This is my first time to dine at Buzz's although I have dined at Buzz's when they were also at Pearl City . I must say it's a gem and ambiance here near the beach is great. Could tell it was a very popular spot and people kept coming in but luckily we made reservations. The menu was not very extensive but it had a good variety of beef ...chicken .. vegan and seafood . I ordered the Teriyaki Flap steak 6oz with rice/vegetables and my friend ordered a Teri burger not on the menu but the waitress said it could be done as only had a Teriyaki chicken burger . My Teriyaki flap steak was okay (little on the dry side) but was tasty. On the other hand ..my friend's Teri burger was not what she expected as the burger was grilled but Teri sauce on the side . So was not like a grilled Teri burger which was marinated in Teri sauce . ( server did not mention this) The server was very nice and offered us a birthday treat ... Vanilla ice cream in a brownie in honor of my birthday. It was very nice to sit and dine comfortably and chat without being rushed. We walked into Buzz's on a Sunday around noon during Mother's Day weekend. The place was absolutely packed -- buzzy in every sense of the word. Families hovered around the hostess stand hoping for a table, conversations floated through the air like music, and somewhere beneath it all you could feel the pulse of a place that had been feeding people and creating memories for generations. "There was a guy, his name was Buzz, a greater guy there never was..." Two haole boys and a haole girl from Oxnard, California stood in the middle of it all -- directly across the Pacific from our own modest beach town known as the Strawberry Capital of the World. Farming communities understand something important: the sacred relationship between people, food, and land. Buzz's felt like it understood that too. The sun-kissed, freckled-faced hostess greeted us warmly. The wait? About an hour. Not surprising. Places with soul usually require patience. Knowing my way around restaurants, I told her the best seat in the house is almost always the bar. That's where the stories live. That's where you meet the people making the magic happen. To my surprise, she smiled and welcomed us in. And there it was -- the perfect bar. Open, timeless, alive with character. Across from us sat an elegant woman in traditional Hawaiian attire, facing the ocean, staring through the front windows like she had done it a hundred Sundays before. She had it right - positioned on the best side of the bar. You don't turn your back to the view of the ocean, so we sat next to her. The room hummed with warmth and familiarity. It didn't feel transactional. It felt communal. "Seat da people, spock da chicks, Buzzy always got his pick." Then came the bartender -- commanding the room with charisma, warmth, and effortless aloha. Her energy moved through the restaurant like a tide. Every server who approached her bar carried away drinks and a little piece of her spirit. You could feel it. The laughter became contagious. The hospitality felt genuine. I wasn't drinking that day, but she kept the non-alcoholic daiquiris flowing with the same care and enthusiasm as every cocktail she served. Somewhere between the ocean breeze, the company, and the aloha spirit, I started questioning whether my drink secretly had alcohol in it. Maybe that's just what happens when people make you feel welcome. And then there was the food. The Teriyaki Steak was exceptional -- tender enough to cut like butter, rich with flavor, perfectly balanced alongside rice and vegetables. My cousin ordered the Fish Burrito and couldn't stop talking about it. By the end of the meal he declared it the best thing he'd eaten on the island. Very expensive and limited menu. Food was just okay, but given the price, was underwhelming. Got the shrimp scampi (~6-8 shrimp) for $41 and friends got the steaks with asparagus, mashed potatoes, and baked potato for ~$60 a piece. Steaks were cooked properly and sides were fine. Caesar salads to start, they were great and tasted fresh. Good size for a starter salad. We got margaritas and an aperol spritz for drinks, and the lava cake for dessert. The host was absolutely lovely and sat us on the porch with a tree and ambient, cozy, lighting with Hawaiian music in the background. However, our server, again given the price, was disappointing. We started off with drinks and were told any modifications to drink could not be sent back or comped if we didn't like them because the manager "isn't the type to do that". Our drink order then came out wrong and we drank them anyway. When asking between menu items, she recommended the scampi over the mahi because "anyone can grill mahi". For a $40 fish, I hoped for more given other experiences on the island at a similar price point. We were then passed off to two other servers throughout the night with no formal introduction. With a tab of $300, we were hoping for a better food, drink, and service experience. I've been a fan of the kiawe grilled steaks here for well over 15 years. Love the service here because it is always on point with servers showing aloha spirit. The interior has that rustic old-school Hawaii Beachside cottage feel which I really love and reminds me of home. I miss the old Pearl city location, but I'm glad they're still in business. My uncle found this cute spot while we were sightseeing the island. The cutest and cutest little restaurant. We stopped by for lunch and I feel like we got there just on time because shortly after they got really busy! I ordered a lychee martini that was a tad strong but still tasty. Love this kitschy place with personality and lovely, friendly service! I finally got to go here for dinner with some friends last night as I've been hearing about it for quite some time. They have a variety of cuts of beef, pork, chicken, plus a couple fish choices that can be cooked any way you like - Chinese steamed, blackened, fried, etc. Since it's a steakhouse, I wanted the Top Sirloin of course (6 oz was just right for me - tasty and cooked to perfection!) with Spinach Salad (love this refreshing salad with bacon bits and egg), plus a side order of garlic mashed potatoes (fluffy and ono!) - perfect meal and completely happy and satisfied! Family lunch with cousins. The ambience is one of "fine beach dining". Nautical decor. Has a local lore of the "best steak house in town". I ordered an Arnold Palmer that was very good along with the fresh fish Burrito. The party shared the steamed artichoke. It was served with course sea salt sprinkles and a mayonnaise based dip sauce. In my opinion the artichoke was under cooked as the petals were difficult to detach from the heart. The device was very attentive as the staff checked multiple times on drink refills and other requests. An old-school, timeless local gem that's been around since 1962, The restaurant sits right across the street from beautiful Kailua Beach. Went during lunch time at around 2 pm on a Saturday. It was a little bit of a wait, maybe 20 minutes. Then we were seated inside. They had a special for lunch which was Fish and Chips, so I decided to get that. My friend got the Baby Top Sirloin. We both really enjoyed our meal. The fish and chips were not greasy and perfectly crispy, and had a good sauce and slaw. For dessert, I decided to try the Cocolada dessert. All it really was is vanilla ice cream with a bit of toasted coconut on top and limes to squeeze. It was good but it was ultimately just ice cream. Came with a lot though, and was $9. Our waitress was also super nice and funny. Overall I had a good lunch experience. I will say, I was seated in the back area and there was an excessive amount of flies flying around and kept trying to land on our food. I give it 3.5 stars, rounded to 4, mainly because of our amazing server, Leslie, who was incredibly attentive, knowledgable, and helpful. I don't appreciate that we showed up with a reservation but our table was still finishing dessert, so there was still a 20-30 min wait. I don't believe that parties should have to wait when they have a reservation. We ended up opting into sitting in the "walk-in" section to be seated more quickly, which is just off the parking lot so lacking in ambiance and with diesel fumes from passing cars. Food was pretty good - I think that fish is the way to go. We had the crispy snapper, the fish special for the day, and it was absolutely delicious. I don't think you can go wrong with any of the fish dishes - on the flip side the sashimi was not amazing. I would give it a B-. I also enjoyed the artichoke. We sat at the bar around 1ish on a Sunday and it was pretty chill and easy to walk into. Our bartender, Sophie, was extremely friendly and super nice! Received our food and drinks within a few minutes and everything was great! Veggies were over powered by the garlic, but it wasn't the worst thing! Sirloin was perfect and delicious!! My husband had the fish'n chips and liked his dish! Overall experience was great! We had tried to come back for the dinner options, however, it was slammed and over a 90'minute wait for the bar. This past visit, I just asked our server, Shiloh, for any of his recommendations and was not disappointed at all. We started with the Artichoke Surprise which has parm and garlic butter on it. Very very tasty. He recommended the Special which was a New York steak along with asparagus and an amazing black pepper cream sauce. Steak was cooked to perfection. Sauce was amazingly flavorful and balanced. I had the greens/spinach salad before hand which was just the right size, not too big nor too small. Paired with any of their amazing desserts, just an amazing meal through and through. I love that one can make reservations here. I just get there early in case the parking lot is full which means I need to park across the street at Kailua Beach. But not this time. I scored a space right next to the entrance! Now on to the food. I always get the tender delicious calamari steak. The items aren't over priced and are decent for the area.. but when do you ever go out to eat and receive so little fries, there's none to take home and the kids are even asking for more from their adult plate? There's a first for everything. For the other good things; the teriyaki steak was well flavored and cooked medium rare as requested. The boys said their burgers were good. The fish was good, the coating was not too thick. The tartar sauce was really good. The pieces were just too small and the serving lacked. I never tire of dining here at this always busy restaurant across from Kailua beach. There is indoor and outdoor dining. Inside is a Warren of rooms and there is a small bar. Service is always excellent We go the calamari steak dinner (my favorite. Full of flavor and also served as an appetizer), ribeye steak (tender, juicy, flavorful and cooked perfectly). The soup ( chicken and spinach with mushrooms) was soooo good. Dinner salads are good, as are the garlic mashed potatoes. We had bread pudding for dessert.
