Golden Lychee Martini
Shirley O.

This bar is in STIX Asia, a food mall located in the basement. It reminds me of the various food stalls at the Tokyo train station in Japan. Service was friendly when I arrived for an afternoon drink and snack. I got the Golden Lychee Martini and steamed dumplings. My drink was deliciously sweet and paired well with the savory dumplings. It had amaretto which is a sweet Italian liquor. My drink wasn't boozy and I only experienced a light buzz. The dumplings took awhile to make, but I was told in advance that there would be a wait. They have an extensive list of cocktails and also serve boba, beer, and a few mocktails. It's an interesting concept because it's open space and doesn't have the drinking scene vibe that's typical of most bars. It's relaxing and casual.

Had a very enjoyable time at Shanghai Bar! I've been in the food court a few times during my stay here but bars make me nervous for various reasons. This one was just right for me, and kudos to the bartender who kept coming to chat with me and made me feel more comfortable! ‍‍ I only had one drink, but the Pink Lady was delicious and I wish I'd stopped by sooner!

Shanghai Bar at Stix Asia is a vibe! I stumbled into this hidden gem in Waikīkī, last year so I went back this year and let me tell you, the Drunken Matcha Latte by Kim is an absolute must-try. Creamy, boozy, and perfectly balanced--every sip felt like a love letter to my taste buds. YUM! And Kim? She's not just a mixologist; she's a magician. Her cocktail skills are only rivaled by her incredible service--attentive, friendly, and with just the right amount of charm. I felt like I'd known her forever. Safe to say, I'll be back (probably more than once) during my stay in Honolulu. If you're in the area, grab a seat, order the Drunken Matcha Latte, and prepare to be hooked. Cheers!

This bar is inside STIX Asia, a food court in Waikiki. The service was super friendly and upbeat. The cocktails were well done with Waikiki prices. As for ambiance, it's bar seating in a food court. Nice part is you can see them mixing the drinks. Once recommendation would be to get nicer and drink appropriate glassware or increase the pour size. The old fashioneds looked ridiculous in large glass with a rather small ice cube. Oh, a bigger ice cube would also we nice. We went during their soft opening and hopefully it'll keep improving in the coming months.

This review is just based off one drink I had here which was the Kona Coffed Martini. It was outstanding. Was it pricey? Yes. But it was worth the price in my opinion. One of the best drinks I had. The bartender was extremely friendly. There's adequate seating. Note you'll need to spend a minimum of $35 for one hour parking validation in the paid parking structure.

Came here for a lil celebratory drink for myself so I asked the bartender "give me something moderately sweet and moderately strong" and he understood the assignment!!! He gave me a cocktail (pictured) that was like strawberry passion or something like that. I had another one, and made some friendly conversation with him and the other bartender. Both were super nice and very funny and interesting. I had a great time just listening to them and enjoying my moderate tipsiness. And then I found out they serve green tea shots and I have been LOOKING for green tea shots because they are SO GOOD! Anyways, the bartender saw that my eyes lit up when they mentioned they have green tea shots and they knew that I knew that they knew that I wanted one. So they made me one and it was absolutely delicious, and very generously sized. I left a happy customer.

We stopped by for a quick drink while deciding on dinner at the STIX Asia food court in the Waikiki Shopping Plaza on Kalakaua Ave. It's an open-style bar seating, so if you're after a quiet spot, this might not be your vibe. For us, it was perfect! The space is roomy, and you can watch the bartenders work their magic while people watching or enjoying sports on the big-screen TVs. I'm giving this place 5 stars because, even if the ambiance isn't for everyone, the fantastic staff truly makes it shine. We didn't try any of the cocktails..maybe next time. Great service and even better conversation!

Located in the center of Stix Asia (used to be Waikiki Yokocho), and wasn't very impressed. All the cocktails are named with Shanghai in mind. The Shanghai old fashioned my husband ordered and the cocktail I got (Akarui) looked and sounded interesting, but just didn't quite hit the mark. I couldn't even really taste the alcohol in my drink and it tasted like a fizzy soda, but some might want that!

3.5 stars I came to STIX Asia to eat at Gashoken with a friend. Sadly after walking around and finding Gashoken, the staff there said they aren't open yet! That's so sad right?! I think I need a drink! My friend was running a little behind due to the parking situation in Waikiki so I had a little time to kill. Every challenge presents an opportunity right? This presented me an opportunity to try out Shanghai Bar while waiting for my friend to arrive. Since we were eating, I just ordered a drink. After looking at the menu, I ordered The Bund Old Fashioned. It didn't take too long for them to make it but it was longer than usual and they weren't busy. The bartender wasn't very sociable until I initiated a conversation with him. Talking to someone was better than watching NBA reruns. He was a nice guy and I enjoyed my conversation with him till my friend arrived. The drink itself was ok but it was definitely Waikiki prices. It is a nice space with TV's at the bar but considering the cost of parking and the premium on drinks, I can't see myself coming here often. Great for tourists though!

I stopped by this place to have a quick one and ended up having a few. Nice little gem in the Stix Asian Food Court. They have bar seating, as well as tables. My bartender Nick D. was very friendly. Had a great time talking with him. They have an Asahi draft beer dispenser that serves up ice-cold beer. That's why I had a few more than I had originally thought. They have a limited menu, but it's perfect when you're having a "few". Happy eating and drinking. Alooooooooha

To my surprise, on a Sunday evening after having dinner nearby at Maze, my wife and I walked over to Bar Leather Apron and we were able to get seated right away! In fact, around 7:30 p.m. when we stopped by, there was actually a ton of seating available in the bar. Who would've guessed. If you're in the same boat as me and are unable to find a reservation for your upcoming visit, I would encourage you to stop by and try a walk-in. The first page of the menu lists a wide variety of whiskey based cocktails. Most -- if not all, of the cocktails are pre-fixed with BLA (Bar Leather Apron), and represent a collaboration with the named distillery. If you're fan of whiskey, you'll definitely have a difficult time picking only one. I ultimately ordered their "Take Warning" -- 2021 BLA Knob Creek BLA Single Barrel, Cynar, Carpano Antica, Mezcal, Bergamot Salt. Drinks here are not cheap -- averaging $20 to $25 per drink. Although my drink was very spirit forward, it still felt very well balanced. I appreciated the hint of smokiness from the mezcal that rounded out the end of a sip. Service here quick and friendly. When we received the check, a cute small chocolate snack was brought over as well, borrowed from the menu at Maze. Overall, I can see why Bar Leather Apron has earned so many accolades in its field. Definitely worth a stop by if you enjoy the art of mixology.

It has bar seating, cocktail lounge seating and a few "dining tables." The food is pretty good, I would give it a 4/5 because the portions are rather moderately small. But overall tasty and the bacon is outstanding. We had to order 6 items for 2 people to feel slightly full. But the menu is also fairly small with just tasting style apps meant for sharing and enjoying, they are not hearty and not meant to be entree sized. The cocktails are great, they do a wonderful presentation complete with smoke and etc. They have an extensive whiskey list and the options are are all diverse (mules, daiquiri, mescal, champs) yet standard. Now the service is pretty bad, greeted and asked repeatedly if we had a reservation which we did, we almost felt unwelcomed. Then the older skinny bartender perhaps in his 60's was very unfriendly and tried not to talk to us, take our order or even acknowledge us even though he was standing in front of us drinking water from his water bottle. This guy needs to work at a gas station or something where he can just sit in a corner and not speak to people. I wouldn't come here again, but if I were in the area and craving bacon I suppose I would. =) Bad service is just so off-putting.

Well, welcome Dear Reader, and I hope what I'm about to share peaks your interest to visit EP Bar. I had my 2nd visit to EP Bar earlier this month with friends for some after dinner drinks. We did make a res, but there were some walk-ins while we there, so it's probably recommended but not necessary. We perused the menu, and our 1st round consisted of: Ringo Star Strawberry Fields Forever Pho Us By Us Hail Mary Any guesses on the drink I chose? It's related to the Beatles. If you guessed Ringo Star.....take another guess. The Strawberry Fields Forever was very refreshing. Recommended. My partner ordered the Hail Mary, which (sadly) wasn't to his liking, and he happily "helped" me finish my drink before ordering his own in the next round. I chose the Ringo Star as my next drink, and I'd say if you're a fan of Mr. Star and/or apples, this drink is right up your orchard. Recommended. SERVICE The service is friendly, mixed with a splash of polite, and served with patience and knowledge. BOTTOM LINE A great place for drinks. Casual ambiance/vibe and relaxed atmosphere. Recommended.

Fifteen minutes west of Waikiki, you'll find yourself in a completely different Hawaii…read more Honolulu's Chinatown feels worlds away from the beachfront resorts and postcard-perfect sunsets. The neighborhood is vibrant, gritty, and alive--a mix of Chinese, Southeast Asian, and Native Hawaiian influences layered over historic buildings, glowing neon signs, art galleries, and hidden cocktail dens. It reminded me a bit of New Orleans: worn facades with stories to tell, creative energy around every corner, and the sense that the best experiences are often tucked behind an unassuming door. Which makes it the perfect home for EP Bar. "EP" stands for Extend Play, a fitting name for a place built around music. Long before listening bars became fashionable in Los Angeles, New York, and London, there were the jazz kissa of Japan--small cafés where people gathered not to drink or dance, but to listen. Records spun through carefully tuned sound systems while patrons sat immersed in the music. The music wasn't background noise. It was the main event. Walking into EP Bar, you can feel traces of that tradition. The room is intimate and inviting. Reservations are highly recommended because the place fills up quickly on weekend nights. Once inside, the atmosphere hits a sweet spot. The music is loud enough to create a mood and provide privacy for conversation, yet never so overpowering that it dominates the room. Loud enough to muffle the secrets being shared between old friends. Loud enough to drown out the office gossip that somehow followed everyone from the coffee machine into happy hour. The soundtrack isn't just playing--it's setting the tone. As an Old Fashioned guy, my choice was easy. I ordered a Oaxaca OF, which swaps traditional whiskey for mezcal. Smoky, balanced, and memorable, it felt like the kind of drink that rewards slow sipping between tracks. Another member of our group went with the Pho Us By Us. To nobody's surprise except perhaps her own, it tasted a little salty. Considering the ingredients--Green Chile Vodka, Sake, Pho Spice, Lemon, and Soda--it was probably the most honest cocktail description I've ever seen. The drink tasted exactly like its name suggested. That's part of the fun here. The menu doesn't hide behind clever marketing. Drinks like Thai Me Down and Candy Rain practically dare you to order them. Not every note landed perfectly. Service was a little off-beat during our visit. But like any live performance, sometimes the rhythm isn't flawless. Thankfully, the vibes, decor, music, and overall experience more than carried the set. What I appreciated most was that EP Bar doesn't feel like a gimmick. It feels like a genuine continuation of a tradition that began decades ago in Japan's listening cafés, traveled across oceans, and found a home in Honolulu's Chinatown. It's a place where music matters, conversation flows, and the pace of the evening slows down just enough to appreciate both. The place slaps for what it is--and for what it isn't. In a world increasingly filled with distractions, EP Bar invites you to do something refreshingly simple: sit down, have a great drink, listen to great music, and be present. I'll definitely be back. After all, every good record deserves another spin, and I'm curious to see how the needle lands next time.
