I've been to Roy's Hawaii Kai location, but this was my first visit to the Waikiki one. We came for happy hour (2-4:30pm). They don't take reservations during that window, but there were plenty of seats, so no stress about getting a table. The house red that day was Bonanza Cabernet Sauvignon -- solid and easy to drink. For food, I ordered the Szechuan Pork Ribs and the Shibby Roll. I've had the ribs at the Hawaii Kai location as well, and every time I feel like they'd be perfect with a side of rice... and definitely some wet napkins. The rolls were good, though I would've preferred them not deep‑fried so the fish flavor could stand out more. One piece even had a small fish bone -- luckily I caught it before swallowing. Service was excellent overall. Multiple staff members checked in, which sometimes felt a bit repetitive since they didn't seem to know who had already stopped by, but I'd still take that over being ignored. Overall, I enjoyed the food and the experience. If they expand the happy hour food and drink options a bit more, I'd happily come back.
I enjoyed the happy hour at Roy's. We sat outside but our table was nicely shaded. The Hibiscus Mist mocktail was pretty and refreshing. The Crispy Zucchini Bao Bun was strange... not really like bao at all. There was a large fried zucchini piece on top of a piece of toasted (?) bread, which wasn't adding anything to the dish at all. Perhaps a smaller piece on a steamed bao bun would be better. The Blue Crab Ravioli was very rich and buttery. My favorite was the Shibby Roll. Although dessert is not included in the happy hour pricing, the Peanut Butter Crunch Bar is delightful (though I would have preferred it with raspberries or strawberries instead of blueberries).
Brought a friend from out of town to Roy's for her birthday. And it's a great place for that kind of celebration. I always say Roy's isn't going to blow you away with their food but it's always solid and never disappoints. I prefer the Hawaii Kai location but this one isn't bad at all. Very easy to get a reservation on open table. Protip: use your sapphire reserve card if you have one to make the reservation in open table (as of 2026) & pay for the meal. Iykyk It's located on the first floor of the embassy suites in Waikiki--right across from Dennys. Protip: if you're driving, just do valet. It's $8 with validation. I got the tasting menu with some sort of Zucchini Bao Bun with a bit of a salad & Brussels sprouts. It was tasty but they served this fried thing -- maybe zucchini? with sauce on top of a half of a bao bun. So the bun itself was dry and lacked flavor but the thing on top was great. The dish seemed disjointed and not well integrated in that regard. Why even give me a bao bun? For the main I had the salmon which was delicious. It came with a wonderful shoyu sauce and a cool rice croquette thing. Fish was cooked perfectly and the sauce brought everything together. There was also a refreshing salad on the side with a really sweet tasting dressing that was great. And the 3rd course was the Roy's chocolate soufflé which was awesome as always. If you get nothing else at Roy's, try the soufflé. The acid in the raspberry sauce cuts through the decadent chocolate beautifully. My friend had the macadamia nut crusted fish with asparagus and she said it was wonderful. Since it was her birthday, they brought out a little something for her as well. Very nice touch. Great service as always at Roy's. If you're in Waikiki and want a fancy meal, give Roy's a go. It's a hair on the pricey side for what you actually get in terms of food quality but the service and the soufflé are worth it.
Roy was a solid choice for celebrating a wedding anniversary. Dimmed lights in a warm colored room made it romantic but there was an array of people here, from families with kids and couples from varying ages. We had Erik S as our server and he was stellar. We took his recommendations on the specials with fish and tried both the codfish with butter and swordfish with macaroni. Both great. We also really enjoyed the ribs and bao bun. Thanks Erik for being so mindful of my allergies and also sending a cake for us to celebrate the occasion.
I usually love Roy's, but this location ( obviously ) is a tourist trap. The food was not that good. I got the trio sampler and a sushi roll. The roll was amazing g. The fish trio was so well done even the butterfish was tough. Very unfortunate. That said, I sat at the bar and the bartender was great. She was on top of her game for a busy night. There was a huge line and the restaurant was packed. I won't go again, but in general I'm guessing this was just a crowded night.
I hadn't eaten at Roy's since a visit to LA. The Waikiki location maintains the refinement of its Cali cousin. It's worth the hype. Hawaii is not known for great food, but you can find good eats. Consider Roy's for an upscale dining experience. Two servers, great attention to detail. Complimentary birthday desserts. Vegan accommodations. Try the crispy zucchini appetizer! So good.
We've been coming here for many years, and some things never change. Great food, outstanding service, and many wonderful memories. We celebrated our 30th anniversary here, and we were also here 30 years ago during our honeymoon. So glad to see that Roy's has maintained their reputation, and have possibly even gotten better as the years go by. I had the macadamia nut swordfish and my wife the lobster tempura, both excellent dishes. My wife's from Maine, so she knows her lobster, and enjoyed every bite. We were treated to dessert to celebrate the occasion, and it couldn't have been any nicer. Thank you Roy's for a wonderful evening.
We had accidentally booked the other location for a reservation but the Waikiki location took us immediately! Upon seating, they provided napkins to us personally and always checked on us. We can't tell you the names of everything we ordered so i included photos - all we know is everything was SO YUMMY. We first started off with the crab cakes and Brussel sprouts for appetizers and this already hit it out of the park! The crab cakes were thick and full of crab and the Brussels were seasoned to perfection. My fiancé then ordered sushi and i ordered a dinner sampler. We were stuffed at this point! The portions are larger than fine dining but smaller than a regular mom and pop. The staff became aware of our engagement earlier in the day and surprised us with complimentary congratulatory desserts along side our order of halo halo. It was so sweet of them to include this in our meal! The lighting was not super dim which we enjoyed and the guests were lively which was nice to see around dinner time. It's a great spot for dinner time and celebrations :)
Came here for a celebration dinner. Everything was excellent! They have top notch service and a nice menu of delicious meals. We tried the combo meals to try as much as possible. If you're looking for a nice place to dine in Waikiki, this is a good choice. I highly recommend the pineapple upside down cake for dessert it was one of my favorite desserts ever!

Roy's is my favorite Pacific-Asian Cuisine restaurant in Hawaii. Roy Yamaguchi is a master of sauces, and his dishes are very tasty. I have his cookbook and he incorporates a lot of different Asian ingredients into each dish. The dishes are also cooked to perfection (not over cooked & not undercooked). I've been eating at Roy's for over 25 years, several times a year, and they never disappoint. My favorite location is Waikiki. Why? Executive Chef Jason Ichiki is the best Chef of their three locations on Oahu. He has delicious dishes that the other Roy's locations doesn't have. My group of 9 made a reservation and we immediately had a table ready. We got waters and ordered drinks. Those who were 21+ got carded and our server (Yoshi) would crack jokes here and there with us. We ordered appetizers: flatbread, sampler platter, pork belly. The flatbread or pork belly was not outstanding. However I would get the sampler platter again. The ribs were awesome. Just the right amount of sauce and it tasted almost like char siu. The shrimp was good and the rest I did not try myself. It was eaten though. My dish was the shrimp and ravioli. I was excited for every aspect and was disappointed to see barely any asparagus but Yoshi said it was SEA asparagus. I was still wanting a little bit more veg on my plate. Flavor wise: AMAZING. Would absolutely order again. My bf got the trio. The macadamia nut fish was a cool take on a trout almondine. The butterfish was incredible. And the salmon was his favorite. I also gave the butterfish a huge recommendation with the group I was with and two people ordered it. Tasty!! Now, the Star of the show /(most impressive for me to like) for me was surprisingly the chocolate lava cake "soufflé". I'm not a fan of chocolate cake but I ate my fair share. We ordered four for the table and I ate 1.5 One really detrimental part of the night however was our table was in front of the AC and I was shivering for the 2-3 hours we were in there. I noticed my group had goosebumps as well.

Service was great, though it did feel like we had about six different people helping us. Maybe they have designated staff for drinks, food delivery, and taking orders, but it did feel a bit overwhelming. Still, everyone was friendly and attentive overall. The tuna sushi was amazing, but the catch of the day wasn't good very chewy and disappointing. The salmon was pretty basic. It was nice to try a new restaurant, but I wouldn't come back. read more

Roy's was our best dinner in Waikiki. Roy's pinaple coconut martini was to die for. Ceasar salad was a hit, much better that the greens salad. The crab cakes are excellent and i have very high standards for crab cakes... literally the second best if sll time. All of the sushi rolls were great. The pork chop was the best eever, with an amazing sauce. The ube creme brulee was amazing. We also enjoyed the pineapple upside-down cake and the mango sorbet. We will return over and over. read more

If you know this franchise, you know Roy's is famous for a reason. The hostess greeted us so warmly. We were seated right away for our reservation. Food was on point. Each dish was delicious and the flavors were well thought out. Our server was very professional and knew the menu well. Only downside is the prices have definitely gone up. A family of 4 on this night out racked up nearly $400 bill. No alcohol either. For me it is worth it, but prepare your wallet. However, this is what fine dining should be like. read more

Made reservations for a team dinner and they didn't disappoint. From the views to the food and the excellent service everything was great. Everything the team ordered was excellent and no one complained. Truly appreciated the hospitality and the room we were provided the restaurant was a hit. read more
Roy's Hawaiian fusion is located at the west end of the embassy suites hotel. We walked here today for their SUNDAY happy hour. Unheard of right? All the ninth island locations are closed and have been for some time. So this was a treat for me as I was always a big fan of Roy's. We sat at the bar of course and I had a pineapple martini which isn't on the happy hour menu. My wife had a bikini blonde; don't let your mind run too wild, it's actually a beer on tap. I also ordered a shibby roll and Kanpai roll. Both arrived and were delicious. The shibby had tempura on the outside, salmon roe and it was delicious. The Kanpai roll was equally as delicious with crispy mochi and bacon. The island Roy's are actually run by chef Roy still which is awesome. The ambience was great, the servers were great as well as the bartenders and the overall experience and value was excellent. Roy's is still as awesome as I remember it and I'm glad we were able to walk to this location to enjoy some drinks and light bites. read more

The pineapple martini, there are no words for how good this drink is. It's so yummy. Yummy yummy yummy. Don't eat that pineapple though..... they soak in vodka for ages and you will be wasted (I know from experience lol) Tonight we had the garlic sushi roll and it was the bomb. Always love me some Roy's. read more
What a special place to celebrate our family's birthdays. The atmosphere is clean and very high class. Service was top tier with Collin our server giving us the insight to all what's amazing there. The food was prepared fresh and tasted amazing. Highly recommend. read more

Everything was stellar from the cozy yet traditionally upscale ambiance, friendly staff and the food! I got the trio along with some apps and they were all phenomenal. The chef is extremely talented and innovative, pairing ingredients with highest quality flavors and garnishes. The presentation of the food to the taste were consistently good. read more
What We Ordered: Mai tai, fish taco, salad Highlights: * Service: friendly service, very busy to make a reservation, able to sit outside without a reservation with a more casual dining experience. * Food/Drinks: fish tacos were very good, salad with pretty basic, mai tai was pretty good like a 7/10 not my favorite but better than most * Ambiance: large searing area inside and out, music outside * Price: more expensive than other restaurants on Honolulu however it is an iconic restaurant so prices are based on this. read more
A $700 family meal turns into the worst food poisoning nightmare. I ordered the hawaiian poke and something was wrong with their raw fish. Spent the rest of my vacation in absolute cold sweats and with the worst food poisoning symptoms i ever experienced for 3 days. Will never eat here again and was the most costly food poisoning ever. We even tipped 20% just to be poisoned later and suffer. This is a health hazard and completely unacceptable from such an establishment. The poke came last as well out of every dish, so i'm not sure if it was the bottom of whatever was left but either way, an absolute horrific experience. The ones who got posioned were the only ones who had the poke. read more
Ambiance-5/5 Food-3/5 Drinks-4/5 Ambiance and service are always really on point but it should be based on price point. Drinks were good. My meals was very salty and not my favorite. We ordered the escargot as an appetizer and that was a 5/5+. It was delicious and flavorful. read more

The crab cakes were just decent!! Came here for appetizer and glass of wine! Wanted to try Roy's where it's originated from so the vibe was good ! The service was good and fast and they were able to sit us down on a busy night!! Very good ambiance and nice bar outside!! This Roy gets packed! Will come back to try! read more

We enjoyed a lovely evening at Roy's. We had the Roy's Classic Trio and every bite was delicious. We also had the Pineapple Upside Down Cake, which should be served with an advisory since it is addictive. The service was excellent and all the staff were friendly and offered great suggestions. The atmosphere is casual sophistication. Not cheap, but worth every penny! read more

I was expecting better especially for $350 party of two dinner. the duck plate was not good at all. two slices of duck and a strip of something. the skin was chewy. the fish was over marinated and completely killed the fish. perhaps to hide something with the freshness? the crab cake was not worth $32. no better than Whole Foods you can buy for $10. the service felt rush and they were that busy. i cannot recommend or go to another Roy's. read more
I was saving writing all of my reviews until this trip was over but I haven't left a restaurant that ecstatic in a while. Roy's Wakiki delivered top shelf service, incredible food, and a Hawaiian formal/casual environment. I write this review with passion when I say when you order the short ribs and the macadamia catch, do so with the pairings. Our server, Damon was spot on with all of his recommendations. The service was next level. They never let my cup of water get less than 1/4 empty. Put the napkins in our lap. And gave us fresh silverware and plates in between meals. If you're in Wakiki and you want an incredible dining experience, this is your spot. One of my most proud, cheers! read more
There's something traditionally classic about visiting Roy's Waikiki, as this restaurant along with two others on the island of Oahu reminds me of the power and entrepreneurial spirit of owner and namesake Roy Yamaguchi. With this location on the corner of Lewers Street and Kalia Road on the ground floor of the Embassy Suites by Hilton Waikiki Beach Walk, Roy's Waikiki has taken its place among Waikiki's most preeminent and durable restaurants in the neighborhood thanks to their prominent place towards the corner of the Waikiki Beach Walk, a promenade shopping center that has been around for decades that is noteworthy for having Lewers Street bisect the property from Kalākaua Avenue to Kālia Road. Of course being a long time patron of various Roy's restaurants from past locations in San Francisco to remaining locations in San Diego, a lot has changed in the past few years as chef and owner Roy Yamaguchi only now owns and operates the restaurants that bear his name in the Aloha state only, as all of the other signature Roy's are now owned by another entity and many of which have since closed. Thankfully no such story is in the future for this location of Roy's which remains and for the most part is still thriving. Of course what brought me here was the fact that Roy's Waikiki still offers Happy Hour every day for customers to enjoy from 2 to 5 p.m. in their bar and patio area. With affordable prices and a robust menu that I managed to check out ahead of time, I was sold on making the walk down to the corner where Roy's is located and sit at the bar of which their team was so welcoming. I managed to make it in time with about an hour or so to spare with other bar patrons filing out, and their customers ready to enjoy their regular dinner service. The Happy Hour menu at Roy's Waikiki is separated into categories including Wine and Beer, Cocktails, Sushi/ Sashimi, Appetizers/ Small Plates. To drink I ordered their Lilikoi Spritzer which had silver rum, lilikoi, lime and soda, which when combined together made for a refreshing cocktail. For my dinner, I ordered their Shibby Roll which consisted of Kanpachi fish, spicy tuna, garlic salmon and topped with Asian pesto, and served with Chili Sesame Soy and their Asian BBQ Pulled Beef & Duck Confit Sliders which were three small sliders topped with kimchi coleslaw, crispy onions, and spicy aioli. My drink would come out first and it was a nice way to start my meal and only aided when the Shibby Roll showed up ready for me to eat. It was a deep fried sushi roll delight and was enough food to satisfy any appetite. So much so that when the Asian BBQ Pulled Beef & Duck Confit Sliders showed up next, I was already overwhelmed with the amount of food that I was going to have to consume, but gave it my best shot. The sliders were not great, as they were three soggy sliders where the taste was lacking as well. If I had the chance to order something again, it would not be this option as I instantly knew that I could be better served ordering the Kanpai Roll or their Blue Crab Ravioli to make my dinner complete. What cannot be denied is that Roy's Waikiki serves up warm comforting dishes inspired by dishes from both Asia and Hawaii and when served during Happy Hour at affordable prices. My total bill was $38.74 before gratuity was added in, and at Roy's Waikiki service still comes first after all these years. May their reign here along the Waikiki Beach Walk continue for generations to come. read more
I thought it had gone downhill over the decades, but friends remind me, it has always been this way. I love it. Convenient, no need for reservations with a small group, and the food is consistent. We had a $55 early bird prefix meal. It was delicious! We started off with a wedge salad with hamachi. Then we had a perfectly cooked steak with crispy lotus roots. We polished it off with a matcha lava cake and ice cream. We couldn't have asked for a better meal. Our server Koby was so knowledgeable and professional. No you cannot. Duke's and Hula Grill are better options.

Yes, there is a very limited kids menu but the prices are still reflective of Roy's.
Do they take gift cards?
No they do not. The Roy's on the mainland is owned by another company (that produces the gift cards), but this one is owned by Roy himself. Any Roy's in Hawaii is only owned by the original Roy.
Do you have to make reservations or can you just walk in?
Most likely need reservations for dinner

Anyone order anything gluten free? Can't really tell from menu... it is for a teen so nothing super fancy (Lol)...
There was a good amount of gluten free options and the waiter offered to have something specifically made. Most of the food was fresh fish, veggies and fruits. And all really yummy.
Is there a dress code?
No beach/swim wear, no tank top for men. Flip flop is OK.
Where is the nearest or best parking?
Embassy suites! Check in on Yelp and get 3 hours parking free.
What are the best tables at Roy's in summer?
Sit inside it's way too hot and muggy to sit out on the patio.
