We got a room at the Hyatt Resort and Spa to see the fireworks on New Year's Eve and took a chance on this place located across the street even though we already had some trepidations about typical bar foods in Waikiki. We should've listened to our inner food voice. Nearly every dish we ordered was overly salty, except for the onion soup which went in the opposite direction and tasted thin and watered down, with very little flavor. The dining area was hot and stuffy, even though we were seated outside on the lanai in late December. The building sits behind another structure that seems to block the trade winds, so there was almost no airflow. Service was friendly but slow. The one real standout of the night was the guitar player/singer, who was great and added a lively atmosphere. We sat right next to him and thought we would get blown out but he was a pro and knew how to keep it lively without drowning out the conversations. Honestly the worst service and experience we've had in Hawaii. Menu looked solid and causal. I had asked about the rotating draft beer and the server wasn't too knowledgeable about it when I asked if the beers were light or dark. I asked the bartender who also couldn't really explain the flavor profile or type of beer beyond that and told me to ask my server again. Opted to not get any and got the daily soup. The server told us it was "spicy kimchi and wonton"- it was actually mandu. It was also somewhat lukewarm but I didn't mind. My friend got the fried shrimp app and she asked if her food was the one waiting on the counter for before and after she used the bathroom. The waitress said yes but was waiting on our other order. Makes sense why my soup was cold but then why not bring out all 3 at the same time? We held our class reunion here after the owner reached out and shared that he could do a fabulous menu - and it ended up being the perfect spot! We weren't a super big party, and its intimate setting was just right for our gathering. The staff was super friendly, took our drink orders and let us mingle for awhile. I loved the warm ginger chicken over rice - the owner is part Chinese and I appreciated how it kept the essence of the local favorite with the ginger sauce, but was warm and over white rice. Finally we got cute mini lau lau, and the pork was super meat and well seasoned. Everything was so good that I ate waaay more than I intended to in the reunion outfit lol. It's a lil harder to get to than most places and ended up parking at the zoo... But it is also more fun!! Saw it down the street and decided what the heck, let's go there. So happy we did! Sitting one story above street level with a fabulous cool breeze flowing through the place we sipped on some great Pina Coladas. Friendly wait staff asking about our stay, where we've been and really engaging with us. Every one was so kind and made sure we had what we needed. The sliders were really good and had a nice pineapple bacon jam to complement the patty. The crispy Korean Fried Chicken was so light, airy and yummy. We consented, and when we saw the dinner menu, it was basically the same food but more expensive (which is okay... maybe she could have just given us the dinner menu first). The onion soup was a little on the salty side, but quite good. I don't remember what my husband ordered, but I remember him liking it. For dessert, we ordered their banana haupia tart which I thought was tasty as well ! We sat outside (they also have indoor seating), so from my seat, I got a nice sunset ! They also seem to have live musicians every night. The night we went was someone singing covers on an electric guitar. The next night there was someone playing strings - that could have been cool to be near ! The service was only OK, as well as the food overall, hence my 3 stars. read more

They have a limited menu, but it was posted at the door so you could review before walking in. Was quickly greeted by hostess and seated in a spot looking down towards the beach.
