I ordered a Classic bialy with a pick of peaches & creams and lemon dill schmear. The lemon dill schmear had a mix of cream cheese, lemon juice, lemon zest and dill. The BEC which was scrambled eggs, Muenster, cheddar cheese and bacon with my pick of poppy seeds bagel and a Local Fizzie, POG flavored. The service was great, and recommended the peaches & cream. I had several, but i'm told it's the real deal in NYC. I'm from Hawaii, I get how people are particular about their food. Hawaii food is way up there in rank. First of all, they took the time to explain to this small time local mind, what everything was, like schmear and types of bagels, to be exact. We came close to closing, so the options were limited, which probably worked in my favor and indicisiveness. We'd really love to adopt a cat. We have donated money to Pretzel the puppy and other kitties at Toe Beans who needed urgent medical funds. Each time is a gamble on how well the visit will go because sometimes the kitties will be sick, or tired, and not in the mood to be social. There have been visits where the kitties had runny eyes, sneezed out mucus onto us, and just wanted to sleep. Today was one of those days. I'm not saying this is the kitties fault or that I blame them for being sick, the play rooms are small and so sickness between them can spread easily. It is odorous inside the establishment because there aren't open windows and the litter boxes are inside the rooms. They do have air purifiers but it doesn't help much to be honest. Today we made an appointment to go at 11, which was the earliest we ever went, and it was actually busier than we expected. They had rearranged the furniture around in the adult cat room so I had to crouch until one of the other guests offered me a stool to sit on. Two older women who seemed like regulars came into the room about 10 minutes after I entered and one of them moved a large cat bed off of one of the 2 benches so that she could sit. Then they scattered a bunch of cat treats from a bag that they had brought in themselves over the floor to feed the cats. I had never experienced that in my other visits and it was honestly off putting, because it made the free treats that are given to us to get the kitties attention pretty much useless. It just felt.. wrong. There was a strand of cat mucus on the grey cupboard that I was sitting on, and I warned my boyfriend to watch out for it before he sat down. One of the older women said "I don't think you should sit there, it's their litter box". Before she and her companion came in, another guest had been sitting on the cupboard. I only moved to sit on it once the guest moved to sit next to her girlfriend on one of the benches and because the stool was uncomfortable. Also, in our past visits, people always sat on that grey cupboard. So.. I don't know why she felt the need to tell me that. My boyfriend said that the 10 guest limit might be a bit too many people to let in at once to play with the cats. I find myself agreeing with him after today. We were really looking forward to hanging out with the cats today, but those 2 older women who dumped their own treats into the room like they were feeding a feral cat colony and the stressed, sick cats who just wanted to sleep or only move around to eat treats made us leave much earlier than the 50 minutes we paid for. Again, I appreciate what Toe Beans mission is, but they should look into changing certain things, such as installing open windows to allow ventilation and cleaning the rooms more. And maybe taking "sick days" for the cats so they aren't forced to entertain guests when they aren't feeling well.

But not too long a line and after we were seated there was no line but then a long line when we were leaving. So it is hit or miss in terms of wait time. Cross your fingers and the seating gods may be generous and kind to you. Menu id basically the same. And although there were four females to help with answering the phones for takeout orders, bussing and serving as well as taking orders and payment their system is efficient. When your table is ready you order and pay (if you order a drink a cup for your coffee or drink will be given). It saves time for you to wait for someone to take your order and later to wave someone down to pay. I know other places use this system (like Joe's on Nimitz) but it seems very practical here. Every table had a cold bottle of water waiting for the diners (so no wait help had to refill glasses) and I saw one of the wait help exchange the one on the table for a new cold bottle (that table was vacant for a while). The food is plentiful (most people had at least one take out container) and delicious. My corn beef wasn't from a can and cooked so there was a crisp but still soft on the inside. The spinach and mushrooms were fresh (once had canned mushrooms in my omelet at Zippy's -ugh).
