These hot malasadas was highly recommended as a must-try in Hawaii but we were a bit underwhelmed. Tried some of the regular ones and the custard filled ones. They were good but nothing mind blowing or new? Not sure what the hype is but will definitely skip next time.

As a mainland resident, I gotta say EXCELLENT! It would be fantastic for breakfast with a hot cup of coffee overlooking the ocean. A must try in Oahu.

Best Malasadas on Oahu! Pro tip..order ahead and avoid having to wait in line. We got the original, cinnamon, custard, and hulapia all which were amazing!

I love the fact that we have a Leonard's Malasada mobile truck on the Windward side! It's located at the Haiku/Kam Hy corner parking lot of the Windward Mall. They are open every day from 7am-7pm, 6pm on Sundays. Every time I have a friend in town from the mainland, it's definitely one of the places we have to stop at. And why do we have to stop here?! Well, if you have to ask, then you've never had a Leonard's Malasada before. It's Hawaii's version of a round, deep fried, dense, doughy, sugary hole less Portuguese donut and it's deliciously sinful. It's very simple, you have the most popular, the custard puffs. Malasadas filled with either chocolate dobash, custard or coconut haupia creamiest filling. If you're having a guilty indulgence feeling, you can go with no filling and get the ones rolled in original sugar, cinnamon or my absolute favorite, the LiHing sugar donut. They are a bit pricey, sugar ones are $1.85 and custards are $2.25 which makes a dozen $27! I'm kinda glad they're expensive, it keeps me from becoming one big Roly poly!! LOL They got a fun new traingular tip "jar" instead of the hand written box, if you tip them and then ask for extra sugar, it's doubley delicious! They are definitely better eaten while they're hot, but you can microwave them for 30-45 seconds the next day and they're still good. So if you happen to be going through Kaneohe, let it be on your cheat day and indulge!!

I would fly to hawaii literally just to get these and fly right back, that's how much I love them. hot and fresh and delicious, leonard's never disappoints! I normally go to the brick and mortar location in honolulu but found myself craving malasadas in kaneohe so lucky for me, the truck was open and close by! I will definitely be back.

Original & custard malasadas

Malasadas are like donuts but better because you get the extra carb that a donut lacks. They are generously-sized balls of dough that are fried until it's golden brown on the outside and light & fluffy on the inside. The original one is coated with sugar, but you have the option to coat with cinnamon sugar or li hing; plus you can get it stuffed with with custard, chocolate, and haupia. The best part is how convenient the truck is if you live in Kaneohe and the freshness, as they do fry the dough as ordered. Do your tummy a favor and just order one of each, although I do recommend the original and custard malasadas! Mahalo

I wish I knew their hours...but then again, maybe it's good that I don't know! Sometimes this Food Truck is at the parking lot of Windward Mall at the corner of Haiku Road and Kamehameha Highway in Kaneohe (the Windward side of Oahu)...and sometimes it's not there. For sure, the truck is here for Fat Tuesday, also known as Mardi Gras (the day before Ash Wednesday, which is the start of Lent). It has the same quality malasadas as the original location on Kapahulu Avenue in Honolulu. I like Leonard's malasadas (Portuguese doughnuts) better than the competition because these are light and fluffy when they are hot and fresh. It's best to be eaten right away when the sugar isn't melted yet. That crisp, brown outer layer and the warm, soft inner goodness doesn't have the yeasty flavor like the competition. I noticed that the taste is consistent and doesn't have the oily feel like other malasadas. Recently, Dear Daniel, my lunch buddy, brought a dozen Leonard's malasadas to our UYE picnic at the beach. I gobbled one up right away! There were 6 left at the end of the event, so I scored and took them home! I warmed three of them up in the microwave for about 10 seconds...almost as good as fresh, but still YUM!! That was my breakfast! I took the remaining 3 to work. My coworker had one and I had two - YAY for me! haha! That's how good they are! Yesterday - I saw the truck right after I bought a quart of gelato at the supermarket. ARG! I let the gelato melt in the car while I feasted on 2 of those hot & fresh malasadas in the parking lot! They didn't even make it home!! Haha! Every time I see this Food Truck, I want to stop by and get a malasada... but I know that I shouldn't because one is not enough... you know what I'm talking about! The truck doesn't have the Flavor of the Day filling, but they do have Custard, Dobash (chocolate), and Haupia (coconut) filled ones for $1.65 plus tax. The Original, Li Hing, and Cinnamon flavored ones are currently $1.25 each plus tax. These are rolled in sugar. The filled ones are injected with pudding. To me, the Original ones are the best! So - if you haven't had one yet, go get one (or 2)! There's also a Malasadamobile at the Waikele Outlet. For regular hours (but limited parking), go to the shop at Kapahulu Avenue. YUM YUM!!!

I don't have to drive over the hill? Whaaaaaaaaaat?? Love this little truck! Picked up whatever they had left to share with my parents, who live in Kaneohe. They ran out of dobash and the two little girls in front of me were sad. Again, if I don't have to drive over the hill....SCORE! Mahalo Leonard Jr!

Very hard to say no to Leonard's malasadas. Although I'd rather go to the actual store, the truck is more than adequate for the location!

To celebrate Brown's birthday, I searched my Yelp app and found Napoleon's Bakery. Located inside of Zippy's, this bakery is convenient, has free parking, lots of variety, and has friendly service. We chose a Pianomo Roll, a chocolate-filled donut, and a famous Apple Napple. The Pianomo Roll is great for simple palates because it's a soft cake, rolled in butter and granulated sugar! For chocolate lovers, the chocolate-filled donut is just right because the fluffy yeast donut surrounds the rich center to balance it. Rounding out our sugar rush, we got the flakey Apple Napple. The crunchy exterior and fruity filling helped to satisfy our sweet tooths! If you haven't had anything from Napoleon's Bakery, other recommended items are the Long Johns, Chantilly cake, and Dobash cake. If you're celebrating a special occasion, they can write a greeting with icing on the cake! They also have mixes such as cornbread, pancake, and mochiko chicken batter mix so you can enjoy fresh goodness at home or send/bring to friends/family on the mainland. Just browse and you'll find something for anyone!

So when I found myself heading home from my parents, I stopped here to eat cause I was starving! I entered and it was a little busy so it took a while for the friendly server to come give me a seat, and she apologized. The menu is pretty extensive with a lot to choose from. I decided on the Hapa Loco Moco, a corned beef patty and a hamburger patty. I also asked to sub the kim chee fried rice, which is extra. I also ordered a side of mac salad, which was good, but different. But the Hapa is really good! Rich gravy over it all. I do wish there was more corned beef than potatoes in the patty, but it was good. I do recommend getting the kim chee fried rice because it's AMAAAAAAAAAAZINGLY delicious! So full of flavor! They're open from 6am-1pm, and by the time we got there, a few items we wanted to try were already sold out. If you have your heart set on something specific, definitely come early. Cash only!! One of the sweetest parts of the experience was the owner -- a sweet older lady who takes your order herself and carefully packages everything up for you. It feels very personal and old-school in the best way. Here's what we tried: Long John - The star of the show. It's served chilled and doesn't look like your typical long john. The donut itself was light, pillowy, and slightly crispy. The texture contrast was perfect. We'd honestly come back just for this. Mochi An Pan - Really good. The mochi had that satisfying chew, the red bean wasn't overly sweet, and the bread was soft and fresh. Mushroom & Onion - Savory and comforting. The cream sauce was flavorful and paired well with the soft bread Ham & Cream Cheese - This one was a bit too dense for us, likely because of the cream cheese topping. Not bad, just heavier than we prefer. Parking is easy and plentiful since it's in the same lot as the movie theater. I couldn't decide between chicken salad and egg, so I got them both. Great choice! The sandwich bread is so soft, it's like a sweet bread bun. So many choices of breads!!! I wish there was a pack of assorted cream-filled buns. Hint, hint I love all of their goodies. This past Thanksgiving I ordered custard pumpkin pies from Ani's. I used their website to place an online order the day before, which was pretty user-friendly including pics of the baked goods available. I wanted to get a few pastries for myself to try and bring some poi malasadas for my volunteer group. I saw they also sold sandwiches, which I was unaware of & was happy to see they had a chicken salad sandwich that I ended up ordering. Pick-up was scheduled for 9AM. They are easy to find and located across the street from the Halawa rec center. As other yelpers have mentioned, parking can be tricky but there is ample parking. Just be sure not to park in any stalls marked reserved. When I got there, there were only 2 customers ahead of me, a man in the store, and a lady just outside the door. Apparently they limit the amount of people in the door because of how small the area is and probably same set-up from covid time. Plus if there are already people at the register, there's a sign on the door that says, "the line starts here." So even though I ordered ahead, I still had to wait to get in. They should at least have another employee help with just pick-up orders to move the line along in case customers in front of you have huge orders. After I stood there waiting, 3 more people lined up behind me. Once I got to the counter, the girl had to go in the back to get my order which was already bagged when she brought it to me. It took about 10 minutes altogether from waiting in line to leaving. She was nice and friendly and the front area was kept clean. Poi malasadas, $2 each - good sized and ono, nice & soft, not overly sweet. Blueberry scone, $3.60 - meh, on the dry side & looks like they use frozen blueberries or preserved, not worth it. Butter roll, $1.45 - meh, on the dry side even after warming it. Long john, $3.90 - ono, hands down one of the best I've had. It is a little pricier than other bakeries but it is huge. They do not skimp on the custard, filled to the max & it was tasty, not overly sweet. The only thing I didn't like was there was way too much powered sugar topping, which made the donut part too sweet. Still worth getting & way better than Zippy's. Chicken salad sandwich, $9.75 - one of the best I've had. Wasn't sure what to expect from a bakery but it was delicious & the price was very reasonable. Comes on a soft, sweet bread type roll and packed with chicken salad & lettuce. They also did not skimp on the chicken salad, which was also very flavorful. This sandwich was huge & barely fit the container it came in. I could only eat half because it was so filling. All sandwiches come with a bag of chips. Unfortunately, the website doesn't give you a choice of what you want, they just stuck a bag of fritos in the bag, which I was ok with. I would get this again. Overall, I was pleased with most of the food. Ordering online ahead of time was easy, friendly service at pick-up with a clean area, & ample free parking. I plan to come back and try some other goodies. Support local!
