"Oh, I got stamped at the reggae lounge last night. Yeah, I'm going back there tonight..." - Cosmo Kramer, Seinfeld This AIN'T the reggae lounge, upscale, yet somehow relaxed vibe! da Scene: 12/30 - Wanted to catch-up with my 21 yr. old; nosh and have libations close by to the Embassy Suites. Yelped and almost went Monkey Pod, but this spot in the Halekulani seemed intriguing, so we got a little dressed, took a chance and walked over... they weren't packed, but definitely make reservations we were lucky to score spots at the bar. DRESS NICE, leave the shorts and Nike sneakers at home. da Grub & Libations: Started with cocktails and some complimentary warm nuts (had roasted edamame too, which were addicting). Ordered up both the cheese & charcuterie boards and switched to wine. They have an eclectic selection by the glass; not deep but you'll find something for most palates. Small miss was the bread on the charcuterie board; hard as a ROCK, but they replaced w/out issue. Finished with glass each of Sancerre and Port to go with their signature Coconut Cake. All the while a stand-in at the piano did a few Christmas rifs before pivoting to more upbeat jazz tunes. da Service: Well, its the Halikulani after all, and this spot carried that expectation. From the moment you meet up with the Bellmen in front, to the Reception folks, and the restaurant hosts along the way, EVERYONE had polished, friendly, authentic comms; super nice. Had a really good time... 8 more nights, may squeeze in another visit. Definitely will add to rotation when we visit. Might have to stay there a couple nights next time. They put the Kahala to shame!

It's been a while since my last review, but it's still my top favorite lounge. I especially like Tuesdays and Wednesdays, when Tommy James plays the piano. He's not only an amazing musician but also got interesting stories to tell ;) Other things I love: being able to request songs (depending on the musician), carefully crafted cocktails, wonderful wines, and small snack that comes with drinks :) Lastly, I truly appreciate the elegant and sophisticated atmosphere, as well as attentive service of their staff.

Very niiiiice. I love the ambiance here. Feel free to dress to the nines and bring someone special. This place is a stylish, low-lit jazz lounge with a cool atmosphere and smooth vibe. I immediately felt calm and relaxed here, much like everywhere else at Halekulani. The pūpū and drinks we ordered were special, thoughtfully prepared, and professionally delivered. We also ordered the hamburger, which was excellent, followed by two French press coffees and coconut cake. The staff was unpretentious and welcoming from the start--nothing stuffy despite the sophisticated setting. The musicians are so talented it felt more like a private concert or dinner theater. The pianist, Maggie, is a singer-songwriter who taught us a few things and kept us engaged the entire time. We caught up on our day, ate, and enjoyed the show. Reservations are for two hours, so there was no rush at all. Overall, this is a classy spot for a relaxed night out. Prices are about what you'd expect but even stopping in after dinner elsewhere would be nice. Reservations are not needed for the bar. The only thing I would do differently is arrive earlier to enjoy the grounds more before sunset. Valet park and enjoy your night!

This place teleports you back to what you imagine a nighttime lounge on the Titanic to have been like. From the decor to the live music and dress code, this all comes together to live up to the atmosphere they must have envisioned they wanted to set. The drinks were artfully spirit-forward, and the bites/desserts were crafted to match the sophistication of everything else around you. The live music was a pianist who also sang and a cellist. The music leveled to a decibel that still left room for conversation if that was what you were there for. Service was good, and they allowed their patrons to be who they wanted to be for the night. All around, it's a great spot that can take care of a craving for big-city swankiness.

I have been coming to the Halekulani Hotel since right after it opened, over 40 years ago. My ex and I used to stay there when we came to town. Every time I come into town I go to the Lewers Lounge to have a sophisticated cocktail and listen to music. I have always lived it there, and never miss going a few times when I'm in Waikiki- which is fairly often. Saturday I stopped in, and when I got there, the hostess gave me a look up and down, then stated they had "no room for me"- although there was an empty seat at the bar. She said to come back, but "she wouldn't guarantee me a seat." When I came back the hostess wasn't at the front, so one of the servers sat me. A few moments later, I saw the hostess come out from the back, see me, and do an about face. I am assuming that she went to ask who had had the nerve to seat me. After that, none of the servers would come my way or look my way. After about 15 minutes I left. I felt a bit like Vivian in the Pretty Woman scene! Trust me when I say I was more than appropriately dressed for the Halekulani, in a dress with heels. This really rubbed me the wrong way, so the next day I stopped in, asked for the manager and told him what had happened. He said that he would speak with the hostess- but that was it. I was really disappointed all the way around that their hostess (who wasn't your most attractive nor fit person herself) would pass some sort of negative judgement on a patron, and Halekulani would do noting to make it right

Wow what an amazing experience. Halekulani means "House Befitting Heaven," and Lewers lounge really just transports you to a different world. Legit felt like I was in a movie. Everyone was dressed up (as per dress-up guidelines.). My drink was non-alcoholic and a new addition called "Japanese Folk Song." I loved this one how it was a balance between salty and sweet. I also love how it was a virgin drink because I was out here to be demure, and I ain't about the alcoholic life. The Kona Espresso Tiramisu was a winner and devoured that ish in a few minutes. Definitely would come back here again with friends. I got to sit at the counter due to the popularity of this space. Will definitely make a reservation to get a table next time and stay longer to chill. This place is also like.. hella romantic. I think this would be a really good girls' night out or date night. As for myself, Imma be out here with my gang to have fun lol

A must for jazz lovers! Whenever I'm visiting Honolulu, I live in Hilo, Lewars is my go to spot for a cool, classy vibe and exceptional music. Astonishing musical talent 7 nights a week including the extraordinary pianist Tommy James. No more dress code but shoes not sandals are required. Very hip, sophisticated scene, The only true jazz venue in Honolulu. Highly recommended!

Left to right: Open-faced baguette, cheese plate, Paper Doll (teacup), Take 5, Moonglow.

I love live music and fancy cocktails. Went here for my birthday for an excuse to dress up, and ate way more than I planned to. The Paper Doll cocktail was an unexpected hit. And the desserts were so beautiful it was hard to eat.

Classy, upscale place where you can listen to amazing Jazz. Quite the little gem in Waikiki of all places. Rocky, the saxophonist is very talented and played each piece beautifully. He's one of our favorite musicians in Hawaii. Highly recommend for the live music alone. Cocktails - the menu has changed since we last came here and the prices have increased as well. I will say the 2 cocktails we ordered (Smoke Rings and Paper Doll) were well-made and complex in flavor. They are pretty steep in price considering it's $24/per speciality cocktail. There's a slightly cheaper option for $22. It's priced appropriately for Waikiki, considering its inside Halekulani Resort and the free live music included with your experience. I recommend the Tawney ports or red wines if you're not in the cocktail mood. The manager seemed to be MIA this time, as there were lines of people waiting to be seated but we were all ignored for a while. I remember a male manager who worked there before who was very efficient and had a waiting list. They might want to go back to that method to make things run smoother. They also didn't enforce their strict dress code rules this time around, so we are unsure whether they still require that anymore? I hope things are more organized next time we come back!

What a fun place to be at night! Honolulu was dumping rain this evening I came with my family and fortunately we found Lewers Lounge open with a pianist playing wonderful tunes as we had a cocktail or two. Please be mindful to come dressed in nice, casual formal attire meaning no board shorts, graphic shirts or flip flops. They do provide a button up shirt for gentlemen ;) what a nice touch. The drinks are well done- worth every penny. So many crafty cocktails to try! I honestly do not have a favorite. Desserts and appetizers are also delicious, especially the coconut cake. There's also bar nuts to snack on. Plenty of seating from lounge chair setting for 2, a couch setting for 4 or simply mixing the two to get a setting for 6. Service was great- our waitress remembered every drink order! Amazing. She was very attentive and kind. Definitely recommend this place for a nice night cap

Apparently you're normally supposed to put a coin in to open the secret door, but it's broken right now, so the whole vending machine just swings right open. Slightly less secret, but still very cool. Inside is where this place really shines. Moody lighting, a giant orange tree in the middle of the room, Japanese hip hop playing in the background (I want to steal this entire playlist), and extremely cool and friendly servers and bartenders. I've been to a few other attempted "speakeasies" in Honolulu, but most are basically just dark bars with a fun door or code word. Wild Orange actually has the VIBES to make the whole concept work. Definitely worth coming just to hang out and chill. They have a full bar and an extensive specialty cocktail menu. Tried the Purple Dragon, made with ube liqueur and coconut cream. Very sweet--a little TOO sweet for my taste--but tasty and pretty. Probably should have listened to the menu and kept it as a shot, but I wanted something I could sip on for a while and chill. The Umeshu Highball was also very pretty and tasty. My friend who works as a sake distributor was impressed with their selection of good sake, so of course we had to order a bottle. Our server brought it out in an ice bucket, kept it off to the side, and completely served it for us throughout. Very classy. The food menu is fun and creative, but unfortunately not really for me because it's entirely vegan. Most times, but ESPECIALLY when I'm drinking, I want MEAT. Tried the Wild Musubi, a vegan Spam musubi. I'm not actually sure what the "meat" was. Possibly fried tofu? Whatever it was, it was definitely a passable alternative, but would have been 100x better if it were just plain old Spam. It also falls victim to what I find is a common problem with vegan attempts at Japanese food: anything teriyaki ends up being way too treacly sweet without actual meat or seafood to ground it in reality. Also tried the Char Siu Tofu Bao, fried tofu in a red Chinese-style char siu sauce on fluffy white buns. Again, fun and certainly not bad, but these would be 1000x better with actual pork. If Wild Orange had this exact same creative food menu but carnivore edition, this place would probably be 7/5 stars for me. That being said, I know being vegan will actually be a huge draw for some people, and I appreciate that the food is creative rather than just the usual sad vegan afterthoughts. Parking is pretty easy by Honolulu standards. It's inside Hawaiian Brian's, so there's a large shared parking lot. That being said, you might still have trouble finding a spot during peak gym hours since you're competing with all the 24 Hour Fitness customers. All in all, I LOVE this place. Definitely a fun stop--first, middle, only, or nightcap--on a chill night out. Will absolutely be adding Wild Orange into the rotation of places to bring out-of-town guests when I want to impress them with something cool and different. The vegan menu probably means it'll be a couple-times-a-year place for me rather than a regular haunt. But for drinks, service, atmosphere, and pure VIBES? 20/10.

That's a shame because it has the potential to be very good. When you start with a cocktail concept that is deliberately kept low key with no signage, and a drink menu that rotates and evolves, you have a pretty good floor to start. Having a cozy place to settle in and being able to enjoy food from Chris Kajioka should give 430 Pkwy a high ceiling. If you like an espresso martini try something a little different. Their Espressing My Love batches espresso with Averna, black walnut bitters, and a unique monkeypod syrup. Unfortunately, there is no espresso machine so you cannot get fresh drawn espresso to make a Carajillo the way Cafe Miro use to. The ahi brioche is a carry over from all Chris Kajioka places. The grilled cheese is excellent. Hotdogs are kicked up - it used to be a black truffled miso chicken sausage but the current one is a little different. The problem is the food preparation totally undermines the whole place. Without a separate kitchen you have frying being done just a few feet away from where cocktails are made. If you sit on the right side of the bar you will quickly understand why this doesn't work. I would come here more frequently if i didn't have to smell like cooking oil afterwards. Fix that problem and this place would rock.

Chinatown has become a hub for music venues, cocktail bars, and late-night entertainment, and Dragon Upstairs stands out as one of the neighborhood's more distinctive underground clubs. The atmosphere is energetic and slightly gritty in a way that feels intentional. The venue has the character of an old-school nightlife space, with dim lighting, a dance floor, and music that drives the energy of the room. Because it is located upstairs and somewhat hidden from the street, the club carries a sense of discovery that adds to the experience. Music and live performances are the heart of the venue. DJs and occasional live acts create a constantly shifting soundtrack that ranges from electronic and dance music to other genres depending on the night. The dance floor tends to fill quickly, especially on weekends, giving the club a lively and immersive atmosphere. The bar serves a straightforward lineup of drinks designed to keep the energy moving rather than slow the pace of the night. The focus remains on the music, dancing, and social environment rather than an elaborate cocktail program. Service during the visit felt efficient given the fast-paced nightlife setting. Staff kept the bar moving while maintaining a friendly and approachable attitude. From a global travel perspective, Dragon Upstairs reminded me of underground clubs I have encountered in cities like Berlin, Tokyo, and Los Angeles where music culture and nightlife creativity define the experience.
