Cute little matcha cafe with indoor seating. Great for a break from the heat but the drinks are super tiny for the price and a bit watered down with milk.
Suica ( watermelon ) Matcha is one of two Summer seasonal drinks. I wasn't sure if the watermelon juice and matcha matches as well as with other fruits - but this is the second time that I've had it....excellent. Another seasonal beverage: Yuzu Cold Brew Tonic. Anything yuzu...I'm into...also, excellent. This weekend - Sunday the 28th of June being the final day- has a pop up of TOWA & Chris Miyashiro's clothing collab. Natural fabrics amd recycled materials, in earth tones and made for comfort...some pieces for men.
Everything is so small...yet so expensive... They don't use organic milk so a bit disappointed for the price. This is probably the most expensive matcha (price per gram) you'll ever pay for. I think I prefer the cheesecake over the matcha latte. But the cheesecake is also so small. Like really small. Good ambiance. I've also added a picture of the cheesecake and my cat keys to scale
Ando is a lovely lil cafe dedicated to tea and coffee in Kailua Town, right along Hekili Street. Parking is generally available on the street, otherwise you can park in the various lots located around the downtown area. The entrance of the shop is framed by plants and cozy patio seating, and when you enter the cafe itself, it has a minimalist, modern wood interior. There are some chairs/benches inside the shop for seating, and you can also enjoy your drink outside, which is a little oasis in itself with music playing in the background to create a peaceful atmosphere. The staff members are all very helpful and polite, and happy to explain if you have any questions about the menu! In terms of the menu selection, I haven't quite found my favorite drink yet. I've ordered the matcha latte, cloud spice matcha, the raspberry/matcha croissant, and basque cheesecake slices, all of which were okay. The prices are a bit on the steeper side for the portion size, and I personally prefer the matcha I've found at other cafes (e.g. Ohana Hui, Daily Whisk), but I could be mistaken as I haven't tried their ceremonial grade matcha. I also haven't tried the pourover coffee, which is another key feature of their menu. In general, I love coming here whenever I want to relax and settle down to enjoy a book with a drink in hand. I'd recommend stopping by if you haven't tried Ando before!

I stumbled upon this place by accident as I was solo traveling around town. I immediately was attracted to the interior and ambiance of the shop. I immediately was greeted by two kind workers. Kevin in particular helped me pick out what matcha I might prefer. He was very knowledgeable and patient with me. He gave a very homecoming feeling to the place and I truly enjoyed the ceremonial matcha that was made. It definitely is a taste of what it's like in Japan. When I visit the islands again, this is a for sure the spot to visit.
If you ever need an escape from the hustle bustle of the city, Ando in Kailua is the place to be. It kind of feels like you're being transported to a rural area in Japan because it's so peaceful and calming. They have drink specials as well as authentic ceremonial matcha and you can either dine inside or outside where they have a cute patio area for you to relax. It's definitely not the type of cafe to study unless you hotspot from your phone because they don't offer WiFi. One of our favorites is the Hojicha Latte -- light and creamy! I love to come back again to try their other drinks. Parking isn't the greatest but doable; you can either try for street parking or park at Target and walk over

Very cute and cozy matcha spot. The reviews do it justice! The space is nicely decorated with lots of seating to sit in or easy to take out as well. If I lived nearby I'd probably be here a lot! I got the matcha latte - they do offer ceremonial matcha as an upgrade but I opted for the original one. I love that they have Japanese soymilk as a milk option - a unique addition to their menu that no other cafe does on island. My friend got an iced hojicha tea. They make the tea by order which I appreciate - you can tell they are using quality ingredients. The matcha latte was good - not too watery and a good ratio of matcha to milk. I will say though my friends hojicha tea was exceptional. I was surprised at how flavorful it was and I would come again for that! It was super refreshing and the hojicha taste was really strong.
I loved visiting this cafe! The coffee and matcha drinks are both high quality. They had some sample cuppings of the single origin coffee offerings. My favorite was the Gesha and my least favorite was the anaerobic honey lol. They are priced a bit higher ($12-$18) for a cup of coffee, but these are really high quality beans and each drink is pourover made with care. I tried the yo-in ceremonial matcha latte iced -- it's also offered as a thick usucha or hot latte. You can select whole milk, Japanese soy milk, or oat milk. The matcha used is 2g per drink, which is a good amount of caffeine for me. Everyone working there is friendly and has recommendations to help you personalize your drink, which is very nice. I asked questions and didn't feel like I was holding up the line. There is one large communal table inside, a bathroom further out in the plaza, and outdoor seating (a little wet from the recent rain). The vibes inside are the best cafe vibes - would have been a favorite working cafe if there was more seating, but this is more of a community third space than a read/ write/ work cafe. This was my favorite matcha place in Hawai'i. It wasn't too busy at 9:30 in the morning on a Sunday, which is more than you can say for the most popular matcha places in Seattle (Phe and Taz, and you can't personalize your drinks much there). Rikka Fika in San Diego is probably still my favorite matcha in the US, but Rikka Fika has more cafe space and isn't in a tropical climate. I'll be back to try the espress-based drinks and a hot matcha latte sometime!
Matcha Latte in Kailua, O'ahu, Hawai'i... I had Ando on my radar because I saw this business on the list of Hot New Places on my Yelp app. I dragged my dentist with me - she was looking forward to this adventure because she hadn't been to the Windward side of the island on a while. We parked behind the building for free and walked over to the spot where Empty Elle Bagels was. There's still outdoor dining and a nice interior. We opted to dine in because it's warm outside in the August humidity. The air-conditioning is much appreciated! Our drinks were served in tall glasses for a more stunning appearance! Service was very attentive, polite, and patient. The staff were courteous and knowledgeable! The Coffee sample display was interesting - we were encouraged to experience each fragrance! I got the Matcha Latte and upgraded to ceremonial matcha: wakaba - which was a smooth version - and sweetened with monk fruit! It was great! My dentist got the Hojicha Latte and liked it a lot! Thanks for the calm, simple environment! We enjoyed catching up and chatting!
Cute little Japan vibe cafe! I love and appreciate the ceremonial grade matcha and different levels that they offer! Been wanting to try this place since they opened and I'm so glad I finally made it. The workers were nice and friendly and helped make a selection. Seating: Tucked-away outdoor seating area (not too much wind) - Drinks Yo-In Matcha Latte (Japanese Soy Milk | Regular Sweetness): Perfectly balanced and creamy(almost milky taste) with a clean green tea flavor. Uji Matcha Latte (Oat Milk | Mid Sweetness): Laid-back, calm, and refreshing. Quality: Staff recommended using their 2nd and 3rd grade ceremonial matchas as latte bases. - Pastries Black Sesame Cookie: Finely crushed sesame gives it a rich, nutty profile similar to a peanut butter cookie. Cheesecakes: Both matcha and hojicha were delicious and balanced (wished for a stronger hojicha flavor, but still great). Definitely recommend! Worth the drive! read more
I always wanted to visit this cafe after seeing so much of it on social media and hearing about it. I finally had the chance to visit today and my expectations were blown away. I expected it to be good, but wow - this place is AMAZING. Upon entering their cafe you are greeted by an amazing curation of plants lining an outdoor seating area. I can see this being such a wonderful area to relax and hold outdoor events. The sunshade over the outdoor area really represents the thought that was put into it for patrons of their cafe. The drinks were absolutely perfect and some of the best I have had on-island - and I go to a lot of cafes. This was just next level and they know exactly what they are doing. The barista who took our order (Kaya) was so gracious to explain and recommend what drinks would be great to try for a first-timer. I opted for the ceremonial grade matcha Wakaba (hot) no sugar, no milk, just straight matcha, and my dad got the pour-over (hot) Kau Delvin Navarro Pacamara Washed. Both drinks were excellent in addition to the signature Matcha Basque Cheesecake which paired perfectly with the drinks. My matcha was extremely smooth and paired perfect with the cheesecake. My dad's pour-over drink changed flavors as you kept drinking it. Definitely next-level stuff. This was honestly one of the best cafe experiences I have had so far and I hope I can come here more often because it has earned its spot as one of my most favorite cafes on-island. read more

I had the most delicious Colombia El Silencio Geisha iced pourover with lychee and yuzu notes roasted by oubaitouri in Tokyo here. The baristas were very friendly and helpful in the description. I have to admit, the Tokyo butter cake (original and blueberry lemon) which was akin to an English scone was a tad dry in the middle. The mascarpone cream helped a little though! I would love to return for a matcha drink as they are clearly passionate about their craft drinks here! The space is so calming and relaxing, and they had both of Craig Mod's fine art edition books Kissa by Kissa and Things Become Other Things for reading. read more

It's a very small or cute spot for coffee lovers.I got coffee that the employees recommended and my wife got the matcha.My wife also ordered the matcha basque.There's also a sitting area outside which my kids loved.My wife brought out the drinks and the dessert. I couldn't wait to drink my coffee which was my first one of the day.It's pretty small for the price,so I was expecting to be super good.Sadly, it was pretty basic.My wife's matcha was the same.Nothing special.The best part was the dessert. It was spectacular.Like,WOW,that's was good.So if you're in Hawaii and you're in that area.Get the Matcha Basque and also try their drinks as well. read more
Ando had such a serene and calm feel to it. The decor is very minimal with light wood tables and chairs. Even the baristas behind the counter are very soft spoken, and that's a good thing. Soft instrumental music can be heard playing over the speakers as you line up to order your drink. If you're looking for quality matcha or unique pour over coffee, this is your spot. The baristas are patient, professional, and efficient behind the counter. I got the hojicha latte and it was amazing! Note that you can sweeten it with monk fruit). Cute little matcha and coffee cafe in Kailua! Small seating area inside and more outside with tables and couches surrounded by a lot plants. Good amount of street parking available if not there's some in the back too. Now to the drinks! I had an iced matcha sweetened with soy milk. It was tasty but light with your typical earthy matcha flavor. I was shocked that they didn't up charge for soy milk vs. whole milk. They also offered oat as an option. My friend ordered the espresso mojito which she loved! They also had several pour over options and hojicha. Prices are fairly on par with other matcha/coffee places. Service was fairly quick but you can tell they put the love/care into each drink. Overall had a great experience and will come back next time I'm in Kailua! read more
I have been wanting to try this place so when my day happen to place me close by with some time on my hands of course I had to come get my mid day pick me up, Matcha style! Japanese style coffee/matcha house that really brings the simple good flavors of the coffee and Matcha out! All three staff members were so sweet and helpful in helping me choose! I walked away so satisfied. I picked the Wakaba matcha with milk and monk fruit. It was so fresh tasting with a hint of pear. They are super good at their craft! read more

Cozy spot with such warm, welcoming vibes! The staff are super friendly:)) The iced coffee (cold brew) is a 10/10 in my opinion. As a big fan of matcha lattes, I have to be honest it wasn't quite my favorite. It tasted a bit watery and didn't have that creamy, smooth feel I usually look for (maybe it was the oat milk or the ratio?). I'd rate it a 5/10 but that's just my personal taste others might enjoy a lighter matcha. That said, I absolutely love the overall vibe and would 100% come back for their coffee and to support this sweet cafe. read more
After trying it out during the soft opening and enjoying my experience, I came back and was happy to see they expanded their drinks menu and added a few dessert options. Their menu has various options for both coffee and matcha. My boyfriend ordered the matcha latte (semi-sweet) and I ordered the hojicha latte (semi-sweet). I enjoyed both drinks and they were just the right amount of sweetness for me. During this past visit, they were selling Ichigo Daifuku (a mochi with strawberry and red bean paste filling) so we tried those out and plan to try out the other desserts another time. The place has a calming/zen vibe which I liked but with that, they don't plan on having WiFi. Parking: I haven't had any issues finding a spot as there is a good amount of street parking right in front and across the street. read more

It is clear that this tea shop cares about their craft! They use ceremonial grade matcha, and there are wonderful options for different flavors, sugar level/additions with natural sweeteners. Great service and knowledgeable matcha staff! Free parking out front. read more

The workers here are sooo kind (might be the owners). I came twice while visiting Kailua since it was the best matcha I've found around here, drinks are great!! Cold foam wasn't my favorite, it wasn't thick enough for my personal preference but that's not to say that no one would like it. The inside is very cute and aesthetic, perfect for studying for working, they also have outdoor seating if you want to enjoy a breeze. The hours were a little tricky when I tried to come, they had odd closed days but they were updated on Apple Maps so I didn't show up to closed doors luckily. I usually don't write reviews while traveling but I enjoyed Ando so much I wanted to leave something nice!! read more
Staff brought a table in here for us...literally the sweetest. The matcha here was slightly grainy but was honestly the best one I've had in Hawaii. It was nice and quiet inside, but fairly packed during the middle of the day. The owners dog is the cutest, and they have a drawing of the dog on one of the coffee bean bags:') read more
Super cute coffee/tea bar in Kailua! I tried the iced wakoucha black tea with yuzu honey. It was perfect - refreshing, balanced tea flavor, and subtle sweetness. They also have lots of coffee to choose from, either blend or single origin beans. And more tea options including matcha and hojicha! Matcha places have been popping up all over recently and if you're looking to get some in Kailua, this is your stop. You could also get a matcha at the crepe place next door but, trust me, it won't taste this good. Ando cafe has carved a small, almost meditative space for itself on the ma uka side of Kailua businesses area. They're still expanding their drink menu, which currently includes matcha and drip coffee. If taste and experience matter to you, then they are one of the better ones in walking distance. We also loved the selection of plants in the outdoor space. Cozy outdoor seating, great for reading or meeting up with friends. read more

Finally able to check out this place, on a rainy day. Store was still very packed. Cozy and modern decor. They have some sittings inside and outside too but it was raining so the furnitures were covered up outside. Pretty quick service. We got Hojicha Latte, Hojicha Roast Tea and Matcha Latte. Drinks were good. If we have a chance to go to Kailua side, we will definitely go back to grab drinks. Definitely a chill spot to go even by yourself or hang out with friends. Very few cafes that give the Asian cafes vibe. read more

Visited a friend while I was in the area and had the chance to stop by Ando! Firstly, I am IN LOVE with their wabi sabi interior. Something about it makes you feel right at home and cozy. ***What we ordered ~ **Matcha Latte (7/10) ~ Matcha latte wasn't bad! It was a little gritty, but tolerable. I'm glad it wasn't overly sweetened because you wouldn't taste the matcha. **Monaka (Girl's Day Special) (10/10) ~ It's so cool to see that they make their own treats in house. This was delicious! It was like a very light ice cream sandwich. It would go perfect with a cup of coffee. Overall, Honestly, such a cute place to come and chill with friends. Their indoor and outdoor seating is so cozy. Also, I highly recommend ordering from Yusuke! He's very knowledgeable and friendly! I'll totally come back again. read more

I was in the area and decided I should try something new. Came here and parked in the lot in the back. When I went in, it was empty as it was a weekday before 10am. There was another person inside and one person enjoying the outside. I knew I wanted matcha but wasn't sure which one. The barista informed me about the difference in the ceremonial grade ones so I decided to try it. I got it sweetened. The only thing I was a little bummed about was it was $14. But maybe because it was ceremonial grade? It was good. The barista also asked if I wanted it to be more sweeter but I liked it just the way she made it. My friend does want to try here, so I'll come back. I do like how cute this place is. read more
