Chuns Breakfast Bomber
Ayse T.

Before starting a day at the beach, Kono's definitely starts it off well with a good cup of coffee and bomber. The burrito is always full of delicious eggs, cheese and potatoes. Specifically got the chun which had the Kahlúa pork and bacon. The bacon was super delicious. It always comes with a side of salsa and I definitely recommend trying it both ways. It does give it a nice extra flavor with the salsa. They only have in-house coffee, but it has a nice yummy macadamia nut taste that made the coffee taste extra yummy. Service was great and if you're feeling ambitious enough, you can get a tattoo of the surfer pig to get 25% off. It is a great go to spot for starting your day off right with a good meal and coffee before chilling on the beach.

It's been awhile since I've last been to kono's in Kailua. I don't recall what I had as the last visit was just after the pandemic was over. They have three other locations on the Isle: Kapahulu, Waikiki, and Haleiwa. Their breakfast burritos are called Bombers and I requested the Haleiwa Bomber for takeaway, which consists of Kalua pork, eggs, potatoes, and cheddar/ Monterey Jack cheese blend. Every Bomber has the smoked, shredded pork. How can you not have their Kalua pig in some iteration...fantastic. For $16 it was a hunger bomb of the best kind. Breakfast, brunch, or lunch...an excellent option to order. It was around 1000a ; so there were only guys ordering takeout. I was watching the NFL on my phone but the wait time could not have been more that 12 minutes. Street parking and in the back...on the Mauka end of Hekilli. Also, parking in the Kailua Town Center Lot...which is where I parked after doing some shopping.

It was the best day for everyone but probably because right after they charged me for my breakfast burrito the electricity went out.... so I feel like I truly can give a full review. But I will say the staff was so kind and they tried their best with what they had previously prepared. The burrito was good but way too much sour cream and I got it loaded and added the pork and it was hard to find. I know from others that have eaten here that is is super yummy and I trust that! So 4 stars for the wonderful service and trying so hard to give me my order!!!

Pumpkin spice milk shake - if you like pumpkin spice anything, definitely try this!

After a not so good experience at Waikiki location, I was apprehensive to go back to Kono's. However, glad I gave it a second try at Kailua. It was fairly dead on a Monday night - 530p. Service was good. Tried their veggie wrap, which was actually pretty good. Fresh ingredients and the dressing went well with it. The pork quesadilla was good also. Flavorful and juicy. The sour cream was a good compliment. The highlight of our meal was the pumpkin spice milkshake. Yea it's seasonal, so if you're into anything pumpkin spice or love fall flavors, definitely try it out!

This was such a fantastic burrito - chocked full of bacon and eggs - absolutely amazing!! The service was extremely slow, but it was because there was only one person staffed. Felt bad for the one server - absolutely must have two people minimum to me!

Hubby and I stopped in for lunch after a morning at nearby Kailua Beach and had a nice lunch at Kono's. We split the pork plate which included their 12-hour roasted pork, rice, mac salad, and green salad. We loved how tender the meat was, and especially loved both the guava BBQ sauce and papaya dressing. The shop is fairly small, however we were able to find seats. The girl at the counter was very friendly. Unfortunately they were too backed up with orders so shortly after our arrival was placed they had to temporarily stop taking orders. Too bad because we enjoyed our lunch. There's plenty of parking either along the street or a lot a few doors down. Would return.

Fantastic delicious Pulled Pork is by far their signature dish here! Unfortunately their short weekend staffing makes the wait not so great. The beautiful and friendly receptionist, cashier & cook? Forgot my avocado on my Chuns Breakfast Burrito & the Guava BBQ on the Pulled Pork Quesadilla! However, upon my return, she fixed it! Love their pulled pork burritos here! Supper yummy! Tip: Call or order aged on line and REMIND them upon pickup what extra ingredients you requested are in fact, in your order! Because you are paying for it! Great food! A bit pricy, but worth every bite! Yummy in my tummy!

Kono's hit sooo good after our hike ‍ We got one of the breakfast burritos with pulled pork and bacon and omg--PERFECTION. The pork was super flavorful, the bacon was crispy, and everything was just wrapped up in that warm tortilla like a little hug. Definitely shareable if you're not starving but just need a solid pick-me-up. It was exactly what we needed after hiking--hearty but not too heavy, and just so satisfying. Honestly, I'd come back just for that burrito alone

6/24/25 Getting set to grab my burrito
Kathy R.

After a recent group walk, one of the members brought some breakfast burritos from the Kailua location. I had never been there nor eaten food from there so was looking forward to trying it. There were vegetarian ones and the only one with meat was the chorizo so I opted for chorizo. First thing you notice before unwrapping the burrito is how heavy it is & once you unwrap it, my reaction was WOW - that's a huge, thick burrito! Had to sit there a couple of minutes to figure out how to eat it because of the thickness. Decided to cut it in half with the only "knife" available, a wooden coffee stir stick. Besides the chorizo, this burrito is packed with egg, bacon, and cheese, along with salsa sauce on the side. It didn't taste bad but for me, the chorizo had too much of the smokey flavor for my liking. Because of the size of the burrito, I ended up eating just half. Later on, I had perused their menu online and saw they had quite an extensive menu including plates, wraps, sandwiches, smoothies, and milkshakes. So even though my burrito was ok, I would still try this place again for some of their other menu items.

North shore staple! Got the old school Kahlúa pig and lava float after reading the reviews and it didn't disappoint. I did a to go order and it wasn't that busy so the service was fast!

Triple Crown Sandwich

I got the triple crown sandwich and it was packed and delicious. Special shoutout because the bread was soft enough that it did not cut the roof of your mouth - huge. The sandwich was full of the works and very filling. No complaints.

Stale tortillas and overly salted food. Keep walking and go order at Nalu if you're in the area.

Do you have any gluten free options?

Aloha! Yes we do. Our pork is gluten-free (without the Guava bbq). I recommend the “Pig on Grass” just don’t use the BBQ sauce. Other than that we can make any Bomber… Read more

We have outside benches at the Kailua location that many people sit & eat on with their dogs.

Across from bowling alley and whole foods, next door to Napa

This was probably my favorite meal during my whole trip. I'm writing this review late, and can tell…read moreyou that even though it's been a year, I still think about the food we got from here, more than I'd like to admit. Adela's is a small, take-out order only place, but extremely busy. We phoned in the order ahead of time and the wait time was about 45 mins. We got the Sweet Potato Noodles with Garlic Butter and Lechon. Gracious, it was delicious. Worth every penny. The lechon was crispy, tender, and flavorful. The noodles had the perfect texture and paired flawlessly with the garlic butter. We also got Okinawan Sweet Potato Poi Bread, but this unfortunately was blown out of the water by the noodles. I would not order the bread again, but would instead order 2 plates of food for myself, diets be damned. Easiest 5/5 of my life.

Knowing this place from my friend and she insisted that I should definitely give it a try…read more Fortunately she suggested me to call and pre-order to avoid long wait. They indeed seemed to be very popular as I could see how busy the place was when we picked up ours. It's also a to-go concept only so we enjoyed our pasta at the bench right next to the venue. The pasta was organic and all homemade from peculiar natural ingredients including moringa, taro, sweet potato, bread fruit, avocado, and local saimin. The one serving us was so nice and attentive, which indeed seemed to be needed here given how rich selections they offered. You got the option to pick your own choice of pasta, sauce, and protein or went for their combo. We opted for the latter as we got their Lechon Malunggay Pasta, which was Moringa pasta with roasted pork belly. Portion was HUGEEE and certainly shareable unless your appetite was so big. Meat to pasta ratio was also super general. The pork was cooked to perfection with flawlessly crispy skin yet juicy meat. The pasta came in just the right texture and was already flavorful on its own. You could pick spiciness level for which we took mild and we thought we should've gone for spicy. We also got Ube cheesecake for dessert that was also gigantic LOL. We finished it finally after multiple servings and it was still so good despite kept in fridge overnight. Dense yet not overwhelming and the ube flavor was so strong and I could tell it used real ube. This place was seriously MUST GO!
