    Chicken over rice

First timer here and definitely won't be the last, I had the chicken over rice plate and it was great!

Saw this new food stand on social media and thought I'd give it a try. It's a little far for us tho since it's in Kailua, but I do love gyros. They're located in front of an apartment building (I think) or it looked like it. There is some tables to sit at if you wanted to eat there. It is also street parking only. Parking in Kailua is fun ... I thought going at 6pm would be the best but actually better around 630ish. When I arrived ... there was only two menu items left. The gyro was one and it was a 10 minute wait. I saw the cook taking it out of a bag to be heated on the cooktop as I got there. Pricing is pretty decent. The food is decent but not great to go out of my way for. It could use a little more veggies and sauce tho.

Got the lamb rice place. Was very tasty. For a fan of Halal Guys & Adele's in NYC, Naji Baba does a pretty good job. Their rice and falafel are . However, their lamb is on the drier side. It needs a lot of sauce. Ask for EXTRA white sauce. Too bad you have to buy it as a side. It's great their hot sauce is free. It's not too spicy. Very mild. Very nice owners!

Finally found what I've been searching for! This food truck is a gem, especially in an area where halal-style shaved meats over rice are practically non-existent. The food is exactly what I've been craving, generous portions, fresh ingredients, and packed with flavor. You can tell the owner takes pride in what he's serving; he seems like a genuinely good guy, friendly and welcoming. The meats are perfectly seasoned and shaved just right, laid over a bed of rice that soaks up all the flavor. Everything tastes fresh, not greasy or overly heavy. It's rare to find something this satisfying from a truck, but this one seriously delivers. Easily a 9.8 out of 10. I'll definitely be back, probably too often.

Bruhhhhhh so glad I work across the street. Amazing quality, quantity, flavor is on point. Definitely coming back....straight FIRE! Got the combo rice plate which comes with a drink for $14, worth every penny and the staff is so friendly

We happened to be in Kailua today and saw this cute turquoise food truck so we thought we'd check it out because the food smelled delicious. We're so glad we did. The staff is super friendly and the wait was short. We got the combination plate and the falafel sandwich which were both wonderful. Check it out if you're in the area. You won't be disappointed.

You simply walk up to the window, place your order, and within about 10 minutes you're handed a sandwich that's absolutely packed with fresh, vibrant vegetables and ingredients. Every sandwich I've had here has been stuffed, flavorful, and totally worth the price point. The service is also consistently amazing. It's always quick, friendly, and really personable, which makes the experience feel welcoming even though it's just a quick stop. This has become one of my favorite post-gym treats. There are a handful of outdoor tables nearby that make for really peaceful seating, even if you're just grabbing a bite alone and enjoying the Kailua breeze. Parking is easy too--you can park in the open lot within the shopping complex, or right across the street near the gym (which is usually where I end up parking). If you're in Kailua and want something fresh, quick, and satisfying, this little spot definitely hits the mark.

After looking through a couple of places I ultimately found Lilikoi Kitchen. This restaurant sits in a strip mall in Kailua and the inside can seat around 30 people. At the back of the restaurant is where you order and they have a touchscreen where you can do it without interacting with anyone. For lunch on this day I ultimately went with the Lilikoi chicken farm salad while my dad went with the LK's fish sandwich. The menu described my meal as mixed greens, tomato, cucumbers, shaved carrots, house torn croutons, lilikoi vinaigrette, and griddled chicken, and my dad's as sriracha aioli, pickled cucumber, American cheese, spring mix, and a brioche roll. While I normally don't order a salad out, I am glad that I did here. My chicken ended up being cooked nicely and I liked the flavor of the spices on it. All of the vegetables felt fresh and I appreciated having something healthy and green, which I often find difficult to get in Hawaii. The croutons added a nice texture to the salad and I absolutely loved the dressing. It was creamy with a good lilikoi flavor without being overly punchy or sweet. If I had one complaint it would be that I wish my salad had been dressed with more of it. My father also enjoyed his fish sandwich and liked the greens that came on his plate as well. The bottom line for me is that I would head back here again in the future. Both my dad and I enjoyed our meals and I like that it was filling but still felt healthy.

Despite the fact that it's a considerably trek for city-dwellers, factoring either traffic or bus schedules into the equation, or both if you're particularly unlucky, it's a journey always worth taking. Hit Hanauma Bay along the way and make it a day trip; the only way to top those dazzling sights is to follow them with a stellar meal. Boasting a menu composed of locally-sourced produce and entirely vegan options, you'll want to take a number of friends for the best experience. Heck, get out there and make some new friends! Join one of the long communal picnic tables out back and introduce yourself; there are no friendlier folks on earth than those living in paradise, as far as I've seen. That said, if there was only one dish to order, it would have to be the Oh WOW Laulau. Wow, indeed! No where else on earth have I found vegan laulau, let alone such a stellar rendition. Traditionally consisting of fatty pork and/or fish steamed in taro leaves, this version eschews the meat in favor of hearty root vegetables, adding creamy coconut into the mix for richness. Not to be overlooked is the Tofu Poke provided on the side, claiming to be spicy but really bearing just enough warmth to taste perfectly balanced. This was easily my personal favorite from the small sampling of dishes provided, but it's a close call when all the options are so good. Another front runner is the BBQ Portobello Sandwich. Mushrooms marinated in a bright, smoky barbecue sauce practically sing between two whole wheat buns. Coconut slaw tops off the assemblage with just the right amount of subtle sweetness to contrast the deeply savory flavors within. Simpler but no less spectacular dishes include the Roasted Veg Platter and Roasted Veg Avocado Sandwich. The way that the vegetables are treated with respect, from the moment they're harvested from nearby farms to the care taken when they reach the kitchen is evident with every bite. Cooked with care and proffered generously with each serving, even the basics make the trek out here worthwhile. I'm still trying to recreate that impossibly umami gravy offered on the side. It's one of those things that are so astoundingly, inconceivably delicious, it's impossible to deconstruct. Each entree promises an ideal amount of food; satisfying diners without over-stuffing them. That said, you'll still want to make room for dessert, especially when you see the towering bowls full of Outta This Swirled Soft Serve. Cool, naturally sweet spirals of banana-based soft serve are dressed to the nines with cacao sauce that hardens much like magic shell, granola and coconut flakes tumbling down the mountainous terrain, and fresh fruits that vary based on local availability- Expect papaya always to be in ample supply, based on the thriving papaya trees on premise. Each order is abundant enough to be a considered a full meal in and of itself.
