After happy hour at the Maui Brewing Company on Kalakaua Avenue on Friday, the 1st of September, 2023, we walked to the HALE KOA HOTEL'S beachside patio bar, the BAREFOOT BAR, for more bargain drinks. Nestled along the shores of Waikiki, HALE KOA'S BAREFOOT BAR is a hidden gem that provides an inviting atmosphere with breathtaking beach views. Live music enhances the relaxing ambiance with rope and torch lights while adding the lively spirit of island life, a perfect setting for enjoying tropical beverages and snacks. We arrived shortly before 7 PM and immediately found an umbrella-covered table to sit at. BAREFOOT BAR's short, but sweet menu features competitively affordable cocktails, especially for military patrons (MILITARY $10.00/PUBLIC $12.50). DJ ordered the Sailor's Paradise, a vibrant concoction of Sailor Jerry's Spice Rum and Midori, which he enjoyed. I took a sip of Justin's Paniolo "Hawaiian Cowboy," a whiskey-based drink with mango puree, lemonade & club soda, which I found to be a bit too sweet for my liking, but, still, even without Uncle's military discount, what a steal! Where else can you find great alcoholic beverages on the beach at such prices?! Enhancing the overall experience, there's an adjacent snack bar that drew lines of people ordering bites during our visit. There was also a line for the women's clean restroom, but the wait wasn't long at all. Service was friendly and prompt. A pleasant visit we enjoyed at BAREFOOT BAR, watching the sunset at beachside with drink in hand and music playing. Aloha! read more

Always a welcome break from the sand and surf where you can retreat for a cold beverage of your choice. With plenty of tables and views of the ocean it is a great place to catch sunset also. One of my friends was staying at the Hale Koa and she said to meet her in the lobby and we'd go to the Barefoot...so okay if I don't have slippahs??? LOL! We ordered drinks at the bar, and then found an empty table to sit at. The sun was already down, there was a gently breeze blowing, and the live music was really good! Don't know what the guy's name was but he set the mood for the night. Lots of military, retired and enlisted, oh, and some families too. The mai tais we ordered were really good! I literally just walked up from the beach at night, ordered a Li Hing Margarita, downed it, loved it, wish i had time for another, and honestly, was already lit from that 1 cocktail. The bartenders hands are super heavy here, and the service is wonderful. We were checked in on by any staff that walked by. Remember how i said i hardly spent time there? That's right. The is a fun, laid back area right at the entrance of the Rainbow Tower. It is an alcove and entirely open with a view of the beach and right along the main walkway which is great if you enjoy people watching! The service was excellent! The servers were right on top of everything! You walk in, sit down and in seconds a server is there! The drinks are fun and I especially enjoyed the "Hawaiian Love Song" was delicious and potent. Food was a limited in scope but the right amount to nosh on. We had the chicken fingers one one occasion and the cheeseburgers on another. Both were great! We came to Barefoot Bar in the evenings to enjoy the music outdoors and visit with friends we met while staying in Honolulu. Paul, Scott, Tammy & Courtney to name a few were ever so courteous and prompt with our service. We enjoyed the variety of musicians the establishment had every night. Lava flow and mango flow are definitely not strong whatsoever, but I enjoyed it. Located at the Hale Koa Hotel property, patrons can access the bar through either from the hotel side or the concrete pathway off Waikiki Beach. Opens at 11:00 a.m. and closes at 10:00 p.m. If your DoD ID cardholder or a guest at the Hale Koa Hotel with a room key, you'll get the discount. Depending on whose the bartender, drinks will be different. I say this because Barefoot Bar has known to make some excellent drinks, but depending on the mixology experience of the bartender it can be a hit or miss. There is live music on Fridays thru Sundays. Waitress service restarted on June 9 so you don't have to wait on long lines for self-service. This outdoor bar was great!! And just right next to the Kahanamoku Beach!!! I feel like it's at the perfect spot to be as I'm sure they get many people from the beach coming here since it's located near the restrooms and shade LOL. You get discount at this bar if you're staying at the Hale Koa or if you're from military. PLUS, you get fireworks every Friday night at 8PM! Super cool. The bartender that made the drinks for us definitely went ABOVE and BEYOND even with him being extremely busy. I had the Hale Koa Mai Tai which already was so delicious until he gave me a taste test of the Mango Lava Flow!!! I can have 5 of those but I don't think I'd be able to make it to my hotel if I drank that many LOL. I highly recommend the slushies if you plan to go here though! Frozen Drinks were great - lava flow (sweet and tart) and mango flow (mango sweet!!) are both fantastic , just depends on what you want. Sunset lemonade was very fruity and floral! Service was friendly: Michael took great care of us at the bar during our visit. Really appreciated it especially as foot traffic picked up sooner than anticipated. This is on an Armed Forces Recreation Center property that is designed specifically with the US military families in mind, so there's a muted patriotic presence throughout the property (mostly from the guests), but the staff were always welcoming and didn't make us US civilians feel out of place or alienated for being there. On our little family's daily walks, we often pass by the Hale Koa Hotel and the Barefoot Bar along DeRussy/Duke Kahanamoku Beach. On a recent holiday, we finally decided to walk over and give it a try. The newly renovated pool led to a complete change in the bar areas as well. The beach-front Barefoot Bar has a fantastic view of the ocean looking Ewa toward the Hilton Lagoon. The once-temporary bar area under the trees has become a permanent part of the area; this portion is bar service drinks only with umbrella tables under the shade of the trees and less of a view. The Barefoot Bar area next to the beach is hot and in direct sunlight most of the day, so if you're okay with this it's a great option. It's all outdoors with well-spaced umbrella tables so you get some shade. They have a few fire pit areas with couches right along the wall, these have the best view but would probably be more comfortable in the morning or early evening. As of this writing, you can seat yourself wherever you'd like with full service; someone will come to you. They have a menu of pre-made sandwiches and snacks; we tried the veggie wrap and Nathan's Hot Dog with fries; both are served at appropriate temperatures and were worth the price for the size and freshness. This is mostly a drink place with cocktails, non-alcoholic options, and beer. Here's the kicker: like many of the sub-businesses in the Hale Koa, it's open to the public but there are two price lists. Military/Guests prices are 20% lower than public. The discounted prices are still more on the high Waikiki side, without a discount this may not be worth the visit. Staff was wonderful, our server Jo was friendly, welcoming, and fast with water refills (much needed on a hot afternoon). After discount, we were happy with the total coast to have a light late lunch and some fun drinks. We look forward to coming again. read more

This place will always hold a special place in my heart! The Garza is named after my brother who frequented this bar MANY times over the 3 years he lived on Oahu. They did an incredible job encompassing him in a drink. The bartenders were so friendly and quick. Came here almost every night to have at least one Garza. I stumbled on this place whilst meandering through the Hale Koa. I feel like on some level I belong here. I mean that I come from a long line of individuals that served in the military and have also recently acquired the extreme honor of becoming the wife of an honorably retired marine/army professional person who for many years gave his purpose to. I feel surrounded by this kind of generosity here. It has an air of respectfulness that seems reverant, while still being a relaxing bar. It is lovely here, green plump grass that is cool and shaded by some magnificent trees lining the park. It is right at the beach at DeRussy Beach Park and from the table here, I can feel the breeze of the ocean, smell the green grass and flowers all around me, hear the gentle, yet hip and modern, music melding with the breeze, and I can get a cocktail! Yay! Off in the distance, waves crash and children are laughing. I can see people parasailing and peppering, getting ready for sand volleyball. I see bicycles and floaties, and all around me nature and beauty abounds. Its incredible here. Its a military resort bar in Hawaii. Its pretty awesome! Have your MID ready, they ask. If you show your military ID or hale Kona room key you'll get the discounted drink rate, but even the non-military prices are very competitive. There is live music many nights on the lawn, some tables have umbrellas if there's rain. Otherwise, it's very nice being outside. You can either order from your table or order at the bar. Each time we return if is a year of 5 years she seems to remember us and how we like our drinks. Often they also have live music on the small stage not sure what the normal start times are since each night they have had music it's been a different start time.
