Get the custard filled Long John. It's a treat. Perfect size and filling. The custard is also rich and creamy. To be frank, Donut King does classic donuts well. Plus all their donuts look delicious! I noticed this donut shop while eating the best, and freshest fish that I had on the Hawaiian island across the street at PAIA. I went in with low expectations. The owner was quite nice and very confident in his product. I noticed that he had placed a cinnamon sugar doughnut into the showcase. It appeared super moist. The owner asked me what kind of doughnut was my favorite. I wanted to say all of them, but instead I told him glaze. I saw a glaze twist doughnut. Since I was not sure if it would be good, I only purchased one. BUT let me tell u something! I gave the doughnut to my daughter. Little donut shop with a variety of delicious sweet treats. There was a little bit of a line but it moved fairly quickly. I wanted to try their croissant bites which was mini croissants with a glaze on top. It was not bad, pretty good. I could honestly eat like A LOT in one sitting knowing me. But i bought a dozen and knew it had to at least last me the whole day so I couldn't just eat it all at once. The only con is that the donut shapes aren't consistent. Some are a lot bigger and some are very small. So if I ordered half a dozen or a dozen, I would want to get my money worth and not take a chance on getting a tiny donut. read more

I'm a sucker for sweets and good donuts. Was strolling in this strip mall in Kailua and came across Donut King. Decided to take a peek and see what they had. To my surprise they had some good choices. I got a plain glaze donut, cookie butter glazed donut and a dozen croissant bites. All were amazing. The croissant bites looked like they were deep fried but to my surprise wasn't oily at all. It had a nice glaze on it and tasty....but to be honest...addicting. The glaze donut were so light and fluffy and the glaze was just right! Service was fast and good but the entry area was quite small. Simply Amazing. Donut Kind Hawaii at Kailua is serving up some of the freshest, airest donuts on island (for a reasonable price too)! They are most known for their bacon donuts which was sold out by the time I got there. So of course, I had to try their classics. I got a glazed, chocolate, and cinnamon sugar donut. All three were spot on amazing. No complaints. The cinnamon sugar was my favorite. It had just a good amount of sugar to the point where I wasn't jumping off walls. Service was excellent as well. There are no words. We were coming home from breakfast and had to pull over for a post-breakfast treat. ;-) Donut King never disappoints. So fresh, soft and delicious. Mind you....technically we were not even hungry! The maple bacon donut is simply....heavenly. And loaded with so much bacon the bits kept falling off with each bite I took. Now that's my kind of "problem". Perfect location. Loads of easy parking. Super pleasant setting. We ate at an outdoor table mainly because we could not wait to take them home to eat them. The least favorite of the number in our box. The Earl: Maple bacon donut. I think I had high expectations as my imagination made comparisons to the same type of donut I ordered at chain in Portland, OR. What can I say, my dreams were shattered. I shouldn't have expected the same caliber and quality. The Marquess: The apple fritter. Though this is one of their most popular sellers, this was just "ok" for me. The Duke: Custard filled donut. I had just one bite, and my friend finished the rest. According to his "review", this was the best of the bunch. The King: The strawberry donut with sprinkles. The frosting was yummy. My favorite in the entire box. SERVICE: The staff was friendly and helpful. They answered our questions, and were very efficient. NOTE: 1. Ample parking available in the shopping center lot; though I can see the lot filling fast during peak hours. 2. There's no place to sit and eat your donuts. It's basically grab and go. So if you don't see a line run over because it's not long before the people come and the line will get long. There were so many great options to pick from! Been wanting to try this donut shop since the original one in town opened, finally got a chance to try it at this kailua location. I was passing by and was surprised there wasn't a line like I've seen in the past at both locations so I had to stop and check it out. The employees are nice but they made me feel rushed cuz they kept asking what u want after I told them I'm not ready to order still looking when they asked the 1st time. I was the only customer in there and being my 1st visit I wanted to check thru everything. Well I finally just picked a few just to move things along since they asked 3x already and I kept saying I'm still deciding. Overall I was in and out in few mins glad there wasn't a line behind me. There was hardly anything to chose from but because it was all scattered in the display tray it looked like alot to chose from lol. As far as taste I ordered my fave Old Fashion Donut and honestly I didnt care for it. The blueberry and red velvet was okay. I've had donuts from a few other bakeries and donut shops that impressed me more. But it was still worth the stop and if I have another donut craving and I'm ever passing by again hopefully earlier when they have more selection I'd def stop. read more

I'm surprised but very happy they opened about 4 months ago in Kailua. The town needed a great donut place like this cos Safeway and Foodland while inexpensive, just doesn't cut it for me. I've been to the one in Market City but it's quite a pain to drive there from the Windward side just for donuts... so now this is my go to place. Thru have a great selection and the quality is really good. My needs are simple and my favorites are the plain glazed or old fashioned glazed... as good as Krispy Kreme (maybe not as lite but I like some "chew" in the donut). The glazed mini croissants are great too. I'll be going back almost weekly, esp with the Covid making me stay at home, having coffee and donuts are the perfect combination! read more

A new donut shop in Kailua, Oahu, Hawaii... I saw Nat N. check in at Donut King in Kailua. This is the second location of a popular donut shop. The original Donut King is at Market City in the Kapahulu area. Today (May 7, 2020) was their Soft Opening. I arrived just before closing, so it wasn't that crowded. I got a free parking space right in front of the shop. Kailua's Donut King is located about two doors down from Times Supermarket. It's a cozy space - good enough for takeout only. I got a glazed donut because I know (from prior experience at the Honolulu location) that the donuts are light and fluffy. They're so soft that they almost melt in the mouth! Service was excellent. I paid cash and was a penny short. The cashier waved me off and I promised to return. When I looked in my package, she had given me two complimentary donut holes along with my glazed donut - awww... that's so sweet! I found a penny in my car. I went back to the shop and gave it to the cashier. She smiled and laughed! Next time I'm in Kailua, I want to go back and get a chocolate donut! Mmm! Maybe I'll get a Long John, too! read more

Came here on a Sunday at 830am, there was a line but it went pretty fast. We grabbed two yeast donuts with sprinkles, a glazed croissant-donut, bacon maple donut, and apple fritter. Everything was delicious and freshly baked (the fritter was still a little warm!). The donuts had a nice crisp edge without taking away from the inside and all of them tasted delicious. Overall a solid option for donuts here in Kailua, but could be better. The cronut holes are fun change from most donut shops. I felt the old fashioned was too cakes and soft. I guess I prefer it to have more crunch around the edges. Weekend mornings bring long lines. I usually only go when the line is gone. read more
