This place was great. We were seated right away. It's a smaller restaurant. But it appeared to be very clean and bright. I had the chicken katsu ramen and I love that they serve the chicken on the side so it doesn't get soggy. You get to choose between thin or thick noodle. I got the thick noodles and it was tasty. The broth, veggies and egg were also very good. We also got an order of the karaage chicken. It was good. I think next time I'd opt for the topping on the side. I believe it was some type of egg salad? I could be wrong. It was good. But a little too much for my liking as a topping. I ordered the tonkatsu ramen and my wife ordered the Tan Tan a spicy broth with an ajitama egg( yolk was a little too firm) but noodles weee cooked to al dente. my broth was decent with good depth of flavor. The pork was delicious, I'll be in a little thin, didn't look like the photo in the menu. But nevertheless, it had a good char and tasted great. Service was very good and the food came out very quickly. I also ordered their new special fried chicken, which is very tasty. Very Chinese style heavy in Chinese five spice. Lunch in Kailua, O'ahu, Hawai'i... Sunset Noodle House is a relatively new business that kept popping up on my Yelp app feed. I asked my friend, Donna O., if she'd like to join me... thanks, Donna! Parking is free behind the building. I parked by Longs Drugs Store and walked around to the street side of the building where the entrance is. Inside, the shop was cozy, clean, and simple. We met early to beat the crowd, so we had our choice of where to sit. We both ordered the Combination even though there's a Holiday Special Menu with 15 percent off. I chose the Shrimp Cha Siu Miso Ramen with Spring Rolls and Shrimp Tempura. Everything was tasty and beautifully presented! (Thinking back, I should have gotten the gyoza... next time!) Influencer content is NOT a food review. It's pre-scripted propaganda. Show me someone who has anything bad to say about free food. Until then... And I fell for it. The noodles, great. Well made. Well cooked. The tonkotsu base, well extracted, clean, but slightly one dimensional. More aromatics would add to the complexity. Still, solid and not too salty. Hold that thought. The problem, the toppings. Why is everything so seasoned? Why are there so many different flavors? Why is there no consistent background flavor to tie them together? The big bone rib is tender but taste like it was simmered in a light, sweet soy with ginger. The chashu, also deeply seasoned then charred to a bitter finish. The menma (fermented bamboo shoots) taste like li hing mui. And then there is the ajitama egg. It is so salty like it was soaked in a super saturated solution of salt water instead of sweet soy. Push it into the broth and everything becomes inedible. Shhhh, I poured in an entire cup of water into my bowl to make it bearable. (Wasting food in a time when so many Americans are suffering just feels wrong). Ramen in Japan is about two things, the noodles and the broth. Everything else is a foil. House Short rib ramen with thin noodles $20.99 - The short rib was smaller that pictured but it was dang Ono and super filling. The broth was off da hook Ono kine. Chicken katsu Ramen with thin noodles $15.99 - This wasn't the typical chicken katsu where you get more breading than chicken. It was full of flavor and very tender. Different broth but was Ono as well. The place is clean and well lit. Customer service was on point and he was super friendly. One waiter for the night and he did well. Took the family out to lanikai beach on a beautiful Sunday afternoon and we had a sudden craving for some ramen. A perfect combination right after all that swimming. My wife found this new spot that was in the middle of Kailua town. This place just opened a few days ago and it's in a prime spot and on a main road with lots of parking behind. It's a nice little spot and everything on the menu looks so good! I personally wanted to order the house short rib ramen but wasn't sure if I could finish so I opted for the tan tan ramen and I definitely wasn't disappointed. The pieces of char siu are huge! So soft and fatty. And also my kids had the house special tonkotsu ramen combo with deep fried gyoza. Also my wife recommends the unagi rice and gyoza combo. It's a perfectly seasoned unagi on a bed of fluffy egg and rice. The service was great and welcoming. Got seated as soon as we walked in and ordered in minutes. My boyfriend and I thought we would try this new place out. I has the TanTan with the beef bone (great choice, it had delicious flavor and was fall off da bone) and did spice level 1. My BF got the TanTan original w/ spice level 1. The char su pieces were crispy, it was different, but really ono, We both like the broth, it was tasty, but we wish there was a bit more broth, to even out the noodle to broth ratio. Why I didn't give all stars: My Bf originally wanted to order the chicken Katsu ramen but they were out of chicken. I ask for no bamboo shoots (some canned brands taste off to me) they forgot and added it to my ramen. I decided to try it, they tasted like it was soaked in soy sauce, it was salty. A group of us were in Kailua for a girl date and decided to pop into SNH. (Worst decision ever) waitress brought out an appetizer after we decided to only get one..then few bites into my ramen, I thought I was chewing on a crunchy noodle (my first time having ramen, so I didn't know) but I was chewing on a staple! Like a thin wire piece and swallowed most of it but left a piece to show waitress, (who smelled like cigarette smoke) Thought they would comp the meal bc that's what the right thing to do would have been but tbey took off the 3 sodas off the meal. I seriously dont do much of these reviews on any apps, but this place is different. I ate the jumbo spicy seafood ramen which the soup base of tonkotsu(pork bone and chicken. First i thought it will not match the flavor of pork and seafood, but it was very different from a thought to a taste. The pairing of seafood, pork bone soup, and spiciness had good vibe to my mouth. Also I had to try the Tan Tan, so i asked my wife to order since we both like spiciness. When i tasted the soup this was on my hang over ramen(also able to pick level of spiciness)!!! People of Kailua, a great ramen restaurant is hiding right under your noses! Being from Kailua, it sucks to have to drive all the way to town to get my ramen fix, that won't be a problem anymore. I was drawn to the seafood ramen due to the vast amount of seafood they give, it's not just in the picture guys that's what it actually looks like. The lobster was the highlight of this ramen, it was small but super sweet. I was a little disappointed by the seafood broth, but this was more than made up by their tonkotsu broth....WOWZA! The soup was milky whitish-yellow and upon first sip you get a punch of pork. This is what you expect from a good tonkotsu broth. After the hit of pork there are subtler notes of mushroom. It was topped by jammy shoyu egg, soy soaked takenoko, wood ear mushroom, and crispy char sui. I would order the tonkotsu again and for $16.00, thats a steallll. Oh and don't sleep on their gyoza, it was good. Will try tan tan next time read more

I am from Japan and I never ate a curry that has Ao nori flakes on top, soup spoon to eat curry? Ate tonkatsu ramen, burnt cha-su , whole soup taste burnt, egg is too salty. There's better real Japanese food around in Oahu that is better. I wouldn't go back. read more
