I had a Turkey Pesto Sandwich on sourdough for this Sunday's takeout lunch. A solid sando. But it was the Kulolo Muffin with coconut flakes that was the star this afternoon...very good.

Takeout lunch from Kailua, O'ahu, Hawai'i... After my 5-star experience at the Kahala location of Great Harvest Bread, I wanted to compare it to the Kailua location... Wow... I thought that it couldn't get better, but it did! The Kailua location of Great Harvest Bread has free street parking; has friendly service that also offered me a sample of the Monkey Bread; and also had high quality products. What makes it different from the Kahala location? This Kailua store seems bigger, brighter, has better air-conditioning; and has a few tables and chairs for dining in (or for waiting for your sandwich to be made). The gal behind the counter was very competent. She managed three customers at the same time by herself! I arrived first, so I got more of her attention. She told me about the Monkey Bread and sold me a mini loaf which breaks apart into three pieces. They weren't wrapped up yet because they were cooling off... that's how fresh they were! I told her that I really wanted a Ruben sandwich for my sister (who is obsessed with it) and saw that it was hand-written into the menu - the Kahala location didn't have it written. She asked me what kind of bread I wanted... that's when I decided to get a second Ruben - to compare the bread: Honey Whole Wheat vs. Rosemary Garlic. The verdict: both were excellent! We enjoyed both sandwiches equally! I'm looking forward to returning! My Loyalty Points are adding up!!!

A Scones Search has suddenly began, and the first stop is Great Harvest Bread in Kailua. It did not disappoint! Located along Hekili St., at the end of a strip mall, next to Kono's. It's next to the parking entrance behind the building. Free street parking is also available. Inside is clean and bright with your array of baked goods with a nice variety of breads, scones, muffins, sandwiches, and etc. Their Kulolo items are unique! The person at the front was very friendly, patient, helpful, and had a pleasant demeanor that made you feel welcomed and comfortable. The Kulolo Muffin was the best thing we had. Crunchy crust, toasty coconut strips outside, soft inside with good taro flavor, and perfect amount of rich- and sweetness. Blueberry Cream Cheese Scone was excellent. Huge size! Solid amount of blueberries, and most importantly, just the right amount of cream cheese and sweetness. Strawberry Matcha Cream Cheese scone was excellent too! Solid matcha flavor with a good amount of strawberry and cream cheese. The Bacon Cheddar Chive biscuit (this can be a scone too!) was good. Nice amount of bacon. Just enough cheddar. Didn't really catch any chives. It was rich, but not too heavy. Overall, I enjoyed everything. All were prepared very well. Prices were reasonable. Excellent service. I'll definitely be back for more Kulolo and scones!

I went here yesterday after having lunch in the area and ordered some of their baked goods. They have sourdough bread, cookies, and other baked goods. We ended up getting their cranberry chip bread and Kulolo teacake which has similar consistency to banana bread. Both were delish! They also offered sample of their cranberry chip bread that sold us with their cinnamon butter which was delish!

Nothing like the smell of freshly baked... Love seeing Great Harvest Bread in Kailua offering not just amazing varieties of hearty bread and it's loaded as I tried picking up a loaf surprised how heavy they were which I can just imagine having them as a sandwich which they do also offer as well which I've forgotten and have already had lunch elsewhere and stopped by here for a breakfast bite as working on a holiday is something I do need to be prepared for. Sandwich is served all day with last call 30 minutes to closing using their honey whole wheat or the bread of the day which is all scratch made already has me drooling with excitement and not to be missed on my next visit. I did stop by late in the day as I forgot the various errands I had in Kailua but they still have a few items available like their Banana Muffin which is huge so I grabbed two...one to share. Follow them on Instagram @greatharvesthawaii as they post their monthly offerings which also has the link to their website that describes it all including nutrition information listing all ingredients for any allergies is absolutely phenomenal to break bread without hesitation. Thank you!

Literally just left the bakery and I'm glad to see that everyone was greeted with a smile, she offered help and thanked everyone. I really enjoyed her new energy. Keep up the good work

Great quality sandwiches for a great price. They offer hot and cold sandwiches. I got the Classic breakfast sandwich which comes with egg, bacon, your choice of cheese (i chose provolone), and your choice of bread (i chose rosemary garlic. The bread was very delicious and I would want to try all the different bread options! I got my sandwich very quickly and the worker was very kind

Ask the Community - Great Harvest Bread

Is there no longer an offering of slice of bread upon check out? -I do understand each store is franchised and has its own policies.

Yes they do have sliced bread samples at checkout. I was there last week and had a slice of their matcha scone (I think it was a scone) and the cinnamon bread.

One of the sweetest parts of the experience was the owner -- a sweet older lady who takes your order herself and carefully packages everything up for you. It feels very personal and old-school in the best way. Here's what we tried: Long John - The star of the show. It's served chilled and doesn't look like your typical long john. The donut itself was light, pillowy, and slightly crispy. The texture contrast was perfect. We'd honestly come back just for this. Mochi An Pan - Really good. The mochi had that satisfying chew, the red bean wasn't overly sweet, and the bread was soft and fresh. Mushroom & Onion - Savory and comforting. The cream sauce was flavorful and paired well with the soft bread Ham & Cream Cheese - This one was a bit too dense for us, likely because of the cream cheese topping. Not bad, just heavier than we prefer. Parking is easy and plentiful since it's in the same lot as the movie theater. Overall, such a cute local bakery, make sure to come early, bring cash, and don't skip the long john.

The lines for fresh pastries was always long... This week, I decided to get in line early! I know that Baker Dudes has a shop on Alakea Street. The parking in downtown Honolulu isn't the best, so, I avoid the area. That's why i chose to patronize Baker Dude at the Kailua Town Farmer's Market! There's lots of street parking around the Pali Lanes area in Kailua. If you park in a metered stall, parking on Sundays is free anyway! I usually park in the free covered garage in front of Longs Drug Store. Enter from Kailua Road. If you have a good sense of smell, you'll find Baker Dude when you follow your nose. The fresh aroma of pastries will lead you to the stall. There were a few customers in line already. SERVICE: The guy was really hustling by fielding questions about ingredients - he was amazingly knowledgeable - while gently packaging goodies. The female worker was tending to a goose in a stoller! I kid you not! It was quite amusing! When she was done with making the goose comfy, she cleaned her hands and donned gloves. She was as efficient and friendly as the male worker! I limited myself to two items: the Blueberry Lilikoi Cinnamon Roll and the Apple Turnover. I'm so glad that I devoured them at home because they were so flakey and I was making a mess! I probably was emitting strange noises with each bite and attempting to contain my drooling! Gosh! LOL! Anyway, if you want some high quality baked goods, I would suggest that you give Baker Dude a try. If you work in downtown, stop by at the shop.
