I was shopping next door at DQ, but I really needed coffee. Nak was closed, so I wandered over here to the food hall to see what they had. L'Ami looked good! Ordered a large iced latte. I didn't have to wait long since it wasn't crowded. If I was hungry, I would've picked up a pastry. The staff working were efficient, but not overly friendly. L' Ami Bakery: Home of the CUTEST STRAW! After drinking coffee here for the past few years I have come to appreciate their pink heart shaped straw. It brings me so much joy after going to so many shops that have soggy paper straws, giant boba straws for drinks without boba, or straws biodegradable straws that snap in the center of the lid. Those straws put the SUCK in Sucking. As a man, other people think I'm so nice for holding my girlfriends drink with a pink straw... But NO SHAME, this is proudly my drink! I won't ever accidentally knock my drink over because of the fabulous bright color warns me. I can't even count how many times I've knocked over a drink cuz of excessively long straws my arm couldn't see reaching around a table. Thank you L'Ami Bakery! I could suck from your straws all day. Coffee hunt to Pearl City this morning brought us to L'ami, a cute bakery within the Hmart food court. I usually pick up an Anpan, but because we got there pretty much when they opened, it was a great chance to grab pastries I hadn't seen before. This morning we ordered: Americano 12 oz. ($4.00) - not bitter or burnt! Custard Bread ($3.00) - fluffy, soft and filled with a lovely custard Cranberry Cream Cheese Bread ($3.85) - lovely seasonal pastry, it appears heavy and dense in the packaging but is actually pillowy with a light cream cheese filling Pumpkin Pastry ($3.50) - braided pastry with a yellow pumpkin and what looks like some kind of black seed filling... maybe it is kabocha? But it was yummy! Super glad it wasn't busy when we were stopped by so we could check out the selection a little closer before picking up a few items. The workers were busy putting freshly packaged pastries out and making coffees with a smile! There is also a nice selection of pretty cakes, macarons and other individual desserts in the refrigerated display to choose from. read more

Had a friend over last week and she brought a beautiful pink box with a cake in it from L'Ami. The cake was strawberries and cream on a light white cake with strawberries and cream filling. But it wasn't just pretty to look at, it was light and delicious. I will definitely go to try their other pastries and cakes next time I'm at HMart. read more

During my first visit, I tried the strawberry cake that was displayed for a birthday celebration. It wasn't too sweet, but had more whipped cream than cake. On my second visit, I had the Jeju tangerine matcha and a matcha croissant roll. Both were enjoyable, flavorful and not overly sweet. My daughter flew down for the weekend and after being in Aiea for a bit for an appointment, I was craving a really good coffee and dessert. Located inside H Mart and you have to walk into the store and around to get to the left side of the store which is where this bakery is and all the food vendors are too - My daughter bought some yummy Korean snacks and Soju. The bakery did not have the popular strawberry cream filled croissant (I was bummed), so I got the sausage roll thing and they discontinued the iced rose oat milk latte, so I got a large iced cafe latte with oat milk (double strike!!!) The cashier guy did not smile or even greet me. My total was a little over $10. They did not have the cute pink straws shaped like a heart, they had the big straws that boba places have. The barista was sweet and also told me to have a great day and I greeted her back :) I ate the sausage roll on the car ride back home and I was so disappointed. It was a hot dog!!!! Gross!!!! The bread was good but c'mon, ain't no sausage!!! If I go back, I'll get something from the refrigerated section located on the right side of the checkout counter. read more

I'm loving their iced Einspanner coffee. It is a German brand coffee and made fresh when you order. The aroma and taste are just great. I ordered without sugar even though Asian drinks are not overly sweet in comparison to Starbucks per say. Just for an iced coffee there's different layers to it for $5. They have pink, heart shaped straws. So cute! L'Ami Bakery offers pretty cakes and pastries. I've gotten their assorted, mini pastries before. They're all good and very light. I went on a Monday to order a real strawberry cake to be picked up on Wednesday. This was in mid January. The girl at the counter said they didn't accept orders. I told her I wanted to purchase it fresh for my daughter's birthday. She said the decorator would be in on Wednesday, so I could call in the morning & hold the cake. On Wednesday, I called & there was another woman working that day. She said that they can't hold any cake. I told her that I was there on Monday & that's what I was told. I confirmed that the decorator was in that day & the cake would be fresh. I asked what time would the cake be available. She said around 11. The decorator ended up attending a meeting so the pick up time changed to noon. I was already on my way before 11, so I turned around to go back home. I was also informed that the real strawberry cake wasn't available that day, so I ended up with the twin berry cake. To make a long story short, my husband went back to pick up the cake & didn't look at it prior to taking it home. When I opened the box prior to singing "Happy Birthday", the cake was not fresh! The leaves on the strawberry looked dead & the frosting was dry! Which means the cake was not freshly made. Never again will I be purchasing a cake from L'Ami Bakery! read more

Pearl Ridge is out of the way for me, but L'Ami is worth the drive. I fell in love with einspanner coffee in Los Angeles. L'Ami has a signature einspanner, that is delicious and perfectly balanced. Currently, they're featuring a matcha einspanner which is just as good! Prices are super affordable. $4.95/drink! They even have heart straws! I also enjoyed the red bean bread which was fresh. My boyfriend loved his pizza croquette bread, how unique! Service is friendly and nice. The Cloud Castellas are divine! So light and delicious, barely there. They have multiple flavors also. There are other bakery items which they say are made in house from a dough that comes from Korea. I told them it must be a secret then. This bakery is inside the H-Mart. We tried several of the bakery items and they were all nice. The special dough makes for an especially tender bread or cake, depending on the item you choose. I definitely want to try another flavor of the Cloud Castellas. read more

A sweet little bread shop tucked away inside H-Mart for that quick grab-and-go sweet treat. My biggest tip: Come early! Most of the pastries are gone by the time lunch time rolls around. I think it's because most of them are gone by lunch that I haven't noticed this shop, since half the inventory would be gone. But this one day, I left work early and maybe it was good timing but there was still plenty in stock! That's how I was able to buy and try so many to finally review this place. They have a few different flavors of croissants, that you grab and wrap on your own, and they also have pre-wrapped treats as well. My favorite was the chocolate cookie! That thing was HUGE for only $3 and the chocolate chunks were plentiful and the cookie itself was flavorful and chewy. 10/10 would get again (maybe even Smol kine addicted). Overall, this place does boast the same bread treats you would see in any other Asian bread shop, I can't really tell if it's Korean or Japanese breads, but regardless, it gets the job done. Tsk, why don't I follow my mother's sage advice about not grocery shopping when hungry?! You'd think I would've learned that lesson during my lifetime. We were in the Pearl City neighborhood to do grocery shopping for hot pot or shabu shabu ingredients at H Mart for a home cooking project. When we entered H Mart, instead of following my husband into the grocery store, L'Ami Bakery's bright digital menu and neatly displayed baked goods grabbed my attention from the store's Food Court. We hadn't eaten breakfast yet because we had come from our dental cleaning appointments and were instructed not to eat for at least 30 minutes. We agreed to have brunch in town after completing our shopping and when we returned home. However, I was drawn to L'Ami Bakery when I spotted their baked goods prettily displayed and its bright digital menu like a moth to bright light. As I started to browse through the individually wrapped pastries displayed on a table, both workers behind the counter heartily greeted me. I zeroed in on their yuzu, almond, and chocolate croissants and quickly paid for them before entering the grocery store. Luckily, we've been inside this well-organized H-Mart several times before, so we did our typical "surgical strike" marketing technique. We were in and out of the market within 10 minutes and rushed home. After unwrapping the croissants, I cut them into halves to see the lamination or layers of these croissants. Indeed, they had a flakey and honeycomb-like interior structure. The yuzu cream filling had a light and bright, citrusy flavor without being overly tart. The almond croissant was garnished and filled with an almond cream or frangipane. Its nutty almond flavor was subtle yet brought out the buttery flavor of the croissant. The chocolate croissant was not filled but only dipped in dark chocolate and topped with sliced almonds. We liked the dark chocolate since it didn't add the cloying sweetness that milk chocolate does. We'd return to try more of L'Ami Bakery's pastries and Asian-style cakes and pastries. read more

Coffee break, especially since we were trying to kill time while it was storming outside. Hubs wanted to try the Tiramisu croissant. Cute presentation but there wasn't really any tiramisu flavor and the cream on top wasn't really sweet. Flaky croissant, however. We enjoyed our lattes more. I don't usually like rose but this one had the perfect amount of floral flavor. For the black sesame, need to give it a mix to get the flavor but that one was probably my fave. This cute bakery and cafe is one tenant at the Market Eatery food court in the newest HMart in Pearl City. Selections here does seem to be quite limited and seem to steer more of a lighter and airy sweets. Not sure if this is a bakery with drinks or a cafe with sweets as their coffee and teas selection are quite decent. Though majority are pretty self explanatory their signature items are still a mystery for me. Not feeling adventurous I asked a few questions and they delightful and friendly staff was sweet but was incredibly shy I could barely hear anything she said. I did get the Purple Passion Fruit Ade which I believe is butterfly tea with passion fruit and I don't really know what was really nice, slightly sweet though it was so blazing hot it was a refreshing drink. Dissatisfied I don't know what is going on, but this is actually a place that I go to on the regular the macrons were my favorite they were regular size and just the perfect bite and flavor they seem to have made them bigger, but not better. I bought four and they all tasted like I was biting into a block of butter. The flavor was gone. My kids didn't even eat theirs . And there was only one barista, which is usual, but for some reason it took forever to get our drink. I'm going to give it one more try, but this was fairly disappointing. read more

I love going to the pearl city h-mart since they have this cute little bakery/cafe! It's always such a treat to stop by and grab a drink after grocery shopping! This time around, I got to try the following drinks - (They all came iced) Rose Latte - I love this latte, they don't go super heavy handed on the syrup and it makes a big difference since floral flavors can come off super strong and you can't taste the coffee anymore but they do it right here. They add just enough where the rose flavor compliments the coffee. The presentation is really pretty too since they sprinkle some dried roses on top. Just make sure to mix the drink well! Black Glazed Latte - this one was probably my least favorite. If you're looking for a basic latte then this is it. Definitely mixing it up helps a lot since most of the sugar was on the top. Black Sesame Latte - this latte was really good! I've had many black sesame lattes in the mainland and we definitely need more of these here! This one was good, i would like more black sesame flavor though. Their latte had a more mellow black sesame flavor. Seriously if you're wary of it, don't be! The black sesame topping adds a more deep roasted nutty flavor and I feel like getting it from here would be a good place to try since theirs isn't as strong as others that I've had before. Oh!
