    Butter cake!
    Cindy B.

Ooohhh WOW! I think this is my favorite fancy birthday dinner so far. I am a huge fan of Mastro's on the mainland: elegant atmosphere, attentive service, live music, Flintstone-size steaks, and their sinful butter cake. Gaslamp brings that to the Windward side. French Laundry did not disappoint - it was a feast for the eyes and stomach. Watching our swinging tomahawk arrive, the beef fat drip into the mashed potatoes, to the plating, made for one very happy birthday girl. And when it came time for desserts, the last mentioned item was BUTTER CAKE. Happy birthday indeed.

Rounding up from a 4.5 because overall the food and the service and the ambiance were all incredible. We had a reservation for a fairly large party (this is a TINY space!) booked well in advance, and the staff were so helpful at communicating the policies and planning the evening to accommodate our group. Everyone LOVED the experience. The presentations were all great, the food was incredible. As one member of our party said "I love how much fire this place uses!" Torched roasted garlic, smoked old fashioned, even a fire dancer! The only thing we ordered that felt subpar was the creme brulee... it was fairly loose and lacking the signature "tappable" layer on top. The tiramisu, on the other hand, was praised as one of the best they've had. It is pricey, but it is also easy to split quite a few of the entrees as they are quite a large quantity of food and definitely worth it for the atmosphere and experience overall. Highly recommend going with friends and sharing a handful of sides, apps, etc, to be able to try more!

The better half of the world food tour duo trekked over to Kailua and met me at Gaslamp, on Hoolai St. The parking lot was full so we both found parking on the street. Hah, when I got back to my car, I found another car illegally parked behind me. So, parking appears to be an issue in this area. There is no signage outside that tells you it's Gaslamp, the signage says Kailua Town Pub and Grill. You have to go past the left side of the bar to a door, give a wait staff the secret passcode (which I failed to remember) and be taken through a door behind you, up a steep staircase to a small space overlooking the bar downstairs. There are about six tables and it's a very dark space. Natalie was our server and we started with a Botanist gin & tonic ($18) and a glass of J Lassalle Champagne ($25). I didn't have any details about the wine, but it was not complex and was lacking bubbles. We ordered the Kagoshima Wagyu Carpaccio($32) and the Escargot Bone Marrow ($42) to start. The carpaccio was a visual treat with capers, thin slices of radish, dill, pecorino and caviar. It tasted as good as it looked. The bone marrow was even better ... two large bones topped with garlic buttered escargot, decorated with blistered tomatoes, and an arugula salad with two pieces of grilled sourdough. So unctuous, so decadent, so divine! We split two entrees ... The Wagyu Sampler (market price, it was $179), and the Black Truffle Risotto ($54). We added extra truffle ($12) and a side of Miso Brussels Sprouts ($16). The sampler came with two pieces of A5 "Snow Beef", a piece of American "Wagyu" Filet Mignon, and pieces of ribeye an NY striploin, 12oz in all, and two sauces. The risotto contained sea asparagus, mascarpone and mozzarella cheeses, Hamakua mushrooms, and tomatoes. I consider the extra black truffle mandatory ... It's not special without it. We ended our meal by sharing a Tiramisu ($12) and I had an espresso ($5). The tiramisu was very good, made in the classic style with pieces of fruit on top. There was live music ... a saxophonist played soft jazz starting at 6:30pm. It was our kind of music. Service was fine ... we asked Natalie to slow down the delivery of food, and she ensured it was so. The food was great and we enjoyed our first visit to Gaslamp. One note: they apply a service charge if you use a credit card ... It seems to be the new norm. Highly recommended (4.5), even if you must search for parking.

If you're looking for something unique with fine dining energy, get dressed up and head to Gaslamp -- the nightlife vibe hits just right. Upscale, lively, and definitely an experience. And yes... caviar bumps are a must. Fancy, fun, and unforgettable.

The decor is classic speakeasy--leather, dark wood, wall shelves filled with books and an incredible back bar that glows. It's quite small and intimate, making it perfect for dates or a serious conversation. The acoustics are handled well; you can hear the jazz/blues background music, but you don't have to shout to be heard. I especially loved the food and drinks. We ordered: King Arthur, Ribeye, Baked Crab & Artichoke Dip, Truffle Fries & Panko Crusted Mac n Cheese. *** King Arthur is a 2 course meal featuring Beef Wellington and Buttered Snow Crab Claws both are delicious 10/10!! I really couldn't stop smiling after my first bite. Beef was cooked so perfect and it almost melts in your mouth! **** I am looking forward to dining here again and again.

Amazing vibes, loved the live music and fire dancer. Food was awesome. Drinks was delicious. Service was excellent.

The food is amazing, first time there last night Feb 20 2026. We had escargot bone marrow, crab & spinach artichoke dip, the yacht seafood tower, Wagyu carpaccio, lobster stuffed mushrooms, the French laundry tomahawk, Mac n cheese, asparagus, caviar bump, mushrooms and onions. Everything tasted great cooked to perfection. The service was on point, Jamie did an awesome job. Love the ambiance low light music that set the vibe right. Definitely coming back for sure.

Blown away! My boyfriend took me here for my birthday this past weekend and we don't eat red meat often, but this is by far the best steak I've had in my entire life. The beef wellington was also phenomenal. The french laundry was an A4 Wagyu Tomohawk! (definitely special occasion type of pricing, so just be aware). Service was very attentive, I felt bad for the servers because we were in the corner and it was obviously very hard for them to squeeze through people to get our food and drinks in this small speakeasy. There was a live saxophone player when we first got there, and of course... the infamous fire dancer. Honestly, such a great experience with so many things happening in such a small and intimate space. It is VERY dark though so if you struggle with reading in the dark I would probably recommend using your phone light and bringing your reading glasses for the menu! We only ended up getting one drink each but the bartender is obviously a great mixologist.

I got a shot of this at the end of my meal. Perhaps on the house, perhaps given to every guest. Very nice, very potent.

I'm the type of person who needs a nice meal from time to time. To me, nice means authentic kindness within service and food that's excellent as a standard. A dim room. Maybe some cool drinks. You know the vibe. Went solo and sat at the bar. Bone marrow appetizer - pretty darn good. Best parts were the mushrooms and escargot on top. Wild how you get literally just enough bread. PLENTY of actual bone marrow, which is really rich. Very indulgent. 4/5 Steak & Lobster - requested medium, got medium well. Really cool presentation, though my sweet server was supposed to be charring my garlic and ended up setting the rosemary on fire - lol. Brought the steak out again, it was perfect. Lobster was INCREDIBLE. Super sweet and tender. Would have appreciated a fresh serving, but I understand food costs. 4/5 Forgot the name of my drink, but it got lit on fire as well. Very cool. It came in a metal skull, lol. Not much to it taste wise. 3.5/5 Service was interesting - mostly really sweet folks. Would come again with friends. All in,

Absolutely delightful experience at Gaslamp this evening. The service was top notch with the entire staff working as a seamless team. The food was phenomenal with the steak Diane and pappardelle with Wagyu bolognese being standouts. The romantic ambiance and excellent live jazz really took the whole experience to the next level. Highly recommended, this place is a total gem!

Rules and policies that this restaurant has for their diners to follow. The no-hat policy has never been mentioned.

Do yourself a favor, don't waste your time, money, intelligence and hopes on this place. Find a different venue. Anyway -- this is Yelp, so I'll leave it at that and let others decide for themselves. You've been warned: Gaslamp Should've Been Called Gaslight - A Disappointing High-End Experience We chose Gaslamp to celebrate birthdays, expecting polished high-end service to match the upscale prices. Instead, it became one of the most uncomfortable dining experiences I've had at this caliber. The men's dress code requires a collared shirt, and closed-toe shoes. Women are simply told to "dress to impress." A no-hat policy appears nowhere -- not on the website, reservation confirmation, at check-in, or during ordering. Over an hour into our meal, a staff member announced loudly enough to turn nearby heads that my hat wasn't allowed. No explanation, no manager, no discretion. I have alopecia and wear a hat for comfort -- had I been informed, I would have prepared accordingly. Instead I was forced to remove it and sit through the rest of the evening feeling humiliated, embarrassed, and exposed in a room full of strangers. It's 2026 -- there are plenty of outfits that pair hats with collared shirts, dress pants, and formal closed-toe shoes that are equally polished and appropriate for a formal setting. To add insult, a male guest nearby sat unbothered in casual shorts all evening, way less dressy than I appeared to be. Same restaurant, different rules. This is a restaurant in Kailua, not the MET GALA in NYC. After the hat incident, everything that followed felt like a punishment. My appetizer -- confirmed by the server -- never arrived. No explanation, no replacement, no acknowledgment. At a high-end restaurant, a guest shouldn't have to chase down a confirmed order. My water went unrefilled all evening and I was otherwise ignored while my three friends received normal attention. About 15 minutes after the hat incident, a staff member checked in -- not out of genuine concern, but in a tone that quietly signaled we'd better not cause trouble. It was a Saturday night. We just wanted to get through dinner at that point since they have other policies for dining in. To briefly elaborate on the appetizer -- I originally ordered the escargot bone marrow as listed on the menu, only to be informed there was no escargot, just bone marrow. Fair enough, it was a Saturday night after all and I wasn't looking to make things complicated -- I went along with it and placed the order anyway. It was confirmed back to me. It never came. We knew about the two-hour dining window. What we didn't expect was spending most of it waiting -- over 40 minutes for entrées alone. When we'd barely started eating, we were told time was up despite the room being half-empty. No flexibility, no goodwill. The food was decent but unremarkable for the price. The mandatory gratuity, while disclosed, felt entirely unjustified. Interestingly, when it came time to pay -- tip and all -- there was suddenly no issue with us whatsoever. To be clear, this isn't about the individual staffs-- they enforce what management dictates. The failure lies with management's rigid, outdated policies, selective enforcement, lack of empathy, and complete absence when things went wrong. One of our group mentioned it was a birthday. It made no difference. My friends organized this, drove a long distance, and felt bad about how the evening unfolded -- despite doing nothing wrong. I deeply appreciate their generosity and they deserved far better. We still don't know if we were treated this way because we didn't fit a certain demographic they prefer to serve or weren't dressed elaborately enough to impress -- but when it came time to pay, our money was good enough without question. I completely lost my interest and appetite, and every single bite of my dinner was too difficult to swallow. When asked if I wanted my dinner to go, I wanted to pass but my friend told them to pack it up for her dog and I agreed -- I didn't want to waste the food, money, and time, but I also didn't want to bring something negative home that would remind me of the disaster. I agreed to treat her fur baby to a good meal. I just got gaslit, bullied and discriminated in a high end restaurant that makes me feel unsafe and bad about myself. When a restaurant imposes this many rules and policies on its diners, the very least it can offer in return is basic human decency and respect -- because at the end of the day, it is the diners who walk through that door and pay the bills that keep their gas lamps on. Respect should be mutual. Gaslamp Should've Been Called Gaslight -- and I mean that literally. The experience left me confused, doubting my own reality, and wondering how a place like this holds the ratings it does on Yelp. Regardless, respectful and consistent hospitality should never be conditional. Here, it clearly was. I won't be returning.

It's a cozy small place with really good cocktails. It has a very fun vibe to it. The food is definitely pricey, it's kinda more of a special occasion kind of place or special date night. The staff was super friendly and very attentive we will definitely go here again.

Food was amazing. Ordered the Ribeye and Lobster and man was that good! Service was good, would have wanted the drinks to come out a little faster, but still we were very well taken care of! Ambience, just perfect!

What is the grade for the wagyu tomahawk steak ? Thank you in advance.

What time and how long is the Live Jazz? Thank you for your help and time!

Jerome played the whole time we were there, and we were there from 8-10. We tipped him and bought him a drink.

We are visiting and didn't bring any dressy clothes at all. Can we go in casual clothes?

They will provide jackets for men. Men any collared shirt will work. Outside of Jeans and T shirts they'll work with you

Wondering what restaurant on the LV strip is comparable to Gaslamp? If anyone knows the answer, I would love to hear it.

I've been to speakeasy's on the mainland where you MUST order a min of two drinks per. Does Gaslamp have the same rules? My husband is in cancer treatment and is not allowed alcohol. The food looks amazing though!

No, they don't have that rule. I'm allergic to alcohol myself, so I wouldn't have been able to meet that requirement.… Read more

    Are kids allowed?

It's not good for kids because it is very dark and it's a bar. There are just a few tables and a few seat at the bar

What time is the last call for food?

I'm sorry I don't know the answer to your question. They open everyday from 4 pm to 1 am. Here's there number you can call to find out (808) 829-0226

Can we make reservations just for cocktails?

They have a $30 food minimum for each person in the party.

What is there price on Tomahawk Steak?

Are you talking about the "French Laundry" Waygu Tomahawk? It's $167

What exactly is the dress code?

From Gaslamp's text reminder: "Gentlemen are required to have closed toe shoes and a collared shirt. Ladies dress to impress, no bathing suits or gym suits. "

    Are reservations required?

Yes they are! I recommend going early

Do you have to be 21 to enter?

No. You pass through the pub for entry but any age can be in the restaurant. My daughter is 12 and loved it. (Still, it is small and upscale & pricey so you may not want to.)

The club opened in April of 2014 and features jazz, blues, classical musicians in Hawaii. This was our second time here and loved it. Tim and Carolyn (owners) are very welcoming couple who work in tandem to operate this place. Tim is the chef, artist, and manages the music events upstairs. Carolyn is the musical director for the school downstairs. All proceeds from dinner/shows help support the Manoa School of Music and the Arts downstairs. The ambiance is beautiful and well-decorated with plants, art, paintings. Tim is an artist, so you will find his paintings for sale too. We took one home during the NYE event and admire it everyday. Your ticket includes live music and a tasty 4 course gourmet meal who is cooked by Chef Tim. Just a word of warning is that the meal is on the smaller side. The dishes are served on mostly paper plates but I assume that's how they also keep the costs lower. Most of the attendees seem to be 50+ so the food might be catering to those who are older and don't eat as much. Although we ended up being content by the end with drinks. You will likely end up sitting with strangers since the tables are large, circular, and can seat up to 6-8 people. This can be a good way to socialize and make some new friends. They also have a bar that has very reasonable prices. $25 wine bottles and only $7.50 for beer/wine glasses. Cocktails available too. Highly recommend this place if you're looking for a special place to enjoy the beautiful tunes of jazz. Hard to find places like this anymore!
