kaneohe of all places in an unremarkable setting. The place is mostly for take out since there's little to no seating, but that won't stop the owners from treating you to a great cuisine with a smile. For those that aren't familiar with Jamaican food, there are three things to know when you go to Island Patty: 1. Jamaican food uses scotch bonnet peppers in their cuisine, similar to a Habanero, the fourth hottest chili pepper in the world unless they updated the information. If you cannot handle spicy, Jamaican food isn't for you. 2. They are packed with seasonings and not shy on flavor. Seriously, every bite you take of their food, whether it's jerk chicken or even one of their patties, bland isn't the word to describe their food. 3. At Island Patty at least, they don't skimp on portions. You're looking to pay bout $15/$20 per plate. But the amount of food they give you can easily take care of you for bout 2 days. And it's an explosion of flavor in your mouth. There I said it. One of the best hidden jems on the island that sells terrific Jamaican food and worth every cent. Street parking was available, too. I was kindly greeted and explained what was what. I ended up getting a chicken and pork plate as well as a chicken patty. Once I got home, I had my first bite. It took some self control to not eat the entire plate as I wanted to share some with my wife. It's a good thing that it was a heavy plate, definitely enough for 2 people. While Jamacian food is not widespread on the island, I wanted to share this new experience and flava.
