Went for happy hour - got the sushi roll, dumplings and the ribs. The ribs and sushi roll were covered in a sauce that was absurdly salty. Inedible salty. The dumplings were fine but not special. I mentioned it to the waiter - that the chef should really taste the sauces - but he didn't say anything, didn't seem to care and didn't offer to do anything for us like get us something else. I made a reservation for 9 and asked if we could increase by 2. They had no problem. What an awesome night was spent by all. The ambiance was fantastic. The service was excellent. They kept all of the drinks refilled immediately and in some cases before they were actually empty. Alcoholic drinks were delivered in a timely manner so the bar was really busting their buns because the place was packed. Our sever was awesome and everyone else who helped service our party. The food was spectacular. The butterfish over black rice was one of the best dishes I have ever tasted. Everyone who order it said the same thing. Many had the swordfish encrusted with macadamia nut and it was also a big hit. Several appetizers were ordered and all were delicious. The standout appetizer was the ahi tuna. Great night. Love Roy's (been to ones in California and in Hawaii). I love that they don't rush you and that everything is always plated beautifully and is good quality. This visit was consistent with those experiences but we tried some of the sushi rolls this time for happy hour and they certainly weren't as flavorful as the other appetizers and entrees I've tried. With that being said, service was great and ambiance was fantastic-- I love how clean they keep it here. Pro tip: dine during their happy hours! You can save money and when we went (4PM on a Wednesday) it felt like we had the entire restaurant to ourselves until about 5PM! read more

I've been to Roy's Hawaii Kai location, but this was my first visit to the Waikiki one. We came for happy hour (2-4:30pm). They don't take reservations during that window, but there were plenty of seats, so no stress about getting a table. The house red that day was Bonanza Cabernet Sauvignon -- solid and easy to drink. For food, I ordered the Szechuan Pork Ribs and the Shibby Roll. I've had the ribs at the Hawaii Kai location as well, and every time I feel like they'd be perfect with a side of rice... and definitely some wet napkins. The rolls were good, though I would've preferred them not deep‑fried so the fish flavor could stand out more. One piece even had a small fish bone -- luckily I caught it before swallowing. Service was excellent overall. Multiple staff members checked in, which sometimes felt a bit repetitive since they didn't seem to know who had already stopped by, but I'd still take that over being ignored. I enjoyed the happy hour at Roy's. We sat outside but our table was nicely shaded. The Hibiscus Mist mocktail was pretty and refreshing. The Crispy Zucchini Bao Bun was strange... not really like bao at all. There was a large fried zucchini piece on top of a piece of toasted (?) bread, which wasn't adding anything to the dish at all. Perhaps a smaller piece on a steamed bao bun would be better. The Blue Crab Ravioli was very rich and buttery. My favorite was the Shibby Roll. Although dessert is not included in the happy hour pricing, the Peanut Butter Crunch Bar is delightful (though I would have preferred it with raspberries or strawberries instead of blueberries). read more

Brought a friend from out of town to Roy's for her birthday. And it's a great place for that kind of celebration. I always say Roy's isn't going to blow you away with their food but it's always solid and never disappoints. I prefer the Hawaii Kai location but this one isn't bad at all. Very easy to get a reservation on open table. Protip: use your sapphire reserve card if you have one to make the reservation in open table (as of 2026) & pay for the meal. Iykyk It's located on the first floor of the embassy suites in Waikiki--right across from Dennys. Protip: if you're driving, just do valet. It's $8 with validation. I got the tasting menu with some sort of Zucchini Bao Bun with a bit of a salad & Brussels sprouts. It was tasty but they served this fried thing -- maybe zucchini? with sauce on top of a half of a bao bun. So the bun itself was dry and lacked flavor but the thing on top was great. The dish seemed disjointed and not well integrated in that regard. Why even give me a bao bun? For the main I had the salmon which was delicious. It came with a wonderful shoyu sauce and a cool rice croquette thing. Fish was cooked perfectly and the sauce brought everything together. There was also a refreshing salad on the side with a really sweet tasting dressing that was great. And the 3rd course was the Roy's chocolate soufflé which was awesome as always. If you get nothing else at Roy's, try the soufflé. The acid in the raspberry sauce cuts through the decadent chocolate beautifully. My friend had the macadamia nut crusted fish with asparagus and she said it was wonderful. Since it was her birthday, they brought out a little something for her as well. Very nice touch. Great service as always at Roy's. If you're in Waikiki and want a fancy meal, give Roy's a go. It's a hair on the pricey side for what you actually get in terms of food quality but the service and the soufflé are worth it. read more

Roy was a solid choice for celebrating a wedding anniversary. Dimmed lights in a warm colored room made it romantic but there was an array of people here, from families with kids and couples from varying ages. We had Erik S as our server and he was stellar. We took his recommendations on the specials with fish and tried both the codfish with butter and swordfish with macaroni. Both great. We also really enjoyed the ribs and bao bun. We've been coming here for many years, and some things never change. Great food, outstanding service, and many wonderful memories. We celebrated our 30th anniversary here, and we were also here 30 years ago during our honeymoon. So glad to see that Roy's has maintained their reputation, and have possibly even gotten better as the years go by. I had the macadamia nut swordfish and my wife the lobster tempura, both excellent dishes. My wife's from Maine, so she knows her lobster, and enjoyed every bite. Husband and I went in for lunch before heading back home after spending the weekend in Waikiki. We were greeted and seated immediately. Manager on duty Akoni was amazing and very tentative to us. We also met the GM who was very welcoming as well. I do apologize, but I can't remember our servers name (I am so sorry) but he was amazing as well. Our drinks were constantly full, our appetizers that came out were DELICIOUS and our entrees was spot in. I got the truffle burger (I think thats what it was, lol) sorry if it's wrong. But that was cooked to my liking, it was so juicy and filling. The fries were nice and crispy. My husband got the salmon and he loved it. We had accidentally booked the other location for a reservation but the Waikiki location took us immediately! Upon seating, they provided napkins to us personally and always checked on us. We can't tell you the names of everything we ordered so i included photos - all we know is everything was SO YUMMY. We first started off with the crab cakes and Brussel sprouts for appetizers and this already hit it out of the park! The crab cakes were thick and full of crab and the Brussels were seasoned to perfection. My fiancé then ordered sushi and i ordered a dinner sampler. We were stuffed at this point! The portions are larger than fine dining but smaller than a regular mom and pop. The staff became aware of our engagement earlier in the day and surprised us with complimentary congratulatory desserts along side our order of halo halo. It was so sweet of them to include this in our meal! The lighting was not super dim which we enjoyed and the guests were lively which was nice to see around dinner time. My group of 9 made a reservation and we immediately had a table ready. We got waters and ordered drinks. Those who were 21+ got carded and our server (Yoshi) would crack jokes here and there with us. Roy's Hawaiian fusion is located at the west end of the embassy suites hotel. We walked here today for their SUNDAY happy hour. Unheard of right? All the ninth island locations are closed and have been for some time. So this was a treat for me as I was always a big fan of Roy's. We sat at the bar of course and I had a pineapple martini which isn't on the happy hour menu. My wife had a bikini blonde; don't let your mind run too wild, it's actually a beer on tap. I also ordered a shibby roll and Kanpai roll. Both arrived and were delicious. The shibby had tempura on the outside, salmon roe and it was delicious. The Kanpai roll was equally as delicious with crispy mochi and bacon. The island Roy's are actually run by chef Roy still which is awesome. The ambience was great, the servers were great as well as the bartenders and the overall experience and value was excellent. A $700 family meal turns into the worst food poisoning nightmare. I ordered the hawaiian poke and something was wrong with their raw fish. Spent the rest of my vacation in absolute cold sweats and with the worst food poisoning symptoms i ever experienced for 3 days. Will never eat here again and was the most costly food poisoning ever. We even tipped 20% just to be poisoned later and suffer. This is a health hazard and completely unacceptable from such an establishment. The poke came last as well out of every dish, so i'm not sure if it was the bottom of whatever was left but either way, an absolute horrific experience. Roy's Wakiki delivered top shelf service, incredible food, and a Hawaiian formal/casual environment. I write this review with passion when I say when you order the short ribs and the macadamia catch, do so with the pairings. Our server, Damon was spot on with all of his recommendations. The service was next level. They never let my cup of water get less than 1/4 empty. Put the napkins in our lap. And gave us fresh silverware and plates in between meals. There's something traditionally classic about visiting Roy's Waikiki, as this restaurant along with two others on the island of Oahu reminds me of the power and entrepreneurial spirit of owner and namesake Roy Yamaguchi. With this location on the corner of Lewers Street and Kalia Road on the ground floor of the Embassy Suites by Hilton Waikiki Beach Walk, Roy's Waikiki has taken its place among Waikiki's most preeminent and durable restaurants in the neighborhood thanks to their prominent place towards the corner of the Waikiki Beach Walk, a promenade shopping center that has been around for decades that is noteworthy for having Lewers Street bisect the property from Kalākaua Avenue to Kālia Road. Of course being a long time patron of various Roy's restaurants from past locations in San Francisco to remaining locations in San Diego, a lot has changed in the past few years as chef and owner Roy Yamaguchi only now owns and operates the restaurants that bear his name in the Aloha state only, as all of the other signature Roy's are now owned by another entity and many of which have since closed. Thankfully no such story is in the future for this location of Roy's which remains and for the most part is still thriving. Of course what brought me here was the fact that Roy's Waikiki still offers Happy Hour every day for customers to enjoy from 2 to 5 p.m. in their bar and patio area. With affordable prices and a robust menu that I managed to check out ahead of time, I was sold on making the walk down to the corner where Roy's is located and sit at the bar of which their team was so welcoming. I managed to make it in time with about an hour or so to spare with other bar patrons filing out, and their customers ready to enjoy their regular dinner service. The Happy Hour menu at Roy's Waikiki is separated into categories including Wine and Beer, Cocktails, Sushi/ Sashimi, Appetizers/ Small Plates. To drink I ordered their Lilikoi Spritzer which had silver rum, lilikoi, lime and soda, which when combined together made for a refreshing cocktail. For my dinner, I ordered their Shibby Roll which consisted of Kanpachi fish, spicy tuna, garlic salmon and topped with Asian pesto, and served with Chili Sesame Soy and their Asian BBQ Pulled Beef & Duck Confit Sliders which were three small sliders topped with kimchi coleslaw, crispy onions, and spicy aioli. My drink would come out first and it was a nice way to start my meal and only aided when the Shibby Roll showed up ready for me to eat. It was a deep fried sushi roll delight and was enough food to satisfy any appetite. So much so that when the Asian BBQ Pulled Beef & Duck Confit Sliders showed up next, I was already overwhelmed with the amount of food that I was going to have to consume, but gave it my best shot. The sliders were not great, as they were three soggy sliders where the taste was lacking as well. If I had the chance to order something again, it would not be this option as I instantly knew that I could be better served ordering the Kanpai Roll or their Blue Crab Ravioli to make my dinner complete. What cannot be denied is that Roy's Waikiki serves up warm comforting dishes inspired by dishes from both Asia and Hawaii and when served during Happy Hour at affordable prices. My total bill was $38.74 before gratuity was added in, and at Roy's Waikiki service still comes first after all these years. May their reign here along the Waikiki Beach Walk continue for generations to come. read more
