Excellent food!! We ordered the short rib ramen, tonkatsu, yakisoba, chicken Katsu ramen, fried rice, and gyoza and everything was delicious!!! Short rib broth was complex and seasoned perfectly, meat was tender and flavorful, and noodles were great quality and very bouncy. Would absolutely come back, highly recommend

Excellent waitress and the environment is very relaxing with chill music playing in the background. Love the food and the place feels like home. Highly recommend!

Lunch in Kailua, O'ahu, Hawai'i... Sunset Noodle House is a relatively new business that kept popping up on my Yelp app feed. I asked my friend, Donna O., if she'd like to join me... thanks, Donna! Parking is free behind the building. I parked by Longs Drugs Store and walked around to the street side of the building where the entrance is. Inside, the shop was cozy, clean, and simple. We met early to beat the crowd, so we had our choice of where to sit. We both ordered the Combination even though there's a Holiday Special Menu with 15 percent off. I chose the Shrimp Cha Siu Miso Ramen with Spring Rolls and Shrimp Tempura. Everything was tasty and beautifully presented! (Thinking back, I should have gotten the gyoza... next time!) Service was efficient by one guy. He did everything from placing a water pitcher and two cups on our table... to serving our meals and cashing us out. Wow... he's a good worker!

Food 5/5 The short rib ramen was good but you only get one piece of short rib Service 3/5 The server didn't check on us and took awhile to bring out the bill after we finished eating

Influencer content is NOT a food review. It's pre-scripted propaganda. Show me someone who has anything bad to say about free food. Until then... And I fell for it. The noodles, great. Well made. Well cooked. The tonkotsu base, well extracted, clean, but slightly one dimensional. More aromatics would add to the complexity. Still, solid and not too salty. Hold that thought. The problem, the toppings. Why is everything so seasoned? Why are there so many different flavors? Why is there no consistent background flavor to tie them together? The big bone rib is tender but taste like it was simmered in a light, sweet soy with ginger. The chashu, also deeply seasoned then charred to a bitter finish. The menma (fermented bamboo shoots) taste like li hing mui. And then there is the ajitama egg. It is so salty like it was soaked in a super saturated solution of salt water instead of sweet soy. Push it into the broth and everything becomes inedible. Shhhh, I poured in an entire cup of water into my bowl to make it bearable. (Wasting food in a time when so many Americans are suffering just feels wrong). Ramen in Japan is about two things, the noodles and the broth. Everything else is a foil. Sunset Noodle reverses that which is too bad because their basics are good. 2.5 rounded up.

Sunset Noodle House is a neighborhood ramen shop in the heart of Kailua town. It's a small menu. A few heat and serve appetizers like arabiki sausages and shrimp tempura; a few rice dishes like a katsu don and char siu don; then some ramens. Their broths include a tonkotsu, a shoyu, a miso, and a vegetarian. Sunset promotes a bone in short rib as their specialty ramen. The short rib is tender enough with very light seasoning. It's served with a shoyu broth, wood ear, menma, bean sprouts, nori, green onion, and egg. When you don't feel like cooking, head to Sunset for a quick, casual meal.

First time here. I've been to this location, but it was a different restaurant. I went with the comboination with Tonkotsu ramen and fried gyoza. Service was fast and friendly. Prices were reasonable for the combo. The restaurant was clean and liked newly done. Very satisfied with this place.

Chicken karage. I'll get the sauce on the side next time.

Great selection and quality noodles and good flavor. The ribs are hit or miss because my buddy got a meaty one and the one I got didn't have much meat. The chicken karage was pretty good too so I look forward to bringing my family back.

Yummy! So glad they have a vegetarian option and it was very reasonably priced. Broth was tasty and not overly salty. They included plenty of vegetables. You also have the option to add eggs, veggies, and others for an additional cost. Plus there's an option for thick or thin noodles. Our server was super sweet. I would definitely come back here.

Got their special popular ramen with a beef bone!! I'm so glad we were able to give this spot a try. We also saw they were getting interviewed by television! This was pretty the best ramen we've had. The broth was super flavorful and had so much depth and clarity. The meat was tender and the noodles was also bouncy.

House Short rib ramen $20.99 - The short rib was smaller than pictured, but it was dang Ono and super filling. Great broth

Decided to check out Sunset Noodle House in Kailua for dinner. We ordered the following Mixed Vegetables Tempura $9.99 - Was a little too crispy but was good and that sauce was Ono. House Short rib ramen with thin noodles $20.99 - The short rib was smaller that pictured but it was dang Ono and super filling. The broth was off da hook Ono kine. Chicken katsu Ramen with thin noodles $15.99 - This wasn't the typical chicken katsu where you get more breading than chicken. It was full of flavor and very tender. Different broth but was Ono as well. The place is clean and well lit. Customer service was on point and he was super friendly. One waiter for the night and he did well. Definitely will go back and I want to try their Takoyaki and maybe borrow one of their water cups. Sooo pretty

Food was amazing! Ramen, edamame was outstanding! A perfect stop after a long hike. Parking in garage behind restaurant made it easy to park.

the broth wasn't flavorful and the noodles were just okay. they both tasted like the packet ones from sun noodles that you can buy in the store at don quijote. i wouldn't go back, but the service was good even though there was one server and she was very busy. i wouldn't rather just make it at home. the chasu was probably the best part, thick, charred, but it was actually served cold on the side of the bowl. not sure if that was meant to be that way. they do have weekday specials , so we got two bowls of the tonkotsu. again, not full body and definitely not pork forward. it was extremely salty.

My cousin's two kids love this place and insisted it has the best fried rice. I'm usually not a big fried rice person, but I was curious and tried it. I can see why people like it. I ordered the shrimp katsu ramen with a shoyu egg. The broth and noodles were excellent and really the highlight of the dish. I wasn't a huge fan of the shrimp katsu on its own since it was a bit chewy, but once it soaked in the broth, it was much better. The portion size was just right, filling without being too much. Overall, a solid ramen spot, especially if you're already in Kailua.

There were fly traps hanging from the ceiling, which was quite unpleasant to see while trying to eat. Strangely, the staff was mopping the floor right next to occupied tables during a busy late-night rush. The menus also smelled like a dirty bathroom; I couldn't hold mine for more than a minute without gagging. While the staff was quick and the food came out fast, the kitchen was disorganized. They forgot our miso soup and brought out edamame instead of the menma (bamboo shoots) we ordered. We had the gomoku ramen, spicy beef ramen, gyoza, lemon tea, a side of menma, and shrimp tempura udon. The gyoza and lemon tea were delicious, but they couldn't outweigh the negatives. According to my family, two out of the three soups tasted like dish soap. We were too exhausted after work to send them back, but it was honestly gross. To top it off, the single-stall unisex bathroom had that same foul odor. I wouldn't recommend Daiichi Ramen. Serving 'dish soap soup' is unacceptable in food service. You're better off heading to the nearby Burger King or Safeway for late-night eats.
