Located on Keolu Street in the same parking lot as the Keolu theater, this tiny mom and pop bakery is located. They are known for their Mochi filled anpan which very good and they have been making it for awhile. So if you enjoy mochi and anpan you will enjoy them. I also tried the pineapple and coconut pastry look like the texture of a flaky turnover, but instead it was soggy and not flaky which was a disappointment. The filling had chunks of pineapple bits and coconut which was tasty, but if you are looking for a flaky texture this is not for you. I arrived around 11:00 am and the selection was very limited and the customer in front of me placed an order and just purchased the last apple turnover which looked very good. The customer behind me had slim picking because there was hardly anything left. I guess if you are going that way it would be better to place an order ahead of time so you will be able to get what you want. They also sell different homemade breads, but even that was very limited items on the shelf.

Enjoyed the pastries we bought. My wife loved the spinach bread. I love supporting locals and will continue to come here when I'm in Kailua. I just wished they didn't sell out so early. I had the chocolate donut which had the perfect chewy consistency and the chocolate was nice and rich. I'd definitely eat a few of those the next time. Support local and swing by this small bakery that's been around since the 90s.

This is really a mom and pop operation. Husband baking and wife manning the counter Located in the strip mall that houses Kailua Cinemas and not the Enchanted Lakes Shopping Center. They sell both pastries and bread.Today my wife went and got us some cinnamon rolls. It had a good buttery cinnamon taste and not to sweet. The prices are on the high side. Will be back to try some of the other pastries and bread. Enjoy.

I found this place by word of mouth. I figured, gotta be good if people can't stop talking about this place. So I had to try it! It's located in Enchanted Lakes shopping center. Lots of parking but you gotta get there early to have a good selection. Everything we got was good!! I should've purchased more but I gotta watch my weight instead of keep buying bigger pants. You wanna try a good bakery? Check out Nene Goose Bakery!!

This bakery is so good and tucked away in a little strip Mall! They open at 6am but worth it! The long Johns are awesome- filled with yummy custard Old fashion donut - not too sweet but light and fluffy Raised glazed donut - no words to describe its yummyness Spinach bread - broke the mouth good Raisin bread - looks good but too busy eating everything else! Lots of parking- they take cash only - nice people!

One of the last remaining hole in the wall bakeries on the windward side. Cash only, don't forget!

Clockwise from top left: Fruit Tart, Mushroom & Onion Tart, Chocolate Animal, and Mochi An Pan: decent choices!

=== 1. VERDICT/VALUE A mom-and-pop bakery that maybe a little hard to find is perhaps the diamond in the rough you are looking for when it comes to baked goods...! === 2. FOOD While driving to get groceries (and to prevent the baby from tearing up the home due to pandemic cabin fever) it was nice to finally try some of the eats: - Mochi An Pan ($3.10): polarizing - you either love or hate mochie and red bean sauce inside your baked bun! - Fruit Tart ($2.70): refreshing and quite tasty with custard! - Mushroom Onion ($3): a surprise favorite - who knew savory could be so good tart-style?! - Chocolate Animal ($3): you can never have enough chocolate on anything, but the one we got really seemed to be lacking - hoping it's a one-off! === 3. SERVICE & ATMOSPHERE The nice old lady who answers the phone, welcomes customers indoors, takes your order, gets your order, and cashes out your order (cash-only in this place) - may be the best part of the place, especially if you like supporting local businesses! The place only has room for you to stand and look at shelves/display cases in three directions, so there's no dining in. From a takeout perspective, there's not much decor to look at other than some old Japanese signage (which may match their hard-to-find signage outdoors - not much to see there!). While wheelchairs and strollers are best left outside; the shopping center parking lot thankfully has a lot of spaces available for those driving here.

Hidden gem for the best spinach cheese rolls and baked goods this side of heaven! It's in a small shopping center where the Kailua Cinema is. Small little place with a sweet lady selling pillowy bread and savory and sweet baked treats. Judging from word of mouth and reviews from fellow Yelpers, the most popular items are the savory buns- namely the spinach-cheese, spinach mushroom and onion. There are other combos like onion, salmon spinach- ALL are good! Not flat buns like at other Japanese bakeries but they stand tall- filled with filling and surrounded by soft bread. She also recommended an anpan with a layer of sweet bean and a slab of soft mochi. Yummy!!! No wonder they sell out in the hour or two after opening! Hours are limited, it's open Thursday to Sunday from 6am to 1pm. Pro tip: you can pre-order and pay the day before and pick it up the next day to avoid the rush. And cash only. Also please be respectful and honor the request to mask inside and limit to one person or family entering.

    Egg pizza yum

They're open today Thanksgiving day they made extra butter rolls!! You have to get them and you won't be disappointed!

I'm glad we still have Nene Goose Bakery serving the Windward side of the island. The bakery reminds me of the Watanabe bakery but on a smaller scale. The quiet but sweet & patient lady in the front is the baker's wife and her husband does all the baking! Wow! They open early and close early afternoon so it's best to go early to get your favorites or choice of pastries before they run out! If you go near the last half hour of their closing time, she may have some pastries bagged together for a reduced price! If I still remembered correctly that I was told by his wife that he did learn from Mr. Watanabe and he did helped them set up when they first opened their bakery. Probably can see similarities in the pastries which is so delicate and delicious! You can spend an arm and leg since most of their pastries are from just under $2 to over $3 per donut/pastry. Just make sure you bring enough cash since they are a cash only bakery. If you're in a rush and there is a line, probably best to come another time since she does take her time and make sure everything is filled correctly. I give her credit not to get stressed & they seem to managed all these years with just the two of them. She now have an erasable "write"board to write down your pastry order. She used to write it down on the post-it notes but her husband bought her this so she can be paperless! She did said it's a little too heavy to carry around as she pack the orders in the box. Note, you have to spend at least $10 to have your pastries boxed otherwise it'll be bagged. I do like their anpan with mochi inside, cute animal breads, savory breads. I'm a big fan of her 1/2 loaf multi-grain bread which has no egg, milk or sugar inside and it taste so light and moist. The spinach bread is different too. It's great having it toasted! I freeze their breads since there are no preservatives in the bread but it's so soft if you eat it fresh. The size is similar to the Japanese large square bread. They also sell their 1-2 days old breads at a discounted price to the right as you entered. They have sometimes custard & pumpkin pies to the left, cake donuts, individual pizza, fancy filled pastries, but I love the savory ones the best. I asked my mom again how we are related to the wife and she said it was my grandpa's cousin is the wife's grandma through her father side. In the past I thought it was distance relationship through marriage. Can't confirm with my Grandma since she has passed but if it wasn't for the elders I wouldn't have known. Her father knew my grandparents but he has passed on too but his daughter only knew of us through what I told her. Small island and we may related to many and not know. If you ever in Kailua area in the morning it's worth checking out Nene Goose Bakery! It's near the Kailua Cinema in the little shopping complex next to Texaco Gas Station but not the Enchanted Lake Shopping Center with Safeway and McDonalds. They are closed on Tuesday & Wednesday and open Thursday - Monday from 6am-1pm. Thanks for reading. =)

Love mom and pop places like this! Discovered this hidden gem in Kailua in Enchanted Lakes. The lady here is super sweet and I love all her baked goods! Love that it's not super sweet and she has a variety of sweet pastries and savory ones!

    Selection at around 7:30 am!

Very cute little bakery in Kailua! We got there around 7-7:30 am (they open at 6 am) and there were already several items that were sold out. There was still a pretty wide selection, but I'd definitely recommend trying to go earlier in the day. We tried the red bean mochi, spinach bread, choco animal (so cute!!!), and buffalo chicken. The red bean mochi bread was probably my favorite, but you honestly can't go wrong. Support local businesses and definitely check this place out.

The lines for fresh pastries was always long... This week, I decided to get in line early! I know that Baker Dudes has a shop on Alakea Street. The parking in downtown Honolulu isn't the best, so, I avoid the area. That's why i chose to patronize Baker Dude at the Kailua Town Farmer's Market! There's lots of street parking around the Pali Lanes area in Kailua. If you park in a metered stall, parking on Sundays is free anyway! I usually park in the free covered garage in front of Longs Drug Store. Enter from Kailua Road. If you have a good sense of smell, you'll find Baker Dude when you follow your nose. The fresh aroma of pastries will lead you to the stall. There were a few customers in line already. SERVICE: The guy was really hustling by fielding questions about ingredients - he was amazingly knowledgeable - while gently packaging goodies. The female worker was tending to a goose in a stoller! I kid you not! It was quite amusing! When she was done with making the goose comfy, she cleaned her hands and donned gloves. She was as efficient and friendly as the male worker! I limited myself to two items: the Blueberry Lilikoi Cinnamon Roll and the Apple Turnover. I'm so glad that I devoured them at home because they were so flakey and I was making a mess! I probably was emitting strange noises with each bite and attempting to contain my drooling! Gosh! LOL! Anyway, if you want some high quality baked goods, I would suggest that you give Baker Dude a try. If you work in downtown, stop by at the shop. If not, the Sunday morning Kailua Town Farmer's Market is a great shopping experience! I'll be back for some scones, cookies, and bread!
