I really wanted to check this place out tonight, but it looked closed. I parked in the lot and walked over to the address. It was dark and the gate was locked. It was across a climbing gym? Both Yelp and Google said it was open. I called and got an AI answering service that insisted they were open, which was probably the most irraz thing about the experience. I got a lot of "Describe the situation.. that's odd," and then proceeded to tell me the hours again. I hope all is ok. Maybe next time! Your AI answering machine needs improvements. read more

The drinks are expensive and the service depends on how packed the event is or not. There is street parking available. You can also reserve tables or sections when you call ahead. I never made it to Work Play and it has already changed to The Gatsby! My friend who is a jazz lover wanted to go since they had a musician in town performing but they don't always have jazz. The vibe was cool and classy. Luckily he made rez so we had a high top table but they also have private / semi - private rooms. Nice cocktails as well as all the other categories of alcohol. I had a yummy espresso martini and friend had a gin based drink that was on the bitter side. We didn't eat but looks like they had some good bites as well. Service was good but a little slow due to busy-ness? Instagramable backgrounds which all new places must have. The one drawback I would say is the parking unless you don't mind paying $10 for valet. read more

We went on a Saturday night, and after some time, the restaurant becomes somewhat of a club with loud edm music, which I wasn't a huge fan of, but if you're here for the food, it's great! My friends heard that there was a new Bar place in Kakaako and we had to check it out. I didn't realize that this was the place that use to be where Workplay was! Regardless, the place was beautiful. I love how there were a few VIP spots indoors and even some private rooms. Since we went on a Friday, there were two live bands that came in. What was cool about this place was that they televised the band so those sitting outdoors can also listen/watch them. There are outdoor and indoor sitting area, which was a great way of using the space. In the evening, the place has a nice chill vibe. But by 10pm, it becomes a club! We came around 7:00pm when everything was pretty quiet. My friend and I ordered the Carpaccio, Oysters, and Tartare. The seafood was delicious! You can tell that the ingredients were fresh. :) Only downside is that there isn't a lot of street parking and valet is $10. Best to Uber to the place. There are only two bathrooms in total in this place which kind of sucks. Also, there seems to be also one waiter for the outside tables so it was hard to order our food/drinks. We had to wait over 15+ minutes to order again. But overall, great experience! If you are looking to celebrate something, good place to do it. :) read more

Great location look for parking across the street inside the parking lot. It's open all night and only six dollars. Look for the VIP rooms for big party and her favorite room is right by the DJ you get the pork shoulders tacos and the sliders. We tried this spot just to kick off the night and ended up staying until closed. They have a bar inside and a bar outside (outside bar may or may not be serving). Nick our bar tender was extra helpful and welcoming! You are able to reserve the coolest designed private rooms and some tables on the floor for bottle service. Our server Geraisha was ABSOLUTELY the best; so friendly and helpful and checked on us and poured drinks throughout the night! You can order food until a certain time and the garlic fries were perfect to share and enjoy! read more

He's got this calm presence, sharp timing, and a way of weaving a quick story or a one-liner into the rhythm of the night without forcing it. No gimmicks. Parking: Honestly...you gotta get lucky with street parking and if you plan to drink just Uber. Service: it was a little slow (food wise) but overall it was great! Our waitress was nice and attentive. Drinks: Alcohol-Espresso Martini was really good! Mocktail-Wild Garden...honestly I was so happy it wasn't super sweet! I always feel like mocktails tend to be overly sweet but this one was really refreshing! Food: Wagyu sliders- broooooo...just do yourself a favor and order it! So good! Tako: tender and the veggies and polenta was good too...I was surprised since I normally feel like when I order Tako it's always tough...but this one was cooked perfectly. Zucchini: nothing special but the sauce it came over made it stand out. So don't neglect the sauce at the bottom of the plate! Lollipop lamb: cooked and seasoned perfectly...worth the wait! And the veggies underneath were so tasty! Overall: I went at 7pm on a Friday night and it was really chill for dinner with some live music...as we were exiting we noticed the night life crowd coming in...the ones who are just there to drink. I think the earlier dinner vibe is for me, but if you want good drinks with good food and don't mind a crowd you should go later, but just know the later you go the more limited the food menu will be. I dont know what this place wants to be, but it's not whatever that is. We showed up at 6:45 for a reservation and had seats inside, it was cold so we were able to sit outside. The server came out and told us the menu was limited because the chef was leaving and a new one was coming. The only things available were some tacos, sliders, and some of the fried stuff. It would have been better for all of us if they just printed a new menu with the things they did have. I asked for a mocktail and the server brought one out that tasted decent. I also got a short rib taco which tasted pretty good. It was drizzling so I asked if we could sit inside and the server said she had to check reservations. We were the only ones at this place! Obviously we were able to move to inside. The server came and asked if we wanted anything else. One person ordered fries, another ordered spring rolls that were just told they didn't have. The server said the chef had left some behind. Don't insult anyone's intelligence, these were frozen spring rolls and frozen fries! I ordered jalapeño peppers, also frozen food. I know Farm Rich when I taste it. The server kept coming over asking if we were good and wanted anything else. The place was still empty. Then a group trickled in and was sat in the back room, we see them clearing stools from the main area to make a dance floor, and they put a VIP velvet rope around the tables. I knew that meant bottle service. At 9:45 the server came and told us she had to close us out because bottle service was going to be starting. She never asked if we wanted to do bottle service, we didn't, but she could have asked. This place was empty almost the whole time and then as we were leaving more people were showing up, it looked to be a younger crowd. The decor is weird, there's large fake flower arrangements, fake flower walls, and neon signs. It's cute enough, but I really don't know if they want lounge, club, bar, cute restaurant, what?? Whatever it is, I don't really need to know because I'm probably not going back. read more

I came to this place with my wife on a Friday night. I would like to say I looked at the website and was very interested in the food options and the cocktails. I was kind of disappointed when I arrived, and the whole menu was different than the one on the website. I understand that things have to change, but why not update the website. I would like to say besides that my night was good. The service was excellent and the environment looked very nice. I like the colors used, and the overall design was pleasing. The drinks were good and the food was tasty. I wish they would add more food and drink options in the future. The place is a nice space with indoor and outdoor areas. Absolute worst experience I've ever had at a bar the bartender Chris walked up to us and laughed as we asked for a drink after we had been sitting there for thirty minutes and then continued to drink in the back with the other bartenders absolutely do not recommend. One of the bartenders asked what we wanted so we waited for 20 minutes and didn't look our direction (we were sitting at the bar and had a chair) My other friends came in before me, mind you I came in an hour after them and they said that they already waited 30 minutes at the bar and were ignored. Me and my party of 12 were here for maybe two hours and only 3 of us got one drink after getting lucky because one of the old grandpa workers thought my 21 year old friend was attractive. Beautiful place...every room is uniquely decorated to fit a relaxing tasteful atmosphere. Bar and tenders look very experienced in their craft and if I were drinking that country night I really would...if u know what I mean ! Love the live music aspect also. Finally decided to check out The Gatsby and, overall, it *might* be okay, depending on what sort of vibe you're seeking. If you're expecting a chill place to listen to some tunes and sip a cocktail, it's best to come earlier in the evening--if you drop in later, it takes on a club-ish ambiance, and you'll likely be disappointed. There was a $15.00 cover charge per person to enter and, given the crowds that form inside the venue, it's not even worth paying since you'll probably wind up sitting outside. We tried "The Gatsy" (AKA an Old Fashioned), along with "White Tiger" (Pau Vodka and Fords Gin, infused with a citrus, olive and herb salt brine, spritz of dry vermouth). However, the latter was unfortunately one of the worst cocktails I've ever had. Took only 3-4 sips spread across various intervals to give it a chance but, alas, it was just as terrible as the first sip. Unclear if the proportions of the cocktail were off since I fully anticipated a savory cocktail based on the ingredients, but it tasted like straight kalamata olives submerged in salt water. Additionally, to dampen the evening, no one checked in to see if we needed anything--there was one individual who kept tending to a table nearby, and then vanished. Likely won't revisit this venue. read more

I was looking for a place to celebrate my birthday and one of my friends suggested The Gatsby. It was a perfect venue for our age group (35-42) because it had a more classy feel to it. It was perfect because we weren't squished against a bunch of random people throughout the night and didn't have a hard time getting to the dance floor, bar, and/or bathrooms. The bathrooms are nice and big and there were no lines. The DJ was amazing since he played music that we know/like for our age. It felt like it was a private party even though it was open to the public. The bottle service was super cute and they had a sign for my birthday and shining lights. Booking was easy via Instagram with Anya and Marie. Marie also communicated with me via email. They were both super helpful. Overall, I would definitely recommend this place if you want a night out with friends, but don't want to feel like you're in a sea of sweaty, 20 year olds and don't want to wait in long bathroom lines. Just visited tonight they were having r&b night. $30 cover charge wasn't bad but was only planning to dine in and have some drinks (didn't know its nightclub vibes on friday). Food was great, drinks was taking long. Looks like bartenders were slow but our server went above and beyond in making sure we get our drinks sooner. Our last drink order was never made even after we closed the tab. the server offered to make us a something simple, she deserved 5 stars! new management i heard but i know they doing their best, room for improvement at the bar. We went here based on the recommendation from friends who visited a year ago. We made a reservation and upon sitting down, we felt like we weren't wanted by the host. (We're in our 40's, and clearly they want college students) Our server was fun and bubbly and when we went to order more than drinks informed us that 2/3 of the menu wasn't available. This place is more focused on being a nightclub than being a restaurant.
