There aren't enough good things I can say about this place. First of all, the ATMOSPHERE. Walking in feels like stepping into the warmest, most welcoming home. The floral arrangements, the décor, the attention to detail... everything makes you feel like you're visiting an old friend. I feel like Odysseus finally making it home to Penelope. And then... THE FOOD. Omg. Everything is delicious. I've been here a few times now and they have never disappointed. I absolutely love the roast pork, but honestly, you can't go wrong with anything on the menu. Here's my completely unbiased (very biased) ranking: Petiscos - Kind of like a charcuterie board for bad bitches (i.e. me). 5/5 Sardines - 5/5. I use the sauce for everything. Cod Balls - 5/5. I would rub these on my face if I could. Bolo de Bolacha - Like tiramisu, but with experience. One of my favorites. Branzino - This fish is so soft and flavorful, and the salad it comes with is incredible. It takes a little longer to prepare, so order it first! Pistachio Rum Cake - Also one of my favorites. I genuinely can't choose. It's buttery, delightful, and just the right amount of sinful. Pastéis de Nata - A classic for a reason. The best custard tarts you'll ever have. I could eat one every morning with a cup of tea. Medeiros ʻOhana Celebration Cake - Chocolate. Cherry. Goodness. That's all I have to say. Arroz Doce - Think crème brûlée meets rice pudding. AMAZING. I've had it both warm and cold, and honestly, both are incredible. If you're looking for a dessert to take with you and eat in the car on the way home (because somehow you'll still have room), this is the one. Basically... just go. The cod & potato gratin was nice. The cod and potatoes were layered. This was delicious. However, I think it may have been better with a bit more béchamel as I was looking for that sauce one comes to expect with gratin. Pot Roast was superb. This is our second time here and it didn't disappoint. Service this night was a little slower as they were short staffed. They do have walk in seating but best get reservations as the walk in seats fill up quickly. If you sit at the bar, bring a sweater as it'll be cold. This was truly an unforgettable dinner. The unassuming store front belies the amazing interior design and decorations. You are quickly greeted at the front, spotting a modern but warm bar top in the distance in front of you. Panning left as you walk in, you'll see that every table is uniquely situated with the feel of a Spanish/European home feel. You are immediately captivated by the ambiance, the soft chatter from guests, and aromas that peak through the kitchen. The food on the menu is selectively chosen, and having nearly ordered most of the dishes due to having a party of 8, they were all wonderful. You won't go wrong with any dish. Of the appetizers, the sausage, and the wings were to DIE FOR - Ordered 2-3 orders of each by the end of the night. Of the main dishes: Fresh Branzino, Piri Piri Chicken, Vina Dalhos, Alcatra.... It was all wonderful in flavor, presentation, and feel. They all shared one massive theme that was noticeable: Freshness, balance of acidity and spice, and play of fire. If I had to nit pick, the piri piri was a bit overcooked, as it came out not as moist. But the other dishes carried the restaurant into 5 star territory. Service was good - attentive and friendly. The desserts were out of this world. Just get them all. But if you can't, the crème brûlée rice pudding was one of the best I've had with beautiful texture, mouth feel, and balance in vanilla and brown sugar! We were pretty excited to try out the Portuguese food here since we were heading to Portugal. I am writing this after my trip to Portugal. Reservation is a must as spots are available one month out. Must be popular! The restaurant's ambiance and decoration felt so cozy and homie feeling. Service was excellent. We ordered a variety of dishes to try. Here are my thoughts about the dishes. - Linguica assada: sausage on fire, such an amazing presentation. Not much of a sausage eater, but my partner liked it. I thought it was a little bit salty. But not bad. - Cod fish potatoes croquette: I enjoyed this appetizer. Crispy and flavorful. Also quite filling. - Portuguese soup - a little on the salty side, but pretty good. -Vinha d alhos- shredded pork with a savory and vinegary taste. I liked it. - Alcatra (roast pork): shredded pork was so tender, flavorful too -Fisherman's stew: There was a savory and sour taste to the stew. I like that it came with a bread ( kind of like focaccia). Soo good dipped in the stew. -Pasteis de nata: OMG! The best part. This dessert was so fresh, so crispy, and so delicious! - Vinho verde (green wine): I don't usually drink alcohol. But I'm quite amazed how good this wine was. The big downside for me was that we were seated right where the AC was blasting so it made the experience not as enjoyable. Thankfully I brought my jacket but even then, I was freezing. I was looking around to see if we could move somewhere else but they don't have much two seater options; the best one was the table against the wall so it avoids the AC... another small downside was our server's attitude. She kinda seemed like she didn't want to be there. She wasn't the worst but a more friendlier, welcoming attitude would of been nice We ordered a decent amount of food: Bolinhos de Bacalhau (Cod + Potato Croquettes), Salt and Vinegar Onion Rings, Caldeirada De Pescadora (Fisherman's Stew), Alcatra (Pot Roast), and Pasteis De Nata (Portuguese Custard Tarts) The two appetizers were one of our favorites! I don't know how they get it so light and crispy and paired with the herb mayo sauce (from the croquettes) gave it a nice tanginess. The entree portions were huge! We could of easily shared because we came out super full. I was pretty shocked by the amount of seafood the Fisherman's Stew came with and for $30, it was so worth it! I definitely recommend adding a bread basket to soak up the extra soup (they only give one) or I wish they had rice to pair alongside with it. Located across Kailua Elementary, Faria is quite possibly one of the best restaurants on the island. The prices are fair and the food is spectacular. Faria offers great Portuguese food. I've never thought I'd enjoy food out of my usual stuff I eat. PARKING Street parking was what we found. There are a couple of stalls right in front of the entrance but I do suggest parking outside RESTAURANT Clean and dimly lit, but you can still get enough light. Kitchen and the restaurant are is clean. Waiters and staff is super friendly and will guide you to the right dishes. Our party did enjoy the different types of cocktails they offered. The restaurant is casual so you don't have to dress fancy of you don't want to. FOOD I don't I disliked anything here. The BOLINHOS DE BACALHAU was so good. We could have easily eaten 2 orders with our party of three. Salt and vinegar wings were super crispy with lots of flavors. Pot roast was great too. You might wanna order the bread basket to scoop up all the goodness on the bottom. My wife had the whole Bransino fish which was crispy and also packed with flavor. The Piri Piri chicken with potatoes. The chicken had excellent flavor and it was tender. The Piri Piri sauce, that comes in a chicken bottle was a nice addition to all the dishes. Faria is in that spot which used to be Mojito Cafe (RIP). Came here on a whim on a Thursday night. Not too crowded but we did make reservations (from their website). I wish they'd use Open Table, it's so convenient. We were seated promptly. We were served water quickly and then our server brought out our menus. I already knew what I wanted. We ordered the sardines for a starter. Delicious, and I'm not a sardine person. Even my date said the dish was amazing. I got the pot roast and my date had the piripiri chicken. Both dishes were bangers, and cooked to perfection. My pot roast was situated in a bowl on top of mashed potatoes and cabbage and a jus that was so flavorful. The chicken was also great. Well seasoned. And their homemade piri piri hot sauce was DELICIOUS. I'd buy bottles of that stuff. We also shared a "lemon scented" cheesecake that had berries and some granola-like stuff that was delicious. Street parking is widely available. 10/10 would recommend. read more

I was told that not all their dishes were stellar and now that I've experienced this I can attest to such. Really had a hankering for shrimp & chose the Mozambique although I was forewarned it was spicy and others have sent it back. I suggested if they would adjust the amount of sauce in the dish. Nope not possible as this is how the dishes are prepared & each dish tells a story. Ok, I should have asked to hear the story. But we know anything is possible and my request was not ridiculous.... I do enjoy spicy but honestly the peri peri sauce overpowers the excellently cooked shrimp & couscous. Unfortunately I could not finish it. Since it was my birthday I should have something I'm throughly enjoying. It was taken back and replaced with the peri peri chicken. Now the funniest thing is I am familiar with peri peri sauce. Expected more from this chicken dish but it really was too mild. I didn't mind that it wasn't super succulent but it lacked in flavor. However the cabbage and potatoes that accompanied it were lovely. I still like this restaurant overall in spite of a mildly disappointing experience. I also would have appreciated if they did not charge me $34 for the dish I could not finish on my bd. Honestly, Goen would never do that. It's very rare every dish in a restaurant is excellent. I took a detour out of my normal town foodie routine and ventured to Kailua for a birthday meal at Faria with friends. Our party of 7 was seated at a large table and had the pleasure of sharing several family style appetizers, salad, home baked bread and delicious entrees. It was my first experience having Portuguese cuisine outside of friends homes growing up, and they definitely curate a cozy, family environment that is welcoming to small and large groups alike. Our server was incredibly friendly and explained the entire menu including specials to us in a way nothing short of artistic. The best part was everything tasted as delicious as it sounded!! Came back to Faria for my birthday, I love this place. Just as charming as the last time, and this time we were seated at an intimate table near the bar. We ordered a bottle of Aviana, Portuguese red blend wine. Pão Caseiro, their House Bread Basket severed with a savory butter and sweet cream. Sardinhas, a sardine skillet in a garlicky tomato sauce - phenomenal. Sardines are imported from Portugal and have this rich and salty umami flavor that complements the acidity of the tomatoes. Alcatra or pot roast, my hunny picked this entree. In not sure what I was expecting, it's more than a simple pot roast over mashed potatoes though. It has this rich gravy from the roast that added an extra delicious layer to the dish. Caldeirada De Pescadora aka Fisherman's Stew - a MUST. We came back specifically for this stew, think cioppino, but not. And for dessert, I don't know! It was a special of the day, so it wasn't on the menu! I had the most wonderful time at Faria! The restaurant is absolutely breathtaking! The restaurant is beautiful and inviting! Feels like home, but exudes elegance. I love the sardines can and spam cans, paying homage to its roots. The family portraits tugged at my heart, and the signature Portuguese roosters made me smile. Even the bathroom is gorgeous, and equipped with little thoughtful toiletries such as hand lotion, mouthwash and candies! The staff is unbelievably friendly and kind. The service was memorable, as everyone worked hard to provide a magical experience. Our server took great care of us, anticipating our every need. The food is delicious! My boyfriend and I loved the salt and vinegar wings. We inhaled them. As a seafood lover, the fisherman's stew was an absolute dream. The tomato-y herb stew actually healed me. My boyfriend loved every bit of his pot roast, down to the last drop. If we were hungrier, we would have gotten drinks and dessert--I guess we'll have to come back! Dinner in Kailua, O'ahu, Hawai'i... My dentist is quite smart and keeps up with trends such as new restaurants. She read an article in "Honolulu Magazine" about Faria and said that reservations are booked months in advance. I had to check it out... I made reservations online via the Toast app. It emailed me 4 times - once on the day before the dinner and 3 times before the dinner on the day of the dinner - about a modification to my reservation. It looked like the time changed from 6:45pm to 8:45am. I called the restaurant to verify. They couldn't understand the "modification" and didn't see any change on their side. I screenshoted the email and sent it to Sheldon. When I got to the restaurant, I showed it to him and the owner. They contacted Toast where the situation will be monitored. PARKING: there are 3 free stalls right in front of the restaurant. I found a free parking spot on the street in front of Kailua Library. There are metered street stalls along other streets that are free after 6pm or so. SERVICE: Hit and miss. The receptionist was very personable - as was the bartender and the owner. The servers were a bit off. One gal would say she's bringing takeout boxes, but got distracted by the other server who ended up bringing the takeout boxes after we were asked again. ENVIRONMENT: noisy with muted lighting. I felt calm, but a bit sleepy. Maybe it was food coma? Anyway, I had to stay alert because the place was packed. I thought that someone would bump into our table! Everyone was talking and I felt like I was yelling, especially when I had to repeat myself because my dentist couldn't hear me... LOL! We liked the decor - and appreciated the numerous rosaries at the entrance... and candles for local chefs! FOOD: we shared the bread basket which had 3 types of bread and 2 kinds of butter... yummy! I ordered the pot roast with mashed potatoes and cabbage. I liked the tender beef! The potatoes helped to balance out the savory gravy. (I had to drink more water than normal.) I took leftovers home! That 2 month wait for our reservation was absolutely worth it! We heard phenomenal things from friends, so my Husband and I decided to celebrate our one year wedding anniversary here with our immediate Family (a table of 8). There are three designated parking stalls ( 1 handicap) and a bunch of street parking in the area as well as the huge open lot behind which shares parking with Cinnamon's. The interior is absolutely beautiful! You can tell they spent a pretty penny to revamp the space from the previous owner. The walls were covered in beautiful rustic/boho decor and photos but it didn't seemed cluttered, it was actually very interesting to look at. THE FOOD!! I'm no connoisseur of Portuguese cuisine but everything was phenomenal! We had a huge spread! The Tin Fish Board, S&V wings, Bread Basket ( I would pass if you are getting the Board bc it's the same bread). My Piri Piri Chicken had the perfect amount of seasoning and spice with the crispiest skin. I highly recommend the Bacalhau salad! It really was a lot of food and the price point I thought was incredibly reasonable. Example, my Dad wanted the Branzino which was MP ($55) .. that same fish was $80 at Arancino and it was prepared terribly and way smaller. Service was top notch!! Never felt happier to blow money at an establishment before. The Restaurant was the place to be this past Saturday night.. Our reservation was at 5pm and we were maybe the 4th party there? by 6pm every table occupied but we still had exceptional service by every single staff member.. I had noticed a review touching on the "local/race" card and as residents of both Kailua and Nalo, we were mixed in with other Kamaʻāina, military, and tourist and observed that everyone was treated respectfully and served just the same. However, if you don't get your way in certain request.. pulling the race card is a bit much also considering majority of the Staff looked very much local lol. Also, they never asked if we were celebrating anything and we never shared the occasion bc we weren't expecting anything so we ordered a couple of Desserts off the menu and the Kailua Bay Ice Cream and Pistachio Cake were divine! My husband's cousin highly recommended here, so we decided to try! My husband(according his mother, he has 5/8 Portuguese blood), his cousin, her husband, and me came to 6:30 p.m. reservation(this was only available when we tried to make reservation) and inside restaurant was packed!! We got the vinha d'alhos and fisherman's strew. This is our regular order (yes we have tried other things, yes it was delicious too) and just as always, the food was awesome. We tried the crème brûlée rice pudding and ordered the pistachio rum cake. The desserts are wild. So good that I really consider stopping in just for the cake. The service was awesome as usual. After an amazing trip to Portugal we were excited to hear we could be transported back through this culinary experience. Faria definitely delivered in ambiance, decor and a plus with Fado music humming in the background. Their pacific-Portuguese fusion really transports you as a local, plantation keiki and world-wide traveler. We just ate at Faria's Portuguese Restaurant in Kailua. The food was truly amazing!! The Sardinhas skillet was just about as fantastic as food could ever get!!We talked about licking the plate, but of course we stopped ourselves!Prices were quite reasonable and our server, Charley, was so kind and friendly and we enjoyed our meal tremendously!! The Bolo de Queijo (Cheesecake) was a perfect end to a fabulous dinner. I want to go back again tomorrow night! read more

A nice celebratory dinner with my daughter and soon to be son-in-law. Faria is a quaint, warm, welcoming restaurant, that to no surprise has become a difficult reservation to secure. We were seated promptly, waters brought, drink orders taken, and menus and the evening specials provided. We tried a myriad of different dishes including the House Bread Basket (good but pricey), Garlic Soup, Fisherman's Stew, Garlic Pork, and Red & Green Shrimp Pasta. Our plates were licked clean. Don't leave without trying their infamous desserts. The Lemon Cheesecake was good, and the Crème Brûlée Rice Pudding was our favorite. Sadly they were out of Custard Tarts. The Open Table online reservation system asked if we were celebrating anything, which we were....my daughter's wedding; however, neither the hostess or server(s) ever mentioned it. Food , Service , Ambiance . We stumble upon this place when plans changed. We headed to Kailua to try a different restaurant. Since we're were already in Kailua, we thought we would find a different spot in the area. It was a Wednesday evening so we didn't think it would be difficult to slide in. We got to the restaurant just a bit after they open. Maybe within the first 1/2 hr. We were greeted by the nicest host. I believe he may be the owner or manager. He told us usually there isn't an issue with walk ins at 5 ish on a week night but I appears something was going on and he tried his best to accommodate us but was unable to. He invited us back on another night which we took his offer. Finally returned on another night (this time we made reservations!) We were greeted by the same gracious host. We were seated right away. We ordered the Bread + Butter to start, Vinha D'alhos, Alcatra and Caldeirada De Pescadora. Everything was delicious. My fav... Vinha D'alhos! Now for dessert..... one of the dessert specials for the night, a pistachio rum cake. It was so moist and flavorful and a regular menu item, Pasteis De Nata which is like a burnt custard in a flaky pastry shell. This was delicious too! First experience was so fabulous, I made reservations for another night! I ordered the same dish.... Vinha D'alhos and it was just as delicious! This time we ordered the Linguiça Assada to start which is Linguica sausage served over a flame. Another fav! Unfortunately no pistachio cake this time so we ordered Pasteis De Nata and the Bolo De Bolacha. I'm so happy we found this place. It's a small restaurant straight into Kailua from the Pali Hwy. There are a couple of parking stalls + one handicap stall right in front of the restaurant. Also, metered street parking and a metered lot in the back. read more

Thank you to my sister in law for planning a wonderful family dinner. This restaurant is located in Kailua. Please make reservations. It's a small family owned restaurant. The Decor inside is beautiful. Touch of Portugal with a modern twist. The food is a mix of local Portuguese food. Because I love seafood - I ordered the fishermen's stew. Omg. It's was delicious. So glad they were able to fit all of our family in one table. We got to do some family style appetizers. Sorry I forgot what it was called but everything was awesome. Family date night so ventured through the mountain to try this new place. Cute place. Workers suuuuuper nice without being ingratiating. Only 1 restroom...didn't have to wait, but I did use it 3 times so if ever there is a time when only people with small bladders eat there, there will likely be a line. Ordered bread basket as soon as we got there so the baby would have something to eat...she was getting hangry. Buggah ate like 2 whole breads! I def ate too much also. One of the breads super crispy top, and airy inside...that was my fave but was super oily. Cocktails sounded pretty good, but I don't like sweet, so after discussion with the waitress, decided on a bloody mary. Good but nothing special. I'm sure there would have been ways to make some of the drinks less sweet, but didn't want to mess with the recipes since most were Gin based and I don't know Gin enough. Had a glass of wine after that was nice. Fish Tin is literally fish in a tin. Think they just crack um open, sprinkle green onions and then serve it with tsukemono and breads. Normally like sardines, but I guess we typically dress it up when we eat it...Hawaii style kine. Salt and Vinegar Onion Rings were good as far as onion rings go. Definitely no Salt and Vinegar on there. I thought it was just me, but hubs confirmed it. Baby liked it, but wouldn't have gotten it other than for the S&V. Hubs got the pot roast. That was super tasty. But except for the flaked off parts, it was dry. He ended with a hunk of meat that I thought was bone when I tried to cut into it. I got the Vinha D'Alhos. This is something the hubs makes from a recipe from his podagee friend, so I was looking forward to it. It was soft and was tasty on the outside, but lacked something once that part was gone. It wasn't in the sauce long enough? Maybe could have used a touch of salt? Definite potential. Overall, an okay meal. Maybe still working through the kinks in the kitchen? I know they mentioned being short staffed FOH. read more

Service was really great and food was good! If you're looking for a nice family owned restaurant with a really warm atmosphere this is a great choice! I had never tried Portuguese food but enjoyed my experience! If you're in the area I would definitely try it! Prices are a bit high, but I think the overall experience makes it worth it! read more

First time coming here and as a vegetarian I was a bit worried since Portuguese and local cuisine is meat heavy. When I made an online reservation I asked if any entrees could be made vegetarian. I was ok if not and didn't expect to be accomodated because I was excited for apps, bread, and dessert. What I really appreciated is that the chef/owner emailed me the morning of the reservation saying he can't really add any new vegetarian menu items but he could modify 3 different dishes to be vegetarian and that he had informed the wait staff about our request. I so appreciate how he went out of his way to email me with these details. We ended up doing the pasta and taro burger as mains, the bread basket, polenta fritters, and two desserts. Everything was homely and good. No complaints. Loved the ambiance, it felt warm and welcoming. Great addition to the food scene. read more

We went to celebrate a promotion a few weeks ago- everything (food, service, ambiance) was excellent, from top to bottom. We sat at the bar; the bartender gave us great recommendations (especially for people not well versed in anything wine related) and let us sample the house made sangria (excellent!). Not only was the food and service top tier, but the prices weren't astronomically high for a nice restaurant with hard-to-get reservations! That is a rare find in Hawaii. Will 100% go again, worth every penny! read more

A happening place in Kailua! Great food, great service and casual atmosphere. Packed on a Thursday night. A Portuguese restaurant with adapted Hawaiian flair. The food was delicious and interesting. My favorites were the chicken wings, polenta fritters, bean and garlic soups, branzino, shrimp turnovers, pot roast and nata. The puri puri chicken and bacahlau were a little underwhelming but still good. When we got to dessert we were very full but did try their nata...delicious! A wonderful addition to the food scene and plenty of street and municipal parking lot. There's a very small 3 car parking in front as well. read more

I come here weekly. The menu is special, just come on in and see for yourself. The staff is more than just special, they're a family and will make you feel apart of it too! The bartender was so thoughtful to let us try their Mezcal that was in the Margarita El Koch Artesanal and it was strong and to the point. The server was so sweet and informative of the family friend connection and shared these are original recipes for their grandmother. Like Stepping Into Grandma's Kitchen... If Grandma Made Incredible Portuguese Food Five stars, (I'd give 10 if I could). Faria is an absolute gem and one of those rare restaurants that instantly feels special. Tucked away on a quiet corner in Kailua, Faria would be easy to miss, and that would be a real shame. Before I even get to the food, what stood out most is how this place makes you feel. From the moment you walk in, it feels like you are being welcomed into someone's home. Sheldon, the bartender, is the best, warm, engaging, and genuinely passionate about food, wine, and spirits, and he truly cares about making sure you have a great night. Charley was our server, but honestly felt more like a long-lost friend. Friendly, knowledgeable, and effortlessly welcoming. You can feel this is a family operation, with Kawehi, Kim, and even Mom in the kitchen, and that love shows up in every dish. The decor is cozy, charming, and nostalgic, like stepping into grandma's kitchen. I am not Portuguese, but I learned roosters are a big deal, and you will find plenty here. One of the highlights is a dining table that actually came from the home of Grandma and Grandpa, which makes the space feel even more personal. Reservations are encouraged, as this place fills up, though I personally love sitting bar side. That said, the tables are incredibly cozy as well. We started with the warm shrimp, house salad, and Portuguese bean soup, which is an absolute must-order. The soup was rich, hearty, and deeply flavorful, loaded with tender beans, smoky pork, linguiça, and a comforting broth that tastes like it has been simmering all day. The kind of soup that warms you from the inside out and feels like pure comfort in a bowl. The salad was light and refreshing, and Sheldon recommended a Portuguese wine that paired perfectly. From there we enjoyed the salt and vinegar chicken wings and the flaming pig sausage, which was flamed tableside and not only fun to watch but delicious. For dinner, we shared the chicken, crispy on the outside, juicy on the inside, with potatoes that were hot, golden, and perfectly crisp. Sheldon also crafted some great cocktails, shared a few excellent bourbon pours, and we finished with an espresso martini for a nightcap. Faria is warm, inviting, full of heart, and serving food that clearly comes from a place of love. If you are in Kailua, you have to come here. Perfect for date night, a small group of friends, or anyone who appreciates great food and genuine hospitality. Love this Local Style Portuguese restaurant. I like their home made soecial recipe drinks! Ordered: -Sardines in tomato sauce (forgot portuguese name) - reminded me of my momʻs recipe and so good to mop up the sauce with the bread. - Bread basket: this is needed for the dipping. - Garlic soup: Imagine a good clam soup without the clams. - piri piri chicken: Seasoned well and moist. This is not the spicy style common in Portugal. Request heat if like. Wasʻnt the fave. Sardines are still number one here. - Basil ice cream: Order it. Itʻs refreshing. - Ice cream special with brandy (forgot name). Its good. Little cookie topper was delish. - Pistachio cake: YES! Moist and light. Service- Pleasant and Kind. This is a bit on the pricey side but worth the experience. It can get a bit chilly . Request sitting by the window away from the a/c or bring a sweater. read more
