Awesome bartending staff, male bartender was kind as can be, kudos to the spunky short haired server for the lovely vibes as well. We made a reservation. Got multiple texts about it being confirmed. A text 30 minutes prior to remind us and to tell us their no show policy. Just to show up and there being a tiny sign off to the side that says closed. It was weird because we've never been there before. So tons of people were in the garden drinking. The closed sign was hidden and didn't specify WHAT was closed. So we asked the bartender and he said he has no idea what happened but yeah, no one showed up today. So frustrating that nothing was said to reservation holders and that the situation wasn't made more clear. Parking sucks. I don't think we will try again. read more

We made a reservation via Resy and were seated inside at a little table. The restroom is located next to the bar. We had the Caesar salad, coconut shrimp, pianonos, steak, and garlic shrimp. The salad had too much dressing and was missing the "crunchy garbanzo crisps" and arugula lettuce that the menu's description listed. The garlic shrimp was dry and overcooked, and the steak was very rare. The best things we had were the coconut shrimp and pianonos. I was very disappointed with the steak. I couldn't eat it. Usually, they'll ask how you want steak cooked, but they didn't. So I assumed that the chef had a recommendation, such as medium and didn't think anything of it until it came out. It was rare and too fatty. I definitely expected a much better steak for $58. I ended up packing it up in a to-go box and will reheat it in my airfryer at home. We don't plan to come back. read more

After a PHENOMENAL first visit, we can back again. While waiting for my family to meet and watching a World Cup game at their sister restaurant, the owner Louie and I chatted for a while. I couldn't imagine how my second visit could be even better than the first but Louie made it happen! We talked about the history of the restaurant, offered me a tour of the bar, and let me know about all the various events and amenities he offers. The charcuterie board is great for kids and they also love the popcorn shrimp. We split the daily fish (swordfish) and the empanadas. The flan for the adults and the dole whip for the kids was the perfect way to cap off an excellent meal. This is such a charming, upscale dining experience with local ownership. I actually didn't get to eat here for dinner and only got to enjoy the Garden. My husband and I wanted to try something new in Kailua that wasn't our usual Cafe Kopi or ChadLou's, and the Garden was such a great choice! It was such a cute little space with great food and drinks, AND it was so quiet and spacious. The service was quick, wonderful, and their charcuterie board was set up so nicely. I stared with a Midnight Mezcalito drink, it was ok thought it was gonna be more smokey since they Infused the drink with smoke. Then ordered the trio empanadas(3ea) wild mushrooms medley, venison meat and herb white cheddar, they're amazing: great flavor and combination of flavors. We also ordered the piononos they were good, great mix of classic puerto rican appetizer.then we proceeded to order a dozen of their oysters and there were really fresh and light. For our main course we had the paella, flavorful with a Latino kick to it, we're told the Chef is from Puerto Rico and adds a little flavor to all plates. Very fresh and perfectly cooked rice. For desert we had the coconut cream brûlée; creamy and delicious but was missing consistency. Overall the food was great, drinks could use a little bit more punch. Located on the corner of Kainehe and Kihapai Street. May the parking gods be in your favor. Happy Hour is available from 5p-6p, Wednesday through Sunday. When you arrive here, head to the host stand that is located outside on the outskirts of where the turf grass meets the pavement. Ample open air seating outside, though the day that we went it was warm, and we opted to eat inside by the bar. We made reservations online beforehand just in case. When we were seated inside, there's a few seats at the bar, and also bench/2-top seating on the opposite wall. We were a party of 3, though we were seated next to each other, the gap was rather large, so we physically pushed our tables together. Low cocktail round tables (thus the spacing of the dishes/drinks was a bit awkward later on in the evening). The bartender came by to take our drinks but also asked us if we had reservations, because the area that we were seated in was reserved for another party at a later time. We thought this was strange, because the host up front was the one who confirmed our reservation and sat us in that very spot. Shortly after, the bartender then came back to say that it was ok for us to stay there and then proceeded to take our order. After that occurrence, the service didn't necessarily get exponentially better, but it also wasn't absolutely horrible. **NOTED UPDATE: We were at this establishment in June 2025, these pictures were not taken from 3 years ago. I have nothing to gain by 'lying'** As for the food and drinks, they were much better than we had expected which saved the whole experience of it all. We went a few weeks ago after hearing nothing but good things. Unfortunately, that was not our experience. Service was incredibly slow overall. My husband ordered his steak medium rare. It came out well done so we sent it back. After another long wait, it came out well again. At that point, we cancelled it. The appetizers we ordered were fine and the drinks were good, but not worth the slow service, average at best entrees, and horrible parking. read more

Great ambiance with friendly staff in a cool location for people watching and enjoying drinks. I had three different people come help throughout my visit but my server was new and he didn't really tend to us. Bar tender was cool and checked up on us and I'd ask waitress for napkins and refills so they covered down on the rook. The food was okay but it was overpriced considering the small portions. I will say that the main purpose of this place is to drink and the drinks were on point. My husband and I (+ our baby) came for dinner a few nights ago. We both came in thinking that it would be a neutral experience. I thought i would give it three and a half stars. The restaurant feels casual if you are seated outside, and the sharing menu enforces that feeling. My husband ordered two cocktails (the boardroom martini and something orange, I'm not sure what); he said that they were good but not crazy. I had a mocktail (the basil cucumber refresher) and it was good but lime was the overpowering flavor. We shared empanadas, coconut shrimp, and the plantains (I think it was the pianonos?). The shrimp was fine. The empanadas were excellent! The cheese one was okay, the venison one was really good with the herb sauce, but the mushroom medley was so good my husband said he would order that one for all three if possible. The plantains were amazing! We both loved them. They were beautifully caramelized and every single thing on them worked to enhance the taste. I could eat only those plantains as my whole meal and, honestly, dessert too. Our waitress made the experience go from 4 stars to 5. I believe her name was Caroline. She checked in with us the perfect amount. She was friendly and professional. Also, her suggestions on what to order were on point! We wouldn't have ordered the plantains or dessert if she hadn't sold them so well. Small complaints: The prices are a little high for what you get, and the music situation is not ideal. They continued to play the speaker music when live music started at the garden. We were glad we left not too long after that. The two different sounds going on was jarring. Rude and unprofessional, 11:00pm closing time published online for a Friday night. We arrived around 9pm, last call was announced at 9:40pm and my friends got drinks. The staff started playing unpleasant children's music and we felt rushed to leave. At least give people enough time to finish their drinks and communicate you will be closing early upon arrival. I was thinking about bringing my children, but I'm glad I didn't. This place is mysterious and romantic. They seemed to have some Halloween decorations strewn about. I get it, but the natural vibe was spooky enough (in a good way). Whoever put together the aesthetics did their job. I wanted there to be music, so I figured pacing our meal was the right move. Though there was no live music while we were there, there was a decent playlist on. Our waiters were pleasant but the establishment seemed a little short staffed. Im glad we caught them at 530ish when we did. Hosting (from the receptionist to the waiters- we had 2, kinda) wasn't super intimate or personable, but certainly the norm for restaurant hospitality on the island. We ordered a Salad, Vinson Empanadas, and the Ribeye. From the reviews and website, we expected there to be live music around 6, but I guess we would've needed to show a little later for that. We left around 7 and the band was just setting up and going through sound check. The food may not wow you, but its enough not to negatively alter the collective vibe. We went to The Boardroom in Kailua for Valentine's Day and it was absolutely perfect. From the moment we walked in, the vibe felt warm, intimate, and special -- exactly what you want for a date night. We started with the roasted pepper bruschetta and it was unbelievably fresh and flavorful. Every bite tasted bright and perfectly balanced. Then we had the panionos, which were insanely good and packed with flavor. For our main, we shared the ribeye with chimichurri and wow -- it was cooked to perfection, juicy, and the chimichurri added the perfect herby kick. I finally went back to The Boardroom after more than 6 months to see how they're doing. My buddy and I went out to enjoy HH at another establishment, then top the night off with some bone marrow and cocktails at The Boardroom. The vibe is a bit more subdued than a year ago, but it's still classy. The menu has gone thru some changes, but it still offers my favorites; bone marrow and oysters that aren't offered at many other establishments. As with most bars and restaurants, the prices have gone up, and the portion size has gotten smaller, but that's unfortunately pretty common. The quality is still great, which is a definite plus. The bar was full, so we took the corner table. The manager, Grant, was still there, and they have several new wait staff and a bartender. The staff is friendly and the service is still good. I had the Ohia Revival, which was the first cocktail I tried there, years ago, while my buddy tried one of their new whiskey cocktails. They were both good, as was the bone marrow. They have started a new program to incentivize reviews on social media. They gave me a card for a comp appetizer on the next visit, but I have to show a review. The vibe at the Boardroom in Kailua is definitely cute and nice for a date night or girls night out. The drinks are delicious but I actually prefer the ones in the beer garden vs the menu. Service is welcoming and friendly as always. My only dislike was the menu. There are only 4 entree options and a handful of appetizers. I had the Pan Seared Hebi but wasn't much of a fan. It was a bit overcooked and kind of tasted like overcooked chicken with a fishy taste. Was hoping they'd have some more menu options so if you're looking for a dinner date, I'm not sure this is the place for you. I only booked this place for my bday dinner because they had an outdoor patio that allowed dogs. Our 2 dogs would bark when other dogs walked passed but that only happened a few times but towards the end of our meal when we were about to leave some blonde lady staff member scolded us in front of everyone that our dogs were disturbing the customers. If there was an issue address it in the beginning and Privately at the table and don't announce it to the whole patio area. It just made us so uncomfortable and embarrassed. So incredibly rude that I couldn't wait to leave. We would certainly have left in the beginning if it was such an issue but you waited until we spent nearly $150 and then said something. Would you also scold a mother who had a crying baby with them ?! Never returning. Get some professionalism and tact. Thanks for ruining my birthday dinner. Also very limited menu- don't come hungry! I'll preface we're not big Valentine's Day people. It's not that we opt out of it, and we do like to celebrate us but we are not built on holidays. So... rewind to a week or so before the random day in February called Valentines, HaHa!! I started mulling over options...Much like Valentine's Day flowers and chocolate, fine dining is pretty much a Valentine Day standard, right? Meh... not this year. I could get fancy with a meal at home, soufflé anyone? Nah... Should I book a special experience, or turn takeout into an occasion? Erm... nope. I realized what was needful; a little less Master Chef and a little more relaxing. I made a decision! I opted for the Boardroom in Kailua, offering a 5-course, intimate dining experience, curated by Chef Luis with local sourcing. It's a small tapa and cocktail lounge with an emphasis on promoting local produce and culture. It's got a not quite beachy, not quite modern style vibe going. It was $100 per person, rsvp required, specially curated menu, with 5pm & 8pm seating. (this is a small eatery, very limited seating) We chose 5pm and as our invite outlined, we arrived promptly at 4:45 to enjoy a complimentary cocktail. We were the first to arrive and had our pick of seating but we're told there isn't a complimentary cocktail. The staff said they had no idea and even after showing them the invite it made no difference; no complimentary cocktail was happening. The first course arrived... Soup du Jour French onion soup, rustic bread It was very good and had the perfect blend of flavors. I'm guessing it was topped with Gruyere, but I can't be sure and I didn't ask. The aromatics and the bread.. it was delicious! It was my second favorite dish of the night. Course 2 - Roasted Tomato Bruschetta Rustic bread, local tomatoes, local basil, balsamic glaze This was very traditional. Not that it had to knock my socks off, but it wasn't memorable. Course 3 - Spaghetti alla Carbonara Thick cut bacon, local Wailua eggs, truffle butter, peas, parmesan reggiano This was the best dish of the evening for me. At first glance, carbonara is a simple dish: eggs, cheese, cured pork, black pepper, and pasta, what's the big deal? I'll tell you. It was creamy, salty, cheesy, and meaty in all the right places. I don't know what the rations were and not do I care, it was fantastic! Course 4 Braised Short Ribs Truffle mashed potatoes, charred broccolini The braised short rib was immaculately tender, moist and delicately seasoned. The truffle mashed potatoes and the gravy were very dissatisfying. There was no flavor whatsoever and they fell bland on my tastebuds. I didn't finish this dish. Dessert Brownie a la Mode with Manoa Ganache (me) New York style cheesecake served with fresh berries and house-whip (my husband) All the other tables had their desserts and were enjoying them when the waiter realized we had not been served ours. He apologized when he brought them to the table. I chose the brownie a la mode. The brownie was cold to the point it was almost frozen. I had to hold it down as I tried to cut it with my spoon. It was clearly not taken out of the freezer or chiller soon enough. This meant the ganache was also hard. Another couple and I were talking and they said they actually wanted the staff to microwave it to make it edible. (they were told they don't have a microwave). I didn't finish this dish either. My husband ordered the cheesecake. For me it was lacking the rich, boldness of cheesecake. He had the same sentiments. It was good, though. I also ordered the two specialty drinks, that Jess, the bartender curated; Two's A Pair and Liquid Hearts. They were very aesthetically pleasing, but you would have thought they were mocktails. For the price I absolutely expected more. Remember me sharing this is a small eatery? Nothing wrong with that. The bathroom is very small and is directly next to (very close) to the bar. I know it's better to have a tiny bathroom versus no bathroom, I get it and I appreciate they have one! However, the real concern for me is the extreme proximity of the bar to the bathroom. It is literally right there. Some small remodeling would go a long way for sanitary sake. Also, there wasn't any way for me to dry my hands. (I didn't see any paper towels and there wasn't an air dryer). Also, when it came to the bill they automatically charged a $36 house tip and also let everyone know (separately at each table) if you wanted to tip the bartender or waitstaff we would need to add that separately. I definitely didn't appreciate that and it was not disclosed ahead of time. The others were vocal about it, too. It was marvelous spending time with my husband and the weather was beautiful. I would encourage you to give this place a try and make your own conclusions. I'll be trying other small businesses in the area looking for delicious eats. SYOY! (See You On Yelp!) read more
