    Salmon Poke nigiri

Local Boy Sushi in Kailua has the same level of excellence that can be expected of their original location in Kaneohe. Food is delicious, and service is great! This Kailua location is a small shop in a large shopping area, but there's space for dining in. Takeout is common as well. There are a number of shared parking lots. The food is all great! I catered 200 bentos from them for a birthday party this summer. I worked with one of the owners ahead of time to give plenty time to look over what's available and to figure out pricing. The sushi is super fresh. I especially like the smoked salmon! I recently got a LBS Combo that comes with 18 pieces of sushi for $25. You're not gonna find that kind of pricing anywhere nowadays - less than $1.50/piece. Local Boy Sushi is Native Hawaiian-owned, local-owned, and Christian-owned (if any of that is meaningful to you)!

Classic poke spot with average prices. Quick service! I got the spicy ahi with half lettuce & half rice. I wish there was more sauce as it was kind of dry. It was good & classic Hawaiian poke but nothing special. Limited outdoor and indoor seating. Inside is clean, convenient parking at Whole Foods. EDIT: I got food poisoning from the poke here. I haven't seen reviews for Local Boy with the shared experience, so maybe it was an off day. But unfortunate.

I was at Ulta picking up some makeup and wanted to give this place a try. I love poke bowls and they're kind of hard to mess up. I got a Lava Bowl (spicy ahi with shrimp tempura, sweet chili & unagi sauce, avocado, sesame seeds) $14. The bowl was very good for the most part. I love the sweet chili and unagi sauce together. I could tell that the ahi was fresh. They only use fresh caught local ahi. The shrimp tempura was cut up into tiny pieces and there weren't a lot of it. They only use genjimai brown rice, which is a healthy option that I can appreciate. You can choose the brown rice, local greens or do half and half. After I got my bowl, the cashier told me that I could help myself to a free drink. The drink comes with the poke bowl. What a nice surprise. I got my ginger ale and headed out.

Brunch from Kailua, Oahu, Hawaii... I was actually trying to patronize another business on this street, but it wasn't open when it was supposed to be. Luckily, I had seen the sign for Local Boy Sushi and remembered that the original location is in Kaneohe. I walked over and entered the clean, cozy, air-conditioned space. Wow... this Local Boy Sushi is way better than the Kaneohe location... which is just a window... and customers wait on the sidewalk for their orders. This Kailua restaurant has several tables (and chairs) for dining in... and even has cute wall murals and other decor. Soothing music was playing in the background! I ordered an LBS special bowl which comes with 3 choices and a complimentary soft drink. I chose salmon poke, smoked meat, and unagi. It was Yummy! I helped myself to Raspberry iced tea from the self-service station. I also got another special: Kalbi kimbap. It was a bit salty for me. The torched garlic hamachi was so delicious that I ate it (all) right there instead of taking it home. The fragrance was very enticing! Overall, it was a wonderful experience! Tip: pay with cash to avoid credit card fee

Great, fresh food- decent service. Small inside with a few additions tables outside. Really loved all our food though!

Incredibly fresh fish and very good rolls for the price! I ordered a variety of rolls but I felt a lot of them tasted very similar. Nothing really stood out as a distinct roll so that's my only knock, that nothing was really unique. The location is minor inconvenience to get to because you have to park around the grocery store on the back size walk around but it's too bad of a walk; just want the average person to be aware. The food is excellent but nothing felt special. It's definitely a reliable place to visit though because the staff is kind. The decor felt industrial, almost exactly like how the inside of a Chipotle look. I forgot I was in Hawaii until I stepped back outside.

The good: friendliness The bad: 1. The size of the bowl: way too small. I was still hungry. I would prefer a larger portion without a drink included. 2. The tip default on the pay screen was about 20% which I got charged when I clicked Skip. I know there's disagreement on whether or how much to tip but I don't tip that much for counter service. The okay: The smoked salmon bowl was something different and exciting, but it didn't stand out as something I would return for, even if the portion had been larger. Also, I would remove the corn from the mixture.

Ok sushi, nothing to go crazy for. Price is good. The setting is more like a fast food place (order on a tablet, wait for your name to be called for pick up at the counter), except it's not fast food. I waited for 45 mins each time (I went twice) and the guys making the food seemed very stressed each time, apologizing profusely for the wait, but the wait is the same every time. If you want a quick bite of fish, go to Tamura's or Shima's for the same quality but a fraction of the wait time.

The *best* poke salad I ate on my trip to Oahu came from Local Boy Sushi. It's been a month since my trip and I still think about it all the time. I ordered the spicy ahi tuna and spicy salmon lbs bowl with avocado and absolutely loved it. The flavor was incredible! I was satisfied by the lbs bowl, but recommend the big braddah bowl if you're hungry!

Wanted something that we could eat at the beach so stopped here before going to Kailua Beach. Although they were busy they were hustling to get our food out timely. Great portion size, fresh ingredients and great service. There's lots of parking in back.

Lava Bowl & 5pc Spicy Ahi

I may be getting old ... but they bumping the music way too loud up in this B. I was insanely overstimulated and ended up rushing to leave - can't say it was an enjoyable lunch break That said, I ordered the Lava Bowl ($14) which is spicy ahi with shrimp tempura pieces over brown rice with avocado and unagi sauce on top - comes with a drink I knew that wouldn't be enough so I asked for a recommendation for an add on, and the young sir behind the counter suggested the 5pc spicy ahi nigiri ($8?) It was fine.

I always make it a point to try their special dinner offerings, and so far, I haven't been disappointed. Tonight was a 3 course offering, with an Amuse to start. We also ordered the Korean short rib stuffed ravioli as an additional appetizer. My 2 year old granddaughter absolutely loved it, and ate almost a third of the dish herself. The dinner offered a choice of one of 2 appetizers, and 3 entrees; of which we all chose the Scallop apps, with my daughter and I selecting the Surf and Turf, and my SIL, the Prime rib. The only hiccup was that my daughter's filet mignon initially came out 'blue' rare, rather than mid-rare, so we sent it back to be refired. Everything else was excellent. Service was great, as always, with all hands on deck for the busiest restaurant day of the year. I'm always looking forward to their next special dining event.

The portion was generous, served with soba noodles and plenty of fresh veggies, making it a a refreshing dish. I also tried some of my boyfriend's braised beef short rib, which was delicious--super tender, and the creamy polenta was cheesy and full of flavor. For dessert, we had halo halo, which was such a fun and tasty treat! It was a strawberry mango shave ice with a variety of toppings and textures.
