I must be staying under a lava rock! I did not know about this place cool cafe, that has its own parking lot in the back! I needed something to eat and caffeine, and searching on Yelp, I found them. I didn't know you could enter from the back, but a friendly good morning when I came in. They have a lot to choose from! I got a plain croissant and a red velvet croissant. This was really unique in flavor and texture! Definitely something to consider if you stop in. I also ordered Jeanne's Fav, vanilla, lavender latte, iced. This was really good! Great way to start my morning! There's some chairs and coffee tables in the back parking lot which would be great to hang out in, especially if it's raining. A friend and I ordered the Kopi (Singaporean coffee with condensed milk) and Kopi Peng (Singaporean coffee with condensed milk and evaporated milk) and both were good - the coffee is really smooth, with a creamy, lightly sweetened flavor. And the staff was so nice! I couldn't decide which coffee to get, so they let me sample! It was really tasty but could be a liiiittle stronger, I think. The seating area is spacious, and there is window seating and outdoor seating, too. There is a gender neutral bathroom, which was clean, but heads up that it is rather small and not an ADA bathroom. They have free wifi and I think it would be a pretty good place to do some work or chat with friends, since it's not too loud inside. They also sell some art, stickers, cards, etc. by local artists, and their own merch. I think I'll come back to try the laksa! read more

Maybe one of the best matcha lattes I've had in Kailua--and I've tried many! You can already tell from the picture that the matcha Cafe Kopi uses is high quality (not Costco, or a grassy yellow). Each drink is prepared by hand and the matcha is hand whisked as well. Their matcha latte comes automatically sweetened with agave and is the perfect amount of sweetness. My bf also really liked his iced (coffee) latte. I love Cafe Kopi's atmosphere (there's lots of tables), drinks and they always have cool local art pieces/stickers for sale. Requisite American cafe coffee drinks, check. A great selection of house baked goods including a very good croissant and a fruit "Danish" made of buttery layered croissant dough and fresh fruits. The real standouts, Singapore's kaya (coconut spread) toast, kopi (seasoned pulled coffee) and laksa. 1. Kaya toast - well made, coconut with pandan notes flavored kaya. It is spread between crust removed, toasted, buttered bread. Simplicity at its best. One thing, where's the coddled egg, soy sauce and white pepper? 2. Kopi - STRONG. Good roasted flavor with black butter notes. No bitterness or acrid finish. Simply frothed or with evaporated milk. Either way, a caffeinated boost equal to the similar number of shots of espresso. 3. Laksa - Fancy by Singapore standards but between the flavorful and fragrant rempah (dried shrimp / spice paste), good shrimp stock made creamy by slightly curdled coconut milk, tender noodles, and properly cooked shrimp and fried bean curd, a solid example of laksa made for Western taste. Cafe Kopi brings me back to my days living in Singapore when I preferred to hang out at homey cafes with mismatched furnitures, friendly staff and good coffee. The vibe is relaxed and the paintings on the wall feature local artists. I was excited to see real Kopi on the menu. Variations include Kopi O, Kopi Gao, Kopi C, etc. I wanted to order the Kopi but was informed by the nice lady that they ran out of the base brew so they couldn't make it. (It was only 930am on a Tuesday) so I inquired if I can just order the iced Singaporean coffee instead. She said she can make that since it doesn't use the "base brew" ... so I wasn't really sure what I got, maybe just a latte but the milk didn't have a thick feel to it so I was ok with that. My husband was raving about the overnight oats with fresh berries the day before so that's what he ordered again on his second visit. The barista informed him that they just made those oats that morning so the milk hasn't fully set yet. (let's just call it morning oats then) he said this was ok since he was starving. The Traditional Singapore Kopi drink is a must-order and features caffeinated Robusta coffee beans, roasted in butter and sugar. This gives it a rich, caramelized flavor that's more aromatic than its Vietnamese version. Enjoy it alongside some Kaya Toast and you have yourself the perfect traditional old school Singaporean breakfast. As for food, everything we had was delicious from the flavor-bomb of a dish, the Singaporean Laksa, to the Spam Musubi Croissant. The latter was a bit pricey for a pastry but upon trying it with its flaky buttery layers of dough combined with the salty, umami-rich seaweed and spam, it was well worth it. My Friday date and I ventured outside of urban Honolulu this morning upon recommendation of one of my patients. She raved about her friends' coffee shop meets Singapore fusion restaurant stop as a place we had to try on one of our "coffee safaris." There's a parking lot in the back, which we know is SO key in kailua town. We opted to sit indoors and enjoy their AC and watch the kitchen create delicious smells while we enjoyed our drinks and snacks. Naturally, my grandfather opted for black coffee which in his words "is so strong!" And I chose the Kopi coffee on ice, perfect for the hot day. We also got a snackie of Chinese dumplings, which were individually fried to perfection and came with a delicious sweet chili dipping sauce. The food came out a bit slowly, but the kitchen was busy and we were in no rush, and got to enjoy our drinks while making conversation over the local artwork on their walls. The Singapore laksa came highly recommended by my patient, but we arrived a little too early, and was still brewing. We were told it's only available Fridays-Sundays. The Chinese dumplings are also great. Just fyi, a few weeks ago I was told their pastry chef only works Mondays and Fridays during the week, so sadly the pastry case was pretty empty on Tues/Wed/Thurs. I follow a local artist named @candicedoodles on IG and I saw that she started selling some of her merch at Cafe Kopi. I live near Kailua, so I was surprised to find out that Cafe Kopi is Singaporean owned and has been in Kailua for a number of years. How did I not know about this place??! I kind of jokingly pride myself in being 1/4 Singaporean Chinese. I seek out Singaporean things mostly because I miss traveling to Singapore twice a year with my grandparents. Singapore is nostalgic for me. I decided to come in asap to get a coffee and do some work. It's a nice little coffee shop with about 8 tables and a splattering of chairs. They offer cute pastries and coffee and tea. They also sell artwork from artists like Candicedoodles. I ordered the Teh Tarik with condensed milk. It had a strong tea flavor and I love condense milk, so it was perfect. I was thinking about getting kaya toast, but I didn't see it offered anywhere by the register (like on a menu)...oh well, next time! I will definitely need to come back on a Friday, Sat or Sunday to get Laksa. And I am thinking about making this my go to coffee shop in Kailua. read more

Customers were quietly working on their laptops when I arrived around noon on a Thursday. I knew that there was a free parking lot in the back because I had been here before, but I couldn't remember what I had. It must have been good because I wanted to return. I needed a coffee before the weekly mahjong session nearby. The Mocha Macnut was perfect because it was creamy, sweet, and pepped me up! I was also going to get the Overnight Oat Parfait, but I saw the Lemon Meringue tart in the display case. It's challenging to get a whole pie because not many people like Lemon Meringue... that's why the tart size is great! The crust was fabulously buttery and on the thin side (instead of thick shortbread style). The Meringue was fluffy sweet and balanced the tartness of the lemon filling... ahh! Happiness! This cafe is also known for its laska. I'm not a spicy-food person, but you might like it. I want to return for the dumplings, musubi, and other Kopi (Southeast Asian coffee) flavors! read more

Terrible service. Waited to place our order for 20 minutes with 2 customers ahead of us. The cashier was painfully slow. When we finally got to our turn she took the order. A to go order. Nothing complicated... and it took another 15 minutes to get the order croissants and bagels packed in a pastry box. Altogether we were there 35 Minutes. The owner needs better cashier help and a better way of taking and getting orders prepared. Do not go there to relax. It's too stressful to wait like that. read more

Have had Cafe Kopi on my radar ever since hearing the rumor that they have the best laksa on the island. After trying it I can confidently say, THE RUMORS ARE TRUE! What surprised me was all of the other goodness found inside the doors (and just outside) of Cafe Kopi! My partner-in-crime (let's just call her my enabler) and I came on a Sunday after calling to confirm. Laksa service starts at 10am so yep, we were there at 10:05 hahah (didn't want them to run out of targeted dish on us... which rumor has it...they do sell out so, get there early!). You go to the cashier stand, right next to the baked goods display to order then sit down. Believe me, those croissants are amazing! We ordered our two laksa (with upgraded rice noodles instead of wheat) and a box of croissants to go. The taste of the laksa broth is so rich and deep, every spoonful is heavenly. Quality ingredients include nicely sized and firm shrimp, fried tofu, the perfectly cooked soft boiled egg (still slightly runny) and noodles of choice. Portion is smaller than other places, and the price is smaller too ...I prefer it that way! Leaves room for finishing meal with a latte and/or half, or a whole croissant. Laksa 10 out of 10. Nailed it! The croissants were originally bought to share later. After trying the corn/kimchee croissant after laksa, no one else saw the rest as they went straight into fridge for later personal consumption. Hahah. Corn/kimchee croissant - heaven on earth. It's quite the rave in Korea and now I know why! 6 out of 10. Mushroom cheese croissant - heated in air fryer the next day to the perfect melted crispy treat. Sooo delicious, like a bowl of French onion soup without the broth. 8 out of 10 ! Chocolate croissant - it's big, its light and airy, its crispy and flaky. And it's the best I've had, comparing it to all of our 5 star 5 diamond properties as well as the ones I've had in Europe. Giving it a 10 out of 10. Can't wait to try the ham & cheese croissant and almond croissant still patiently waiting in fridge. Love my air fryer! Enjoyed their matcha oatmilk latte and a taste of their chai latte. Such a nice fellow he sat with us for a few minutes and told us about the upcoming art reveal as well as live music events scheduled. He pointed out the upgraded sidewalk seating ... Ernest mentioned his expert baker who used to have his own bakery before moving to Cafe Kopi. Convenient store parking in the back is accessed on the immediate right of the Cafe. There are a plentiful 17 spaces. There is as also lots of outdoor seating off of the parking lot, in the front of the store, and inside as well. Unisex bathroom available for customers. Looking forward to returning for the delicious croissants and matcha or coffee, for the fun events, and...if it it's a Friday, Saturday, or Sunday after 10am, for the most memorable Singaporean laksa!
