This is a little hole in the wall bakery that I have passed while driving to get other food in the same shopping plaza. I actually looked at it today and reminded myself to try it. I walked in after a heavy meal so that I wouldn't be buying too much for we know how all that works. Ends up with losing money and wasting food!!! However if you go in not starved, you will end up buying one or two baked goods and being happy with them. I tried their azuki bean bread and their coconut cream bread. The first thing I must say is that the bread is soft, not too sweet and good. The cream in the coconut bread is light, fluffy, not overly sweet and the whole thing together was a rather positive experience. I had a few words with the lady behind the counter and she said that they're super busy morning time. Of course, without zippys next door, they got all the baked goods business. I enjoyed their breads and I will definitely return. They probably have been in business for a long time, however this is my first time going and I will return for sure! read more

They've been at the Waimalu Shopping Center for over 10 years, and I never knew they were there until my hubby told me about them. It's way on the corner between zippy's and chun wah kam, they are hard to find. Hubby told me to go here to buy him his favorite coconut bread, soft and a coconut sweet taste to it. They also have a lot of breaded pastries which are soft with different flavored creams or flavoring. Service - lady was really nice. Yes, I'll definitely buy here again to bring home for breakfast, but better when eaten same day since it is soft and fresh. read more

American Floor event sold out at Palama Market so walking back to car. Stopped by and purchased a coconut loaf and a custard tart. Not too much coconut but the bread is soft. Custard was ok. I asked what they were known for but staff pointed to coconut loaf and an pan loaf and custard. Maybe the smaller versions are better. Small shop. read more

Pastries in Aiea, Oahu, Hawaii... I've always wanted to visit Nagoya Bakery... it's an old-school, inconspicuous shop at the beginning of the strip mall, Waimalu Shopping Center. The adventure began when I picked up my friend from her dad's house in Manoa. She was visiting from Virginia. We've been friends since the first grade! I wanted to show her this cool store: VH07V, but they were closed for vacation... so, we ate Hawaiian food at Jackie's Diner. As we were leaving the free parking lot, I saw Nagoya Bakery and told her that I never had a chance to try their products. She said, "Let's go!" I parked in front of the bakery and we entered the cozy shop. It was afternoon, and they had sold out of the Custard tarts. Shucks. However, there were still a bunch of goodies to choose from! The prices were quite reasonable and everything looked good! My friend got a haul for her family, and I picked up a Custard Bun and ensemada... yummy! I am sooo happy i found this bakery!! Everything i've tried soo far has been soo good! You can taste the freshness in them. The bread is nice and soft. The creams and custards are nicely whipped and not too sweet. & They have unique pastries. There's this one pastry that is covered in custard on the outside and inside; super good! I also really like their azuki bean pastry, it's nice and fluffy filled with lots of azuki bean. Their egg custard tarts are a must! Delicious, freshly baked pastries and breads can be found here. The workers are so nice and if you buy the breads hot out of the oven, be sure to let them cool off before tying them closed. There is always something new to try. I especially love the azuki and coconut breads. You can eat them sliced fresh or toast, and butter them - so delicious. This is quaint bakery nestled within the Waimalu Shopping Center. You will find a variety of sweet and savory baked goods to choose from. Not wanting to limit myself since it was my first time here, I bought a bag full of items to try by grabbing whatever was pleasing to the eye. No lapse in judgment here! I enjoyed everything lol Items were also reasonably priced, and service was friendly. I'm pretty sure they didn't have all of the items listed on their website. But like at any bakery, you snooze, you lose! You'll need to come as soon as they're open if you want the best selections. This place is worth your time if you enjoy quality baked goods. My other craze is the Almond Cookies! Funny thing is I don't usually eat almond cookies. Look how thick they are - and not sweet at all. The almonds are thinly sliced without a lot of crunch. Delicious dessert or snack. These also make ideal gifts for the holidays. I still stop by at least twice a week for the coconut cream bun. The lady behind the counter hasn't gotten tired of me yet! We just happened to pop in and were so surprised! Everything looks so ono, and it is. The custard tarts are the delish! The texture is closest to Delight Bakery custard. Very tasty! Custard buns are so soft and yummy! There was one lady at the counter. She was wrapping loaves of Azuki buns. We chose to buy a plain loaf of bread white bread and it's good for anykine sandwich. I remember bookmarking this place awhile back because I saw a pic of their Portuguese egg tart. I stopped by this small, locally owned business early in the morning and it smelled so heavenly inside. Lots of baked goods, both sweet and savory fresh out of the oven. I ended up buying their baked char su manapua and 3 egg tarts. The bread was nice and soft and slightly sweet. The filling in the manapua is not the typical red meat. It was a brown color and kinda sweet, so it was their own take on it. I really enjoyed it! I ate the whole thing. The egg tarts were really good. Not too sweet and the crust and buttery and flaky. Overall, if you're ever in the area. Check out this local bakery. I only went there to buy the Japanese pastries since the Mililani bakery was closed on a Tuesday. It's the last time I'll go to this Waimalu location. The person behind the counter didn't greet me & just kept talking to someone in the back. When I asked if they had any Manapua she just jerked her chin toward a shelf behind me & said back there. After setting ten pastries on the counter she just put them in a bag while I took out cash to pay. She gave me a strange look when I politely asked for a box since I was taking it to someone in the hospital. Due to my past experiences with Mililani I knew that ten pastries fit in a box. First of all, they're closed on Mondays. We discovered this gem of bakery through a box of pastries that was given to us. When I saw the name I know I've seen it somewhere but I couldn't recall. Good bakeries are hard to come by in Hawaii for some reason. Although this place has a Japanese name, their pastries are more like Chinese/Asian pastries. It's a tiny place but they have very familiar pastries like hot dog bun, Hong Kong bun, melon bun, azuki swirled bun, ham and cheese roll etc. They are little over $2 but it's worth the price because of generous size. One of my favorite is the azuki swirled bun which is fluffy, light, and perfect to my taste and it's not overly sweet. They have this other fluffy sponge cake that's lightly layered with strawberry jam. It is eggy, light, and yes very fluffy. This bakery is located two doors down from Chun Wah Kam. If I remember it correctly. Parking is free. It is a tiny place as I mentioned so don't hangout in there all day. I will be back for more. read more

In addition to the fact that they bake Portuguese egg tarts called pastéis de nata. Yes, the signage in the windows says Portuguese egg tarts. I fell in love eating pastéis de nata on my vacation in Belem, Portugal. The custard egg tarts at Nagoya bakery is as good as the ones in Portugal! The crust is flakey and the egg custard is decadent with just the right amount of sweetness not to overpower the richness of the egg. Divine! This bakery offers egg tarts, buns/rolls cakes, cookies and breads. The popular item besides the pastéis de nata is the azuki bean bread which were all sold out by the time I arrived. Alway walked by this itty bitty shop and never went in. Saturday 11am had to kill time to meet a friend, parking was full, but just have patience there will be some eventually. Went in, customer visiting from the neighbor islands was having 12 loaves of the Azuki Bean Bread boxed to take back!!! So what the heck I'll try! Must be good?! It is! So fresh, so soft, not too overly sweet and ono too! $6.99 plus tax. Went back the next day, Sunday 2pm....SOLD OUT! If you like Brug, try here! Everything here is good! The breads are all so soft and the flavor is consistent. We can't help but get the soft cake every time because it's the perfect snack without the sweet sweet taste. Today's cake had a blueberry filling which was a nice touch and not too overpowering. We also like the hot dog buns here which we got 3 of but ate them before snapping a pic. Everything here is about $2.5-3 per piece but they do sell loaves. Stopped by after picking up some shave ice next door. I have always wanted to stop by but get pulled to other places since its a strip of delicious things to try. Authentic French/Japanese styled bread and pastries are available at Nagoya bakery. From custard, azuki, bread...a mix of Japanese and Chinese pastries, not too sweet nor tart. I selected a bit too much, but fortunately, they last a few days and I was able to snack for two days afterwards. Nagoya Bakery is located in an old strip mall in Waimalu, (across the street from Best Buy) it has a small storefront that you will easily miss if not observant. I parked in front of the small storefront on the way to Shiro's and stopped in afterwards. It's a good thing I stopped by AFTER eating or else I would have picked more items to eat.
