Wow! I was wow-ed by the number of choices of "smeared breads." I remember at least 12, but here's our haul~ Strawberry, mocha cinnamon, guava, liliko'i, pnut butter cream! 2/11/26 First time coming to the bake shop even though I have had several of their yummy baked goods over the years. I used their website to place an online order the day before, which was pretty user-friendly including pics of the baked goods available. I wanted to get a few pastries for myself to try and bring some poi malasadas for my volunteer group. I saw they also sold sandwiches, which I was unaware of & was happy to see they had a chicken salad sandwich that I ended up ordering. Pick-up was scheduled for 9AM. They are easy to find and located across the street from the Halawa rec center. As other yelpers have mentioned, parking can be tricky but there is ample parking. Just be sure not to park in any stalls marked reserved. When I got there, there were only 2 customers ahead of me, a man in the store, and a lady just outside the door. Apparently they limit the amount of people in the door because of how small the area is and probably same set-up from covid time. Plus if there are already people at the register, there's a sign on the door that says, "the line starts here." So even though I ordered ahead, I still had to wait to get in. They should at least have another employee help with just pick-up orders to move the line along in case customers in front of you have huge orders. After I stood there waiting, 3 more people lined up behind me. Once I got to the counter, the girl had to go in the back to get my order which was already bagged when she brought it to me. It took about 10 minutes altogether from waiting in line to leaving. She was nice and friendly and the front area was kept clean. Poi malasadas, $2 each - good sized and ono, nice & soft, not overly sweet. Blueberry scone, $3.60 - meh, on the dry side & looks like they use frozen blueberries or preserved, not worth it. Butter roll, $1.45 - meh, on the dry side even after warming it. Long john, $3.90 - ono, hands down one of the best I've had. It is a little pricier than other bakeries but it is huge. They do not skimp on the custard, filled to the max & it was tasty, not overly sweet. The only thing I didn't like was there was way too much powered sugar topping, which made the donut part too sweet. Still worth getting & way better than Zippy's. Chicken salad sandwich, $9.75 - one of the best I've had. Wasn't sure what to expect from a bakery but it was delicious & the price was very reasonable. Comes on a soft, sweet bread type roll and packed with chicken salad & lettuce. They also did not skimp on the chicken salad, which was also very flavorful. This sandwich was huge & barely fit the container it came in. I could only eat half because it was so filling. All sandwiches come with a bag of chips. Unfortunately, the website doesn't give you a choice of what you want, they just stuck a bag of fritos in the bag, which I was ok with. I would get this again. Overall, I was pleased with most of the food. Ordering online ahead of time was easy, friendly service at pick-up with a clean area, & ample free parking. I plan to come back and try some other goodies. Support local! read more

A hidden gem! If you grew up in Hawaii then you've seen the iconic Ani's sweet bread at your local grocery store. But, did you know you can visit the bakery? The bakery is located in the heart of Halawa. It has limited hours with closing time being 12pm so come early! What I mostly go for are their cream rolls filled with a variety of flavored creams from coffee to lilikoi, strawberry, you name it, they probably have it! It's great for pot lucks or sharing with the office! Most recently, we tried their ham rolls which were delicious! Sweet bread with ham, onion, mayo & parsley baked into it. We also got a loaf of their famous sweet bread but with blueberry jam baked in it! They have a variety of pastries in the case as well as racks of their sweet breads. Besides blueberry jam they also had apricot jam and strawberry jam filled breads. If you're ever in the area, stop by! read more

If you want to try an amazing Chocolate Haupia Pie with a macadamia nut crust, come here. Additionally, our local friends come here for the Long John donuts and the Guava Butter filled Hawaiian Bread Rolls which are worth the carb splurge. For the gluten-free item, there is a mochi donut, but it was just ok. While the place is tiny and there is no seating, you might have to wait outside for a couple minutes until customers have left. read more

Ani's Bakery is a total gem for one-of-a-kind local treats! Their sweet bread rolls are excellent--split open and slathered right down the middle with amazing flavor fillings. The lilikoi is my absolute favorite, and you honestly can't find anything quite like them anywhere else. I would have given them 5 stars, but let's be real: this place is pretty notorious for some stern, no-nonsense customer service lol. I've been to Ani's twice and I can see the hype about it! Lots of great pastries at an affordable price. At my recent visit, I wanted to pick up some donuts, so I got the chocolate center glazed donuts. They were huge! A little bigger than the ones you see at other donut shops. The chocolate center was sweet and creamy, and the donut itself was pretty good. I noticed that they add in something a lil extra to my bag when they gave me my order. That's so sweet of them! This time they threw in a banana bread. I heard they're known for their butter cream rolls so maybe I'll try those next time. Definitely a spot to check out for quality pastries! read more

I didn't bring lunch to work and Ani's Bake Shop is nearby. As it was past "lunch hour," I wasn't sure if there would still be a selection of items. Luckily, they had a few sandwiches left. I couldn't decide between chicken salad and egg, so I got them both. Great choice! The sandwich bread is so soft, it's like a sweet bread bun. The sandwich is quite large and they do not skimp on the filling. I couldn't finish the first sandwich. The second went home with me for dinner. You know, I had to get some pastries for dessert, too. So many choices of breads!!! I wish there was a pack of assorted cream-filled buns. Hint, hint I love all of their goodies. This past Thanksgiving I ordered custard pumpkin pies from Ani's. The pick up process was so smooth and the pie yummy. Definitely doing that again for this year's Thanksgiving! read more

Lilikoi butter rolls! Sweet (Hawaiian) bread! I thought I reviewed Ani's when I shot the attached photo more than 8 years ago, but I guess not! Minutes before writing this review, I enjoyed a lilikoi butter roll despite having a filling lunch. The roll was as tasty as I remember it when I first had it 8 years ago. I remember their sweet bread as one of my favorites on all of Oahu. Ani's sweet breads are also sold in some supermarkets. The bake shop itself is a bit small like any other good bake shop and is somewhat tucked away in Halawa, but Ani's is still worth visiting. They sell pies, cakes, and seasonal items. Their lilikoi butter rolls are definitely the star though! read more

A friend of mine recommended this bakery, specifically for their Okinawan sweet potato haupia pie. Naturally I had to try it, lol. Aside from the Okinawan sweet potato haupia pie, I also got a chocolate haupia pie, cornbread, Lilikoi pound cake, and guava pound cake. The Okinawan sweet potato haupia pie was delicious! The haupia complimented the Okinawan sweet potato filling and didn't overpower it. The crust itself was on the softer side but the macadamia nuts added a nice crunch to the crust; I'm assuming it's macadamia nuts.. I'm not 100% but it was still a nice crunch. I'm giving the chocolate haupia pie to my daughter and I'm sure she'll enjoy it. I got the cornbread for my husband and he said it was really good. I'll definitely be back to try the other pies and baked goods! read more

Yes I'm still a fan of Ani's! Yes those pies are spendy but there's none better on this island. I'm apparently not the only person who thinks this because any time of the days there's a line waiting to get in as it's a tiny shop and three people make a crowd. My latest purchase was a banana cream pie and I'm sure it weighed four to five pounds, a macadamia nut crust and full of bananas. I still need to try their Key Lime Pie but my last stop was for birthday boy's choice. Their muffins are also off the charts good, favorites are the Orange Muffins which are not found in many shops but are awesome and those blueberry muffins which are so moist stuffed with blueberries. Pastries are huge and those long John's will give that North Shore Snow Puffy bakery a run for the money plus they're so big you can cut them in half and they're still bigger than most other bake shops. Did I mention they sell premade sandwiches too? Ani's is on the corner of IwaIwa Street and Iwaena Street at the beginning of Hālawa Industrial Area literally across the street from Halawa District Park. Parking is fronting the bakery but as mentioned they are quite popular so can be full however it moves fast. Give them a try, you will not be disappointed. read more

Fist time here, in the industrial park in Aiea off H-3 freeway. Small storefront , not much room for many customers to browse. Lots of pies, breads and pastries. Some refrigerated, so bring a cooler. Everything I tasted from Ani's Bake Shop is quality! The only thing their speciality pie's are nearly in the range of $40.00 each. To steep for me. Another 5 stars to my favorite Bakery I've been ordering pre-order pies from Ani's for the past 3 years and never disappoints. These guys got it organized so smoothly you pay online and you pick up across the street at the district park so convenient. They were also collecting non-perishable canned goods for St.Elizabeth church . I immediately went to my pantry and got a few things together. To my surprise i received a free Ani's sweet bread since I donated "Score" Happy Thanksgiving to everyone. If you haven't tried Ani' s pies I highly recommend. They sell all sorts of baked goods, such as Pies, Cheesecakes, Donuts, Scones, Danish, Muffins, Cinnamon Rolls, and thier infamous Sweet Rolls! Here's what I got: LILIKOI BARS - $3.90 If you love lemon bars, these are way better. It's less sour and more custardy, and soooo good! SWEAT BREAD PAN - $6.99 This is so much better King's Hawaiian Rolls. It took us some time to finally finish this pan of sweet bread. Soft, subtly sweet, and fluffy. They somehow are incredibly organized there. There was a table outside displaying the holiday items with the list, you can look at it while standing in line. Today we got gingerbread man cookies, a maunakea(cinnamon roll/monkeybread) in the shape of a mountain and lilikoi bars. Try their flavored breads. Their Sweet Potato Haupia Pie is something I can never get in the Mainland so will always pop in for a quick slice or entire pie when on the island to bring to family. My supervisor brought Ani's lilikoi butter cream rolls to work two weeks ago. It tasted so good that I kept dreaming about it. I went there this weekend and was sadly disappointed with my purchase. Ani's was so stingy with the cream spread on the one I bought. I ate all 12 rolls by myself and only 1 roll had enough spread on it. On the remaining rolls you can barely taste the spread. It's really too bad because i went there for the spread. If I wanted plain bread, I could have just bought Kings Hawaiian sweet rolls from Costco at a fraction of the price. The lilikoi butter cream roll was $18.95 before tax. I bought the lilikoi for myself and a strawberry one to give to a friend. I sure hope the one I gave to my friend had more butter spread than mine. Otherwise, it would be embarrassing because I kept raving about this bread to her. I was planning to buy this bread again for someone else, but now I'm totally turned off. For $18.95 I expected it to actually have the lilikoi butter spread inside, and not just a hint of it. The value for the money is definitely not there. People are better off buying Kings Hawaiian bread and putting their own spread inside. Maybe this was an isolated incident, but for the price I'm paying, I would prefer not to make that gamble. I will most likely not return to this bakery. read more

I've been going to Ani's for over two decades and they have never failed me. Their pastries are always moist and fresh and flavorful. They even have some old-school choices such as, custard and the figure 8 fruit danishes, cream filled and chocolate covered long johns that are jammed pack with a delicious cream filling, and something you can't find nowdays...the butter horn; not to mention the regular stuff. However, I think their most popular items are the flavored butter filled sweet rolls that come in a wide variety of flavors; my favorites are the amaretto, lilikoi, guava, and sweet butter favors. The staff there are always nice and most times you can expect a line... especially in the early mornings. They have about 6-7 stalls, as well as street parking. They're not hard to find, right in the beginning of the valley, next to Maunloa candies. I hope they are around a long time. Swing by and give them a try. Don't forget to go early though for the freshes and wide variety! read more

#4 for 2024 I was told this bakery was similar to a bakery I grew up with a long time ago in Ewa Beach. Two friends confirmed it. I was already about to fly out. I had to try taking the risk of missing my flight. The test came down to the long john. It was very close. No others I've tried in decades did that. The memories came flooding in as I ate this large long john with a more than generous amount of filling. It was twice as big too. Very sharable but I ate the whole thing. I don't feel shame but I did regret it later. Not. There is no where to sit inside. A few tables outside. The line forms outside. You enter inro the bakery one by one to order. Yes, good to know what you want before standing in line. You could also call it in. This will guarantee you get what you want. Oh yeah they do run out. And you should too run out to get your box of donuts, pastries, pies, cakes and breads. Share what you can't eat. Can't wait to try more of their offerings on my next return trip to the islands. I first heard about Ani's decades ago when I taught at Nimitz Elementary with Anita. Our principal retired and gave Ani's bread to each family at his party as favors. I have seen posts from Fellow Yelpers Kathy and Glen. Hubs has taken products to his sisters on Kauai. Today was our lucky day. Doc and I came for the first time with hubs. Like a kid in a candy store once we entered are eyes were constantly moving taking in all the marvelous assortment of pies, pastries , mochi named items, sandwiches and shelves of rolls, etc. being brought out. Doc bought 5 items which she divided into thirds so we could taste the variety: hot dog in bun, 2 kinds of glazed mochi donuts, sweet potato mochi and one more item. Hubs grabbed a lemon bread and I chose a Lilikoi bar(excellent shortbread like crust but mega sweet topping) We ended up having these for breakfast as we couldn't find the entrance of another place on Yelp nearby that had no street parking. I mentioned to a worker bringing out armloads of items, everything looks so good. She proudly beamed, so sweet. I can see why people would drive to Halawa to come here. Wish we had a bakery like this on the Windward side! The secret is, besides the sweet bread, cream filled rolls, Cinammon roll bread, and pies, they also sell pastries. I think the variety of pastries selection changes daily. And everything made in the bakery is ono! The long John and the chocolate center donut is my favorite. They sell pies by slice, the blueberry cream cheese pie is yummy! They also have a variety of sandwich and it comes with a bag of chips. I can't believe today was my first time going to Ani's bake shop. As soon as i walked in, there was a friendly old man paying for his treats. He looked at me and said, good ya? I told him it was my first time there and asked what his favorite thing was. He told me everything! I have to try everything lol. But he ultimately he said the long john was his fav. I mean everyone loves their long john right? I tried it and omg!! I can see why people love it!! They fill the custard up soo much. You will not find any where on the island that would have a long john like this! The custard isn't too sweet. I also got the orange muffin that people rave about. I didn't think I would like it but boy was i wrong! Best muffin hands down. Moist, soft, & perfectly sweet. Very unique flavor for a muffin. Ani's Bakery sells a variety of delicious baked goods. Over the years, I have tried their Banana Bread, pastries, Cinnamon Bread Pan, Sweet Bread Pan, Banana Cream Pie and Butter Cream Rolls. Overall, the baked goods are fresh with good flavor. On my most recent trip, I picked-up a Banana Loaf which we ate and a Peach/Pear Pie that we had to freeze and will eat at our next family get together. The banana bread is moist, light, airy, slight banana flavor and not overly sweet. It is a bit pricey but is one of the better banana breads I have tasted on the island. The Peach/Apple pie is heavy and has a nice crust. I will update my review after I try the pie. The previous baked goods I have tried were all pretty good. We stop by in the morning on our way to the airport to buy the sweet bread pan, cinnamon pan, banana bread to bring home and a pastry to eat on the plane. If you want something unique and tasty to take home as gifts, stop by Ani's. read more
