Dessert in Kaneohe, O'ahu, Hawai'i…read more.. I saw this new business when I was at a food truck in their parking lot and I had to return during business hours to give them a try. Pie Coon Bakery has such a clever business name and really cute, professional advertising! Did you see their kawaii racoon mascot??? Their free shared parking lot is right next to Jack In The Box. Inside, the very polite, friendly couple are efficient and helpful! They can do catering, special requests, and deliveries! Wow! I'm gonna check their Instagram page and order for Father's Day! I arrived there later in the day, so, they had run out of many flavors like caramel apple. I got a small coconut cream pie which was delicious with macadamia nuts in the crust! They also gave me a sample of Ube pie that had some bits of pineapple in it! Yum! I'm looking forward to returning and trying all of the flavors, especially espresso!

I was able to try the banana cream in a mini size at Foodie Con and it was delicious. Good fresh banana flavor and a good balance of whipped cream topping and the base pie layer. My partner got an espresso pie and enjoyed his as well. We sampled several of their pies and they were all excellent. The business owners are very kind and sweet and spent plenty of time talking with each person visiting their booth. I'll be visiting again, as I prefer to get a slice of pie or a mini pie instead of having an entire pie around my house. That's just too much temptation. Plus this way I can do several smaller mini pies and get multiple flavors. That's a win.

You see, last Christmas I gave you my heart and the very next day, you gave it away. This year, to save me from tears........no, no. This never happened to me but Wham's "Last Christmas" which was written by George Michael, is overly played during the holidays in Japan. On a serious note, last Christmas I was jonesing for a yule log. I saw posts on IG and when I attempted to order one at a bakery on S King St, I was advised it was too late. At a Japanese themed bakery I was offered the option of a Christmas cake but wasn't in a mood for strawberry shortcake. I was on a mission. I recall attending a Christmas dinner at my cousin's a few years back where someone brought Yule logs and found that they were from Elvin's Bakery (EB). I also did a search on EB's photo gallery and saw one posted so I gave them a call. Placing an order via telephone was literally a piece of cake. It was confirmed to a tee and was also advised their closing on Christmas Day so pick up would be on Christmas Eve. I made payment over the phone. All done. The Yule log was a hit at Christmas dinner where it was visually stunning and tasty. It was not overly sweet nor dry. Well executed and decorated beautifully. So why not 5-stars? Picking it up was a shocker when the Yule log was placed in a cake box that clearly was meant for a 1/2 sheet cake (?) size so you had to be extra careful when transporting and storing. There was no support nor fillers in the box for the quite empty box as the Yule log was not meant for the box provided. In closing, I'm grateful EB came through with an amazing dessert for our holiday dinner but was caught off guard with their boxing. I'll need to think twice about ordering a Yule log again from them and will definitely order earlier and seek the options on Oahu before deciding on where to go.

Then we noticed a small, family-owned tent with no line at all, selling chili topped with cornbread and beef luau pot pie. At first, we were hesitant, no line usually isn't a great sign but we didn't feel like waiting forever elsewhere, so we decided to give them a try. We are so glad we did! The beef luau was incredibly tender, melting in your mouth with every bite, and the crust-to-filling ratio on the pot pie was absolutely perfect. The chili with cornbread was right up my alley, comforting, hearty, and full of flavor. My boyfriend loved it so much that he went back for more to share with our group. To our surprise, the family blessed us with extra treats, including their delicious poi banana bread and more pot pies. We tried to pay, but they insisted, explaining that hardly anyone had stopped by their tent and they didn't want to take all the food home. We were so grateful for their generosity. It honestly left us wondering why they weren't busier, because their food was some of the best at the event. While other vendors were serving up reheated frozen fries, this family was putting out homemade dishes you could taste the love in. Truly a hidden gem, and such a highlight of our night. We highly recommend supporting this beautiful local family, their food is absolutely delicious, and they are truly lovely people.

They're open from 6am-1pm, and by the time we got there, a few items we wanted to try were already sold out. If you have your heart set on something specific, definitely come early. Cash only!! One of the sweetest parts of the experience was the owner -- a sweet older lady who takes your order herself and carefully packages everything up for you. It feels very personal and old-school in the best way. Here's what we tried: Long John - The star of the show. It's served chilled and doesn't look like your typical long john. The donut itself was light, pillowy, and slightly crispy. The texture contrast was perfect. We'd honestly come back just for this. Mochi An Pan - Really good. The mochi had that satisfying chew, the red bean wasn't overly sweet, and the bread was soft and fresh. Mushroom & Onion - Savory and comforting. The cream sauce was flavorful and paired well with the soft bread Ham & Cream Cheese - This one was a bit too dense for us, likely because of the cream cheese topping. Not bad, just heavier than we prefer. Parking is easy and plentiful since it's in the same lot as the movie theater.
